00:00:0087th Grand Prix
00:00:01to take part in Germany, 28th time
00:00:04we visited the current
00:00:06configuration of the Sachsen
00:00:08Ring, one of six anti-clockwise tracks on the
00:00:10calendar, tight and twisty
00:00:123.671
00:00:14kilometers in length, the shortest track on the
00:00:16entire 22-round calendar
00:00:19tight and twisty in that
00:00:20first sector, the horseshoe through
00:00:22turn 3, the omega corner before the track really
00:00:24does come into its own, a sequence
00:00:26of 4th and 5th gear corners, you
00:00:28power through turn 7, through to
00:00:30turn 12, including the
00:00:32spectacular plunge down through
00:00:34the Ralph Waldman curve
00:00:35turn 11, 1
00:00:3812 and 13, the most demanding for
00:00:40breaks
00:00:51Good afternoon and welcome back to
00:00:54a gloriously sunny Sachsen
00:00:56ring, it's the Liqui Moly Grand Prix of Germany
00:00:59round 11, halfway distance
00:01:02coming up in this year's MotoGP
00:01:04World Championship before we're all due
00:01:06to head off on our three week
00:01:08summer holidays, who'll be
00:01:10enjoying the sunshine the most
00:01:12as we continue our latest
00:01:14chapter in what is turning out to be a
00:01:16rather intriguing, a rather absorbing
00:01:182026 MotoGP title chase
00:01:21versus just four riders at the top of the standings
00:01:24are split by less than 25 points
00:01:28Hoy Martin is your series leader as he looks for more success
00:01:33at a Sachsen ring circuit where he was victorious here back in 2023
00:01:36he's won both of his previous sprint visits here
00:01:39as Martin as he looks to build on a seven point lead over Aprilia factory racing team
00:01:45mate Marco Betzecchi as we head into the summer break
00:01:48Fabio Di Gennantonio 16 points back off the top of the leaderboard
00:01:52another strong start to proceedings at this morning in FP1 for the Italian as he was third
00:01:58quickest and Ayagura of course is the fourth rider
00:02:01one of four riders who could quite possibly go into the summer break
00:02:04leading the standings at the halfway point of this year's championship
00:02:09the Japanese rider
00:02:11brought crashing back down to Earth with a bit of a bump this morning
00:02:14only 17th fastest in FP1
00:02:16he hasn't really got a reputation of being a super fast starter has he Ayagura
00:02:20although we have not been able to say that
00:02:21over the last couple of Grand Prix's in Bruneau
00:02:23and in Assam where he has double podiums in both
00:02:27including that unforgettable first victory for a Japanese rider in Mudder GP
00:02:33in 22 long years
00:02:35that brilliant podium burst has fired Ayagura into championship contention
00:02:41as he looks to be the first Japanese rider in history
00:02:46to win back-to-back Mudder GP races
00:02:48great time, super times right now for Superfire Trackhouse
00:02:52and those times continue fresh off the back of their double 1-2
00:02:56in the Grand Prix of the Netherlands
00:02:58well Ralph Fernandes
00:03:00a bit of a milestone moment for the Spanish rider
00:03:02first time in his Mudder GP career
00:03:04what is this, his 89th start that he has actually started a weekend
00:03:08in P1
00:03:09and 120.829 getting the job done this morning for Fernandes
00:03:13the sprint winner over in Assam
00:03:15second to Ayagura
00:03:16he was there of course
00:03:18one of our six anti-clockwise venues with Aragon, Austin, Valencia, Philippe Island and Balaton
00:03:23which generally means that Marc Marquez is going to have a big say in the outcome of the weekend
00:03:29he was second fastest this morning
00:03:32practice then about to get underway in the company of Matt Burr and Lewis have been to come to you
00:03:35want to check up on it down in pit lane
00:03:37no stopping Trackhouse and Ralph Fernandes right now Lewis
00:03:40brilliant double podium for him in Assam last time out
00:03:44and he was really rapid and super fast this morning once again leading FP1
00:03:49feels like the summer break is coming at a bad time for them doesn't it with the momentum they have
00:03:53picked up which continues to gather pace
00:03:55and with Ralph Fernandes fastest in that FP1 session this morning
00:03:59Marc Marquez though right behind him and clearly will still take some stopping
00:04:02uh this weekend but
00:04:04the Aprilia contingent must look at this weekend as I said this morning as an opportunity
00:04:08to upset Marc Marquez
00:04:10and give him something to think about heading into the summer break Marc Marquez of course will be looking to
00:04:14give his
00:04:15championship rivals some serious summer blues with victory here this weekend
00:04:19he was next best behind Ralph Fernandes P2 despite a fall this morning
00:04:23a very early fall on just his third lap of the weekend at turn three
00:04:28uh the 33 year old Spaniard was on the deck one of several riders there across all
00:04:32classes it's been caught out by this tricky bump
00:04:35this nasty pesky bump right here on the exit of turn three
00:04:38you can just see there the twitch as Marc was on the throttle
00:04:41on the factory Ducati that was the only momentary blip
00:04:45of this morning session because he rebounded and found a 120.880
00:04:52that coming on lap 9 of 20 that he was able to
00:04:54successfully complete this morning already a dozen wins in the locker
00:05:00he is a serial winner around the sax ring his name Marc Marquez
00:05:03nine times he's prevailed in mana GP ten previous starts here in the top class
00:05:08he has never finished lower than second which he did so here back in 2024
00:05:14clearly the big favorite whenever you talk to any rider any team manager anybody
00:05:18connects about a GP in the paddock in the sax ring they will tell you 93
00:05:22starts the weekend as the overwhelming big favorite as he looks to close down
00:05:26a 40 point deficit at the top of the championship yeah i almost feel like it must come actually on
00:05:32the
00:05:32tickets at the German Grand Prix German Grand Prix the Saxon ring which will be won by Marc Marquez
00:05:36that was certainly the case in 2025 Fabi de Gian Antonio will be one of 20 other
00:05:43MotoGP riders this weekend looking to ensure that Marc doesn't
00:05:46take a 10th MotoGP victory at the Saxon ring and Digia also
00:05:49in fine Fettel this morning the all-time lap record holder here at the Saxon ring
00:05:54completed the top three earlier one of only four riders this morning
00:05:57did you that found some 121 laps his best work a 120.936 seventh time this year
00:06:05he's kicked off the weekend inside the top three he's always been rapid out the gates
00:06:09so far this season did you and we have to factor him in now as a big equation in the
00:06:14championship 16
00:06:15points he is adrift of Martin 177 points collected from our opening 10 rounds of the season so far
00:06:23a whole bunch of top sixes a smattering of sprint podiums including uh third place last time at
00:06:31and that's when he really did gate fast he a pretty party and of course to boot three Sunday Grand
00:06:36Prix podiums as well that's been the platform for Digia's success so far in 2026 it's having all the
00:06:43makings at the moment of a golden MotoGP season a true classic campaign building up as we reach the
00:06:49halfway stage at the end of this weekend with six different Grand Prix winners six different sprint
00:06:54winners 10 different Grand Prix podium finishes 11 different sprint podium finishes already in the
00:06:59first half of the season and it's Jorge Martin who you saw there with the eye drops in to make
00:07:04sure
00:07:04he can see clearly this afternoon at the Saxon ring who carries a seven point world championship lead
00:07:09a lead that i think he would have even given himself a long odds on when the campaign began it's
00:07:14been a
00:07:14season of first at April 4 Martin his first win coming in Le Mans last time out in Aston was
00:07:19his first
00:07:20RSGP pole position he was 10th a little bit low key this morning uh from the world championship leader
00:07:26Alex Marquez briefly led the way uh this morning in FP1 the 30 year old finally uh this has been
00:07:34a long time in the making long time coming finally though the news officially made public by Alex
00:07:39Marquez and KTM he'll be in orange so too will Fabio the Genantonio Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta making
00:07:47way for a very experienced factor KTM line-up next year Fabio the Genantonio will be at north of 200
00:07:53Grand Prix starts when he moves to the RC16 next year Alex Marquez already north of 250 Grand Prix starts
00:08:00next
00:08:00year so one of the most experienced lineups will be in orange in 2027 and all five factory teams now
00:08:07confirmed will have a new lineups for next season either completely new or half new we're awaiting
00:08:13Honda to confirm their factory lineup but we know that Juan Mir is departing their team to go across to
00:08:18the Cassini Ducati squad for next season where he'll be partnered by Danny Holgado here is the former
00:08:23world championship leader or there was Marco Betzecchi who i think will be reasonably pleased with how his
00:08:28morning effort went uh a weekend where he wasn't really sure what kind of expectations to set ahead
00:08:34of the German Grand Prix Betzecchi up inside the top eight in FB1 he has to stop this poor run
00:08:39on
00:08:39Sundays he has to stop hemorrhaging big points uh to some of his major tight arrivals as mentioned this
00:08:44morning he's lost 69 points to Mark Marquez and 63 points on Agura in just the last three Grand
00:08:51Pris doesn't seem that long ago does it when Betzecchi was over 100 points clear
00:08:55and Mark Marquez Marquez himself declaring uh title defense over uh well he said yesterday in the
00:09:01free event press conference title defense now very much game on as Mark says just 40 points
00:09:06off Jorge Martin at the top of the standings crucial practice session then coming your way in what are the
00:09:13hottest conditions of the date so far 3pm local time here on Friday afternoon in the Sanctuary
00:09:18a beautiful sunny day which we're happy to report you can see from these live pictures a few early week
00:09:24forecasts we're predicting a bit of rain to uh hit this part of east Germany thankfully the
00:09:29spot a smattering of a few clouds predominantly with his clear blue skies and we are set for what we
00:09:35hope is going to be a lot of tension filled and dramatic filled 60 minute session top 10 as always
00:09:40just to remind you uh we'll advance directly into tomorrow's second qualifying session yeah we're
00:09:46expecting it to be super super close given what we saw this morning in pre-practice one
00:09:50worth 20 of the 21 in the field uh of course with no Fermi now again here for Christine's weekend
00:09:56which is why there are only 21 starters this weekend for the German Grand Prix 20 within a second
00:10:01Ralph Fernandes down to Luca Marini on the factory under only Cal Coach though of course the uh continued
00:10:06replacement for Joan Zaka was uh outside of one second back from Ralph Fernandes shortest uh one of the
00:10:12shortest laps of the year just 3.6 kilometers 2.281 miles in terms of distance is the shortest in
00:10:18terms of
00:10:19sheer lap time it's uh what a second or two longer in terms of a lap than we had in
00:10:23Goyania at the start of the
00:10:25season only 13 corners so thousands in a second they're going to make the difference here yeah the
00:10:31amount of GP field this weekend they're going to be doing this is just race laps alone 15 lap sprints
00:10:3630
00:10:37lap grand prix they're going to be tackling left corners 450 times if you go the full distance over
00:10:44the races quite a unique mixture the entire location as well this weekend which is uh worth uh covering
00:10:50off uh with uh Goyania of course we made our first visit to Brazil in over 20 years here on
00:10:55this season
00:10:56with Valencia and with Philip Island this uh one of only four tracks in the Grand Prix talented where
00:11:01all front tires and all rear tires are asymmetric in configuration of course the harder compound on
00:11:08the left-hand side of the tire given the fact that's 13 corners 10 of the 13 corners here in
00:11:14the
00:11:14sax ring go left this being one of them down the hill we go through turn two now to one
00:11:19of those three
00:11:19right-handers this is turn three the omega corner which has been pretty problematic on the exit
00:11:24Frankie Moore with over on board with who tumbled off this morning it was Fabio de Gian Antonio rather
00:11:29but his teammate Frankie Moore they did succumb to that big bump on the exit of turn three it's been
00:11:34a feature in all three classes of racing so far today we've had riders go down on that particular
00:11:40bump the majority of the work on the front tires this morning we've done on the soft and the medium
00:11:45and we've got everybody with the exception of top track Raskatioglu at the moment who have gone out on
00:11:50the hard front tire as the temperatures come up that hard front tire and we'll get into its working
00:11:55temperature nicely in terms of the rear tire the vast majority have gone out on the medium rear
00:11:59we've got Acosta, Rind, Miller and Pekka Banyai along with Jorge Martin the world championship leader
00:12:03we've gone out on the soft rear even on an out lap even just building pace as Fabio de Gian
00:12:09Antonio and
00:12:10Ralph and Anans we're looking at right now when they drop down through turn 11 it's super scary and stuff
00:12:15isn't it one of the most spectacular corners on the calendar this will now be Raul fastest this morning
00:12:21and Digia winding our way up to full racing speed as Pedro Acosta didn't really speak much of Acosta this
00:12:28morning did we 12 fastest breaking himself back in gently after undergoing surgery post acid
00:12:35carpal tunnel surgery he's been experiencing he said for about the last 12 months or so issues
00:12:40with a numbness feeling a lack of feeling tingling in the tinging sensation in the right hand and the lower
00:12:47fork right forearm this is lowest FP1 this morning since coincidentally 13th here in the Saxon ring exactly 12
00:12:55months ago a bit of a head shake there on gas for Marco Betsecki's factory Aprilia as he powered up
00:13:01the hill
00:13:01through turn nine it's back-to-back DNS for Acosta now too on Sunday afternoons of course Betsecki's got
00:13:07back-to-back DNFs either side of it did not start uh back at the uh Czech Grand Prix and
00:13:12Acosta's another
00:13:13rider who will feel that had he had some uh better luck so far this season he would be right
00:13:17in that
00:13:17world championship battle as well 63 points covers the top eight which does include Acosta here comes
00:13:23Marco Betsecki then looking to get us into the warm trade he was a 20.8 from Ralph Fernandes this
00:13:27morning
00:13:28so that from Betsecki is already the fastest lap of the day Acosta's title hopes have taken a massive blow
00:13:33over those last couple of Grand Prix's he scored just the one point in the last two rounds that ninth
00:13:38place in the Aston sprint Bruno and Aston are back-to-back DNFs in better GP for the very first
00:13:44time for the normally super consistent 22 year old Spaniard he's not a rider that tends to uh have too
00:13:50many
00:13:50DNFs in the column is he the former mother three mother two world champion and the second time his entire
00:13:56Grand Prix career that he's gone back-to-back races without seeing the chequered flag they're looking
00:14:01to rectify that situation this weekend as straight away well this morning we only had four riders that
00:14:07were able to find laps in the 120s on the first flying laps of this afternoon session we've got six
00:14:13immediately into the 120s the best of them is Betsecki 120.646 which is the fastest time of the day
00:14:21already on just lap three all-time lap record just for your reference it's Fabio the Janantonio has won 19
00:14:28.071
00:14:30it's gonna be one of the beauties of a world championship battle between multiple manufacturers as
00:14:35we go through this season largely between Ducati and Aprilia potentially Pedro Costa Mike and KTM involved in
00:14:40the action as well but they're gonna have various circuits to the calendar that they're gonna look at
00:14:44and think those are our tracks those are potentially banker revenues for us clearly acid was a brilliant
00:14:50favoured locked out the podium on the sunday locked out the top four places on the grid a pretty will
00:14:55also look potentially the likes of Silverstone later in the year potentially Lombok in uh Indonesia
00:15:00potentially if we base it on Betsecki's performances last year but this is surely one that Ducati and
00:15:05Mark Marquez will have circled on the card and say that is one venue where we can make big points
00:15:10up
00:15:10Ducati have won all three sprints here at the Saxo Ring they've taken the last five pole positions
00:15:15right here in the Grand Prix of Germany and they've locked out the last three Grand Prix podiums including
00:15:21in 2023 and 2024 when they locked out the top five and so this has been Ducati land over the
00:15:29last few
00:15:30years or so cutting to a real tight line there wasn't he running right over the inside kerb there at
00:15:35three
00:15:35was Ralph Fernandes almost like a deliberate ploy to make sure that he didn't put himself in that
00:15:40danger zone with the big bump so we're able to listen to Fabio de Gian Antonio
00:16:08it's very hard to give you kind of accurate judge there an accurate gauge of just how
00:16:13much the track falls away going through that spectacular turn 11 at full speed they're motoring
00:16:18through there 200 kilometers an hour in fifth gear we saw Maverick Fignales take a pretty nasty fall
00:16:23there this morning Spaniard thankfully emerging uninjured uh well it was another brilliant performance
00:16:29wasn't it by the factory aprilias all four aprilias last time out over in acid and stay locked out the
00:16:35top four on the grid for the very first time second time this season they locked out the podium
00:16:40hoi martin back on top of the world champs you watch lies in store in germany i'd like to say
00:16:45as always
00:16:48yeah once again this 2026 season showing that from weekend to weekend so much can change uh now suddenly
00:16:55it's jorge martin that leads the world championship mark i bet seki dropping to second so let's start
00:17:00with the championship leader paulo because i imagine 10 races in at the start of the season if
00:17:07someone would have told you jorge would be leading the world championship you would have been quite
00:17:11surprised how has he managed to be leading the championship at this stage quite surprised you
00:17:17you find the correct world absolutely it's something that make us uh happy because uh we have seen that
00:17:25we did a great job with him and uh yeah despite of the of the many points lost by by
00:17:34marco during the last
00:17:36three races it seems to be that we are part of the game we still we are playing good in
00:17:44uh but no in uh in
00:17:47passing as well in uh all the first part of the season there is no one race where uh we
00:17:56didn't find
00:17:56probably at the end probably uh in the last moment on sunday but we we found something to to give
00:18:04to
00:18:04the rider the correct confidence so for us was absolutely a positive first part of the season this is
00:18:11the the last race before the the summer break we need the summer break to recover the battery for sure
00:18:19and to be prepared for the second for the second one now it is something very particular very particular
00:18:27track very technical track it is like a kart circuit but it is necessary to take care about
00:18:36uh all the all the all the the corner because there is a one one specific split where you have
00:18:43to manage
00:18:44very carefully the the rear tire to keep the tire temperature in the correct window otherwise when you
00:18:52are uh approaching the last part of the of the split of the of the circuit you you you will
00:18:59find
00:18:59uh something tricky to manage with the with the rear with the rear slide and the the front tire as
00:19:06well
00:19:07because with the full the the most of the corner on the left you find the the 11 corner the
00:19:13the very
00:19:14special corner on the right so you have to take care about it so very technical track but we have
00:19:20seen
00:19:20also last year that uh we can manage uh both our rider but uh for sure was the also the
00:19:28track house one
00:19:29uh could give a good uh a good results to to to to the aprilia to the aprilia staff so
00:19:38looking forward
00:19:39to to see what happened during the the weekend for sure the the weather forecast will help a little
00:19:45bit because it's getting a little bit warmer during the today or the saturday and uh and the sunday as
00:19:54well the expected is 25 so it's not not bad for for marco he spoke to us yesterday saying that
00:20:00the body
00:20:01is still quite sore from us and so how was the body this morning and you mentioned there about needing
00:20:06to recharge the batteries how much of this weekend for marco is about building himself back up again so
00:20:12he can go into the summer break reset and come back out swinging in the second half very important for
00:20:18him
00:20:18very very important is necessary to for him to to recover the the trust to trust uh on not on
00:20:27the bike
00:20:28because he trusted the bike he trusted the staff across the team for sure but to recover the the trust
00:20:35on
00:20:35himself to don't to don't make uh with too much aggressive the first part of the race because we know
00:20:44uh he could achieve a very good result also in assen i don't know if uh if uh i have
00:20:51uh the possibility
00:20:52to to win but for sure to be on the podium uh because the race pace during the session he
00:20:58showed that
00:20:59he was every time on the on the first uh first part of the of the uh the ranking and
00:21:05uh yeah the
00:21:06his physical situation is not uh the the best one after such a big crash he has to recover uh
00:21:13he say
00:21:14to us that uh yeah he feel a little bit uh uh not in perfect situation but uh his energy
00:21:22will cover
00:21:22everything just finally did you see anything this morning that makes you think you can beat marquez here
00:21:28uh we know we know that uh here uh historically is uh uh a mark a mark track uh he
00:21:38won many times
00:21:39here so he will be the references uh and for sure we will try to be to to beat him
00:21:45and to to do our
00:21:46best thanks power have a good one thanks thanks jack thanks as always to the ever interesting uh
00:21:53a pretty boss palo bernura if a pretty r2 defeat mark marquez here this weekend in germany they're
00:21:58going to have to do something they've never done here before in the sanctuary and that is score a
00:22:02podium in the grand prix format their best alicia spigeros fourth place here back in 2022 they do
00:22:09have a couple of second places in sprints but on sunday grand prix here in the sanctuary a brilliant
00:22:15and never troubled park ferme post grand prix that's gonna have to change if they're gonna lay some uh
00:22:21lay some gloves on mark marquez yeah he did crash out of a podium position last year of course famously
00:22:27in the uh turn one of poor judgment when several riders were going down in the space of three or
00:22:33four
00:22:33laps of each other and that's the way a pretty have got to look at this this weekend they can't
00:22:38just come
00:22:38here with the attitude of we're playing for second place and expecting mark marquez to do the winning
00:22:42they've got to try and strike a psychological blow of their own here in this world championship because
00:22:47there's there's been a lot of talk in in recent grand prix of aprilia potentially shooting themselves
00:22:51in the foot with the start line collision in hungary with fernandez and martin tripping over each other
00:22:57on the sunday in barcelona and either one of them could have won the grand prix on that occasion of
00:23:01course uh betseki's bruno uh incident which has been well documented there's no question that aprilia
00:23:07have left a lot of points on the table in the first half of this season but they've got to
00:23:12see this
00:23:12weekend this opportunity to land the blow of their own don't think of this as a let's try and just
00:23:17take second place behind mark marquez and get out of germany go out and try and beat it of course
00:23:21don't
00:23:22crash trying to achieve it but what would it say about aprilia and their title challenge going into
00:23:26the second half of the campaign if they can defeat mark marquez at the saxophone it would be a huge
00:23:31milestone for them with a drop it down through turn two first japanese winner in moto gp in 397 races
00:23:40their
00:23:41first win since mategi with makoto tomada back in 2024 back in 20 2004 rather 7952 days between japanese
00:23:52wins in money gp fantastic weekend all around wasn't it for ayagura didn't panic when he got a little
00:24:00bit beaten up in the early stage of that netherlands grand prix dropped down to what fifth or sixth place
00:24:05at one point and then just cruised his way through the field let's take a relatively convincing
00:24:10win by over two seconds he felt this is a tougher challenge a tougher prospect this weekend uh for
00:24:16agura who by his own admission said he'd be happy to head back home to japan for his summer break
00:24:22with a pair of top six finishes how's it getting on this afternoon at the moment is down in 16th
00:24:27place
00:24:27which i suppose if we look on the positives is one place hard when he finished ft1 this morning when
00:24:32he was
00:24:32in a lowly 17th and we've got an aprilia leading and a pretty fourth teammate to ayagura ral fernandez
00:24:38is in that fourth place i mean top this morning we've got marty in eighth place at the moment agura
00:24:43what
00:24:44some uh three tenths of a second away from the next aprilia ahead of him which is martin on a
00:24:48121
00:24:48one we're surely going to be well into the low 20s if not the 119s by the time we get
00:24:53to the business
00:24:54end of this practice session the lack record i don't think that's going to come under any great
00:24:58threat this afternoon could be wrong but a 119 zero fabio jen antonio from friday afternoon last year does
00:25:03feel out of range at this stage betecki currently on a mid 120 to lead this session at the quarter
00:25:09may mark
00:25:11mark 120.727 his best time of the day so far slightly faster than 120.8 he must have this
00:25:20morning
00:25:23mark marquez he'll be happy with a double podium of course he wants more i think he said yesterday
00:25:29didn't he i think there'll be a view that if mark doesn't take the full 37 points this weekend it'll
00:25:34be viewed as something of a bit of a disaster but he is thinking bigger picture having got himself
00:25:40back into championship contention having done so he's not going to want to blow too many points here by
00:25:46attacking too many cities to try and make it another saxon ring double just as he did here one year
00:25:52ago
00:25:52of course he was a different physical proposition when he attacked the german grand prix in 2025
00:25:58this is a very different mark marquez who said yesterday he was asked by our colleague adam wheeler
00:26:03in the press conference who does he see as his biggest threat his biggest rival in this year's
00:26:08world championship he said i was very simple it's my own body it's my own physical shape how much will
00:26:15mark need to take out of himself to extend his golden winning record here in the saxon ring
00:26:19and mark marquez for all the great memories he has here in the saxon ring for all the many many
00:26:24victories he's taken in moto gp moto 2 and 125 over the course of a glittering 15 16 year winning
00:26:33sequence at the saxon ring there have been some low points in the middle of all of that
00:26:37as well it was here that i think the penny finally dropped that mark marquez had had enough of repsol
00:26:44honda when he had those five crashes back in 2023 the crash in the morning warm-up which ultimately led
00:26:49him to call it a day at the end of the warm session didn't even start the grand prix on
00:26:55that particular
00:26:56occasion and even the second place he took to peka banyaya here on screen uh in 2024 market had a
00:27:02big
00:27:02crash earlier in the weekend on friday he was far from 100 physically fit on that occasion either
00:27:07so mark knows better than anybody that as strong as he is around this circuit if he does start taking
00:27:13undue risks then he could quite easily find himself in yet more injury trouble which uh at this stage of
00:27:19the season at this stage of his career is the furthest thing mark marquez wants he's going to unleash
00:27:23himself more than what he did or more than what he was happy to do so last time out in
00:27:27aston where you just
00:27:28felt like there was no point from the first lap of fb1 on friday to the last lap of that
00:27:33sunday's
00:27:34race at the tt circuit acid did you really feel like mark was really sticking his neck out and putting
00:27:39it all on the line he said himself it was a safety mode weekend well has that safety mode been
00:27:46fully
00:27:46disengaged is he in full attack mode here this weekend to go for the full 37 points a 37 point
00:27:54maximum hall which would really ramp up the pressure on those ahead of him in the world championship he
00:27:58has climbed up to fifth overall in the rankings he's 15 points behind iagura in fourth place in the
00:28:06standings there's luca marini a bit of uh welcome cheer for the italian what a pretty miserable morning
00:28:12session did luca on the factory honda down in 20th place he's up now into p12 121.7 this morning
00:28:19has been
00:28:20bettered by a 121.4 so far this afternoon strong strong links connecting marini with a possible seat
00:28:28at tech 3 ktm in 2027 we know he has no place at honda next year so it looks like
00:28:35maybe potential
00:28:36career lifeline could be thrown to him by gutter steiner and the austrian factory and what we can
00:28:41say with uh growing confidence by the weekend is that maverick pinales isn't going to be part of that
00:28:46tech 3 ktm team for next season that is the spot that is going to open up potentially for luca
00:28:51marini
00:28:51with tech 3 clear but steiner has told us this he told jack this a couple of weekends ago that
00:28:57they
00:28:57have an eye on one experienced and one rookie uh to make up their tech 3 ktm line of for
00:29:04next season
00:29:05and vinales with some once again very strong and forthright comments which won't have pleased ktm or
00:29:09tech 3 a top brass yesterday on the eve of this german grand prix weekend and a weekend for vinales
00:29:15that has
00:29:15started off track with some uh disappointment or some unhappiness and it started on track uh with a
00:29:22high speed get off at the ralph volman curve turn 11 earlier on this morning where he made a complete
00:29:26mess of his ktm sometimes you can talk your way into a gig sometimes you can talk your way out
00:29:32of a
00:29:33gig and it seems like that's the strategy that's being employed right now by maverick pinales
00:29:37who just seems to have gone full motor mouth full guns blazing the top gun on ktm management at the
00:29:44moment certainly i think it's fair to say rather dissatisfied with how his 27 job prospects have
00:29:52turned out as we once again track fabio the gen antonio down the hill into the saxon curve third
00:29:59gear through here about 115 120 kilometers now before this sharp climb up through the second gear
00:30:04quickenberg turn 13 just for reference the long lap penalty loop is on the outside of that final call
00:30:11now digi getting on yeah doing a consistent run that's another low 121 from the italian as he
00:30:18completes his 10th lap of the session it's best time so far this afternoon is that 120.875
00:30:25yeah six tenths of a second covering the top 10 of betseki mark alex marquez ral fernandez acosta
00:30:32gian antonio bagnaya martin miller and more of a delhi at the moment so we've uh got representation from
00:30:38aprilia jucati ktm and yamaha with jet medal on the uh track number 43 bike in ninth place leading
00:30:46honda at the moment is the aforementioned luca marini in 12th place on 21 402. juan mir who was
00:30:54the leading honda this morning he was in the 120s this morning being fourth quickest overall earlier
00:30:57on today he's yet to find a 120 this afternoon which is why the 2020 champion is down in 19.
00:31:03ral fernandez has only had one better mother gp weekend in the sprint and grand prix era compared
00:31:09to us and last time out that was his memorable experience in philippe island last year where he won his
00:31:15first grand prix success down under in australia creeping himself keeping himself in title
00:31:22the contention is he fernandez do not rule him out one of a few dark horse contenders you feel
00:31:29for glory potentially in 2026 first podium in nine grand prix last time out over in assent
00:31:35assent was like the second time in his grand prix career he's led on a sunday his 89th start
00:31:41in the previous time he'd been at the front of the grand prix was in that very same australian
00:31:46grand prix last year what's happened here between there's that keep morbidelli there it is yeah
00:31:51morbidelli right so who uh has been uh a frequent visitor to the hot water section of mana gp hasn't
00:31:57here late this time around it's pedro acosta that's getting a little bit irate it was bastionini on
00:32:03another ktm uh which uh came across a cruising morbidelli and one of the fastest parts one of the scariest
00:32:09parts of
00:32:10pattern and we saw frankie once again have an appointment with simon crafer the chief f1
00:32:16maddie v steward and the naughty step might be awaiting once again there's more additions to
00:32:21that movie in the star wars series unfortunately for frankie morbidelli and it's always seems to
00:32:26happen for frankie when he's on a slower lap potentially an out lap which looking on our timing
00:32:31screens he is on a uh 10th lap of the session i don't think he's uh been recently in the
00:32:36pits as
00:32:36frankie morbidelli but once again just uh daunting on the racing line there are a few other ways of
00:32:41putting it and this time it was pedro costo almost coming across at the wrong possible because it was
00:32:46bastionini on another ktm who nearly ran into the back of morbidelli in the super fast uh turn 12 13
00:32:52sequence back at acid that was already a second defense of the season for frankie morbidelli so uh
00:32:58might be about to chalk up a third shame that for acosta because he just set the fastest first section
00:33:03of the
00:33:03session as well so he was flying that's what acosta was so hot under the collar about understandably so
00:33:09and the fi motor gp stewards uh will be uh monitoring very closely maybe another indiscretion from
00:33:16frankie morbidelli lots to talk about though uh with ktm motorsport director pit buyer an all-new
00:33:22factory lineup next year featuring alex marquez and fabio del antonio some experience like that for the
00:33:28austrian brand next year this ongoing saga about who will be occupying the two seats at tech three
00:33:34next year so playing to get through with jack and pit buyer yeah absolutely we heard from both the
00:33:40grassini and the amaha camps this morning on their 2027 lineup so it's only fair that we get
00:33:45pit your opinion on your brand new lineup for 2027 and what an exciting one it is as well alex
00:33:51marquez marquez and fabio jiden antonio both proven moto gp race winners now in the prime of their careers
00:33:58i imagine you're delighted to have that blend of talent going at it in 2027 yeah i mean absolutely
00:34:05because um for us maybe it was a crucial moment what's going on on the rider market and uh but
00:34:12then
00:34:12when when everything was quite turbulent to secure two boys of this on this level uh both alex and fabio
00:34:21um boys with an amazing amazing skills from moto gp i mean what they can do is proven on track
00:34:27everybody can see uh the same thing what i could see but beside that also getting two persons on board
00:34:34which are just really nice boys so all in all it's something we are really looking forward to uh for
00:34:39next season you've always been really honest with us and said replacing a talent like pedro acosta was
00:34:44always going to be difficult but going into a new era new regulations new tires having that blend of
00:34:50experience do you think you've you've gone a long way in replacing what pedro brings to ktm
00:34:55well i mean it's no no secret i mean we had to swallow that pedro wants to leave us because
00:35:00he's so long with us rookies cup moto three world champion moto two world champion broken leg coming back
00:35:07you know like so many things we went through together and um and then yeah you you yeah you were
00:35:14just
00:35:14building together the project and him as a rider but as always life goes on there is one moment it
00:35:21was
00:35:21like looking for us quite frustrating honestly because we never planned for like the replacement
00:35:26of course we were putting all cards on on on him somehow but uh always if one door is closing
00:35:33another
00:35:33one is opening and then we just could see that these boys are developing uh really strong they made both
00:35:39of
00:35:40them another clear step uh this year in performance and uh to get in contact with them to talk to
00:35:45them
00:35:46to make it with them was refreshing in the same moment of course in the background we feel this 850
00:35:52is
00:35:52is a perfect restart for ktm because in the whole project so far we never had the chance to to
00:35:58really
00:35:59overthink everything good again and make major changes to something what you want to do for example in
00:36:05in the bike characteristic because the bike is just growing and then you you add on development but
00:36:11all the learning now from from i would say two bike models which we had in our short moto gp
00:36:16career
00:36:17is now packed into the 850 and but the 850 needs also super super strong riders and and i feel
00:36:24this
00:36:24package is getting complete now and uh we are really looking forward for this mention a full reset does
00:36:30seem as though all four current ktm riders will be leaving at the end of 2026 maverick vinales this
00:36:36weekend quite strong in his comments saying that that ktm offered him a contract he signs that contract
00:36:43and then two weeks later was told that that contract wasn't valid it's only fair i give you the opportunity
00:36:49to give your side of the story but what has happened with maverick because just a short time ago you
00:36:55were
00:36:55speaking so glowingly about what an effort he has done last year to bring ktm to where they are today
00:37:01so what has gone so wrong between the pair of you wow i mean it's no secret that somehow we
00:37:09had hoped that
00:37:09he will be one of the factory riders in the future and um so last summer we were discussing this
00:37:15and opened
00:37:16this door and this discussion but uh he told us don't worry for my health i'm backed by spielberg last
00:37:21year that's where he made his first comeback since then we are waiting always week by week to have
00:37:26him to full form and uh and there was a moment when when we had the chance to to get
00:37:32alex and fabio
00:37:33and and in that moment maverick was just just nowhere near to show us that he will come back to
00:37:38that old form we wouldn't need a better rider than maverick was when exactly here today a year ago
00:37:44um when he had this this stupid crash in the rain and uh but from there things went somehow
00:37:51terrible wrong because later on we told him but there will be a space for you but but we cannot
00:37:56tell you where and what but then looks like he underestimated that this could be also the team
00:38:02where he is today um where he had great performance last year i didn't know that this is for him
00:38:07no
00:38:08option so so somehow i mean he chose now to say that our our second team which is not the
00:38:15b-level team
00:38:16i mean we we are working that both teams are getting on a first class level especially now
00:38:20with gunter i feel the boys gunter is pushing so strong together with us we can create a fantastic
00:38:27team for the future and uh i mean don't you think or we like the rider market doesn't get better
00:38:36by
00:38:36waiting and what do you think who we were waiting for uh waiting and not signing a rider uh was
00:38:42just
00:38:42purely to give maverick more time to get ready to show us something i needed to show something i also
00:38:47cannot just take a rider and say gunter that's your rider i mean we are planning together we decided
00:38:52clearly one of the guys will be a young rider coming out of moto two but we want an experienced
00:38:57rider next to it so i i really feel sorry for the situation because we we we like maverick so
00:39:04much
00:39:04he's such a good boy and um i don't know why he says so clearly no to one thing and
00:39:09on the other
00:39:10side gives us such a hard uh hard stop so we have to to clear that out it's not a
00:39:16it's not a nice
00:39:17situation but it's definitely not like we told him please leave uh we started a negotiation and we
00:39:23still have a spot which we still call a factory spot because we see both teams as factory uh four
00:39:29factory
00:39:29spots in total so yeah that's that's what i can say i don't want to tell you now uh any
00:39:36contract details
00:39:36and what what happened which and where but uh it's it's not a funny situation so just to clarify as
00:39:43soon as those two factory seats were taken by both alex and fabio you've offered him the spot at tech
00:39:49to a maverick himself has said that that's not an option i don't i don't want to tell you in
00:39:56detail
00:39:56what he said in which moment because now you're going to ask him again and then this goes like ping
00:40:01pong but we started just a very normal contract conversation um we talked already about uh figures
00:40:10and stuff how the future could look but then at one stage things went just wrong when when he found
00:40:15out it's not about the factory spot and like i said i understand this frustration because that was his hope
00:40:21and and and and and he's believing in the factory and and then he's ready to fight for the factory
00:40:26and
00:40:27so he wanted a seat in that in that one team but uh yeah it's we we i don't know
00:40:35we have to calm him
00:40:36down because it's still also still this year a very long season and we need to get to get him
00:40:41back in
00:40:42a better mood and also still still get his food body fitness back because moto gp is damn dangerous uh
00:40:49not
00:40:49to be fit and and always uh hesitating on on reaction on the bike so we still need him slightly
00:40:56fitter
00:40:57and uh i think we need to talk properly what what happened and why he should say clearly no to
00:41:02some
00:41:02for me great place in this paddock and uh let's use the summer break to calm down and maybe restart
00:41:10in
00:41:10a positive way after that just very quickly that door is still open to maverick or would you say it's
00:41:15now closed
00:41:19we will we will now i will say everything is open over the whole weekend here that was our deadline
00:41:24between me and winter where we really want to decide what the future brings so we never said no to
00:41:29maverick
00:41:30so the target or timing didn't change and because of one emotional talk because we should not forget
00:41:38i really want to protect this boy we are talking here about if he takes this decision could be his
00:41:43end of
00:41:44of racing and uh so it's very sensitive and that he's not just always calm about this and and uh
00:41:50i can
00:41:51fully understand so because just he said one time something too strong no problem with us the spot is
00:41:57open but time is time is ticking against us thanks as of a fear honesty have a great weekend thank
00:42:02you
00:42:04yeah great stuff back into that jack down there with ktm motorsport director uh pit byra
00:42:10uh it's pretty clear when you read the uh the websites the social media channels of the press here in
00:42:18mother gp maverick finnales has decided to go on the attack in some respects against ktm maverick will
00:42:23have his reasons he'll have his motives uh for that particular strategy but you have to say
00:42:28the pit bar has just mounted a very robust uh defense and a very plausible defense about ktm's position
00:42:34on the situation door not then fully closed on maverick finnales in terms of 2027 ktm seat
00:42:42well i think it's uh not quite a jar either it's uh yeah this one's going to all play out
00:42:48isn't it
00:42:48over the uh the next few days weeks and months or so if you believe the gossip columns as well
00:42:55it
00:42:55looks like finnales's tenure not just at ktm is over maybe his grand prix career is over as well
00:43:00as pitt alluded to there so it is tough times difficult moments uh for a rider who's won 10
00:43:07times in mother gp center ages and luca marini possibly maybe manu gonzalez those three names are
00:43:15being strongly linked uh with tech three uh next year decision time though is coming quickly
00:43:21hard to argue with anything that pitt said there really lewis no for me it's very very simple no one
00:43:27i don't think anyone in this panic is doubting the talent that maverick vinales has got winner in
00:43:33moto gp for three different manufacturers and you know he's in a very elite club of riders who could
00:43:39say they've done that in their career but since this grand prix last year since the crash uh which uh
00:43:47pippo described as a stupid crash in the rain it was yeah a crash that you know could very easily
00:43:52happen in any rain affected session when he damaged his shoulder maverick vinales has not been the
00:43:57same rider since and i've said this before already at the start of the season if you're giving maverick
00:44:02vinales a two-year contract potentially at this stage for 2027 and 2028 you are guessing that he is
00:44:11going to physically get to where he is in the coming year year and a half two years and you
00:44:16know every
00:44:17rider signing is a guest to a certain extent because no one can predict the future but i think quite
00:44:22understandably ktm would want to see genuine truth on the racetrack that maverick vinales can reach
00:44:28that level again and it's not maverick's fault you know he's he's physically he can only do what he
00:44:32can and if his shoulder isn't recuperated he can't reach that level again then unfortunately that's how
00:44:37it's going to go but maverick is uh clearly fighting a losing battle and the time is not on his
00:44:41side now
00:44:42there's already too much water passed on that particular bridge as far as the vinales ktm
00:44:48relationship affairs cal crunch low well there's life in the old dog yet isn't there cal crunch low on a
00:44:55brand new soft front tire software tire has just got himself when he was briefly inside the top 10
00:45:00brad vinder just killed that particular story thanks very much brad but cal crunch though was inside the
00:45:05top 10 with a 121.121 at the ripe old age of 40 still resting on a gp bike around
00:45:14this section ring
00:45:15circuit and to a lap of the low 121s absolutely astonishing by the lc a honda rider sub that is
00:45:221.4 seconds quicker than he waited in pre-practice for this morning he's on another fairly strong
00:45:28lap i'm not sure he's going to improve on that 21-1 on this lap we're following crunch low across
00:45:32the line
00:45:32it's a 21-5 uh for the brit so he stays in p11 but yeah with the silverstone coming up
00:45:39next the other
00:45:40side of the summer break and with john zarko eyeing a september return and one would expect that britain
00:45:45will be represented in the motor gp class via cal crutch locals from a pulsed tramponian finisher there
00:45:50on the second weekend of august nice stranger to the box here as well in the sax ring second in
00:45:562013
00:45:56second in 2016 third most recently back in 2019 that's a heck of a lap time a brilliant time that
00:46:05uh by cal crutch though he's got martin miller marrera warmudeli marini vinales rins bastioni mir and
00:46:12razz got the old loop behind it it might not last but let's enjoy it uh while it does at
00:46:18the front as
00:46:18well while we're listening to jack i have had a fascinating chat with pit by marco betsecki did actually
00:46:23set the best time of the day at best improving to a 120.535 which has stretched his advantage in
00:46:31this
00:46:31session to almost 210 to the second calco is also the top honda at the moment in this session that
00:46:37may
00:46:37also not last because diogo marrera has just set the fastest first sector so far and is going very
00:46:42quickly bastionini is into the 120s but not enough to dislodge binder from the top 10 so bastionini on the
00:46:48tech three rc16 he now moves up into 11th flex said how do you replace pedro acosta you don't uh
00:46:56you
00:46:56can't and they have to strike when alex marquez and fabio del antonio and made it clear that they were
00:47:02on
00:47:02the open market and they were interested in making the transfer to ktm well ktm could not sleep on that
00:47:09but they had to seize the chance uh to get two proven race winning talents in mana gp if unfortunately
00:47:17it's
00:47:18maverick finales that's left as the on one out it's fabio del antonio well he's already the all-time
00:47:22that record holder here in the sax ring digia the ktm band italian goes fastest with a 120.104 that
00:47:31is
00:47:31to jan antonio in full time attack mode as you can see he's got a brand new soft front and
00:47:36soft rear
00:47:36tire fitted so that's the best time of the day so far by some margin over four tenths clear now
00:47:41of
00:47:42bears we haven't seen uh the factory prettiest go for a time attack yet we saw a guru while we
00:47:47were
00:47:47hearing from uh peter buyer upon a soft rear tire himself up into what is now fourth place here is
00:47:52marini on a brand new soft rear tire looking to take top honda runners away from cal crutch slowly there's
00:47:57much more than that he goes up to third which now becomes fourth as bastionini takes his ktm into
00:48:02the top three just feels like given the fact that we've got a very short well the shortest layout
00:48:06on the calendar 3.671 kilometers a lot of riders are going a little bit earlier than normal uh for
00:48:13soft rubber just to make sure that there's no issues late on with traffic trying to find a clear spot
00:48:18around this tight narrow saxophone circuit never easy in time attacks yellow flags could also be a big
00:48:25factor as well so two italians bastionini and marini have gone early we've got an all italian lockout
00:48:31at the top four right now digi obez uh the beast and marini and then we've got mark marquez i
00:48:37go
00:48:37alex marquez and ralph fernandez that takes you down to eight the costa and bagnaya currently ninth
00:48:42and tenth you've got to be in the 120 to have anyhow for the top 10 i think it's going
00:48:45to have to be a low
00:48:46120 if you're going to have any hope that's consecutive low 120s for fabio di gian antonio that
00:48:51120.237 it's still three tenths quicker than anyone else has gone this afternoon
00:48:56maverick vinales you can see his name at the bottom of your screens well very much it seems
00:49:01fighting for his future is he already though fighting a losing battle certainly some clear
00:49:06tension has appeared between uh vinales and top management at ktm and tech 3 but there he goes
00:49:14right on cue it just shows that the speed is still there a 120.784 has pushed maverick up inside
00:49:21the top 10 he was briefly eighth until frankie morbidelli intervened and found a 120.769 which
00:49:27pushes him into p6 it feels like his customary appointment with simon crayfow to come later on
00:49:32frankie morbidelli for impeding pedro acosta early in this practice session but he's not got any thoughts
00:49:37of that at the moment as he goes sick so now outside the top 10 we have acosta and bagnaya
00:49:4311th and
00:49:4312th quateraro who's done a 20.8 on the mr state 13th binder crutchlow martin down to 16th but
00:49:50hasn't put a soft rear tire in yet so he's got much more up his sleeve miller marrera rings this
00:49:56man juan mir and top of azgati oglu the 2020 world champion climbs 16 places though and he now moves
00:50:02into
00:50:02the top four so it's honda's fourth and fifth both the factory hondas then picking a fight inside that
00:50:08top five at the moment juan mir confirming what we've expected the news to come for quite some
00:50:15time that he is moving to brazini ducati in 2027 so here is vinales briefly as high as eight pushed
00:50:23back down to 10 which if it stays as is which is highly unlikely given the fact we've still got
00:50:28over
00:50:2818 arguments remaining he will be good enough uh to put maverick vinales through to q2
00:50:34for hey martin not any significant move yet from the martinator on uh fresh rubber only twice so far
00:50:40this season as martin featured uh in q1 in catalunya and bruno he has featured in all 10 q2 sessions
00:50:47so
00:50:47far this season though it would be the first q2 of the season for vinales if he hangs on to
00:50:51that
00:50:52joint near as i rolled out of this current lap so he won't be improving on fourth we've got pekka
00:50:56banaya and alex marquez who are now on out lap so it looks like we're going to see the first
00:51:00signs of
00:51:00soft tire running from that particular pair of jacatis so that's a good lap by me at 120.633
00:51:09still over half a second behind the impressive pace of the jan antonio
00:51:14once again it's just rock solid he's like running the boat isn't he you just know what you're going to
00:51:20get with fabio di antonio just right there in that top five top six battle session after session sprint
00:51:28after sprint grand prix after grand prix as we pick up bangnai then 13th fastest 15 riders then now are
00:51:35in
00:51:35the 120s those that are still seeking their first 120 of the weekend are crotch low martin the world
00:51:42championship leader plenty more to come uh from the one lap specialist we've got jack miller also in the
00:51:47121 so to diogo marrera alex frins and razgatlioglu if a marini in fifth back going up one place higher
00:51:55mir in fourth on a 20.6 down to binder in 15th place just a third of a second uh
00:52:01covering them
00:52:01that's what 12 riders and some of those are going to be on the wrong side of that cutoff from
00:52:0610th
00:52:07backwards and a place in qualifying one will be heading to them if they can't get any higher than a
00:52:1120.7 at the moment and that's of course so very much aiming at a moving target it's surely going
00:52:15to be a
00:52:15low 120 that you're going to require by the end of this session banyaya clearly at this stage is not
00:52:20focusing on outright time attack pace of course we saw him as recently as asin leaving very very late
00:52:26to get himself into the top 10 so uh banyaya clearly playing poker once again banging in a big lap
00:52:31here
00:52:31with alex marquez look at alex bottom of your screens he has been super quick through the first
00:52:36half of this saxon ring lap alex surely already in q2 in ninth place but potentially uh going to be
00:52:43jumping up inside or challenging for that top three as banyaya calls it quits he's coming back into bit
00:52:49lane we ride on board then with alex on the 73 brisini ducati no firminal to get here this weekend
00:52:55unfortunately so going on his lonesome here for the italian team is alex marquez and right on cue
00:53:01brilliant lap that by alex a 120.314 slots him up into second place just over two tenths he is
00:53:10now
00:53:10behind fabio the gel antonio so kt will be liking the or liking what they see on the time screens
00:53:16right now because their future factory line of his first and second in this session yep we're yet to
00:53:21see mark abedzecki really go for it is this now where we see mark marquez go for it and show
00:53:25his hand
00:53:26brand new soft rear tire for the reigning world champion as he eyes up a lap in the 119 surely
00:53:32mark marquez
00:53:33he'll have his eye on that he uh did the free practice one session on this morning on a single
00:53:38set of tires very much catches cards close to his chest now is the time for mark marquez to show
00:53:43them
00:53:47wow just wow what a shot that is 200 kilometers now maybe a little bit more
00:53:53as the world's best riders from it downhill through one of the world's scariest corners
00:53:59completely blind on the entry marco bettesecki lacking confidence after his reason look at that
00:54:06power sliding via prillia down the hill great shots there from our production crew alex marquez
00:54:13was super strong through the first half of his fastest lap in the session he was pretty good on this
00:54:17one as well wasn't he other line he goes and there's more time found then at fort the spaniard a
00:54:23120.194
00:54:25the field are starting to close in now on the gel antonio one of those certainly going to be
00:54:31the reigning world champion mark marquez let's just track him then as he ticks through this
00:54:36second split attacking now through the left-hander of turn eight yeah this is brilliant by marquez if he
00:54:42carries this on through he'll be in p1 he's in his domain here through left-handed corners i mean he's
00:54:47very good two right-handers let's face it but around left smart marquez is way better than anyone else
00:54:52on the planet and there are plenty of lefts around this saxo ring that's the fearsome right of the
00:54:56ralph vormann curve where he's lost a smidge of his advantage a sniff and tuck here between
00:55:00mark marquez and fabulous jan antonio can the world champion find the first 1.19 of the day
00:55:06just one corner left then for the 93 it is the second gear quackenberg corner just under 100
00:55:12commerce now at the curb on the inside they go through the gearbox now it is p1 it is of
00:55:18course
00:55:18it is the first 1.19 from marquee absolutely nailed that last sector got the last two left-handers
00:55:26absolutely spot on one at 19.8 for one and that has altered the landscape all of a sudden here
00:55:34in the section because i don't know where mark marquez leads the field by over a quarter of a second
00:55:41aprilia now set about their response jorge martin leaves the pit lane down in 17th place
00:55:46marco badecki in a much safer position at the moment up in p4 surely he's got a 119 up his
00:55:53sleeve if he can
00:55:53nail a lap on board that factory of brillia but in a season where it feels like the
00:55:57pendulum of pressure has been swinging between marco badecki and jorge martin at least at this stage
00:56:03of the saxo ring action 13 minutes to go of practice the pressure is on martin now marini in
00:56:08seventh place he's only been in q2 twice so far this season that's the italian about in austin and most
00:56:14recently at the grand free of hungary in balaton 120.688 still keeping luca marini with big interesting
00:56:21cutie in fact it's got better for the number 10 another rider who's very much in the shop window
00:56:26for 2027 marini then up to fourth for the 120.278 and razgalioglu on the move he's another rider into
00:56:34the
00:56:36120s jack miller on the pramatt yamaha admittedly he was weak in the fourth sector earlier on this morning
00:56:42but we know that miller can produce a special lap when he fancies it we're waiting him across the line
00:56:47right now miller goes up into second place and matches identically mark marquez is 1.198
00:56:53well if you're doing anything at the saxo ring that gets close let alone match the pace of mark marquez
00:56:59well then you know you're riding out your skin and you are riding quite superbly look how pumped
00:57:05miller was then with very good reason because jack's never lapsed saxo ring that fast that's a brilliant
00:57:12time 119.841 from 93 and 43 but what about fabio del antonio don't think he's going to get close
00:57:20to
00:57:20his all-time that record of a 119 flat you won't be too far away pedro acosta on the money
00:57:25as well
00:57:26the factor ktm did you over the line for the 119.674 49 they're now back in control of this
00:57:34practice and they
00:57:34do have an answer to mark marquez or at least they do at this stage as marini continues to go
00:57:40quickly
00:57:40he improves again marini safeguards his fit place 120.2 for marini so it's now mir outside the top 10
00:57:48mir marrera agura vinales and ralph fernandez so three of the four aprilias at the moment are outside
00:57:54the q2 spots as well already inside the top 10 in seventh he's threatening the top four or five what
00:58:01about pedro acosta just outside that top five at the moment in six places he's got his team mate
00:58:06binder directly behind him and they now go fourth and fifth respectively good little bit of teamwork
00:58:11there between the factory ktm stars and finally finally pushed all the way down to 20th this is the
00:58:17first serious time attack from jorge martin and of course he makes it pay he makes it count
00:58:23a 120.185 from the spaniard up 14 places 20 to six that's a lot more likely from the world
00:58:31champion
00:58:31leader it shows how quickly it can change now it's benceki under pressure he's just improved to a 20.4
00:58:36but benceki's now only in ninth place that now becomes 10th as ralph fernandez becomes the top
00:58:41aprilia in this practice session a 20.1 puts him sixth three riders then in the 19s
00:58:47119.6 from digia a pair of 119.8 for ones from marquez and miller pekka bagnay we've just seen
00:58:54a
00:58:55massive leap forward in performance in time from jorge martin 20th to briefly six pekka bagnay needs a
00:59:02similar significant step as well on the factory ducati there he is on the 63 bike dropping down
00:59:08through turn 11 trying to make up this is where mark marquez made up all of his uh time in
00:59:14that
00:59:14119.8 he was so so good as you'd expect he would be through those last two left-handers what
00:59:20about
00:59:20morbidelli is this good enough for the top 10 over the line frankie goes it is 16th 7th but it's
00:59:26all
00:59:27eyes now on bagnay who's been bumped back down to 18 spot over the line we go with the italian
00:59:32boy creeps in by the skin of his teeth 120.206 puts pekko 10. and eyes on agora and benceki
00:59:38too
00:59:39fourth and second respectively in the world championship they've been tumbled way out of the top 10
00:59:44with that flow of improvements here they both are agora looking to move himself up eight places
00:59:49that becomes seven as benceki now gets himself into the 119s and safely up into four you might
00:59:54feel that that's good enough as well there's still nine minutes of this session remaining certainly at
00:59:59risk certainly in the danger zone is our last winner ayagura as you mentioned there and never been in
01:00:06grand prix history since it all began in 1949 in the top class a japanese rider who's been able to
01:00:12win a
01:00:12successive grand prix as alex marquez well you know that alex is more than capable of delivering a top
01:00:19flap time as it goes wrong there uh for anaya basti nini they got it all wrong going through turn
01:00:24eight
01:00:25so he has to roll out of it shame as well because anaya has set the fastest first sector of
01:00:30the
01:00:30session he was on a flyer how costly could that prove to be for the beast felt like a cup
01:00:34of coffee ago
01:00:34alex marquez was up in second place he's now 11th we've got the top four in 119s we've got a
01:00:40costa
01:00:40and binder on 20.0s and then fernandez morbidelli martin agura and alex marquez all on 120.1s
01:00:48alex marquez zeroing in now himself on a lap in the 119s this is going to put him somewhere near
01:00:54his
01:00:54brother and jack miller who are locked together second and third on identical times alex marquez does
01:00:58squeak ahead of the pair of them and take second something happened to agura big time in the third
01:01:02sector because he was motoring towards the top 10 but he's now he lost eight tenths he lost about three
01:01:08quarters of a second he's coming into the pits right now is agura well that's a deliberate ploy
01:01:13whether something happened to him on that lap where he's just decided to abort and pit but then you can
01:01:18see your most recent mother gp winner the 125th in mother gp history by agura to stand on the top
01:01:26step of
01:01:26the podium now jack miller will probably feel that that 119.841 is good enough to get jack into q2
01:01:34as he has a little chat a little bit of a debrief with his crew chief jacomo with dotty
01:01:40that is a heck of a time by jack miller another rider another very experienced rider another proven
01:01:47race winning talent in the current mother gp crop who is looking for employment job seeking right now
01:01:55there's jack miller for 50 years at the moment then so as it stands as we move into this final
01:02:02time
01:02:02attack phase of practice it's digia the marquez brothers miller bez seki acosta binder ralph
01:02:09fernandez mormulele and martin that are going directly through to q2 surely that though is going to chop and
01:02:15change in the final throws of this session peko bangay needs to find some time he's 12th
01:02:21ayagura as the winner needs to find some time he's just outside of the top 10 and 11th nothing in
01:02:26it
01:02:26four pounds of a second is the gap between martin in 10th and agura in 11th
01:02:32believe it or not that is not jack miller's fastest yamaha lap for the sax ring he did a 19
01:02:36-6 here
01:02:37last year but uh hazard a guess it's somewhere near his best lap that he's done around the sax
01:02:42ring on a yellow heart to match mark marquez to the thousandth of a second so clearly under pressure
01:02:48agura banyaya we've got quatuaro are down in 16th place marrera who's been a quite a frequent visit
01:02:55to q2 lately he's down in 18th place on a 120.5 of course without very uh positive recent memories
01:03:01of
01:03:01the sax ring after his moto two exploits here last year and that collision with david alonso but marrera
01:03:07will surely be looking for uh someone most likely mark marquez to get a bit of a reference from to
01:03:12try
01:03:12and drag him into qt this has just been the ideal date so far for marco betseki just avoid mistakes
01:03:20avoid throwing yourself on the floor uh once again after one of the biggest crashes of his grand prix
01:03:24career last time out in aston it has been squeaky clean uh so far uh from bez it's best of
01:03:32119.9 is that
01:03:33good enough to get him directly through into tomorrow morning's second qualifying session
01:03:39we've said this a few times in recent months haven't we a big five minutes or so a big ending
01:03:44to friday
01:03:44practice for pekka banyaya the double mana chief world champion needs to deliver something special
01:03:51late on here he drops down the hill towards one of the three right handers here in the sax ring
01:03:56through
01:03:56the omega corner we go now this is more like it so often he does tend to deliver special late
01:04:02laps he does
01:04:04unleashed the fireworks late on he's about to unleash some very special ones here because as he powers
01:04:09through turn six as you can see banyaya up through the first sector by nine or tenth he does put
01:04:14some
01:04:14pressure on himself of course he does put himself at risk of yellow flags but wisely jacati sending banyaya
01:04:19out before the bulk of the field we've got around what eighty percent of the field are on outlaps at
01:04:24the
01:04:24moment so banyaya should be clear of any potential yellow flags at the very least on this first lap
01:04:29he's three quarters the way through it you can see though he's lost pretty much three tenths of a
01:04:33second in the second split he's going to have to get a little bit sharper in that phase of this
01:04:39sax and ring circuit if he is to be troubling the lead positions and we pick him up then now
01:04:44halfway
01:04:45around the final sector just one corner left for banyaya to negotiate it's turn 13 he'll climb up the
01:04:53hill blind run it is to the short finish line over the line we go now that's eight
01:05:00not what you say is fully safe and secure for the italian it's a 120.132 which for the time
01:05:06being is good enough yeah not in the 119s you feel that's a requirement here to be anything like
01:05:11comfortable of a place in the top 10 mark marquez is also on a very strong lap he's up at
01:05:16the halfway
01:05:16stage as banyaya has once again lit up the first sector agora improves but once again falls short he's
01:05:23down in 11. he's getting further away not quite much but he was four thousandths of a second away from
01:05:28the
01:05:28top ten a few moments ago now that's gone up to nine thousand fine fine margins
01:05:35could be a massive game change for a girl as weekend not exactly the easiest circuit to overtake here
01:05:40in the sax ring particularly that first sector where it's pretty much one line and you drop down through
01:05:45turn two three four five very much one line martin then in sixth place as mark marquez normal
01:05:52service has been resumed at the sax ring albeit for the time being because ralph fernandez is on a fly
01:05:57but
01:05:57mark marquez leads with a 119.394 ralph fernandez does indeed jump up into second place and on a
01:06:05brilliant performance by the track house a pre-rider fernandez with a 119.5 surely he's through yeah we're
01:06:12now not a million miles away from the all-time lap record of a 19-0 from the gil antonio
01:06:16last year the
01:06:17honda challenge has plateaued a bit because we've got marini down to 14 now and mere 16
01:06:22more has only gone 17 as bastianini scrapes himself into the final q2 spot as it stands but
01:06:28agura is about to change that yes he is coming and he needs this lap potentially p5 was our estimated
01:06:35guess of where i might end up on this lap over like he goes it's one place further down but
01:06:42he won't care
01:06:42he will not care one jot because at the moment a 119.906 is going to get agura through into
01:06:51q2
01:06:53banyaya is on a slower lap at the moment he's building up for one final attempt as juan mir is
01:06:57on a slower
01:06:58lap for all the wrong reasons because he's off into the gravel trap at the moment on his factory honda
01:07:02mir now down into 16th place trying to find a safe way of rejoining the racetrack has a good look
01:07:07behind
01:07:08and there's now a crash into the uh fast right hand left under there for enea bastianini by the looks
01:07:13of it on
01:07:13his tech 3 ktm who will not be improving on 11th that could do for banyaya yellow flags coming out
01:07:19here late on
01:07:20there's still two minutes just a little bit under two minutes of the session remaining but those
01:07:24yellow flags might be out for a fair chunk of time here as they try to clear away enea's crash
01:07:30ktm
01:07:30yet losing the front going into turn eight we've seen that mistake made by the best down the years
01:07:36banyaya was down in 13th place yellow flags might get cleared pretty quickly 90 seconds remaining
01:07:43enea bastianini is not going to go through to q2 because when he dumped it at eight he was down
01:07:48in 11th
01:07:49place so session over a full faster you need it yeah banyaya is just about to start his final time
01:07:55lap of the session he's just gone over the line now so banyaya's got about 40 seconds or so for
01:07:59those
01:07:59yellow flags to clear the other flags are still showing up through turn eight as they now uh kick
01:08:05that corner now so brad binder has he just got through in time they have now cleared well did binder
01:08:10crucially
01:08:11just maybe back out of it a little bit he comes through turn eight now binder was on a charge
01:08:15there
01:08:16wasn't he he's just directly behind jorge martin's got good track position here hasn't he bad binder
01:08:21well he almost trips up through the turn alone we're going he sat up that he martini checked up the
01:08:28stewards might have a close look at that one as well as binder clearly just had to sort of uh
01:08:33close the
01:08:34throttle as he dropped down through 11. don't do that there i have to say that's one of the uh
01:08:39more
01:08:39dicey places to uh get out of the throttle and sit up banyaya is not improving look halfway around
01:08:45he's half a second now banyaya's gonna need some serious magic in the second half of this lap
01:08:49otherwise he's heading for a third q1 appearance fourth q1 appearance of the season stuck down his
01:08:5413th place then at the moment is banyaya alex marquez doesn't really need to find time but he is chasing
01:09:00it
01:09:00just as you knew he would do already in fourth place is alex as banyaya's completely backed out of it
01:09:07so
01:09:07that is game over i think he felt like he wasn't going to have enough time to get to the
01:09:10finish line
01:09:11alex marquez does find a pb lap time which keeps him in at p4 impressive work again by alex who
01:09:18is
01:09:18nowhere near at full fitness but uh calling on all his reserves uh fighting spirit and talent
01:09:25and then make sure he eases through into q2 uh so peco bagnay has taken the checker flag session over
01:09:32for
01:09:32the italian he will then feature in q1 tomorrow morning no problem i know bother for the likes of
01:09:39mark marquez ral fernandez fabio de gelantonio alex marquez jack miller ayagura marco vetseki that seven
01:09:46are the seven the magnificent seven who found 119 this afternoon and surely they have booked their places in
01:09:52q2 martine eight the cost of nine more modeli 10th can't see anybody making any serious charge
01:10:00towards breaking up that top 10 right now yeah as it stands and unlikely to change we've got four
01:10:05ducatis four aprilias and we've of course got the yamaha of miller and the ktm of acosta that is how
01:10:13your top 10 looks so that the surprise is to miss out i have to say banyaya down in 13th
01:10:20place on the
01:10:20factor he's the one ducati who calls not to make it through there are only five of them here with
01:10:25fermi now to get absent through injury and as good as it was looking for a part of that session
01:10:29only the
01:10:30one ktm and no honda's through burram catalunya hungary and now today here in the sax ring the four
01:10:38q1 appearances so far this season for bang naya but it was a a stock standard friday at the sax
01:10:45ring
01:10:45wasn't it for the reigning world champion mark marquez who acknowledges what's a pretty healthy sunkiss
01:10:52friday crowd here head of the grand prix of germany a 119.394 job very much well done for the
01:11:01factory
01:11:02ducati rider a very familiar p1 in the column next to the name of mark marquez here at the sax
01:11:07ring he
01:11:08ends day one quickest head of ral fernandez the good news for both track house and pretty is as they
01:11:14are both safely through what did i go tell us yesterday in the pre-event press conference
01:11:18i'll be happy to leave the weekend inside the top six well job done so far mission accomplished because
01:11:24he's ended day one in sixth place so it is mark marquez ral fernandez your ass and sprint winner
01:11:30fabio the ducati in the world championship and still sax and ring all time that record holder alex marquez
01:11:37quite brilliant once again jack miller superb leading the yamaha charge agura betseki martina
01:11:43costa and morbidelli they are your top 10 directly through to q2 well we all thought that jack miller
01:11:49might be suffering with a bit of jet lag after his exploits on the podium in last weekend suzuka
01:11:53eight hour over in japan but jet lag what jet lag for jack he's in q2 let's get the thoughts
01:11:58of the
01:11:59boss gino borsoi without jack yeah i don't think many people will argue against jack miller being
01:12:04performance of the day for aprilius for ducati's pedro costa and jack miller on the yamaha gino what
01:12:11a performance that is yeah it's incredible weekend uh so far i mean also this morning he did a really
01:12:17great job i'm happy about that he got a podium in suzuka this is important for you for yamaha for
01:12:23him
01:12:23and he come back here at the motor gp with a lot of strength so it's a good day i'm
01:12:29happy for jack
01:12:29absolutely good job for the rest of the weekend thank you yeah absolutely stunning performance that
01:12:35by the australian a 119.841 which at one stage was the exact same lap time that mark marquez had
01:12:43mustered in that session he is the fastest yamaha by some distance is miller he's 19.841
01:12:52the next best yamaha was fabio cuattara with a 120.2 so not far shy of half a second quicker
01:12:59than any other
01:12:59m1 out on circuit right now there was nothing else left in that i think is the crux of what
01:13:08jack miller
01:13:08was saying to his uh crew chief uh giacomo guidotti what performance that was there is plenty left in
01:13:16jack miller who has uh gone past the 200 mark of course of grand prix starts in 2026 but he
01:13:23does not
01:13:24want to call it a day in moto gp at the end of this season marco betseki well i think
01:13:30if you asked him
01:13:31or offered him seventh place and they crash free friday he would have taken that whether he's taking a
01:13:36bit of time to get off the bike due to a physical uh issue yeah you can see them they're
01:13:40just lowering
01:13:41the bike there to make it as easy as possible for marco betseki who is feeling that one isn't he
01:13:45big time betseki through in the end by just half a tenth but he is through seventh place i think
01:13:52the
01:13:52message from april and from the best camp is it doesn't matter where you finish just make sure
01:13:57you do finish after what has been a wretched a rotten recent run for the now former world champion leader
01:14:06jack miller ahead of his children 64th grand prix star well numero uno number one was right here 15
01:14:14long years ago all the way back in 2011 when he turned up as a a fresh-faced teenager fresh
01:14:20out of
01:14:21australia job done for agora he'll be happy there'll be plenty more to come he'll feel like there's time
01:14:28to find out there but his first and foremost his major task was to make sure that he got himself
01:14:34directly
01:14:35into q2 as he starts in his own special uh calm collected and reserved way explain what happened
01:14:44to him in those 31 laps here around the sax ring in fact that was a session high number of
01:14:52laps for
01:14:52he was busy out there this afternoon the only ride that did north of 30 laps in that 60 minute
01:14:57practice
01:14:58session yes crew chief giovanni matter although getting more words out of than you got out of him
01:15:03yesterday in the press conference yeah sometimes he can be a bit of a tough interview can i agree i
01:15:08have
01:15:08to say i do love him for it because he really does he does not care does he he's not
01:15:12here for the
01:15:14headlines he's not here for the fame he's not here for the attention he just loves racing motorcycles we love
01:15:21watching ayagura race motorcycles particularly uh when he brings the kind of form which carried him
01:15:26to that maiden victory in aston two weeks ago but mark marquez who else could he be that leads day
01:15:31one
01:15:31here at the saxon room went to form didn't it mark marquez fastest on day one in germany ralph fernandez
01:15:37keeping up his good recent run second for track house ahead of fabio jajan antonio alex marquez
01:15:41a fine for jack miller the performance of the day in fifth ensuring that yamaha represented in q2
01:15:46augura sixth ahead of betsecki and martin for the factory of fridia squad
01:15:49both on uh nearing up at 120 pedro acosta and frankie morbidelli also through although morbidelli
01:15:55has a trip to the stewards later on but for getting in the way of pedro acosta the costa is
01:16:00the sole ktm to advance the headline name missing the top 10 in q2 unquestionably is peko bagnaya in p30
01:16:08how much that one stays good himself inside that top 10 as he went early and found a 121.121
01:16:15can't miss it's been too many times at cal's lap the saxon ring faster than that so it was a
01:16:19hard
01:16:20front medium rear tire which marquez started that session on did a lot of good work there then he's
01:16:25sort of high to low 120s 121s his best work coming on fresh rubber at the start of his fifth
01:16:31run of the
01:16:31session a 119.394 ralph fernandez putting plenty of laps best part of two-thirds distance on a hard
01:16:38front tire also doing a lot of work on the soft rear in the early part of the session the
01:16:44software
01:16:44was also useful to him a brand new software late so got him into the mid 119s in a very
01:16:49comfortable
01:16:49second a pair of p3s today then on day one here in germany for fabio the gen antonio he did
01:16:55a lot of
01:16:56good work earlier on the half front a medium rear tire and he was as always lightning quick wasn't
01:17:02he on fresh rubber at the end of the session a whole bunch of 119s there from did you his
01:17:06best
01:17:06at 119.674 so he cruised into q2 and alex marquez also putting in a lot of hard work on
01:17:14the hard front
01:17:15tire putting plenty of laps on the medium rear too which might not be the race option for sunday the
01:17:19soft rear though had to be used to get him into q2 and he also got himself one of seven
01:17:24riders into the
01:17:25119s a tight and twisty trip through sector one saw acosta lead the way on the factory ktm head of
01:17:31banyan binder super close in the second sector with fabio jian antonio holding a narrow advantage
01:17:36track really opens out through sector three there's advantage agura ahead of fernandez and mark marquez
01:17:42mark marquez's total advantage over the lap is 0.166 of a second as you can see almost all of
01:17:47it in
01:17:48sector four well mana gp is back in germany and once again back on top of the standings
01:17:56at his beloved sax ring it is the reigning world champion mark marquez who this weekend is looking
01:18:03to make it 10 wins in mother gp around one of his favorite tracks on the calendar perfect start
01:18:09for the world champion he leads on day one here in the grand prix of germany
01:18:36the time for talking stocks the time for racing starts right here right now
01:18:42this is absolutely brilliant pure action pure drama pure entertainment
01:18:48moto gp mayhem dreams do come true
