00:00The Philippines is reaffirming a landmark international ruling that rejected China's
00:06sweeping claims in the South China Sea as the country marks the ruling's anniversary this
00:10weekend. Foreign Secretary Maria Teresa Lazzaro says the 2016 decision remains an unshakable
00:18permanent anchor of the rules-based international order. China, meanwhile, continues to reject the
00:24arbitration ruling calling it illegal. Lazzaro said Manila will keep lines of communication
00:31open with Beijing while using the ruling as the basis for negotiations on a South China Sea
00:36code of conduct between ASEAN and China. Beijing refused to take part in the case brought by the
00:43Philippines and has rejected the 2016 decision by a tribunal convened under the UN Convention on the
00:50Law of the Sea. China continues to claim most of the South China Sea despite the ruling. The disputed
00:56waterway is also claimed in part by Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan. Confrontations have become more
01:03frequent in recent years, particularly involving Chinese, Philippine and Vietnamese vessels.
