00:03Outspoken journalist-turned-politician Derren Hinch has died at the age of 82 after a long
00:09illness. The Outspoken broadcaster earned the nickname The Human Headline after his
00:15long-standing crusade to expose sex offenders landed him in jail for contempt of court multiple
00:21times. Hinch began his career in newspapers before moving into radio and making 3WA his
00:28on-air home. In the 1980s, he made the move to television. In 2016, he left the media to pursue
00:35politics, winning a seat in the Senate. He served a single term representing the Derren Hinch
00:41Justice Party before leaving politics in 2019. Former colleague Peter Ford announced the death
00:48to the 3WA audience by saying,
00:50It is one of those moments when you think that was an extraordinary life and career. A young guy in
00:56rural New Zealand who had dreams of getting into journalism and slowly but surely, boy,
01:02did he do that.
