00:01Three-time Grammy winner Didi Bridgewater is just one of the artists taking part in the newly revived Tabaka Jazz
00:09Festival in Tunisia.
00:15First launched in 1973, the festival is returning after a six-year hiatus.
00:25It's good to be back. It's lovely to have been invited to come back and take part in this festival.
00:35I'm really pleased that the festival has been revived this year because I heard it hadn't taken place for six
00:42years.
00:44So I'm very happy to be part of this new edition.
00:55The week-long event includes performances from international and Tunisian artists.
01:03Visitors coming to Tabaka for the festival can see performances in the open-air Théâtre de la Mer.
01:11Known as the Coral Coast, Tabaka is nestled between oak forests and Mediterranean beaches.
01:19It's a very, very good thing because we're bringing the Tabaka festival back to life.
01:26So we're reviving tourism across the whole region.
01:30The Tabaka area is very well known for this jazz festival.
01:34Over the years, the festival has expanded its program beyond jazz to include world and contemporary music,
01:42attracting a diverse audience from around the world.
01:46Free street jazz performances every evening also draw audiences and help boost local businesses.
01:55It brings life to the town. People come here and it really gets things moving for us economically.
02:01It gives us a bit of breathing space.
02:03We hope that from now on this festival will be held every year without fail.
02:09This year's festival wraps up on July 9th.
02:13But fans and locals are already looking forward to its return in 2027.
