Skies over Colombo burst with color as international kite festival soars once more

The skies above Sri Lanka’s capital were transformed into a vibrant tapestry of movement and color on Sunday as the Colombo International Kite Festival returned after a five-year hiatus, symbolizing a nation's hopeful turn towards normalcy and tourism.

00:00A multitude of kites in various shapes and sizes including elephants, leopards, pandas, birds and snakes
00:07filled the skies as the Colombo International Kite Festival commenced in Sri Lanka's capital on Sunday.
00:15Other kites showcased sunflowers, horses, fish and a range of comic characters including Pino Chiao.
00:23Sri Lanka for tourism was not that good if it take last couple of years due to different, different reasons.
00:30Political instability, the economic crisis and so on and so forth.
00:33But now I think Sri Lanka is fully back to normal so that tourists come and enjoy.
00:39Enthusiasts from 25 countries including Germany, the Netherlands, Malaysia and France
00:44joined some 500 kite flyers from Sri Lanka.
00:47Every country is a different kite festival and the land is different, the people are different
00:52and we prefer to go this side.
00:56We like also this side from the country, from the world to visit it
00:59and this is first the first time you're here and our experience is
01:03Sri Lanka is very high in a level now in the kite world.
01:08So we do our very best here and looking around, a lot of kite flyers also talking about it
01:15but it's a very good job.
01:16The event was organised by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau as part of destination branding
01:23for Sri Lanka's capital Colombo.
01:31Normally we have as a big family and different members come to different festivals.
01:36This time we've got 55 members come from 25 different countries
01:39but also to show our culture to Sri Lankan people and then hopefully they will...
01:46What's good about kiting, it's outdoor activities.
01:49Most people now stay inside and play with the computers
01:51but they need to be outside and just enjoy and harness a beautiful resource
01:55which is wind to decorate the sky.
01:58A number of top stunt kite artists captivated audiences with their precise aerobatic displays.
02:05The festival began in 2015 and had events until 2018 continuously
02:11but this is the first event since then.
