00:00Have a good look at the front of your sweatshirt.
00:02Okay, let's ignore the pizza stains for now.
00:05Ever notice that V-shape right at the bottom of the collar?
00:08That small V-patch isn't just a decoration, it serves more than one purpose.
00:12Made from a double layer of webbing material, just like waistbands and cuffs,
00:16these inserts allowed the wearer to put on the sweater without losing any shape over time.
00:21As the sweatshirt would be pulled down over the head,
00:24the V-insert would stretch and flex to allow a lot of wiggle room.
00:28The other benefit the V-pattern gives is to absorb all that sweat.
00:32The chest is a major area of perspiring.
00:35Just look at soaked shirts after doing something physical.
00:38Although the V-insert can only take so much.
00:42That extra pocket on the right side of a suit jacket is called the ticket pocket.
00:46They used to store coins for people on horseback to pay tollbooths without opening their jackets.
00:51When train travel became more popular, they were perfect for tickets and passes.
00:55As for the left chest pocket, it's used to store handkerchiefs,
00:59keeping them away from the other cluttered and dirty pockets.
01:03Metallic zippers have a hidden lock built in.
01:05Next time you've put on a pair of pants, shorts, or skirt,
01:08never leave the zipper handle in an upward position.
01:11Push the little zipper tab downwards, and it'll automatically lock.
01:15To mute your annoying beeping microwave, look closely at the front panel for a sound button.
01:21It may have been there all along, just begging to be pressed.
01:24If there's no button, try pressing and holding 1, 0, stop, or cancel.
01:29It will either result in turning off the beeping sounds or activating a lock feature.
01:34Of course, if your microwave doesn't have any mute function at all,
01:37you'll just have to keep running to stop the timer late at night.
01:41Nintendo Switch cartridges have a hidden safety function,
01:44and it's going to leave a bad taste in your mouth.
01:46Although non-toxic, denotonium benzoate coats the cartridge in a sour, peppery, and bitter substance
01:52to prevent kiddos from swallowing them.
01:55This chemical compound is one of the most bitter flavors known to humanity,
01:59commonly used to keep people from consuming things they're not meant to.
02:03There's not much privacy while using a public toilet,
02:06especially when the door doesn't reach the floor at all.
02:08But these gaps are there for emergency access,
02:11in case the person inside needs immediate help.
02:14The gap also works for ventilation, thank goodness,
02:17and to stop people from lingering around the toilet too long.
02:21Toothpicks have a built-in holder to prevent you from just leaving them on the table.
02:25Just break off the top, it's that simple.
02:27Place that on your table and your toothpick between the notches.
02:31Pointy end up, of course.
02:32Now, it won't touch the table and get all dirty.
02:35You can do the same with disposable chopsticks.
02:38Break off the top piece before you pull them apart.
02:41Those tiny dimples on golf balls actually give a greater lift to the ball
02:45and reduce air resistance, meaning the ball can go further with them.
02:49These dimples come in spherical and hexagonal shapes,
02:52with each slightest change affecting the ball's performance.
02:55So, choose them carefully.
02:57Plastic wrap boxes have hidden little holders
03:00that stop the roll from jumping out of the box.
03:02They're little cardboard tabs on the sides
03:05that lock into the tube inside
03:06while making it easy to glide the film out.
03:09Just push them in and never be frustrated again.
03:13Gosh, I wish that would work with other stuff.
03:15The seven spikes on top of the Statue of Liberty's crown
03:18don't represent the seven seas and the seven continents at all.
03:22They're representing the sun's rays,
03:24giving a halo to show that she is divine.
03:27In the United States,
03:2912 different Federal Reserve Banks print all the money.
03:32So, if you want to know where your money comes from,
03:35just look for these small codes.
03:36A1 Boston
03:38B2 New York
03:39C3 Philadelphia
03:40B4 Cleveland
03:42E5 Richmond
03:44F6 Atlanta
03:45G7 Chicago
03:47H8 St. Louis
03:48I9 Minneapolis
03:50J10 Kansas City
03:52K11 Big D Little A Double L A S
03:55It's a song
03:56L12 San Francisco
03:58Never call it Frisco.
04:00Meanwhile, the bristles on the side of every escalator
04:04are in place to encourage people to stay away from the edge,
04:07meaning they're less likely to face a mishap with a trapped bag or shoelace.
04:12Did you hear about the octopus caught on the escalator?
04:14It was a stretch.
04:16Old-fashioned pin cushions that are large tomato with a strawberry attached
04:19are more than a place for your needles.
04:21The strawberry contains an emery board.
04:24When you stick your pins and needles into the strawberry,
04:27the emery board keeps them rust-free and sharpens them as well.
04:31Some people still forget to engage the hose from their car after filling up with gas.
04:36Luckily, a lot of gas companies realize this,
04:38so if you happen to drive off with a hose still attached to your car,
04:42there's a magnetic connector that disengages when pulled.
04:45Those different colored bread tags use a color-coded system to show the day that they were baked.
04:50They are usually blue tags for Mondays, green tags for Tuesdays,
04:55red tags Thursdays, white tags Fridays, and yellow tags for Saturdays.
05:00On the back of most beauty products,
05:02you'll find a small symbol on the back that indicates how long it'll stay good for.
05:06For example, 2M means two months after opening.
05:10Some jackets have those extra flaps with a button on the shoulder,
05:14and they actually have a use.
05:16These are perfectly designed for holding your purse, backpack, or bag in place and secure.
05:21Pom-poms on the top of beanies were never just a fashion statement.
05:25They were for protection, placed on top of the headwear to protect sailors from
05:29accidentally hitting their heads while moving around on a ship.
05:33Pom-poms touch the roof, so don't go any higher.
05:36They don't appear on every type of measuring tape,
05:39but diamonds or black circles are there to help contractors measure the proper placement of studs in a wall.
05:46Those little holes on your baseball cap aren't some fashion trends that stuck around for years and have never been
05:52changed.
05:52These holes are actually called eyelets,
05:55and they're to keep your head well-ventilated, not for appearance.
05:58If you have YKK printed on your zipper,
06:01they're not some secret code to be cracked.
06:04Those three letters appear on so many zippers globally
06:06because they're the symbol of the world's most universal zipper manufacturer,
06:11the YKK Group.
06:13Every can of soda comes with a tab for easy opening of the tasty beverage,
06:17and every single one of them has a relatively large hole in the top.
06:21While it can make it easier to get your finger under the tab to get your soda,
06:25its intended purpose is a straw holder.
06:28Spin the tab over the opening and place your straw through it to secure it in.
06:33Disposable lids do a great job of keeping your drink inside the cup,
06:36but that's not its only purpose.
06:38When you're ready to sip on your drink,
06:40the lid has specially designed ridges to double it as a coaster
06:43and hold on to the bottom of your beverage tightly.
06:46The tiny black dot between the lens and the flash on the back of your iPhone
06:51is actually for a great purpose.
06:53It's the third microphone to provide superior sound quality
06:56by eliminating background noises
06:58and to pick up your voice much clearer in a crowded environment.
07:02Gas cans that have two holes with caps
07:05aren't there to fill different-sized equipment.
07:07The second hole is meant to be uncapped
07:10before you pour your gas to prevent that glugging effect.
07:13By allowing more airflow through,
07:15the smoother the gas will pour out.
07:17That little arrow next to the gas symbol on your car's dashboard
07:21shows you which side your gas tank is on.
07:24It'll help you when you go fill up your gas tank,
07:26especially if you're borrowing a different car than your own.
07:30Look at a check and see MP near the signature line.
07:34That means the check printer used micro print
07:36as one of the check security features.
07:38The lines look like a regular line to the untrained eye,
07:42but they're words like the bank's name,
07:44authorized signature,
07:45United States government,
07:46or even original document.
07:49That little disc that's underneath bottles
07:51isn't just a leftover part of the production process.
07:54It creates an even tighter seal with the lid.
07:57So even if the bottle was turned upside down,
08:00the liquid doesn't leak out everywhere.
08:02The plastic disc keeps carbonated sodas
08:04carbonated for longer with this seal.
08:06The indent in the bottom of wine bottles is called a punt.
08:10But it's not just something to help you hold on to the bottle.
08:14The punt makes the wine bottle stronger,
08:16so if dropped,
08:17the cork won't fly across the room with all that pressure.
08:21So grab your phone.
08:23Good, now turn it around.
08:25You see that little dot between the camera and the flash?
08:28That's a tiny microphone.
08:30Bet that's something you didn't know.
08:32What's it doing there?
08:33Well, when you're on a phone call,
08:35this little guy is busy at work,
08:37reducing the amount of background noise
08:39other people hear when you talk.
08:41That's right.
08:42If it wasn't for this,
08:44calls wouldn't be as nearly as crisp as they are now.
08:48You're lost in the woods,
08:49and you're rushing to get back to camp.
08:52You suddenly remember you've got something that can help.
08:55You grab one of your chest straps from your backpack
08:58and whistle on it.
09:00Yup, that's right.
09:02A lot of bags have this feature in them,
09:04especially the ones made for the outdoors.
09:07It isn't long before you hear the call of one of your friends,
09:10and you follow them back to the warm campfire,
09:13saved by this cool bit of design.
09:16If you're a curious person,
09:18you might have wondered
09:19what that little pocket in your jeans is doing there.
09:22You know, the one that's inside the bigger pocket?
09:25People often use it to store coins and bills,
09:28but it's not meant for that.
09:30It's actually designed to store your pocket watch safely.
09:33Huh?
09:34Maybe that's where the name pocket watch comes from?
09:39You finally arrive home after a long day's work.
09:42You understandably don't feel like cooking,
09:45so you sit on the couch and watch a bit of TV
09:48and order some takeout.
09:49How about Chinese?
09:51Ah, perfect.
09:52There's the doorbell.
09:54That has to be your food!
09:55It smells delicious!
09:57Wait!
09:58Before you grab the plates, do this instead.
10:00Open your Chinese food container on the table.
10:03It becomes the perfect plate,
10:05and it's cardboard,
10:07which means no cleaning either.
10:10That can of soda you got with your food
10:12has a cool feature too.
10:14Look at the tiny metal tab there,
10:17the one you use to open the can.
10:19Guess what?
10:19You can fit your straw in there.
10:21In fact, that's exactly what they're made for.
10:24Go ahead, try it for yourself.
10:27If you're not at your computer,
10:29take a look at your keyboard right now.
10:31If you're not, that's okay.
10:33Here's one on the screen.
10:34The keycaps are arranged in what's called the QWERTY layout,
10:38named after the first six keycaps below the numbers.
10:42As it turns out, it wasn't always this way.
10:44They used to be laid out alphabetically,
10:47which would make more sense when you think about it.
10:49The alphabetical layout fell out of use
10:52because long ago, there were things called typewriters.
10:55Remember those?
10:57You pressed down a key,
10:59and a type bar would fly out,
11:01hitting an inked ribbon and stamping a letter on the piece of paper.
11:05Eventually, typists got good at this and typed faster.
11:09Too fast.
11:10The typebars would eventually get caught in a log jam with each other,
11:14ruining the flow.
11:14To fix this problem,
11:16they made keyboards with randomized keycaps.
11:19The new layout actually worked better
11:21because it made typing harder,
11:23helping to slow typists down
11:25and prevent the typebars from getting stuck.
11:27Much better!
11:28Today, no typebars.
11:30No typewriters, mostly.
11:32People are still fast nowadays,
11:34but you just can't help but wonder who was faster though.
11:37Us or them?
11:39Keyboards have another hidden feature too.
11:42Have you ever noticed that the F keycap and the J keycap
11:45have little bumps on the bottom of them?
11:47As it turns out,
11:48they're there to help people figure out where they are on the keyboard
11:51without having to take their eyes off the screen.
11:56Grabbing a takeaway cup of coffee at your favorite cafe
11:58might be just what you need to fully wake up in the mornings.
12:02When you get back home or to work though,
12:05you might be afraid to stain your desk
12:07when you put the steaming hot coffee down.
12:10Worry not, your plastic lid isn't only good for keeping your coffee hot,
12:14it also doubles as a coaster.
12:16In fact, they're the perfect size to hold a cup.
12:19Try it for yourself.
12:22This one's going to come in handy if you're a home cook.
12:25If you're like me,
12:26you might have a bit of trouble deciding
12:28how much pasta you need for just one serving.
12:31Well, if you've got a pasta scoop, grab that.
12:34Most people don't know what the little hole in the middle is for
12:38and assume it's supposed to help with water drainage or something.
12:41It turns out that it helps you measure out a perfect serving.
12:45Just see how much dry spaghetti you can fit in the hole
12:48and use that as one portion.
12:52Out of the store buying coat hangers,
12:54you might notice that the plastic ones feel cheaper than the wooden ones.
12:58There's a good reason for this.
13:00Wooden hangers are made out of cedar wood.
13:02The big difference between the two
13:05is that the wooden ones repel bugs and moths.
13:09They're stronger and last longer too,
13:11perfect for things that might stay in your closet for a long time.
13:16When you brush your teeth,
13:17you might have noticed that your toothbrush has blue bristles.
13:21They're not just there for show.
13:22In fact, they're there to tell you
13:25when it might be time to switch toothbrushes.
13:27These bristles lose their strength and color
13:30when the brush has been worn down,
13:32letting you know that it's time to get rid of it.
13:36Microwaves often look a bit like mini TVs,
13:39especially ones where you can clearly see the black film around them.
13:43This is actually a really important feature
13:45that's used to keep the radiation from slipping away.
13:49They're called Faraday cages, if you want to get technical.
13:52This is why you can stand next to a microwave
13:55without melting into a puddle.
13:58That's not to say you should stand in front of the microwave
14:01and watch your food heat up,
14:02but at least you know you won't grow an extra ear or something.
14:06Okay, not really.
14:08Some ovens have a drawer under them.
14:10It's tempting to use this to store random junk you don't use often,
14:14but there's a better use for it.
14:16Instead, this should be used to help keep the food
14:18that's waiting to be served hot.
14:20You can take it out of the oven and store it right in this drawer,
14:24keeping your oven free for you to carry on cooking.
14:28Now, you're on a plane looking around
14:30trying to pass the time before takeoff.
14:33When you examine the window,
14:34you notice this has a little, very tiny hole on its bottom.
14:38Don't worry, it's not broken.
14:41It's there to relieve the pressure that builds up over time
14:44as the plane goes up and down.
14:46It also lets the air flow through it.
14:49Now, raise your hand if you've ever ridden on an escalator
14:52and scrubbed your shoes on its bristles.
14:54Hey, I'm guilty of doing that.
14:56Maybe more than I should.
14:57It's not there to clean your shoes, though.
14:59It's an important safety measure.
15:01It stops your shoelaces, clothing, and other stuff
15:04from getting stuck in there,
15:05avoiding a nasty scene when you go to get off.
15:10Sometimes a piece of fabric comes with your new clothing.
15:13It usually comes along with the extra buttons
15:15in a little plastic bag.
15:17You might think it's just a piece of fabric
15:20to use for future patching, in case you rip it.
15:22But that isn't its purpose at all.
15:25It's actually supposed to be put in the washing machine
15:28to test how it reacts to various washings.
15:30Now, you don't have to worry about shrinking
15:33your new, expensive coat
15:34because you know how it'll react to the wash.
15:38Bubbles!
15:38Who doesn't love bubbles?
15:40Most people have fond memories with bubble blowers as a kid.
15:43But as adults, the closest thing we can get
15:46to recapturing that feeling is with bubble baths.
15:49After a hard day at work,
15:51there's nothing better than dipping into a nice, warm bubble bath.
15:54Right, guys?
15:55And the bubbles do more than just clean you.
15:58If they're high-quality bubbles,
16:00they'll serve as a heat insulator.
16:02So they make sure that your bath stays warm for longer.
16:07Boxes of chocolate sometimes have these mysterious holes in them.
16:11When I'm eating a box, or two,
16:13I usually ignore them and take out the chocolate
16:15by pressing the bottom of the plastic.
16:18But it turns out that I've been doing it wrong the whole time.
16:22If you press one of the holes, the chocolate comes right out.
16:26I'm certainly going to start doing this from now on.
16:30Here's another one from the kitchen.
16:32The handle on a pot will often have a hole in it.
16:36Most people use this to hang them on a nail on the wall
16:39as an easy storage method.
16:41The hole has another use, too.
16:43When you're cooking, you can use this handle
16:45to hold your wooden spoon or whatever else you might be cooking with.
16:49This makes sure you don't make a mess when you put it down.
16:54Glass bottles usually come with a cap in them.
16:57Well, duh!
16:58Otherwise, the liquid would just spill.
17:00In this cap, there's a plastic liner
17:02that seemingly has no purpose, right?
17:05Wrong.
17:06It's a seal!
17:09No, not a seal!
17:10A seal!
17:11It's the kind that helps keep your drink fizzy.
17:14Ah, just the refreshment I needed.
17:17A lot of doorknobs are made out of brass,
17:20and it's not by chance.
17:21They're made out of this specific material
17:23because it's bacteria's worst enemy.
17:26That's right, it destroys them.
17:28Perfect for those who want to keep a clean house
17:31and avoid germs.
17:32Hey, you want a fish?
17:36Now, here's a trick.
17:38Instead of putting the box grater vertically on top of a plate,
17:41put it horizontally, with no plate underneath, of course.
17:44This way, you won't risk scraping your knuckles
17:47because only your fingertips will eventually touch the grater
17:50when you reach the end of the process.
17:52Also, it gives the grater more stability,
17:54when otherwise, you'd have to balance the grater
17:56or even hold it in the air with the other hand.
17:59When you're done,
18:00or when there's just too much grated stuff
18:02on the bottom wall of the grater,
18:04simply turn it on its side
18:05to pour the contents into the bowl or plate.
18:09Flowers in a vase would stay fresher for longer
18:11if not for the bacteria that breed in the water.
18:14Since copper has some antibacterial properties,
18:17dropping a penny into the water
18:19will help keep the microbes at bay
18:21and let you enjoy your flowers for that little bit longer.
18:24An easy way to check if your bed linen has dried completely
18:28is to put a small mirror in between the layers
18:30for about 5 minutes.
18:32If the mirror has steamed up when you pick it up,
18:34it means the sheets are still a bit damp.
18:37Let them dry until the mirror stops getting cloudy.
18:39A damp bed is a lovely breeding ground
18:42for fungi and bacteria.
18:45Okay, I'm in.
18:46If you have a not-very-healthy habit
18:49of eating in front of your computer,
18:51you'll be surprised at how much crumbs and grime
18:54there is inside your keyboard.
18:56Now, you can just turn it over
18:58and shake it vigorously, of course,
19:00but that's not very good for any piece of tech, you know.
19:03So instead, take a post-it note
19:06and run its sticky part over the keyboard.
19:08It will collect the little pieces of trash like magic.
19:11Even a better way to do it, though,
19:13is to take a slime and stick it to the keyboard,
19:16then take it away, squeeze it,
19:18and stick again in another part.
19:20The slime will fill the entire space between the keys,
19:23and its sticky properties will let it gather
19:25every little bit of garbage.
19:28Separating egg yolks from whites
19:29is easier using a plastic bottle.
19:32Break the necessary number of eggs into a bowl,
19:35and then take an empty plastic bottle
19:36and squeeze it.
19:38Hold the bottle over the yolk and release.
19:40It'll pull in air and the yolk together,
19:43leaving the white in the bowl.
19:45Repeat with the rest of the yolks,
19:46and you're done!
19:47And that's no yolk!
19:50If you're tired of spitting out the stones
19:52when eating cherries,
19:53or want to make a cherry pie,
19:55push the stones out with a straw.
19:57Also, many garlic presses
19:59have a special tool on their handle
20:01that can be used exactly for that.
20:04Cleaning a blender can be a nuisance
20:06if you do it manually.
20:07Instead, fill it with hot water
20:09and add some liquid soap or detergent,
20:11then run it for about 10 seconds.
20:13Rinse it afterwards, and it's clean.
20:16Plaster walls can crumble, flake,
20:18and spread dust all over the floor
20:20when you hammer nails into it.
20:21Cut a strip of masking tape
20:23and stick it to the place
20:25you want to hammer a nail in.
20:26The tape won't let the plaster crack and crumble,
20:29leaving the hole neat and clean.
20:31Small scratches and dents on wooden furniture
20:34can be removed with some toothpaste
20:36or a walnut.
20:38For toothpaste,
20:39rub a pea-sized amount of it
20:41into the scratch until it's gone,
20:42then wipe the leftovers with a damp cloth.
20:45For a walnut,
20:47take a half of that brain-shaped nut
20:49and rub it into the dent.
20:50Then rub the area with your fingers
20:52and buff it with a soft cloth.
20:54This'll help the wood absorb the oil from the nut,
20:57making the scratch sealed and gone.
21:00The sticky residue on jars
21:02left after you remove the stickers
21:03won't be easily removed by water and detergent.
21:06So, take some vegetable oil instead.
21:09Soak a cotton pad in it
21:11and wipe the sticky surface.
21:12Let it sit for a while
21:14and then wash the oil away
21:15together with the residue.
21:17If you can't comfortably
21:19reach the wick of a candle with a lighter,
21:21hey, take a stick of spaghetti.
21:23Light up its end,
21:24and you'll get a burning stick
21:26that's easy to use
21:27for hard-to-reach places.
21:29Now, next time your razor blade's getting dull,
21:32try rubbing it backwards
21:33on a pair of jeans for regular upkeep.
21:36Not while you're wearing them, of course.
21:38Make sure you keep the blades dry, too,
21:40or even kept in mineral oil.
21:42That'll stop them from rusting.
21:44Keep all those jelly, ketchup,
21:46peanut butter, and mayo
21:47fresher for longer in your fridge
21:49by turning the contents upside down.
21:52This creates a partial vacuum
21:54inside the container,
21:55helping prevent mold growth.
21:57Storing ice cream upside down
21:59will prevent freezer burn, too.
22:01To bring your permanent marker
22:03back to life,
22:04simply put a few drops
22:05of rubbing alcohol
22:06into the felt material
22:07inside and shake.
22:09Once the felt absorbs
22:10the rubbing alcohol
22:11for a couple of minutes,
22:13the marker will be
22:14almost as good as new.
22:16Now, don't keep throwing away
22:17lettuce that goes black
22:19too quickly.
22:20Covering it with a dry paper towel
22:21and then placing it
22:23in an airtight container
22:24will help it keep fresher
22:25for much longer.
22:26This goes for any leafy greens
22:28you've got leftovers of.
22:30That sharpish bit
22:32sticking out of the cap
22:33of your favorite cream
22:34is there for a reason.
22:36These tubes are usually
22:37sealed with foil,
22:38so unless you love
22:39breaking your nails
22:40trying to open them,
22:41just flip the cap over
22:42and push.
22:44Your bobby pins
22:45might not stay in place
22:46if the grooves
22:47aren't facing the right way.
22:49They should always be
22:50on the bottom,
22:51close to your head.
22:52Still coming loose?
22:53Well, put a squeeze
22:54of hairspray
22:55right onto the bobby pin
22:56before you put it
22:57in your hair.
22:58Now, your Cotton Rounds pack
23:00has those strings on it,
23:01so you can hang it
23:02on a handy hook
23:03in the bathroom.
23:04But there's no need
23:05to loosen and tighten
23:06it back up every time.
23:08Check out the bottom
23:09of the pack.
23:10It has a perforated line.
23:12Tear it open carefully,
23:13and you're good to go.
23:15Two zips too much?
23:17Maybe.
23:18But they come in handy
23:19as a clever anti-theft device.
23:21Just lock them together.
23:22Now, no one can open
23:24your backpack.
23:25Don't have a lock on you?
23:26You can also tie them together
23:28with some string,
23:29or even just a paper clip.
23:31Anything to slow
23:32those pickpockets down.
23:34That tiny little button
23:35on the back of a shirt collar
23:36is used to hold
23:37your tie in place.
23:39Hey, you don't want your tie
23:40trying to escape back there.
23:43Shoe manufacturers
23:44care about their customers,
23:45so most running shoes
23:47now have a special
23:48anti-blister system
23:49pre-installed.
23:51Sounds intense,
23:52but it's basically
23:53just that extra hole
23:54on top of your sneakers.
23:55Make a loop
23:56with the extra hole,
23:57inserting the lace backward.
23:59Cross your laces
24:00and put them
24:01through the loops.
24:01Now, pull the laces down
24:03to lock your foot in place.
24:05Now, run.
24:06Yeah, go ahead.
24:08Car headrests
24:09are all about comfort,
24:10and detachable headrests
24:11are all about safety.
24:13If you pull the headrest out,
24:15you'll see two sturdy metal bars.
24:17If you ever get locked
24:18or trapped in your car,
24:20you can use the bars
24:21to smash the window
24:22and get out.
24:24If you've got some
24:25pesky parsley
24:26stuck in your teeth,
24:27try this tip.
24:28It can be hard
24:29to get it out
24:29with loose floss.
24:30You need more tension,
24:32so just tie it in a knot.
24:34It's not an accident
24:36that soy sauce bottles
24:37have two spouts.
24:38The sauce is liquid
24:39and it flows out of the bottle
24:41pretty easily
24:42once you turn it over.
24:43Most Asian food lovers
24:44have spilled it
24:45at least once in a lifetime.
24:47That's why nowadays,
24:48restaurants prefer
24:49serving soy sauce
24:50in special bottles
24:51that have two spouts.
24:53This design allows you
24:54to control
24:55when and how much
24:56sauce will come out.
24:57Just put your finger
24:58on one spout
24:59when you pour the sauce
25:00through another.
25:01If you press your finger
25:03tightly to the spout,
25:04the sauce will stop flowing
25:05and if you remove
25:07your finger,
25:07it'll flow again.
25:09And don't forget
25:10to ask your server,
25:11Hey, wasabi!
25:13Alright.
25:13A hair straightener
25:15is an excellent tool
25:16not only for treating
25:17your natural curls,
25:18but also for fixing
25:19crumpled money
25:20or documents.
25:21You can also use
25:22a regular iron
25:23for this purpose.
25:24Just make sure
25:25you don't turn on
25:26steaming mode.
25:27Otherwise,
25:28there's a risk
25:28of damaging the paper.
25:30Hair bands are good
25:31not only for getting
25:32your hair done,
25:33but also to open
25:34a glass jar
25:35with canned food.
25:36Your hands might slip
25:37on the tightly closed lid
25:39and if you don't open
25:40the can from the first attempt,
25:42your palms tend to get sweaty,
25:44making the task
25:45virtually impossible.
25:46So, put a hair band
25:48on the lid
25:48to fix your hand
25:50and make your grasp stronger.
25:52A simple rubber band
25:53will do as well.
25:54Now, it's time
25:55to take my sweaty palms
25:57and go.
25:58Now, don't blame
25:59that little lump
26:00on your computer cable
26:01for getting stuck somewhere
26:03for the umpteenth time.
26:05The cylinder,
26:06shapes and colors
26:07may vary,
26:08actually prevents
26:09interference
26:09from other signals,
26:11like those
26:11your phone emits.
26:13A lack of privacy
26:14in public bathrooms,
26:16I mean those large gaps
26:17beneath where
26:18normal doors tend to be,
26:20is there for a reason.
26:21This way,
26:22people do their business
26:23faster
26:24and there are fewer lines.
26:26Also,
26:27if something goes wrong,
26:28it's easy to find
26:29a person who needs help.
26:31In London,
26:32there are some poles
26:33that kind of look
26:34like street lamps,
26:35but there are no bulbs.
26:37Well,
26:37their official name
26:38is stink pipes,
26:40and they're a thing
26:40of the past now,
26:42but they used to come
26:42in handy back
26:43in the 19th century.
26:45These hollow poles
26:46would vent away
26:47the air
26:47and explosive gases
26:49with bad smells
26:50to prevent,
26:51shall we say,
26:52unwanted consequences.
26:55Blank pages
26:56in the books
26:57aren't actually
26:57for the author's signature.
26:59It's all about
27:00the manufacturing process.
27:02Books are printed
27:03on large sheets,
27:04so one sheet
27:05can fit in four pages.
27:07If a book has
27:08an odd quantity
27:09of printed pages,
27:10chances are
27:11you'll get a blank one
27:12for notes.
27:13Now,
27:14originally,
27:15golf balls were smooth,
27:16but some time ago,
27:18players noticed
27:19that overused balls
27:20with damages
27:21flew better
27:22than brand new ones.
27:23At some point,
27:24they started producing
27:25balls with dimples.
27:28Windshield black dots
27:29help disperse the sun
27:31glaring right into your eyes.
27:32This sort of frame
27:33keeps the UV rays away,
27:35so it serves as sunglasses
27:37for your car.
27:39The tab on the rearview mirror
27:41has obvious functions.
27:42It holds your air freshener,
27:44that cute toy.
27:45But in reality,
27:47it was meant to be a tumbler
27:48between day and night mode.
27:50It reduces the glare
27:51from the car behind you,
27:53so you can't be blinded.
27:55Colored dots on chip bags
27:57aren't as useful
27:58as those on the windshield,
27:59but they have a purpose too.
28:02Manufacturers need them
28:03to control the package color
28:05and show what ink color
28:06was used on the package.
28:07No big deal.
28:09Your microwave
28:10has a silent mode.
28:11Seriously.
28:12If those beeps
28:14drive you nuts,
28:15press 1 or 0
28:16and hold.
28:17It might work.
28:18Also,
28:19there is sometimes
28:20a silent button
28:21you kept ignoring
28:22all this time.
28:23Anyway,
28:24there are no
28:25two identical microwaves,
28:27so a manual
28:28should come in handy.
28:30Grocery cart loops
28:31have more functions
28:32than you think.
28:33You don't want to put
28:34your fancy white jacket
28:36in a cart
28:36next to carrots and coke.
28:38This little hook-like thingy
28:40helps organize
28:41all the stuff
28:42in your cart better,
28:43so you can enjoy
28:44your shopping trip.
28:46Another thingy
28:47we often neglect
28:48is a point
28:49on an ointment cap.
28:51Most tubes
28:52are usually sealed
28:53with plastic film
28:54or foil,
28:55and opening it
28:56with your fingernails
28:57isn't the best idea.
28:59A point easily opens
29:00even the most
29:01safely sealed tube.
29:04Automatic lip liners
29:05and eye pencils
29:06have a sharpener
29:07installed in the package.
29:09The lid on the back
29:10part of the pencil
29:11doesn't only reveal
29:12the color.
29:13You can pull it out
29:14and sharpen up
29:15the product.
29:16Toothpicks come
29:17in different varieties,
29:19and one of them
29:19is a bit puzzling.
29:21Sometimes,
29:22they have several grooves.
29:23The first one is weak,
29:25so it's easy
29:26to break the toothpick
29:27in two.
29:27The smaller section
29:29with one more groove
29:30can be used
29:31as a stand
29:32to avoid the contact
29:33with the table.
29:34You can make
29:35a makeshift stand
29:36for disposable chopsticks.
29:38They have a sort of lump
29:40at one side
29:41before you split the pair.
29:43So, next time
29:44you have a sushi dinner,
29:45try breaking off
29:46that lump
29:47instead of regular splitting.
29:48When you want
29:49to take a sushi break,
29:51just place the stick
29:52on this stand.
29:54Yeah,
29:55you've heard before
29:55that a drawer
29:56beneath your oven
29:57is there for keeping
29:58the food warm
29:59if the guests
30:00are running late.
30:01Here's one more
30:02hidden function.
30:03You can slow cook
30:04on lower temperatures
30:05in that drawer, too.
30:07All the bottles
30:09used to be
30:09of the same green color
30:10once.
30:11But later,
30:12it was discovered
30:13that brown ones
30:14are way better
30:15at blocking UV light.
30:16Say no more.
30:19Stickers on fruit
30:20seem to provide
30:21zero information
30:22about the product.
30:23But if you look closer,
30:25you'll find some numbers
30:26that can tell you more.
30:28A five-digit number
30:29where the first number
30:30is nine
30:31is a good sign.
30:32You're about to buy
30:33an organic product.
30:35A four-digit number
30:37starting with a three
30:38or four
30:38means it was
30:39conventionally farmed.
30:41And if the number
30:42starts with an eight
30:43and there are five digits,
30:45well,
30:45it's best to leave it
30:46on the shelf.
30:48A dollar
30:49has its secrets, too.
30:50A large letter
30:52with a rim
30:52shows which bank
30:54is responsible
30:55for issuing this bill.
30:56There are 12 banks
30:58distributing currency.
30:59For example,
31:00the L
31:01says it was printed
31:02in San Francisco.
31:04Now,
31:05some cups
31:05look like they're
31:06chipped on the bottom,
31:07but they're produced
31:08this way.
31:09In fact,
31:10these dimples
31:10are supposed to keep
31:11the cup in place
31:12on wet surfaces,
31:13and it doesn't let
31:14excess water accumulate
31:15while it's in a dishwasher.
31:18Small hollows
31:19in a chocolate box
31:20are designed
31:21for chocolate lovers.
31:22Press the closest
31:23deepening to the chocolate
31:24that you want to grab,
31:26and it'll jump out
31:27of the box
31:27right into your hand.
31:29Bath foam
31:30can be more
31:31than just a pleasant smell.
31:33It also has
31:34a sort of
31:35thermoregulatory function.
31:37The bubbles
31:38save water heat,
31:39so you can enjoy
31:40your bath
31:40a little longer.
31:42Disclaimer,
31:43it works for
31:43acrylic bathtubs only.
31:45Those made of metal
31:46lose heat fast,
31:48no matter how much
31:49foam you make.
31:51A good doorknob
31:52is one that's made
31:53of brass,
31:54bronze,
31:55or some copper alloys.
31:56These metals
31:57have an anti-germ effect.
31:59Bacteria spread
32:00way slower on them.
32:02They also get rid
32:03of germs pretty fast,
32:04within a couple of hours.
32:06No,
32:06it doesn't mean
32:07you don't have
32:08to wash your hands.
32:10If you pour milk
32:12or juice
32:12right onto your t-shirt
32:14every single time,
32:15you're probably
32:15not doing it right.
32:17Try pouring it
32:18from the other side
32:19of the carton.
32:20It sloshes less
32:21and is easier
32:22to control.
32:23There's only
32:24one way
32:25you can store
32:26your peanut butter right.
32:28If you place it
32:29the regular way,
32:30it may get a bit
32:31solid before long.
32:32The trick
32:33is to store it
32:34upside down
32:35so the oils
32:36don't stay on the bottom
32:37all the time
32:38and distribute evenly.
32:40A dinner jacket
32:41has small pockets
32:43above regular ones,
32:44and they're not useless.
32:46They're called
32:47ticket pockets,
32:48and were designed
32:49so that gentlemen
32:49wearing such jackets
32:51could easily access
32:52the tickets
32:53and show them
32:54on a train.
32:55They could also
32:55store cash
32:56and other small,
32:57loose items
32:58in a super convenient way.
33:00Now,
33:01whatever coffee shop
33:02you go to,
33:03all the disposable cups
33:04look exactly the same,
33:06only the logo changes.
33:08The secret here
33:09is the special shape
33:11that allows you
33:12to enjoy your drink
33:13easily.
33:14The top
33:14is always wider,
33:16which allows it
33:16to accommodate
33:17your nose
33:18while you're drinking,
33:19and the bottom
33:20is always narrower,
33:21so that anyone
33:22can hold it easier,
33:23even if the hand
33:24is quite small.
33:26This width difference
33:27also allows
33:28the cups to stack.
33:30Triangular flaps
33:32on small juice cartons
33:33can help control
33:34unwanted spillage.
33:35If you flip them
33:37and use them
33:37as handles
33:38for the carton,
33:39you won't press
33:39the package
33:40so the juice
33:41won't be squeezed
33:42uncontrollably.
33:44Now,
33:45if you have a mason jar
33:46and a blender
33:46with a screw on top,
33:48this secret
33:48is life-changing.
33:50You can actually
33:51put a mason jar
33:52directly onto the blender
33:54and make any shake
33:55you want
33:56without having
33:57to wash
33:57the blender jar.
33:58Just don't put
33:59your device on Max.
34:02There's one trick
34:03you can use
34:03to make salt
34:04and pepper
34:05come out smoothly.
34:06Grab a container
34:07with pepper
34:08or salt,
34:08turn it upside down.
34:10There are ridges
34:11on the bottom
34:12of the shaker.
34:12Now,
34:13grab the second container
34:14and rub those ridges
34:16together.
34:16The vibrations
34:17will make the product
34:18literally flow out.
34:21Most headphones,
34:22both wired
34:23and wireless,
34:24have little holes.
34:25They're needed
34:26to ensure good sound.
34:28The air circulates
34:29through those holes,
34:30which is important
34:31for the sound quality.
34:33Stick sachets
34:34were designed smartly.
34:36No need to tear
34:37one of its edges.
34:38The right way
34:39is to tear them
34:40down the middle.
34:41Now,
34:42you may say
34:42it's not a big difference,
34:44but at least
34:44there's less mess
34:45with those torn paper bits.
34:48If two zips
34:49for one section
34:50seem a bit
34:51too much for you,
34:52it's probably time
34:53you started
34:54using them wisely.
34:55It's a great
34:56pickpocket proof.
34:57You can put on
34:58a small lock
34:59on those zippers
35:00and make sure
35:00no one but you
35:01can open your backpack.
35:03Hide the key
35:04in the fifth pocket
35:05on your jeans
35:06that was originally
35:07designed to keep
35:08watches safe.
35:09So,
