00:12It's a fact.
00:14Animals die and somebody's got to clean up the mess.
00:17That somebody is Mr. Vulture,
00:19also known as the scavenger or the cleaner.
00:23There are a variety of vulture species,
00:26but the biggest vultures are the lappet-faced vulture in Africa,
00:30and the Andean vulture in South America,
00:32each with wingspans from 9 to 10 1⁄2 feet wide,
00:36which make for a beautiful chorus line.
00:38These vultures can live in the wild for up to 40 years,
00:42but with a female laying just a single egg each year after mating,
00:46she can become very protective of her lone chick.
00:53Despite their gruesome appearance and rather grisly job,
00:57the vulture performs a valuable service for the planet,
01:00and they will often range long distances from their nesting sites
01:03in search of one thing.
