00:08Will the recent discovery of a flash-frozen Ice Age mammal solve a nagging scientific mystery?
00:14We've got mass!
00:16Joining us in the studio are two chief science officers from the International Arctic Exploration Expedition
00:21that has uncovered what may be long-awaited proof that a legendary animal actually roamed the frigid wastes of antiquity.
00:30Dr. Bradley Stone and Dr. Owen O'Toole, this is quite exciting. What have we got here?
00:34Oh, we're really excited. This is a creature that, for the longest time, had been only in myths, and it's
00:40known as Scrat.
00:41It was discovered using spectrographic satellite imagery.
00:44We look at anomalies deep down in the ice, and bingo!
00:48It appears that this specimen had been instantaneously frozen well over a million years ago,
00:53perhaps in an avalanche or some other, uh, geophysical disturbance.
00:57This is what we think Scrat looks like based on skeletal scans in the ice block.
01:02So what is it?
01:03It's been a matter of debate in scientific circles for a while now.
01:06There are many stories that date back to prehistoric times about Scrat.
01:10And also, the word Scrat was found rubbed out of an ancient Hebrew text,
01:15so we're pretty sure this, uh, little fella really did exist.
01:19Let's go to the phones.
01:20Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. You're on the air.
01:22Is it a squirrel, or is it a rat?
01:24That's a good question.
01:25Joining us from the Darwin Zoological Project in the Galapagos Islands is Dr. Morton Metz.
01:30Dr. Metz, squirrel or rat?
01:32Based on analysis of the digital radar scan,
01:34we're looking at the evolutionary precursor of the common ground squirrel.
01:39With all due respect to my esteemed colleague, I beg to differ.
01:42From Moscow's Institute of Animal Archaeology, Dr. Irina Bolshoig.
01:46The latest speculative algorithm programs indicate that the Scrat is the forefather of the rat.
01:53We have a lot of competing notions here,
01:54but I understand there is a glitch that may keep us from learning the truth about Scrat.
01:59Yes, unfortunately, Mark, there was an unexpected development
02:01when we tried to take the acorn out of Scrat's paw.
02:06Oh!
02:07The, uh, specimen reanimated.
02:10It came back to life and escaped?
02:14We think he's headed straight towards civilization.
02:17So what advice do you have for anyone who might come across Scrat?
02:22Safeguard your nuts.
02:24Scrat, an Ice Age survivor, now at large in the modern world.
02:29Clearly, the story is far from over.
02:31And it plays through the academy that lets you seetman there with them there.
02:36If you don't let risk travel, then you will be taken over and to your head.
02:37So test in your earth it's a very nice oneì—” stick.
