00:12The Smilodon, or saber-toothed cat, sometimes called the saber-toothed tiger, was known
00:17to roam the area of California in North America and Argentina in South America during the
00:22late Plasticine period nearly 11,000 years ago.
00:25The saber-toothed tiger was about the size of today's African lions, with a short tail
00:31similar to the modern bobcat.
00:33With its strong, muscular shoulders and neck, it would mostly feed on slow-moving, large
00:38prey in which it would sink its large teeth into.
00:41But the occasional light snack, like a possum, was not out of the question.
00:45See that?
00:46That's the total opposite of nice.
00:48The saber's huge, fang-like pair of teeth on the upper jaw were serrated like a meat-cutting
00:53knife on their back edges, allowing the cat to easily cut into its prey's hide and flesh.
00:58But despite fierce appearances, the saber was a little kitty when it came to water.
01:05Water?
01:05Water!
01:06Ah!
01:07Some paleontologists theorize the saber-toothed tigers were very social animals, living and
01:12hunting in packs, and throwing out wisecracks.
01:16If anyone asks, there were 50 of them, and, uh, they were rattlesnakes.
