00:02but do you actually know what it is?
00:04While there are lots of variations of this recipe out there,
00:07the most common is just two ingredients,
00:10country ham drippings and coffee.
00:12The reason people call it red eye gravy
00:14is because when you pour it into a serving bowl,
00:17the coffee sinks to the bottom
00:18and the grease pulls on the top,
00:20which resembles a red human eye.
