00:05Oh no! It's turning colder and darker, but that means it's no dig day coming up.
00:123rd of November every year, a wonderful celebration of this beautiful method of
00:17growing which gives you wonderful results such as you can see here. And we have many
00:25things going on on no dig day. For children we're running two competitions and for
00:31one there's a hundred pound prize if you submit the photo of your garden which I
00:38judge, I'm going to judge this one, to be that the best children's garden age under
00:4414 which means if you're not yet 15 at the time you submit your entry that's
00:49good. And there's details on my website page about no dig day but send your
00:54entry of photo just who you are to anna at charlesdining.co.uk and in fact
01:00Anna is going to judge the other children's competition which is
01:05vegetable art so make a piece a glorious piece of anything anything that's
01:11beautiful and wonderful send that to Anna photograph and she will judge and
01:18you'll win a prize which will be children's gardening book and a cookbook
01:22and then for grown-ups there's a caption competition we'll put a caption of a
01:29photograph on social media on the day 3rd November early might even be the
01:33night before and it's going to be sort of well wait and see that whoever puts in
01:39the caption we think is of the funniest it's about being seeing a highly nice
01:44sense of humor send entries no you don't need some entry so I correct myself
01:49we'll look at the entries on social media and we'll let you know if you've won and
01:54that will be a no dig book and calendar and we'll run two separate ones for
01:58Instagram and Facebook so it's a chance also to share online with social media is
02:06best platform for this you can just tell the world about your no dig wonder
02:11whatever you're up to the beauty of your plot the food you're growing pictures of
02:16you eating it we're gonna have a meal at home acres me and my team and we're all
02:20gonna bring a dish and have a feast and no dig feast let's have a bit of fun
02:24really it's a chance to to eat well and be more healthy again and we very much
02:30hope that you will share in this day and why 3rd November well it's because it's
02:36actually in a way you could say it's the start of the gardening year it's a
02:40great time to begin you could make a new bed on the 3rd of November actually any
02:45time of year but it is literally a really good time to start now in
02:50November and then you're ready for next spring and also it's a great time to be
02:54ongoing maintenance like I'm doing here so we've been harvesting celeriac for
02:59example and after any final harvest of the year you can see there's still a lot to
03:06go but once we clear any bed at this time of year we spread some compost and
03:12that's the beauty of no dig no dig bed prep is literally just this if it was
03:18very uneven ground I might just rake it a little bit but actually this is pretty
03:22even usually when we've harvested we'll scuff over the ground a bit just to get
03:26it level after any harvest I like to keep the surface level all the time that
03:30means that when you put the compost on you've got a level amount even amount
03:33over all of your bed and this it's so fine I can't even fork it up this is
03:39homemade compost from my big base and it's nearly nearly a year old and if you
03:48if you got less fine compost than that don't worry you can still use it bits of
03:53wood is okay we never sieve compost before putting it on the beds and you can
03:58use a fork like this just to break up the lumps as it goes down around two and a
04:03and a half centimeters one inch that's it do that on the dig day and share the
04:07post share a photo of you doing it and I hope you all are having a great time
04:12growing lovely vegetables no dig
