00:00The whole time, let me tell you, my family, and I said, please think about this. Stop. Don't do this.
00:05There's no rush. I had gotten to a point where I was like, whether or not you say yes, I'm
00:10doing this.
00:10I was manipulated so deep that there's not, I had, I had turned my back against my family.
00:15We gathered all our closest friends and we decided to have our wedding or our Nika in Austin, Texas,
00:21which is where I'm currently living. January of 2018, I had moved in with him and his family.
00:27The first couple of days, I just felt so happy. I felt so loved.
00:31And I remember the day, January 22nd, we had just had a beautiful day and I had fallen asleep.
00:37I had woken up to him just completely strangling me.
00:41He kept saying, I saw your text messages. I know who you've been talking to.
00:45Black eye punches me in the gut, throws me against the wall.
00:49This is three weeks after our wedding.
00:51So I go into the bathroom and there's a lot of pop vessels on my eye.
00:56You know, there's a lot of scratches and bruising on my neck.
00:58And a part of me was like, I can't, I can't cover this up. This can't be my life.
01:03His dad told him, you know, if you're lucky that she's a Bengali woman, because if she was white, she
01:08would have called the cops on you.
01:09And he was the first person in my life to give me the advice and to notify me that I
01:15had the option of calling the police.
01:17Incident happened a whole day past.
01:19And I said, I don't feel like there wasn't enough remorse for what you did.
01:22And he doubled down and he said, Anessa, honestly, I felt like you deserved it at the time.
01:26We'll save our money since they went to jail.
01:26Now I said, I would regret that.
01:26Let's do it.
01:26We're going to be a bully.
