A 42-year-old salesman was sentenced to 10 years' jail and two strokes of the cane by the Shah Alam Sessions Court on Wednesday (July 8) for attacking a motorcyclist with a meat cleaver on the Federal Highway last month.

Judge 'Ainul Bashiirah Dona Don Biyajid handed down the sentence against Azmi Jantan and ordered the jail term to take effect from the date of his arrest on June 11.

00:45Amir Saifullah Mohamed Salahuddin sought a heavier sentence, arguing the case should serve as a
00:51warning against road bullying and extreme road rage. He said the meat cleaver, when used as a sharp
00:56weapon was capable of causing death, and the accused is fortunate that the victim in this
01:00case did not die. The sentence takes effect from the date of Azmi's arrest on June 11.
