00:00Nigel Farage, the leader of Reform UK, has decided to stand down as a Member of Parliament for Placton on
00:05Sea,
00:06triggering a by-election in which he plans to fight.
00:08It's a chance to stick two fingers up to the entire establishment, to frankly tell them where to go.
00:16The right-wing politician has been the subject of a series of damaging articles recently,
00:20raising questions about whether he declared a £5 million gift from an overseas donor,
00:24his property portfolio, and financial benefits received from his long-term ally, George Cottrell,
00:30who has previously been convicted of wire fraud in the US.
00:33Farage has claimed that establishment media are trying to bring him down by foul means.
00:37It comes as Farage is facing a parliamentary inquiry into the undeclared £5 million gift that he received.
00:42That investigation will now be suspended until he's re-elected,
00:46and if he's not re-elected, the Commissioner can decide whether or not to continue it.
00:50While Farage is still popular in Placton, according to polling from April,
00:54it's unclear how recent reports have affected his standing.
00:57Reform has also been facing pressure from further right parties,
01:01such as Restore UK, in recent by-elections.
