00:00He can't have a better place to celebrate Ringo's birthday than the very town where he was born.
00:05Each year on his birthday since 2008, Ringo Starr has invited people everywhere to pause, think or post peace and
00:14love as a collective moment of global unity.
00:17And here's Liverpool sending a message of peace and love on his 86th birthday.
00:24Peace and love! Peace and love!
00:27It really does touch everybody across the board, age-wise, country-wise.
00:35Just in the build-up today, I spoke to people from all over the world, literally, two of whom had
00:40the same birthday as Ringo.
00:42So I told them to come along and celebrate and we'd pay a nod to them as well.
00:46But yeah, the Beatles are huge now, as they ever were, and the legacy they've left behind for this city
00:51is amazing.
00:52And so our partnership with the Beatles story to have the Ringo cast here of his hand, blown up eight
00:59and a half feet high.
01:00We are the chosen area in Liverpool, so for us, this is the third year running.
01:04Really special day for us. We've got St Silas School here celebrating with us.
01:08So yeah, big, big shout out for Ringo and peace and love.
01:12Children from Ringo's primary school, St Silas, were at the event to pay tribute to the former Beatles.
01:17It was amazing last week. We went in with our guitarist, Ed Harris, and we rehearsed not just with the
01:23kids you've seen today,
01:24but with another bunch of kids who have a special take on a Beatles song.
01:29At the Beatles story in Liverpool, fans and visitors were invited to take part in the initiative.
01:34Attendees gathered outside the museum's entrance at the Royal Albert Dock,
01:37and together a special peace and love moment was filmed to be shared on Ringo's official Facebook page as part
01:44of the international celebration.
01:45I have. We're just speaking to a few Scottish ladies there who just walked past and said what an amazing
01:52time.
01:52They've just had singing along to all the songs, watching the children sing to all the yellow submarine and things
01:59like that.
01:59So for us, it's just a really special day and we love it coming around every year.
02:04It really does seem to get legs every year.
02:07We started this off at the Beatles statues down by the ferry port a few years ago,
02:11and then when we decided to look for somewhere more permanent and somewhere we could house the hand statue,
02:17this is a perfect marriage really for us.
02:20And with the organisation getting better and better as the years go on,
02:23more and more people, we're going to need a whole parking lot to gather around next year, I think,
02:28because I couldn't quite get everybody in my camera, but it's all good.
02:31Everybody enjoyed it.
02:32We're an international visitor attraction.
02:34We've just won our international goals at the Visit England Awards.
02:38So that just cemented for the second year running.
02:40So that just shows how international we are as a brand.
02:44So for us, I was speaking to a couple of people downstairs from America who stumbled across us today,
02:52booked the visit but didn't obviously read the detail on the website and just said they've had the best day.
