Red Sox SWEEP the Angels and have now won 8 of the last 10 games. Turning point, or just a hot streak?
Transcript
00:00I wanted to bring up the Red Sox real quick. Big win for them last night. Sweep of the Angels.
00:05They had that winning streak not too long ago, then a couple of bad games against the Nationals.
00:08Are we starting to buy back in at all, or is this still just a last place team kind of,
00:12you know, winning a couple games here and there?
00:15So they won eight of the last ten, which is a great spot for them to be in.
00:19I can't just completely disregard them sweeping the Angels because last time that they were picking up pace and having
00:28almost like a little win streak,
00:30was right after they came off that horrible Rockies series.
00:33And so at that time, we were all complaining, well, we can't even depend on them to take care of
00:37the Rockies.
00:38And so they took care of business here.
00:40Like, that feels like a little bit of a step forward.
00:42You have to wait and see what's going on with Ranger Suarez and the adductor tightness.
00:49Adductor, right?
00:49Adductor, which I only know.
00:51Abductor or adductor?
00:52No, no, adductor. You know the machine.
00:54Is this a pan-pan situation?
00:55You know the machine in the gym where you sit down, it's the, you turn it one way, it's the
01:01abductor.
01:01You turn it the other way, it's the adductor.
01:04Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:05So it's the ad, A-D-D, doctor.
01:07Got it. Okay.
01:07Not that that means anything to us.
01:09Nope.
01:09But this team is just...
01:10We're not doctors.
01:11We've well established.
01:11Meggo and I, if you listen to the weekends at all, we've very much established neither of us are doctors.
01:15Not doctors, not historians either.
01:17Not historians either.
01:18If you caught Friday show.
01:20No, we know how to sling a top five around, but we are not historians.
01:24Did you mention...
01:24After the Red Sox sweep of the LA Angels, talked about the hitting and getting the sweep.
01:31How satisfying is it to come here in Anaheim and you guys gain the three-game series sweep?
01:36Yeah, I mean, they're a really good team.
01:38You know, they played hard and so did we.
01:39You know, I just, we had some really good at-bats and we kind of kept that going the whole
01:42series,
01:43which kind of led us to getting the sweep.
01:45Two home runs tonight, five in the series.
01:47How impactful was the long ball here?
01:50Yeah, I mean, I think everybody's just enjoying the SoCal vibe and just having fun out here.
01:54So, it was good to see the boys swing it today.
01:57I found it interesting he mentioned the SoCal vibe because this team has been awful at home.
02:03Is it just, is it the SoCal vibes are sick, bro, and we can't do it in Boston?
02:08Like, is that what it is?
02:10I don't want to read too much into that.
02:12He is from California, so I'm sure part of it is just him being proud of being home.
02:16But if the feeling is that they're too tight at home, we've heard about people they don't know being at
02:23home
02:23from the weird IKF comments from, like, a month ago at this point.
02:28We hear about the pressure of playing for a big market.
02:32And all of that stuff just, I don't want to read too much into it again because Durant's from California,
02:37but it's not a great look to not be able to deliver at Fenway Park.
02:41It's just not.
02:42No, it's awful.
02:43It's the fact that they are only able to win these games on the road.
02:45And you thought, okay, maybe here's a turning point, right?
02:48They sweep the Yankees at home, four games.
02:50It wasn't just like a small, quick three-game series against the Angels at home.
02:54Nope, it's against the New York Yankees.
02:56You get that four-game series.
02:57It's like, okay, here we go.
02:58You win one more against the Nationals.
02:59You're like, yeah, now we're really rolling.
03:01And then they just fall apart again.
03:02And they do exactly what they normally do at home, and they get their absolute asses kicked.
03:06And so it's cool that you go out and sweep the Angels on the road.
03:10Good for you.
03:10You're making some progress.
03:12You need to be able to do that at Fenway Park.
03:14Until you can do that at Fenway Park, this season is still dead on arrival.
03:17I'd say just sustain the momentum.
03:19Just get through this White Sox series, sustain the momentum, and then see what happens when
03:25you come out of the All-Star break.
03:26Yeah, I mean, that's the hope.
03:28Does this, even if they keep up some of this momentum, is that really going to change how
03:32they approach the trade deadline, do you think?
03:34They're three games out of the third wildcard spot.
03:39So they're very much in it if, say, they sweep here.
03:43Like, okay, they're right there.
03:45I think that they probably, and they being Kennedy, Henry, whoever, who's actually making the decisions
03:53about the pivot or not that they're going to make at the trade deadline.
03:55They look at that, and maybe it's a last gasp of, we can save what would have been a historically
04:01bad season for us, and be in the playoffs, at least have an appearance in the postseason,
04:06and be historical in a way where, wow, the first half of the season was so awful and so
04:12dysfunctional, and you swept through the entire management, like, overall, the manager and
04:17everybody who was loyal to him.
04:20Then you can turn around and say, and we still made the postseason.
04:23Like, that might be something that they feel like they can hang their hat on.
04:26I still think a fire sale is the smartest thing for the organization.
04:30Absolutely.
04:30Because I don't think they're going anywhere with the offense they have.
04:32You mentioned the former manager.
04:33Do you think he's going to make that donation to the Jimmy Fund since Wilson Gutierrez had
04:36his 20th home run last night?
04:38Yeah.
04:38Hell yeah.
04:39I think Cora is, what's really interesting to me is all the whispers behind the scenes
04:45about how much Cora still talks with everybody from this organization.
04:49And I'm not talking about guys in the clubhouse or guys who are maybe not, like, the loyalists
04:55that left with him but still working.
04:57Like, guys who work very deep in the organization, he still seems to have a good and constant relationship
05:06with him.
05:06Well, yeah.
05:06We even heard those comments from Karabas last week where he's like, I feel like they're
05:12playing footsie on the table.
05:13And I wouldn't rule out, like, Alex Cora coming back in some capacity.
05:16Kennedy pretty much ruled that out last week on the show.
05:19But it is interesting that there, even though Alex, I think, posts a little bit of almost
05:25passive-aggressive emojis of happy, like, I'm doing so well since I don't have to manage
05:30this crappy team anymore.
05:32I'm interested to see why the lines of communication appear to still be so open.
05:37I'm interested to see why the lines of communication appear to be so open.
05:37I'm interested to see why the lines of communication are at once.
