00:00Hi, I'm Master Conley and this is Zachary Conley.
00:03Oh, did you just start it right now?
00:04Hi, I'm Master Conley and this is Zachary Conley.
00:07And today we're going to be demonstrating the techniques from first degree to second degree.
00:10And you're going to notice that the technique is going to have much more transitions,
00:13much more flows in it, much more control with the lot.
00:16And so we're going to go into very, everything is going to be very dynamic in this belt level.
00:21So the first one is going to be a punch defense.
00:23And so we're dealing with that person punching into us
00:26and we're going to redirect it in a circular motion.
00:28And as I redirect this circular motion, I'm going to redirect it and grab in here.
00:32So they come on in, strike in here, and I'm going to lock them with my center lock.
00:36Now it's not just important to know the center lock,
00:39you want to be able to control the person in every direction of your center lock.
00:42So I want them to go backwards, I want them to go forward, I want them to go down, I
00:47want them to come up.
00:48You have to be able to control your person with this lock in any direction you want.
00:53Okay?
00:54We should be at this bubble, be able to transition from one lock into another lock, into another lock.
01:01And not just do one lock.
01:03Okay?
01:03I'm going to show another technique.
01:05He's coming in, he's punching in at me, and this time I'm circling in the other direction.
01:09And so no matter what circle you take, at the end of every circle you have an opportunity for a
01:14lock.
01:14And so I'm coming on, he's punching at me, I do like an outward block, circle, re-grab here.
01:18You notice my foot already stepping?
01:20I'm going to step across here, I'm going to bring it around and come right into what's called Shinagi.
01:25And I have a lot I can do from here.
01:26I can take him down and pin the Shinagi.
01:29So I take him down here, and now this pin here, when I come on in and drop down to
01:33my knee here,
01:34I can pin his arm here, and if I push this handle a little further, I lock his wrist.
01:39Just by pushing down here.
01:41So where his pain is coming from is the wrist.
01:42I can take his wrist and twist it.
01:44See my key finger?
01:45I'm twisting it here.
01:47I can come in and lock it here.
01:48I can switch into my feet here, and come into the pressure point area here.
01:53And I lock him at the same time here.
01:55So a lot you can do from that Shinagi.
01:57The next one here, he's coming and he's punching at me.
01:59I redirect him right behind him right away.
02:02So I move right behind him, so you'll notice that I have his arm pulled back.
02:06I'm not grabbing it with my hand.
02:07I'm just hooking it with a praying mantis.
02:11And I pull back and I lock his elbow here, and I lock his neck here.
02:15So I pull his head backwards this way.
02:17So I've got him rusted up against my chest here.
02:20And as I do this, I want to pop it, redirect it, and swoosh him down to the ground.
02:25So as he's coming into me, I come in right behind him here.
02:28And I step in here, and I redirect him and pull him down to the ground.
02:31Now as he hits the ground, I hold on his hand, and I take his fingers and I press it
02:35right up against my arm here.
02:37Armbar here, hand and center lock at the same time.
02:39So it doesn't look like I have a center lock.
02:41If you look at his wrist, I'm rotating him here.
02:44It's a straight arm center lock.
02:45It's a little different angle from that lock.
02:49This next one is a front kick.
02:51So it's not roundhouse.
02:52It's linear.
02:53So it's coming straight at me.
02:55I want to just move out of the way.
02:57So I don't want to keep my body in that path.
03:00I'm going to move my body out of the way, and I'm going to slap the calf muscle.
03:03So I'm redirecting the calf muscle.
03:05I don't want to jam my hand.
03:07I don't want to jam my...
03:08There's a lot of energy coming in here.
03:09So the last thing I want to do is jam into it.
03:12I want to just let it go by me.
03:13So he's trying to kick me.
03:14Boom!
03:14I pop it.
03:15Now as I pop it, I want to move in on him.
03:18So I move off the side and then move in.
03:20And as I move in, I'm taking that elbow and I'm striking down.
03:25Bang!
03:26Right on the edge of one of those quads.
03:28I like the outside quad because it's already starting to turn over for me.
03:31Boom!
03:31I pop it.
03:32I grab his arm because after you do this, he's going to want to hit you.
03:35Boom!
03:36I grab his arm just so he doesn't do that.
03:38And I kick the back of his hamstring with a hook kick.
03:42So you know you're not even sleeping.
03:43You're just going to bang!
03:44Hit here and he's going to fall down on the ground.
03:46I wanted to show you guys.
03:48There's a pressure point right here.
03:50Right here.
03:51Just using my thumbs and pressing right above the ankle bone.
03:53So I'm going to take my punch and I'm going to punch.
03:56Bang!
03:57Hard!
03:57My knuckles right on that nerve.
03:59Boom!
04:00Here.
04:00If the other leg clicks up at me at this bigger point, I block it.
04:03I strike in here.
04:04Okay?
04:05This next defense technique is a full down stance.
04:07He's coming up behind me.
04:08He comes up and reaches on in.
04:10He blocks his fingers on in here.
04:12So the first thing I want to do is I want to drop in that horseback line stance.
04:15I want to put my arms down here.
04:16And I want to not spend too much time doing this.
04:18If I needed to, I could brace my head.
04:20If he's really strong, I'm pushing my head forward like this.
04:22I can come up here and get a brace here to protect my neck so it doesn't get hurt.
04:25From here, I'm going to reach up with both hands.
04:28And I'm going to reach for some fingers.
04:29I don't know what fingers I'm grabbing.
04:31But now I've got both hands.
04:32I got lucky.
04:33Something I do is that's so locked down in there.
04:35I only got one finger.
04:37That's fine.
04:38If you get one finger, I'm going to bend it backwards here.
04:41As I do that, I'm going to push this out of my way.
04:43I'm going to take this.
04:44I'm going to take a step.
04:45As I take a step, I'm going to pull this arm.
04:47I'm going to pull into me here.
04:49Now you notice I didn't let go of that pinky.
04:51I've got my key finger on out here.
04:53So it's a little confusing looking at all these fingers here.
04:55But this is my finger.
04:56These are his fingers.
04:57I hold on to the elbow and I point his finger down.
05:00And what I have here is a center lock being done with his middle finger.
05:05So not only is his wrist starting to lock, but his finger is getting cranked here.
05:10What I'm going to do is I'm going to spin backwards.
05:13As I do this, I'm going to control him and drop him down.
05:16Now, you do not want him to go flat here where he's resting on his back or shoulder here.
05:22Because he could punch me or he could feel like he can grab me.
05:25And if he does grab me and pulls me up and down, I lost control.
05:28So I bring him up on one elbow with pain.
05:31Okay?
05:32So now if he reaches up towards me, I just amplify his pain.
05:35So I have total control over him.
05:37This is where you want it.
05:39Okay?
05:39So this is a finger lock.
05:41A minor center lock.
05:43And the control is primarily the finger.
05:45You see my thumb resting up the back of his hand?
05:48That's so helpful.
05:48He's got really flexible fingers.
05:51So most people's fingers are like that.
05:53And you've got a lot of pain.
05:54He goes back really far.
05:55He plays the piano.
05:56So his fingers are super flexible.
05:57I come on in.
05:58I crank it.
05:59And he's right about there.
06:01Okay?
06:02This next technique is both your wrists are being grabbed at the same time.
06:05So right here, he's grabbing both my wrists.
06:07Instead of me trying to break away both of them.
06:10Once I break away both, we're both equal right now.
06:12We're going right back into hardstyle or grabbing or whatever.
06:14So what's great about this is if someone's grabbing me with two hands, that's great because I don't have to
06:19worry about him hitting me right now.
06:21And I have a lot of options open to me.
06:23I can kick him.
06:24He can kick me.
06:25So we're pretty equal there.
06:26But what I'm going to do is I'm going to come in line-hand.
06:28I'm going to circle up and I'm going to hand his other wrist to my other hand.
06:33You notice that breakaway occurred.
06:34So I come on in.
06:36Breakaway.
06:36The hand of this broke away, I'm going to come up underneath and grab him in the elbow.
06:39See, now I'm locking his elbow here and I'm going to pull him here.
06:42So I have two elbow locks.
06:44I have an elbow lock underneath against my shoulder.
06:45I have the elbow lock here.
06:47So I have two.
06:47Double elbow lock.
06:48I'm in horseback.
06:50And what I'm going to do is I'm going to buck my butt back in him.
06:52I'm going to pull him forward.
06:54I'm going to basically bow him forward and flip him right on over.
06:57Very little energy.
06:58From here, I have an outside wrist lock still.
07:01I never let go.
07:02I come in a lot here.
07:04I have an arm bar and a wrist lock all at the same time.
07:07Next technique, two hands grabbing from behind.
07:10So, I mean, I have a lot open to me here.
07:12I can move into him.
07:14I can strike into him.
07:14Strike into him.
07:15I can throw him here.
07:16But what I'm going to do instead is a very Aikido concept.
07:21Is that harmony concept.
07:23That all that getting in balance with his balance points.
07:26So from here, I lift one hand up.
07:28He pushes that hand down.
07:29I lift the other hand up.
07:31And as I do that, he's still holding on.
07:33And I take that step spin.
07:34As I do this, I come up and grab into his hand here.
07:39So I have a center line.
07:40Grab into his fingers.
07:42And I'm going to take this.
07:43You see my key fingers?
07:45And point it back at him.
07:46So even if he held onto me with the other hand, it doesn't matter.
07:49From here, striking in.
07:51Locking him.
07:52Taking him down backwards here.
07:54And you're going to notice what I'm doing here.
07:56I bring him up on that one elbow again.
07:58I don't ever give him a chance to think he can grab me.
08:01Remember, it's never brute strength to control somebody with Aikido.
08:05One finger only.
08:07One finger here.
08:09You get a good tap on him.
08:11So it's never brute strength.
08:13If you're struggling on it, you're not doing it correctly.
08:15Okay?
08:17The next thing I want to do is this is teaching this control.
08:19You somehow you ended up on the ground.
08:21It happens.
08:22Being able to use.
08:23So he's coming in close to me here.
08:24And what I do is I use my shin bone here to keep him away from me.
08:28Okay?
08:28If he came over here on this side, I would switch over to the other side.
08:31See how my foot hooks around his waist?
08:33So I got a little bit of control.
08:35I can do a little bit of this.
08:36But I still have to worry about these.
08:38So I know he's going to come in and try and strike into me.
08:41And when he does strike, I grab that arm.
08:43And notice what I do.
08:44I open up and I do what's called shrimping.
08:48So the hand I'm grabbing, I'm going to shrimp that way.
08:51So I shrimp.
08:53And I take my foot and I kick this knee out from underneath him.
08:57But not all the way.
08:58So I don't want his weight crashing down on top of my leg.
09:01Just enough to open him.
09:02Just a little bit.
09:03Just enough to get this kind of a feel.
09:05I can scissor underneath there.
09:06So I do this leg goes this way.
09:08This leg goes this way.
09:09So I can hit him on the way up.
09:11And I come around and hook his face here.
09:12Now as I do this, this arm I'm going to pull this way.
09:18This is very important.
09:19So I'm going to pull this arm this way.
09:21As I'm pushing this leg this way.
09:23So I'm pulling and pushing.
09:24Now my knee underneath here is going to raise up.
09:27I'm going to raise it up and put it right on his back.
09:30So right now, this has a good bend to my knee.
09:33If this is flat, he's going to be laying on my leg and it's going to pin me.
09:36I want this leg to be a benefit for me.
09:39So you think about this.
09:40Look at his neck.
09:41So if you come around here, Mitchell.
09:43And come around and get into his head and his neck here.
09:45So you see this knee is here.
09:47It's up.
09:48This is coming down.
09:49And my back, this right knee here, is raised up against his T1 vertebrae.
09:54And this leg is coming crashing down.
09:57And I do a scissory technique just because of neck breaking technique.
10:00So this is because it's very aggressive scissor as I'm coming in there.
10:05Now, as I got him in that position, maybe I don't want to break his neck.
10:09Maybe he's my son.
10:10Maybe we got into some of that kind of argument.
10:13We got into this situation here.
10:14I don't want to do something drastic here.
10:16So maybe I'll do a persuading conversation.
10:19You'll never do that again.
10:21Yes sir.
10:21Okay.
10:22Alright, good.
10:22This technique is more of like a clinch standing grappling technique.
10:26So think of like a Muay Thai fighter.
10:28Somebody's got a clinch to grab onto.
10:29So he's grabbing me around my neck.
10:31Maybe they knee me up into the face here.
10:33And I'm going to use my X-Block to protect myself.
10:35So I can use my cross-hand technique to actually protect myself.
10:38But beyond that, I have to get out of this predicament.
10:42So what I'm going to do is I'm going to go straight up the middle.
10:44So my favorite hand is my right hand.
10:47And that's my dominant hand.
10:48So I'm going to go right up the middle.
10:49And I'm going to reach right behind this head.
10:51When I'm doing this, I'm going to come into the pressure point.
10:54And that pressure point is right here in that lymph gland.
10:57So I dig my finger right up here.
10:59So you can see his response as I do that.
11:01So as I do this, I use that pressure point to guide him and bring him around.
11:06Down to the ground here.
11:07I go right down with him here.
11:09And I come in and I slither my arm right around his neck here.
11:13Okay.
11:13I take the arm that was just around here.
11:15I come on in.
11:16And I can bring it down and arm bar him against my leg here.
11:20I can also just do it with my legs.
11:21So here I have a figure four.
11:23If I lift my leg here, you can see him tap.
11:26Okay.
11:27If his arm is too strong and I can't push it down here,
11:30I can hand this hand here and work on an arm crank this way instead.
11:34I can also do that same arm crank with my leg here.
11:37Like this.
11:38See that?
11:39I can also go into what's called a scissor choke.
11:42I can come in here and choke him into a scissor choke.
11:44So I'm coming along and I turn his head sideways.
11:47I take my blade of my arm.
11:48I press it right into his artery here.
11:51And come in here.
11:52So ideally I like to have good control of the arm.
11:54And come on in and go in for my choke at the same time.
11:57Okay.
11:58We're doing an attack from behind.
12:00Bear hug from behind.
12:01So he's coming behind me.
12:02Boom.
12:02He clinches in here.
12:03So maybe he's doing this.
12:05Maybe I'm dealing with this friend in front of me.
12:07And he decides he's going to jump into the action here.
12:10He's going to come in.
12:10He's going to pin my arms down.
12:12So this friend can keep hitting me and stuff like this.
12:13So in reality, beyond this.
12:16If someone came up and grabbed you like this.
12:18I don't know what else they could do to you.
12:19Now they're super strong and lift you up and try it through your head.
12:22But beyond that.
12:22There's not much you can do here.
12:24Besides give you a giant hug.
12:26Which some people might like that.
12:28But I don't.
12:29I'm dealing with conflict in front of me.
12:31He's grabbing me to pin my arms.
12:32So he's trying to restrain my arms.
12:34That's his main goal.
12:35And so what I'm going to do.
12:37Is I'm going to take a giant step backwards.
12:39In between these legs here.
12:41Boom.
12:41Here.
12:41You see what's going to happen.
12:43I'm going to open that opening.
12:44I'm going to spread my arms on out.
12:46Boom.
12:47I'm going to get into the groin here.
12:49So coming in and showing you again.
12:51From here.
12:52I come on in.
12:53He's got a strong grip.
12:55I can't get out.
12:57So instead of me fighting him.
13:01His power.
13:02I go in towards his base.
13:04I go to his center point.
13:05Because if I go into his center.
13:07And I step in.
13:07Now you notice what I just did.
13:09I don't know if you saw me hit his leg there.
13:11But when I hit his leg.
13:13I cause a knock out balance here.
13:14And it makes it easier for me to break his grip here.
13:16And I'm not going to stop here.
13:18Boom.
13:18I hit my elbow.
13:19Since I have the groin wide open for attack.
13:21I'm hitting into the groin here.
13:23And you notice what I'm doing.
13:24I'm hitting here.
13:25I'm hitting here.
13:25You see what I'm doing.
13:26I'm stepping back.
13:27And when I'm stepping back.
13:28That foot is getting further and further between my legs.
13:29I grab it.
13:30I just pull it.
13:32So I don't try to reach it from way in there.
13:35Cause then you're like off balance yourself.
13:37I come in.
13:38I strike bang into the groin.
13:41I spin towards the side of the leg that I have.
13:45So I have his right leg right now.
13:47So I spin to his right side.
13:50So I hope that spins out things for you.
13:51As I'm doing this.
13:53I fold this leg right on in.
13:55You notice my knee is bent here.
13:57And it's pressing.
13:59You might not be able to see this.
14:00But I'm pressing.
14:01My calf muscle against his calf muscle.
14:04And I'm bending his leg.
14:05And I'm bending his wrist here.
14:07Now.
14:08Grab this here.
14:10And pull up here.
14:12Okay.
14:13So.
14:14Good.
14:14This is not like standing grappling.
14:16So he's maybe a wrestler.
14:18He tried diving for my legs.
14:19I stopped him here.
14:20So we're in more of this way here.
14:22So maybe he'll stand back on up.
14:24Here.
14:25So.
14:25What I'm going to do.
14:26As we're pushing each other.
14:28You see I'm going to.
14:29Hold on.
14:30I'm going to take them off balance here.
14:32So I go one way.
14:33I go the other way.
14:34As we're moving on here.
14:36So.
14:36Believe it or not.
14:37This could be a technique on itself here.
14:39It's just.
14:39Taking someone off balance this way.
14:41But we're going to go a little different.
14:42So just.
14:44One direction.
14:45The other.
14:46See how my feet work there.
14:47I go.
14:48One way.
14:49And then the other way.
14:50And my arms counter that.
14:52That motion.
14:53Because what you want to do.
14:55In order to have a very successful throw.
14:56You want to catch them off guard.
14:58And.
14:59So the best way is this.
15:00You are grabbing arms.
15:01I pull down one way.
15:03I come up the other way.
15:04Now as I move this.
15:05I move my foot.
15:07One.
15:08Two.
