00:00Hi, I'm Master Conley, and I'm Zachary Conley, and today we're going to be demonstrating what it requires in your
00:05Hapakido for your first degree black belt, so from pro black to first degree here today.
00:09What we're going to demonstrate here is three different punching techniques.
00:12So the first technique is him coming in hook punch here, and I'm going to hook my arm around.
00:16He's going to come in again, I'm going to block it, I'm going to hook my arm around here, and
00:20lift up here.
00:21So I do that, I've got a double arm bar.
00:23So you've got, you see my arms right here, I'm coming up underneath here.
00:25I've got a double arm coming out, he's coming up on his tiptoes, I'll push him in the throat here,
00:29I'll hit him in the groin.
00:30So you notice that when I push him in the throat, his groin comes forward, it makes it a little
00:34easier for a hit into the throat here.
00:36At this bigger point, I'll let go, grabbing into the head here, twisting the head.
00:41So my one hand is under the chin here, my other hand is in the back part of the head.
00:45I twist here, I take all the way down, and I hit his head down the ground, and I hit
00:49my knee right here.
00:50So I have my knee right on the shoulder, coming on in, and right into the face strike here, okay?
00:54The next one's a hook punch, and hook punch coming at you again.
00:57This one's called a limb destruction technique.
00:59I come in, I block here, I destroy the bicep muscle here.
01:02He comes in, and I block again, I strike into the bicep muscle.
01:05And if he's stupid enough to punch you again, I block here, I scoop down, and I come in ridge
01:10arms up, and I strike into the tricep muscle.
01:13So if you're doing this full force, I'm pushing down with this hand, I'm coming up with this hand, I
01:17break the arm here.
01:18If that's not enough here, you step behind him, and you kick his leg out the front of each other,
01:22and pull him down the ground.
01:23So right now, I'm right over him, I'm holding on to his arm, I do not let go of his
01:27arm.
01:28I take this leg right here, I swing it up, boom, axe kick, right into the ribcage.
01:32This knee's going to drop down, now in real life, you just drop that knee down, right under the head.
01:36But class, we don't want to hurt each other, so I take this knee, and I'm going to go right
01:39behind the head here.
01:40Right now, I have this, I have this heel, digging into the ribcage.
01:45It's pressed up against this leg right here, so you can't escape.
01:49I push against the ribcage here, I'm going to take his arm, his hand here, I'm going to fold it,
01:54and roll it into almost like a gooseneck, or a figure four kind of feel to it.
02:00Pressing, this is a wrist compression technique, so I'm compressing that wrist lock right here.
02:04So he's tapping, so I have a good lock here, I have him secured right here as well.
02:09Okay, so that's technique number two.
02:11Technique number three is a linear punch, so the person's coming in straight in, punch, I brush, trap, I could
02:17strike if I want, I can knee strike if I want, I can come into my arm bar.
02:22So he's coming in, he's punching at me again, brush, trap, strike, coming in, arm bar here.
02:29So they come in that nice strong arm bar.
02:30So I'm going to finish off a couple different ways, so I want you to watch.
02:33There's a couple different things you can do with this, he's coming in, he's coming in, brush trap, strike here,
02:38arm bar, I can take the arm bar all the way down, and take it down here.
02:42And I'm coming in, I'm grinding in that tricep tendon.
02:45I'm pulling up on this arm, this is where the control comes in, okay?
02:49Alright, options, other options.
02:51Let's just say you have multiple attackers, I didn't have time to take them all the way down, I lock
02:55his arm, I push him away from me.
02:57So right now I'm able to, if you were my other attacker, I'd be able to deal with you right
03:00now, okay?
03:02Alright, others?
03:03If maybe he has a black belt double, you're getting pretty good at your hopkido, I come in key strike,
03:08back fist, ox jaw, many different strikes in that rib cage.
03:13Coming in arm bar, you feel, I don't like going down in that arm bar, you can always transition to
03:19no lock.
03:19You're never restricted to this to him.
03:23On this, I'm going to be doing defense against roundhouse kick.
03:25This first one's like a scissor block, so he throws his roundhouse at me, pull him, I'm going to trap
03:29it, so I kind of got that one hand blocking, this hand blocking my face in case that was a
03:35low high roundhouse, between one and two, I still have this hand to protect me.
03:39So it's coming in from the roundhouse, oh my, it's coming in, that scissor block, I strike hard, right into
03:45those quad muscles, boom, and with my blade in my arm, I take that hand here, and I kind of,
03:49it looks like I'm giving him a hug around his waist,
03:51I step behind his leg, and if you're good enough on your horseback riding stance, you should be able to
03:56hold someone, both feet off the ground in that horseback riding stance, so when I take him down at more
04:00full speed here, I come on in here, I flip him, boom, to the ground, see his brake fall, that's
04:06important, I come in and I strike, right on the inside, his femoral artery, inside, right above the knee, strike
04:13in here, pressure point strike, pressure point strike, groin strike.
04:17The guy's still moving around at that bigger point, take him, flip him over, and kick him right into the
04:23ribcage.
04:23Next one here is going to be more redirect concepts, so I'm trying to catch it, lock it, still the
04:28gut, this is coming in his roundhouse, I move back, I sweep it by, so he's off balance a little
04:34bit right now, this is good, I cover his eyes, I pull him backwards, off balance here, so you see
04:39him pulling back on his heel, from here I'm going to guide his head right down to the ground, now
04:43in real life, I would smash the ground right into the ground, right into the ground, right into the ground,
04:46right into the ground,
04:46So if that's concrete, that'd be a knockout technique itself, boom, strike in to the side of the neck here.
04:52Alright, this next one is very similar to the redirect and covering the eyes, so as he's coming in roundhouse,
04:57man, I redirect him, but instead of going behind him and covering his eyes, I grab onto that shoulder here,
05:02and I sweep into the leg, boom, I'm on it, grab into that arm, strike in, boom, here, now I
05:08could drop my knee down, and go into that wrist lock, but kind of fun, is going into the arm
05:14bar from here.
05:15So what I'm going to do is I'm going to sit down right behind him, I'm going to pull up
05:18on his arm hard, you don't do this, he's not going to fall in that right position for the arm
05:22bar, so as I sit back, I pull up on his arm, so you see how he pulled into me,
05:27so I have no gap with him between my groin and my groin area here, I've got to pull it
05:31in nice and tight, so right here, I have the beginning of an arm bar, now, since we're martial artists,
05:37we know how to kick, so we have all the ribcage here, or the face here, so you have all
05:42these hook kicks here, so I hit them in the ribcage,
05:44and soften them up, I hit them in the face, and soften them up, I come on in for my
05:49arm bar, arm bar, this arm, this elbow, this tricep tendon area, I'm going to pull it across my hip
05:54flexor, and lift my hips up at the same time, he's going to tap, you could add that wrist lock,
06:01he'll go in here, and I come on in, wrist lock here, if I don't like that, extra, extra credit,
06:06you could put your foot behind his head here, you could flip him around, and spin around, and what we
06:11have is a figure four arm bar here,
06:14this is not required for Black One graduation, this is like very, very advanced, coming in, locking into that elbow,
06:21so I just do this with my legs, it arm bars him, I come in and press against his wrist
06:25here, I have a wrist lock, and I come on in here with my elbow, I grind into his back,
06:29I have a arm rest, okay, so next attack, this person's coming in behind me here, it's called a secured
06:35choke, or rear naked choke, so you know, if he had me on the ground, he'd have his legs wrapped
06:40around me,
06:40he had me standing on up here, he got in on me, my, ideally, when a person first comes in
06:46on you, choke level, you should drop in your horseback riding stance, and drop your chin down first, so I
06:50like to get that chin in, then I'm safe, because it's really hard for him to choke me right now,
06:55but let's just say he got in on me, really good, into my neck, I only have a short amount
06:59of time to get out of this, because five seconds, he knocks me on out, same hand, his same arm
07:05is grabbing me and choking me, same side hand reaches around, reaches from the back of the head,
07:10the other hand, going to come up and reach into the eyes, so in real life, you'll be grinding into
07:15the person's eyes, since I like stack, I'm not going to grind into his eyes, but this hand here, I'm
07:20not going to be so nice, I'm going to press into the carotter artery, so you can get a close
07:23up right there, see these fingers right here, I'm pushing straight in on that carotter artery here, so I'm pushing
07:29in, as I'm doing that, he's tapping, you roll, and as I take him down, I use my chin to
07:34hold on against my hand here, so I kind of got this trapped here, pushing down here, striking in here,
07:40we've got all the locks open to you as well here, okay, all right, so next thing I'm going to
07:45demonstrate is knife defense, and before I even get into knife defense and gun defense, there's just a basic concept
07:51that has to be explained first, action reaction concepts, okay, so in a self-defense scenario, there's action reaction, being
07:59able to operate within the decision cycle of an attacker or an enemy is an important concept to learn in
08:04any martial arts, any martial arts, whether it be hop, keto, taekwondo, karate, all of them,
08:09if you master this, if you understand, if you grasp this, it opens up a huge self-defense door for
08:14you, a window of opportunity, so let me explain this to you, um, Zach's going to open his fingers here,
08:19and he sees me drop the card, he is going to just pinch his fingers together, he's going to try
08:24to catch the card, now he doesn't know what I'm going to let go of it, so he is totally
08:27reacting to his vision of me letting go of the card, so I have that card between the fingers, I'll
08:32let go of it, yeah, now, this is on camera, everybody's watching right now, I do need you, I do
08:39need you, I do need you,
08:39I do need you to try to grab your card, you understand what I want, so I'll put it myself,
08:42anyways, I have a little distraction there, so that adds on to that reaction time, so anyways, we go in
08:48to knife defense, and as I say, he's dropping onto my pal, he has my knife up into my throat,
08:55so he's got it touching,
08:56so at any point in time, if I try to grab his arm, he's going to pull, okay, if I
09:01hit him, he's going to pull, if I kick him, he's going to pull, so any hard style, it's not
09:07going to work at this bigger point, hard style, maybe, if I jerked here and then pushed this way, but
09:12then I still don't have any control of the weapon, so what I want to do, is I want to
09:16put my hands in surrender position, I want to ask his demands, like, what do you want, and before he
09:22can even answer me,
09:23I come on in here, I move that knife away from my neck, just like an inner block, but it's
09:28more of an inner grab, okay, so he's coming in here, you notice my hand purposely, in surrender mode, came
09:34lower than this arm over here,
09:35because if it came at the same level, I'd have a hard time going through this arm to hit this
09:40arm here, so I really purposely lean a little lower, so I can come in and grab it here,
09:44I come underneath this hand and grab the thumb muscle here, and I actually step into him and strike him
09:50with my elbow, so right there, I hit him with my elbow,
09:52and you notice what I start, I start at the beginning of the outside wrist lock here, I take that
09:57outside wrist lock, I lock here, I slice in his own neck with his own knife,
10:00and I come in and maybe jab him with a stab, so it's all economy in motion, I go one
10:05direction, I go the other direction, and then I take that direction,
10:08I go outward, and the outside wrist lock, and as I do this, I spin backwards with this foot here,
10:13so as I step back here, I lock it down here,
10:15so I'm actually going to do that extra motion here, so I get good on the camera, and as he
10:19hits the ground, this is important, I bring this knee into the elbow,
10:24because if I don't, he's going to spin out on me, here, roll out, there you go, good, he rolls
10:29out on you, so when you take him down, oh, you put that knee in there right away,
10:34see that, so I stop him from rolling on me, and I have an arm bar here at the same
10:38time, now knife disorder, he's almost already letting go of the knife,
10:43just with the outside wrist lock, so I take my hand here, and I do the dull side of the
10:46knife, rotate, take the knife away,
10:49at this bigger point, you have an extreme advantage over here, you have a wrist lock, you have an arm
10:54bar,
10:54you have a good pin with your knee on top of the shoulder there, and you have his weapon, and
10:59that's where you want to be.
11:00There's only two ways, really, a knife will attack, and there's different angles of attack, but there's three, the two
11:06main ways,
11:06there's linear, and there's circular, circular has many different angles, so he can slash at me, but the number, the
11:14number five stab is a very common attack,
11:17and so what I'm going to do, is I'm going to do what's called a butterfly block with my hands,
11:21my thumbs like this,
11:22I don't want to try to stop it with my hands open like this, because if I do, and he
11:26comes in, and I slip, he goes through those hands,
11:30those thumbs interlocked are really important, because it actually has that web I need to catch that arm coming out
11:36of me, that knife.
11:38Now, knife and gun, when it comes to knife, we try to get control of the weapon bearing arm as
11:43quick as possible,
11:44when it comes to gun, we try to get control of the gun as quick as possible, so from here,
11:49as it's coming into me,
11:50I want to get control of the arm, come on in and grab it,
11:55step under the arm, so you make this rigidly arm, step, spin this, take another step again,
12:00and from here, what I have is the beginning of a center lock,
12:04so if I take his lock and I twist it here, you can see him tapping here,
12:08but as I am passing under him, I could stab him with his own knife,
12:13and I don't want to sit there and play with this too long, because anybody gets stabbed with his knife,
12:16his other hand is going to try to come up there very quickly,
12:19and I don't want to give him the ability to grab that knife away from me again, I want to
12:22get that knife away from him,
12:24so I don't want to be stabbing him multiple times, because it doesn't look good for you either,
12:28so you come on in, so I have a wrist lock here, I have what's called a center lock,
12:31and I'm going to throw him with the center lock, so I use the lock to lift him,
12:36and look at this, this is the aid of this finger here, I can almost flip him,
12:39so I can grab here and then toss him, right on over,
12:43and right from there, you come right into a good defensive stance on the knife,
12:46got an inverted grip on that knife right now,
12:48that next one is attack from behind with a knife,
12:50so if every person comes behind you, they have the knife in the neck,
12:53and rust it right up against your neck,
12:55so if I try to, again, if I try to grab him,
12:57I'm dealing with him pulling across my neck,
12:59so what I'm going to do is I'm going to drop my chin down on top of the hand,
13:02I'm going to drop into horseback riding stance,
13:04I'm going to put my butt into him,
13:06so as I do all three of these things here,
13:08I lift his feet off the ground,
13:09pull that knife right now,
13:11pull it, pull it,
13:13very hard for him,
13:14okay, now as I'm doing that,
13:15as I'm dropping down here,
13:17here, I'm going to take a cross hand,
13:20grab his knuckles,
13:21twist outward,
13:22other hands grabbing into the thumb muscle,
13:25coming in outside wrist lock,
13:27I pull into my sternum,
13:30that intensifies a lot,
13:31you see him tapping right now,
13:32at that bigger point,
13:33I'm going to take the knife away from him,
13:34I'm going to stab him with his own knife,
13:37I'm going to take him,
13:37I'm going to outside wrist lock,
13:38you can see how my leg is out here,
13:40on purpose,
13:41so when I pull him,
13:42it trips right over my leg here,
13:44and look where I am,
13:45I'm right in that same spot again,
13:47I got my knee on top of the elbow,
13:49locking him right here,
13:50and you have the knife,
13:51alright,
13:52so now we're dealing with gun defense,
13:53and we have a rubber gun,
13:55we're going to work with real guns here,
13:57we're doing an orange rubber gun,
13:58which is very nice,
14:00because it's easier for you to see,
14:01in the video,
14:02a lot of times you see videos,
14:03it's a black gun,
14:04black clothing,
14:05it's very difficult for you to see,
14:06so we're using an orange gun here today,
14:07for learning purposes here,
14:09so we're dealing with gun,
14:10and we're dealing with gun,
14:11a little higher assault,
14:13we're doing a one-handed gun assault right now,
14:15we're not dealing two-handed,
14:16so one-handed,
14:17anywhere in the chest,
14:18and up,
14:19it's going to be the same technique,
14:20so what I'm going to do,
14:21since I'm in a very lethal situation,
14:23for me right now,
14:25I want to make sure that I put him at ease,
14:27I want to make him feel like he's in complete control,
14:29so my hands come up,
14:31I swim,
14:31what do you want,
14:32please don't hurt me,
14:33gummy bears,
14:33gummy bears,
14:34always after my gummy bears,
14:35so from here,
14:36what I'm going to do,
14:36is I'm going to move the gun away from my chest,
14:40my center,
14:40my center mass here,
14:41because if this goes off right now,
14:43it's bye-bye me,
14:44so what I need to do is,
14:45I need to move this gun,
14:47away from me as much as possible,
14:49at the same time,
14:49you need to move me away from the gun as much as possible,
14:52now,
14:52we all remember the car stepping through the finger's trick,
14:55the action reaction,
14:55so Zach,
14:56when you see me move,
14:57when you see a threatening movement towards your gun,
14:59I want you to go back,
15:01okay,
15:01so you see,
15:02his bang happened,
15:03I'm out of the way,
15:04his shot over this way,
15:06at this particular point,
15:07I want to make sure I never put my hand in front of that,
15:09that gun,
15:10here,
15:11the barrel,
15:12because if he fires again,
15:13boom,
15:14I got my hands missing,
15:15I want to make sure I come up underneath,
15:17and grab into the barrel here,
15:19now,
15:19if it goes off here,
15:20it takes about six pounds of grip,
15:22to stop the slide from sliding,
15:23so it doesn't take a tremendous amount of strength,
15:25I'm going to take the barrel pointer right back at him,
15:27now,
15:28if it goes off now,
15:29it's not necessarily the end of the technique,
15:31but you got good control over the situation,
15:33strike him with your elbow,
15:34and you're going to take that barrel,
15:36and you're going to point it down to the ground,
15:37so I have good control,
15:39over it with this hand here,
15:41see the outside wrist lock,
15:42now,
15:42I want to make sure,
15:43when I strip his gun away from him,
15:46I don't ever point it back at my leg,
15:48or my body,
15:49so as I come on in,
15:50I take that step spin step back,
15:52I point it down to the ground,
15:53and as I strip that weapon away,
15:55I want to make sure I don't do this,
15:56see,
15:57it's pointing at my knee,
15:58so if it went off now,
16:00that would not be good,
16:01so when I strip it away,
16:02I strip it away from me,
16:03and outside wrist lock,
16:05he's hand at the same time,
16:05so I have a lock here,
16:07and what I'm going to do,
16:07is I'm going to clear away from him,
16:09I'm going to advance my weapon,
16:11and I'm going to clear a good 20 feet away,
16:13and keep it right here,
16:14roll over,
16:14roll over,
16:15cross your fingers,
16:16right behind your head,
16:17dig,
16:17and burp like a chicken,
16:21so the next one,
16:23because obviously,
16:25we're dealing with someone,
16:26who's attacking,
16:27they can attack you higher,
16:28they can attack you lower,
16:29so lower abdominal,
16:30lower abdominal here,
16:31so like I said,
16:32the last one,
16:33we did chest,
16:33we had the same technique,
16:34we don't need to change anything,
16:35we're dealing lower abdominal,
16:37so what kind of situation would this be,
16:39maybe,
16:40here we're going to go,
16:41so maybe the guy came up to me,
16:43and just said,
16:44shh,
16:44quiet you,
16:45you know,
16:45just go with me,
16:47and so he's hiding,
16:48his gun,
16:49you see that,
16:50he's hiding his gun,
16:52and maybe,
16:52these people here,
16:53can't see the gun,
16:55and I'm going to say,
16:55you know what,
16:56I just need you to give me your wallet,
16:57or whatever his demands are,
16:58so that lower,
16:59that lower abdominal,
17:00looks kind of weird,
17:01when you're seeing it,
17:02but for teaching purposes today,
17:04I'm just going to teach it from here,
17:05and so my hands,
17:07go into surrender mode,
17:08but you'll notice,
17:08this gun's low,
17:09so my surrender goes low,
17:11see that,
17:12if this gun was higher,
17:13my surrender would come higher,
17:15so lower,
17:16my fingers point down,
17:18my fingers point down,
17:19and what I'm going to do,
17:20is I'm going to hit the inside of his wrist,
17:22I'm going to move my body,
17:23the same way,
17:24so I'm just like,
17:25hitting the wrist,
17:26and moving my body out that way,
17:27at the same time,
17:28so we'll do that same test again,
17:30I'm going to see if Zachary,
17:30can actually go dang,
17:32before I can actually move,
17:33so I got it out of my way,
17:34fast enough,
17:35grab again,
17:36do not put your hand,
17:37in front of the barrel,
17:38remember it's a linear weapon,
17:39so whatever you have in front of it,
17:41hits,
17:41so I grab that barrel again,
17:44I step under the hand,
17:46I take that spin step,
17:47and you notice,
17:48very similar to that knife technique,
17:49we taught,
17:50is that now,
17:51the barrel's pointing back at him,
17:53I have a center lock here,
17:56now,
17:56put your finger in the trigger,
17:58good,
17:59what this becomes,
18:00is a wrist breaking technique,
18:02it's because his grip,
18:03is so committed to holding on to the gun,
18:04he does not want to let go of that gun,
18:06so when I do this,
18:07if it discharges now,
18:09it's not good for him,
18:11but what I'm going to do,
18:12is I'm going to actually use his grip,
18:14and my grip here,
18:16and my hand grip on the gun here,
18:18and I'm going to do this very aggressive,
18:20rip,
18:20in a circular motion here,
18:21what this does,
18:22is it breaks all the ligaments in his hand,
18:24so I'll let him let go,
18:26now we'll do it at the speed,
18:28you do it at the quick speed,
18:29you destroy that wrist,
18:31so we'll do it again,
18:33I come on in,
18:34I redirect it,
18:35I come in here,
18:37boom,
18:37I rip it out with his hand here,
18:39now when I do that,
18:40I'm going to hit the,
18:41take the end,
18:42the back end of the gun,
18:43not the barrel,
18:44the back end,
18:45I'm going to smash it,
18:46right in the back of his skull,
18:48this is going to be like a knockout to me,
18:49boom,
18:50here,
18:50you come on in,
18:51and you push him away,
18:53advance your weapon,
18:54hey,
18:55roll your stunner,
18:56very good,
18:57excellent,
18:57this one,
18:58attackers tag you from behind,
19:00puts you in an awkward position,
19:02because obviously we don't see you from behind,
19:04we just know,
19:05he's making his demands,
19:06he's got a gun in my back,
19:07I can only assume it's a gun,
19:08I can assume,
19:09pretty much,
19:10it's a right handed person,
19:11why,
19:11because over 90% of people are right handed,
19:13there's a different technique for left handed,
19:15but that,
19:15we're just going to be right handed today,
19:17so my hands come up in surrender position,
19:19I can feel his gun's in the lower back,
19:20so my hands are going to go low,
19:21all I'm going to do is I'm going to spin,
19:23and I'm going to move the gun out of the way,
19:25same time my arm hits the gun,
19:27so I'm moving my back,
19:28so right now,
19:29his gun is in my kidney area,
19:32so that's pretty bad for me,
19:33I want to make sure I move that gun out of the way,
19:35and I'm going to hook it,
19:37as I hook it here,
19:38I'm going to step up,
19:38I'm going to strike him here into the face,
19:40so strike him in the face here,
19:42as I strike him in the face here,
19:44I'm going to take this hand here,
19:46and I'm going to pull it across his face,
19:48I'm going to pop his elbow here,
19:49so you notice my chest,
19:51right here,
19:51pop,
19:52so I hypersit his elbow here,
19:54as I hypersit his elbow here,
19:55I'm going to grab on,
19:57to his wrist,
19:59I'm going to grab onto the barrel of the gun,
20:01and this is like the first gun technique,
20:03I'm going to point that gun right back at him,
20:05strike him with my elbow,
20:07point that gun down to the ground,
20:08making sure I don't point it back at my leg,
20:12and strip it away,
20:13and clear away from him,
20:15and that's the last one on gun defense.
