00:00:23ДИНАМИЧНАЯ МУЗЫКА
00:00:43They say home is where the heart is,
00:00:46and for the great British public, that is one place,
00:00:49Gloria Silverstone.
00:00:58It's the noise first.
00:01:01The people, the smell, the rubber-stained ground.
00:01:06A country arriving before dawn with expectations of greatness.
00:01:10A fortress inside a citadel built to stand
00:01:15against adversaries, pretenders, the past.
00:01:21See, this place, it remembers everything.
00:01:27Every person that has returned carrying the weight of it,
00:01:31this home is ours.
00:01:33It's demanded dark nights, threatening dawns,
00:01:38seasons of near misses,
00:01:40but it's also been a refuge, a shelter.
00:01:44It houses a nation waiting for their champion to return,
00:01:48not as the young challenger the crowd first cheered,
00:01:51but as the man who conquered the world.
00:01:58A thousand miles traveled,
00:02:01but still one place calls out to us.
00:02:04Home.
00:02:07So let the grandstands fill
00:02:08as we watch with bated breath,
00:02:11waiting for this spectacle to unfold.
00:02:15Because this place, this story,
00:02:17it is bigger than any of us.
00:02:21It is pressure.
00:02:23It is expectation.
00:02:26It is history.
00:02:31So let the roar of the crowd echo.
00:02:34Let the flags rise in the summer wind,
00:02:36because our champions have returned once more.
00:02:46Last year was an odyssey for Lando Norris
00:02:48on his way to a first world title,
00:02:50and now he returns home to the place he won last year
00:02:54to take his first British Grand Prix.
00:02:56Not the same pace this season,
00:02:58but ever hopeful in front of home support.
00:03:02Lewis Hamilton has revitalized pole for the sprint,
00:03:04but third in qualifying,
00:03:06as he hopes to chase down a tenth victory.
00:03:09No driver has won more at one event.
00:03:13George Russell has never been on the podium at Silverstone.
00:03:16He's struggled so far this weekend.
00:03:18The pole sitter from two years ago
00:03:20could only manage fourth.
00:03:23Because so far,
00:03:24it has all been about
00:03:26the championship leader,
00:03:27Kimi Antonelli.
00:03:29He's been nigh on perfect,
00:03:31sprint win,
00:03:32and a fifth pole of the year.
00:03:36It's the main event,
00:03:37the one every Brit looks forward to
00:03:39every single year.
00:03:41We're at Silverstone,
00:03:42and just over two hours away
00:03:43from the start of the British Grand Prix.
00:03:50Good afternoon, everybody.
00:03:52Welcome to Silverstone.
00:03:54A date in the British Sporting Summer Diary
00:03:57that is inked in every year,
00:03:59on air with an extra special
00:04:01over two-hour build-up today.
00:04:02We'll come on to the reasons why,
00:04:04but a little clue behind us,
00:04:05those Lego go-karts,
00:04:06in a few moments' time.
00:04:08It's great to see Martin Bunnell,
00:04:09Naomi Schiff,
00:04:10our 2009 world champion,
00:04:11and Jenson Button with us
00:04:13for the duration.
00:04:14Over 600,000 fans in this weekend.
00:04:18I've never seen it busier.
00:04:19It's fantastic.
00:04:20I've really enjoyed it.
00:04:22Beautiful racetrack,
00:04:23beautiful day,
00:04:24beautiful race fans.
00:04:26I mean, really,
00:04:26we say it so often,
00:04:28some of the best in the world,
00:04:29but they have been in here
00:04:30since right at the start of Thursday.
00:04:31And what's the most impressive
00:04:32is that year on year,
00:04:33you think it can't get better,
00:04:34but every time you come back
00:04:35to this place,
00:04:36it does get better.
00:04:37There's more fans,
00:04:38there's more things for them to do,
00:04:39and I truly do feel like
00:04:40if F1 had to have a spiritual home,
00:04:42it would truly be here at Silverstone.
00:04:44They're trying,
00:04:44I know what the plan is for Formula 1,
00:04:47is for every single Grand Prix
00:04:48to try and find its own individual identity.
00:04:51The old British festival
00:04:53is something we're rather proud of, isn't it?
00:04:55It's like a festival now
00:04:57that has racing cars to go around.
00:04:59So no, it's really impressive.
00:05:00And what I love about the fans here,
00:05:02they obviously want to support
00:05:03the British drivers,
00:05:04but they're here to support
00:05:05the sport as a whole,
00:05:07every single driver out there,
00:05:08which I think is pretty special.
00:05:09Yeah, and that is one of the good things.
00:05:11And they are a very knowledgeable crowd.
00:05:13I mean, a lot of the places
00:05:14that we go to,
00:05:15particularly the classic tracks,
00:05:17you do get a more discerning fan,
00:05:19shall we say.
00:05:20Is that fair?
00:05:21I wouldn't write off
00:05:22any fans around the world,
00:05:24and we always appreciate their support,
00:05:26but my experience of a few decades here
00:05:28is, yes, the British fans,
00:05:29of course, they'll be waving the Union Jag
00:05:32and cheering the British drivers on,
00:05:33but they also appreciate excellence
00:05:35back in the day
00:05:36with Senna and Schumacher,
00:05:38today with Max Verstappen,
00:05:40and they know a truly great driver
00:05:42when they see one.
00:05:43And one of those is on pole position,
00:05:45Kimi Gantonelli.
00:05:46I mean, look,
00:05:47I think he's broken a few Brits' hearts,
00:05:49but as Jenson rightfully pointed out,
00:05:51I mean, this is a place where,
00:05:53you know,
00:05:53majority of the teams are based in the UK,
00:05:55Aston Martin being just outside
00:05:56the front door, actually,
00:05:57and I think there's plenty
00:05:59of Gantonelli fans around here,
00:06:00and he's done an incredible job
00:06:01throughout the season so far,
00:06:03but yet again,
00:06:04to put it on pole here yesterday
00:06:05and turning it around
00:06:06from Friday, sprint qualifying,
00:06:08really impressive young man.
00:06:09Yeah, we talked about his growth,
00:06:11didn't we, Jenson, yesterday?
00:06:12It's almost session by session.
00:06:13It is,
00:06:14and he's just quick
00:06:16every time he gets in the car.
00:06:18It really is staggering.
00:06:19You know,
00:06:20racetracks are made up of straights
00:06:21and lefts and rights,
00:06:22but we all have
00:06:23sort of difficult tracks.
00:06:25He doesn't seem to at the moment.
00:06:27He's quick everywhere,
00:06:27so they're really impressive,
00:06:29especially for someone
00:06:30that's 19 years old.
00:06:31Here come the drivers
00:06:32on their way out,
00:06:33led by Lewis Hamilton,
00:06:34long tied,
00:06:35his old teammate,
00:06:36Valtteri Bottas,
00:06:37but yeah,
00:06:37for Lewis himself,
00:06:39I mean,
00:06:39you know,
00:06:40there's a support of the crowd.
00:06:41He got pole for the sprint.
00:06:43How he dearly loved
00:06:44that 10th win.
00:06:45They're going to have to operate,
00:06:46who would think,
00:06:47together perhaps,
00:06:48Ferrari,
00:06:48if they can get ahead
00:06:49of Kimi Antonelli
00:06:50at the start.
00:06:51It does look as if
00:06:52it's Ferrari versus Mercedes today,
00:06:54with Mercedes
00:06:54with a slight advantage.
00:06:56If they squabble too much,
00:06:58they'll allow Red Bull
00:06:59and McLaren
00:06:59to join the party,
00:07:00and that's what
00:07:01they've got to avoid.
00:07:02Right,
00:07:02much more chat,
00:07:03but as you can see behind us,
00:07:05after the success
00:07:06of Miami a year ago,
00:07:08when we had teammates
00:07:09in Lego carts,
00:07:11they've now got 22 of them,
00:07:12and this is how
00:07:13they got made.
00:07:14Here's Ted quickly
00:07:15before we get going.
00:07:19Formula One's partnership
00:07:20with the Lego Group
00:07:21just keeps on surprising,
00:07:23building on the bricks
00:07:24of Miami last year.
00:07:25Remember this?
00:07:27Excuse me.
00:07:31That was the most fun
00:07:33drier's parade we've ever had.
00:07:34Then there were
00:07:35the Silverstone trophies.
00:07:36Remember Niko Hulkenberg?
00:07:41Who can forget
00:07:42Max Verstappen's glasses
00:07:43and Terry Crew's
00:07:44pink Cadillac in Vegas?
00:07:47Viva Las Vegas!
00:07:49Well,
00:07:50they've gone and done it again.
00:07:55Now,
00:07:55I think it's generally
00:07:56accepted that
00:07:56that Miami 2025
00:07:57Drivers' Parade
00:07:59was the best ever.
00:08:00There might have been
00:08:01a feeling that the driver
00:08:02not driving
00:08:02and shouting encouragement
00:08:03from the backseat
00:08:04might have felt
00:08:05a little bit left out.
00:08:06The solution?
00:08:07Give each driver
00:08:08their own
00:08:09Lego go-kart.
00:08:11The drivers
00:08:12were really excited
00:08:13with what we did last time,
00:08:14and the fans requested,
00:08:16basically.
00:08:17So we wanted to,
00:08:18you know,
00:08:18deliver to the fans
00:08:19and we wanted to give
00:08:20every driver
00:08:21his own mini F1 car.
00:08:23So the race in Miami
00:08:24was amazing.
00:08:25It was a really exciting
00:08:26moment to live through
00:08:28and, yeah,
00:08:29I mean,
00:08:30incredible,
00:08:31surreal still.
00:08:32Just makes you smile.
00:08:33It makes me smile
00:08:34every time
00:08:35I just think about it.
00:08:37The sheer numbers
00:08:38are mind-boggling.
00:08:3922 go-karts
00:08:41and they're each
00:08:42made out
00:08:42of 28,300 Lego bricks.
00:08:4620 specialists
00:08:47to build them,
00:08:48to design
00:08:48and engineer.
00:08:49They weigh
00:08:50280 kilograms,
00:08:52including 65 kilograms
00:08:54of Lego bricks.
00:08:55The complexity
00:08:56is absolutely remarkable.
00:08:58First of all,
00:08:59we definitely look at,
00:09:00you know,
00:09:00how the whole car
00:09:02will look.
00:09:03We like to include
00:09:04as much Lego DNA,
00:09:05design DNA,
00:09:06as we can.
00:09:07We like to go off
00:09:09of real Lego elements.
00:09:11We will build it
00:09:11digitally in a small scale
00:09:13and then upscale it up.
00:09:14At Silverstone,
00:09:15if they, you know,
00:09:16race each other,
00:09:17there's a bit of contact,
00:09:18that's okay with you?
00:09:20I mean,
00:09:20that's okay with us.
00:09:21We've done everything
00:09:22in our power
00:09:23to, you know,
00:09:23take all the precautions
00:09:24and the safety features
00:09:25in the mini F1 cars.
00:09:28So, yeah,
00:09:29hopefully everything
00:09:30goes fine.
00:09:31Right,
00:09:32they're all being made
00:09:32and finished
00:09:33in the factory upstairs,
00:09:34so we've come down
00:09:34to the car park
00:09:35to give them a go.
00:09:36They just look fantastic.
00:09:38Seatbelts,
00:09:38the lot,
00:09:4030 kph.
00:09:41Nice.
00:09:42Okay, right.
00:09:43It's lights out
00:09:44and away Lego again.
00:09:46Woo-hoo!
00:09:47Oh, yeah,
00:09:48it's got some poke.
00:09:57Woo-hoo!
00:09:59Woo-hoo!
00:10:00Don't crash it now.
00:10:04Wow.
00:10:05Love it.
00:10:06Okay,
00:10:07well, listen,
00:10:07we've seen how they're made.
00:10:09I know how they go.
00:10:10The drivers
00:10:10are going to absolutely love this.
00:10:11Next stop,
00:10:12Silverstone.
00:10:21And they're off.
00:10:22They took us by surprise.
00:10:24But this could take a while.
00:10:25This isn't 200 mph.
00:10:26Now,
00:10:27I calculated it
00:10:28on the length of this lap.
00:10:305.9 kilometers
00:10:31at 25 kilometers an hour.
00:10:33If they take the racing line,
00:10:34it's 14 minutes
00:10:35and eight seconds
00:10:36it's going to take.
00:10:37I don't think
00:10:38they'll take the racing line.
00:10:40Will they drive flat out
00:10:41or will they cheat like crazy
00:10:43and go down the old pit lane
00:10:44or cut across Stoke Corner?
00:10:45At the moment,
00:10:46they're remarkably well behaved.
00:10:48What we don't need
00:10:48are bricks flying everywhere
00:10:50and then the marshals
00:10:51are out to sweep them up.
00:10:52Well,
00:10:53we had a very,
00:10:53very quick start
00:10:54from Lando Norris
00:10:55and I thought
00:10:56that they might behave themselves
00:10:57a little bit more
00:10:57than in Miami,
00:10:58but actually,
00:10:59having just seen that start,
00:11:00I don't think
00:11:01they're going to behave
00:11:01themselves at all.
00:11:02so I can imagine
00:11:03there'll be some bricks
00:11:04all over this lap to collect.
00:11:06Yeah,
00:11:06well,
00:11:07we haven't got to a
00:11:08court,
00:11:09so this might take a while,
00:11:11but also,
00:11:11I think that's when
00:11:12the action's going to start.
00:11:13Turn three,
00:11:13a little bit tighter.
00:11:14I think we'll see
00:11:15some bricks flying then,
00:11:16hopefully.
00:11:1722 big kids,
00:11:18really.
00:11:19Well,
00:11:19many of them are still kids,
00:11:20but they'll be enjoying this.
00:11:22Talking of which,
00:11:23let's head up to commentary
00:11:25because I think
00:11:25this is vitally important,
00:11:27Crofty,
00:11:28and that you talk us through this.
00:11:30It might be easier
00:11:30to commentate on this.
00:11:31This is a bit slower.
00:11:33Yeah.
00:11:33To be fair,
00:11:34there's just as many drivers
00:11:35in close proximity
00:11:36as we had at the start
00:11:37of the sprint race yesterday,
00:11:39but it's a tad slower
00:11:41going through the farm corner currently.
00:11:43George Russell off the line
00:11:44brilliantly, though.
00:11:45He was.
00:11:46Lights out,
00:11:46and away we let go,
00:11:48and go, go, go,
00:11:49George Russell.
00:11:49Ted already got you on that one,
00:11:51the away we let go,
00:11:53but I mean,
00:11:54they all cheated off the line,
00:11:55clearly,
00:11:56because they beat us
00:11:57in commentary,
00:11:57but look,
00:11:58they've got the boss
00:11:59out in front.
00:12:00Yeah,
00:12:00but he didn't get the memo
00:12:01that it's not like a normal cart,
00:12:03it's a Lego cart.
00:12:04Yeah, what's going on there?
00:12:05Someone not have actually
00:12:06added to the amount
00:12:07of bricks on the show
00:12:08out there.
00:12:09Oh, we're on board
00:12:10with Alvin Lindblad.
00:12:11Don't use your phone
00:12:12while you're driving.
00:12:13You're not allowed to do that.
00:12:14Oh, here we go.
00:12:16This is what we expected.
00:12:17Already.
00:12:18Colopinto
00:12:20is following George Russell.
00:12:21They're all going off the track.
00:12:23George Russell,
00:12:23Ollie Bearman.
00:12:24Even Ben Salim,
00:12:25the FIA president,
00:12:26they're going over the gravel.
00:12:27They're going to get stuck
00:12:27in the gravel.
00:12:28They're all beached in the gravel.
00:12:29They're beached in the gravel.
00:12:30Ridiculous.
00:12:31What has happened?
00:12:32Alex Albon
00:12:33and Kimi Antonelli
00:12:35and Pierre Gasly
00:12:36and Franco Colopinto
00:12:36and Charles Leclerc
00:12:38and Mohammed Bin Salim
00:12:39who should know better,
00:12:41really,
00:12:41as he's the president,
00:12:42have all beached their carts
00:12:44into the gravel
00:12:45at the loop.
00:12:47I mean,
00:12:49I'm surprised.
00:12:51Oh, sorry.
00:12:52Right.
00:12:52That Carlos Sainz
00:12:53is having a lift
00:12:54with his mate Lando Norris.
00:12:56Hulkenberg smashes
00:12:57into the back.
00:12:57No one is hanging
00:12:58onto the side of the go-kart.
00:13:00Come on, Nico.
00:13:00And I've read
00:13:01the briefing notes, yeah?
00:13:02Yeah, yeah.
00:13:03And it says,
00:13:03you're asked not to make contact,
00:13:05bump or nudge
00:13:06other go-karts on the track.
00:13:08And it also says,
00:13:09you must not go over any curbs
00:13:11and stick to the racetrack
00:13:12at all times.
00:13:14One thing I absolutely adore
00:13:16about Formula One drivers
00:13:17is when they can have some fun
00:13:19and when they can absolutely
00:13:21disregard the rules
00:13:22in having that fun,
00:13:23they will do so.
00:13:24But who would have thought
00:13:25taking this go-kart
00:13:27over the gravel trap
00:13:28would be a good idea
00:13:29that it wouldn't get beached?
00:13:31Silly idea.
00:13:31Oh, here we go.
00:13:32Bumping and barging.
00:13:33Is that Hadjar and Behrman?
00:13:35Oh, Behrman's.
00:13:36Oh, he's the instigator.
00:13:37Look.
00:13:38Aggressive, William Lawson.
00:13:39Is this a sign of things
00:13:40to come in the race today?
00:13:42Let's hope not.
00:13:42Look, here's Fernando Alonso.
00:13:44He doesn't want to get involved
00:13:45with all the bumping and barging.
00:13:47He's like,
00:13:47I'm going to make a...
00:13:48Lewis is texting.
00:13:49Yeah, Lewis is...
00:13:50Lewis is on the message service.
00:13:53Like, what am I doing here?
00:13:55And Oli Behrman's
00:13:57forcing Lawson off the track
00:14:00with Isaac Hadjar.
00:14:02Innocent.
00:14:03Oh, Limblad's off now as well.
00:14:04And they're still trying to get
00:14:06those carts out of the gravel.
00:14:08Oh, at least he's helping others
00:14:10to get going first.
00:14:11Oh, he's worked in months,
00:14:13quite frankly.
00:14:13Who's gone wide there?
00:14:15Is that...
00:14:15I think that...
00:14:16Is that...
00:14:16I did think it was Perez at first,
00:14:18but that's a red-ball-coloured car,
00:14:20isn't it?
00:14:20It might be Max
00:14:20that's decided to go
00:14:22and wave to the fans.
00:14:23Ocon enjoying this time
00:14:24out in front.
00:14:25As we head to Brooklyn's,
00:14:29616,000 bricks
00:14:30just over,
00:14:31making up all these go-karts
00:14:33with a top speed
00:14:34of 25 kilometres an hour.
00:14:36And on the inside,
00:14:38Oscar Piastri,
00:14:40before Oli Behrman
00:14:41could see him coming,
00:14:42has gone past.
00:14:43Whoever that...
00:14:44Is that Max
00:14:45going the wrong way round
00:14:45the circuit?
00:14:47No.
00:14:47Right.
00:14:48OK, we're now cutting
00:14:48more corners.
00:14:50Ones over the kerb.
00:14:51Yeah, that wasn't in the notes,
00:14:53was it?
00:14:53I think Martin Brandl's prediction
00:14:55of, what,
00:14:55a 20-minute lap time
00:14:56because they're stuck
00:14:57at 25 kilometres an hour.
00:14:58It's certainly not
00:14:59the 5.9 kilometre circuit
00:15:01that we thought
00:15:02it was going to be.
00:15:03Yeah.
00:15:04Albon looks like
00:15:04he's got a Lego brick
00:15:05stuck under his bottom.
00:15:07He doesn't look
00:15:08very comfortable.
00:15:08That is for sure.
00:15:10Well, we've got
00:15:11three different circuits
00:15:12here at Silverstone.
00:15:13I think we're making
00:15:13up another one
00:15:14with these go-karts.
00:15:18Where are they going?
00:15:19He's going straight
00:15:20to the fans.
00:15:21He wants to go
00:15:22and wave to the fans,
00:15:23taking the outside line.
00:15:25Lawson.
00:15:25And SM, by the way,
00:15:27stands for silly mode.
00:15:28That's what we're...
00:15:29Not straight line mode,
00:15:30silly mode.
00:15:30Oh, no, they go down
00:15:30the old pit lane.
00:15:31Why are they doing that?
00:15:32To shorten the track,
00:15:34Crofty.
00:15:34Of course,
00:15:35because then they can
00:15:36overtake and get
00:15:36a bit further ahead.
00:15:38I mean,
00:15:40it's genius.
00:15:41Who are these cars like?
00:15:42Is this the F2 cars?
00:15:44They're all in park further.
00:15:46Oh, yes.
00:15:47So, watch yourselves
00:15:48as you go through
00:15:49the old pit lane, chaps.
00:15:51Now, for all the F2
00:15:52drivers watching on,
00:15:53this could be you one day
00:15:55when you're a big,
00:15:57grown-up, sensible
00:15:57F1 driver.
00:16:00Yeah, and then you could get
00:16:01to do things like this.
00:16:02Back onto the track
00:16:03comes the Red Bull.
00:16:04There's the Marshalls
00:16:05getting a bird's eye view.
00:16:06Now we've got problems.
00:16:07Got a pincer.
00:16:09Is the engine gone?
00:16:10The engine's gone.
00:16:11Smoke.
00:16:12Smoke out of the back.
00:16:13Or is his tyre rubbing?
00:16:15Yeah.
00:16:16I think it's all the tyres.
00:16:17Yeah, they're battery-powered.
00:16:18There's no internal combustion.
00:16:20Well, they can still smoke,
00:16:21can't they?
00:16:21I mean, it's very bad news
00:16:22if an electric motor
00:16:23starts smoking, but...
00:16:24Good point.
00:16:25The Marshalls, by the way,
00:16:26thank you for everything
00:16:27you've done this weekend
00:16:29and every weekend
00:16:30here to make sure
00:16:32that we can go
00:16:33rope motor racing
00:16:33and we can run these events.
00:16:35And you get the bird's eye view
00:16:37and probably get up close
00:16:38and personal.
00:16:39Liam Lawson,
00:16:40that wasn't a good idea
00:16:41to go on the grass.
00:16:41That's really, really bumpy.
00:16:44It was Hajar
00:16:45who was driving backwards
00:16:47around the track, yeah.
00:16:48Lawson's taken to a bit of rallying.
00:16:50I don't know if he's got any feelings,
00:16:51but they might just have shaken loose.
00:16:53I mean, they were all complaining
00:16:55of last year's generation of cars
00:16:56being harsh on their backs,
00:16:57but surely that's worse.
00:17:00Yeah, Liam,
00:17:01you've got 52 laps
00:17:03of a Grand Prix to come.
00:17:04Take it steady, my friend.
00:17:06Take it steady.
00:17:07Where is he going now?
00:17:10He's getting a bit of heat in his tyres.
00:17:11Why aren't the tyres made of Lego?
00:17:13That would have been
00:17:14so much more appropriate, right?
00:17:15Maybe they would have got out
00:17:16the gravel if they were made of Lego.
00:17:17Good point.
00:17:18Nico Hülkenberg,
00:17:19podium finisher, of course,
00:17:21here last year.
00:17:22His foot is going nowhere
00:17:23near that brake pedal.
00:17:24He's making sure
00:17:26that that's not going to happen.
00:17:27Well, to be fair,
00:17:28he can take cops
00:17:29at 25 miles an hour,
00:17:31and normally you take it
00:17:32at 177 miles an hour,
00:17:33so I'd hope
00:17:33that no brakes are involved.
00:17:35Esteban Ocon's getting a slipstream
00:17:37behind Fernando Alonso.
00:17:39Lewis is still messaging.
00:17:41And Valtteri Bottas is like,
00:17:43yeah, I've seen all this before.
00:17:44Behind his old teammate.
00:17:45Yes.
00:17:47Oscar Piastri with a few waves there.
00:17:50Oh, yes, yes.
00:17:51They were also told to wear seatbelts
00:17:52at all times, weren't they?
00:17:54Really?
00:17:54Yeah, no, really.
00:17:55They were.
00:17:56That's in there.
00:17:56See, look.
00:17:57Kimmy's got his belts on.
00:17:58Good lad.
00:17:59Four-point highness,
00:18:01which was mandatory.
00:18:03Mohamed Benzalayan
00:18:04has got going again.
00:18:05George Russell's cart,
00:18:08well, it doesn't need a seat.
00:18:09It doesn't need seatbelts.
00:18:11He's decided to sit
00:18:12on the side pods for a while
00:18:14and wave.
00:18:15Mercedes in blue
00:18:16this weekend.
00:18:18Just to confuse everyone,
00:18:20tell you what,
00:18:21while George Russell is waving,
00:18:22shall we hear from him?
00:18:23He spoke to Ted
00:18:24just before he got
00:18:25into his go-kart.
00:18:27What about the Grand Prix?
00:18:31Immediate target,
00:18:32the Ferraris?
00:18:33Yeah, for sure.
00:18:34I think it's,
00:18:35race start's going to be important.
00:18:37I think Ferrari
00:18:37are definitely fast.
00:18:39However,
00:18:40we've got the straight line speed
00:18:41over them
00:18:42and sort of
00:18:44better energy deployment.
00:18:45So,
00:18:46I hope I can get through.
00:18:48I hope I can fight
00:18:49for the podium
00:18:50and sort of take it to Kimmy.
00:18:51But I also know
00:18:52Lewis and Charles
00:18:54I'm going to
00:18:55let their positions
00:18:56go by easily.
00:18:57Okay,
00:18:58but final thought,
00:18:58there's an interesting thing
00:18:59with the tyres.
00:18:59They're behaving themselves.
00:19:00They're very low degradation.
00:19:01Yes.
00:19:02And so,
00:19:02can you do something different?
00:19:03Will the team allow you
00:19:04to do something different
00:19:05to Kimmy?
00:19:06Like start on,
00:19:06I mean,
00:19:07it's all one stops.
00:19:08Yeah.
00:19:08But could you do
00:19:09a different tyre thing
00:19:09if the team allow you
00:19:10to do that?
00:19:11Yeah,
00:19:11I could do.
00:19:12But we're making
00:19:14the best decision
00:19:14for my race.
00:19:15So,
00:19:16the tyre
00:19:17I'll be starting on,
00:19:19whatever that may be,
00:19:20is going to be
00:19:20what's going to help me
00:19:22get the best result possible.
00:19:23I think we need
00:19:23to sneak through here.
00:19:24So,
00:19:25yeah,
00:19:25we're going for it.
00:19:25Good.
00:19:26Thank you.
00:19:26Thanks very much.
00:19:28George Russell
00:19:29and Ted Kravitz,
00:19:30a few moments ago,
00:19:32we've just seen
00:19:32a blinding bit
00:19:34of experience there
00:19:35from Valtteri Bottas.
00:19:36Alonso went off the track.
00:19:37Esteban Ocon's like,
00:19:38wherever you go,
00:19:39I'm going to go.
00:19:40Lewis is like,
00:19:40I don't really care
00:19:41where I go.
00:19:42And Valtteri's like,
00:19:42no,
00:19:43I'm going to stick
00:19:43to the racing line.
00:19:44And it made him stick.
00:19:45I've got a sneaking suspicion,
00:19:47Crofty,
00:19:47and we might have to review
00:19:48this on the Skypad
00:19:49if we've got footage.
00:19:51I think Bottas
00:19:51might have gone straight
00:19:52over Maggots and Beckets.
00:19:54Really?
00:19:54Yeah,
00:19:54that's what I think.
00:19:55And then I think Alonso's line
00:19:57was to cut across
00:19:58on the exit of Chapel
00:20:00onto the hangar straight.
00:20:01But I think Bottas
00:20:02had them all covered
00:20:02by going straight on
00:20:04across the ground.
00:20:05Or is there a gravel trap
00:20:06in between?
00:20:06I think there's a gravel trap.
00:20:07Well,
00:20:07somehow he's avoided that.
00:20:09I don't think the stewards
00:20:10are going to want to know
00:20:11any of all this.
00:20:13Uh-oh.
00:20:13Uh-oh.
00:20:14What are we trying to do here?
00:20:16Is Fernando trying to get
00:20:17into Valtteri's cards?
00:20:18I think they're trying to
00:20:19steal Lego pieces
00:20:20off of each other's cards.
00:20:21I'm going to dismantle you
00:20:23piece by piece
00:20:23down the hangar straight.
00:20:26Yeah.
00:20:27Well,
00:20:27he started off at 616,000.
00:20:29I don't think we're going
00:20:30to end with it.
00:20:31What?
00:20:31He's pushing it back.
00:20:33Is he trying to get
00:20:33to make the overtake?
00:20:36Valtteri Bottas
00:20:38has literally been mugged
00:20:39down the hangar straight
00:20:40by Fernando Alonso.
00:20:42Oh,
00:20:42the old Wiley Fox.
00:20:43Look at that.
00:20:45Pressing his brake pedal.
00:20:46Fernando's like,
00:20:4725 years ago
00:20:48I made my debut here.
00:20:50I've got a bit more experience.
00:20:51There's your pole sitter
00:20:52for today,
00:20:53Kimi Antonelli.
00:20:54What a weekend
00:20:54he is having.
00:20:56Arvin Lindblad
00:20:57still recording
00:20:58every single
00:20:59turn of the wheel.
00:21:00Is it just me crying?
00:21:02Oh, no!
00:21:02What's it?
00:21:02Is his phone just
00:21:03chopped out of his cart?
00:21:04No,
00:21:04I think a bit of brick
00:21:05just fell off.
00:21:06I think a bit of brick
00:21:07just fell off his cart.
00:21:08Definitely something fell off.
00:21:10Is it just me
00:21:11or does everyone else
00:21:13want at least one
00:21:14of the drivers
00:21:14to make contact
00:21:15with Mohammed Ben Saliham?
00:21:17I think...
00:21:18I'm amazed.
00:21:18I'm waiting for that
00:21:19that moment.
00:21:22Who's brave enough?
00:21:23Yes.
00:21:24Remember that fine
00:21:24your stewards gave me
00:21:26last year?
00:21:27Right.
00:21:27Payback.
00:21:30Lando stand
00:21:31waiting for Lando
00:21:33who might well stop
00:21:33by the Lando stand
00:21:34to say hello.
00:21:35Oli Behrman's steering
00:21:36is completely gone
00:21:39and Arvin Lindblad's like,
00:21:40do we do this every year?
00:21:42I mean,
00:21:42first time
00:21:43at the British Grand Prix
00:21:44every year?
00:21:52I thought he was doing
00:21:53a bit of commentary
00:21:54earlier on as well.
00:21:55Yeah, it's one for the gram,
00:21:56isn't it?
00:21:57It's one for the gram.
00:21:59Well, the Lando stand
00:22:00they're going to get
00:22:01two for the price
00:22:02of one here, aren't they?
00:22:03He's got Lando
00:22:04and his old mate
00:22:05Carlos Sainz.
00:22:07And Oli Behrman.
00:22:08They might all stop.
00:22:09You never know.
00:22:11And we might just hear
00:22:11from the drivers too.
00:22:13What a great sight.
00:22:15Over 16,000 fans
00:22:17in that grandstand
00:22:19which has been extended
00:22:19and extended and extended
00:22:21as more tickets were sold.
00:22:23Is that a little bit
00:22:24of a smile from Piastri?
00:22:26I think so.
00:22:27I definitely think it's a smile.
00:22:28Right, now where are we going?
00:22:30Ocon, Bottas, Alonso
00:22:32making their way to the pit lane.
00:22:33That is really bumpy down there
00:22:35and there's no way through.
00:22:37This is going to hurt, boys,
00:22:38if you don't lift off.
00:22:39That'll be all right.
00:22:40Down they go.
00:22:41Alonso's trying to get
00:22:42to the line first.
00:22:43Do you know what?
00:22:44starting last for the Grand Prix.
00:22:46He wins the go-kart race.
00:22:48From last to first,
00:22:50Fernando Alonso
00:22:51rolling back the years.
00:22:54Experience counts, Crofty,
00:22:56when it comes to Lego go-karts.
00:22:58Oh, look at that
00:22:59for teamwork.
00:23:00Yeah, I'll push it a little bit.
00:23:02Dump, jump, jump.
00:23:04Yeah, my battery,
00:23:05my battery went.
00:23:07I think that's what Max is saying.
00:23:08Liam, my battery.
00:23:09It was all about the battery.
00:23:12Oh, fantastic.
00:23:13Simon Lazenby,
00:23:14down on the grid.
00:23:15We have a winner
00:23:16and his name is Fernando.
00:23:18I want you just to take this in
00:23:19for a moment.
00:23:19Just take this in.
00:23:21There is a hell of a lot of yellow,
00:23:23like this.
00:23:30What was your feeling
00:23:31when you came around the corner
00:23:32on your little Lego machine
00:23:33and saw 16,000 people
00:23:36chanting your name?
00:23:37It was beautiful.
00:23:38I mean, even Carlos,
00:23:39Carlos was riding alongside me
00:23:40the whole lap
00:23:41and he was like,
00:23:42oh, my God.
00:23:46It's unbelievable.
00:23:47It's been the brightest
00:23:48it's been all week.
00:23:49So it's amazing
00:23:50to see so many people here.
00:23:51Thank you all for coming.
00:23:54I'm shaking.
00:23:55I'm shaking a little.
00:23:56I'm shaking.
00:23:57This is crazy.
00:23:57It's amazing.
00:23:58What happened to Carlos?
00:23:59Why did he have to jump on board?
00:24:00They all had a little excursion
00:24:02and he went to the gravel
00:24:03and I had to save him today.
00:24:05So he owes me
00:24:05later down the line.
00:24:08I don't know
00:24:09what I'm going to say here.
00:24:09This is just nuts.
00:24:13It is surreal.
00:24:16So what chance of you
00:24:19creating a massive party
00:24:20here today?
00:24:21Yeah.
00:24:21You went from six to third
00:24:23in the sprint.
00:24:24You can emulate that again
00:24:25here in the race,
00:24:26can't you?
00:24:27Get on the podium.
00:24:29Uh-huh.
00:24:30Uh-huh.
00:24:30Yeah.
00:24:32We're going to accept
00:24:33nothing but a win today.
00:24:34So that's going to be the...
00:24:38I don't know.
00:24:39We'll see.
00:24:39We'll see.
00:24:39Maybe that's a bit unrealistic
00:24:40but I'll put on a good show.
00:24:42We had a good show yesterday.
00:24:43P3 was amazing.
00:24:45I had a lot of support
00:24:46from you guys.
00:24:46So today is going to be
00:24:47even better.
00:24:48Fingers crossed.
00:24:48And it's getting warmer.
00:24:50The sun is out
00:24:51for you today
00:24:52and the crowd
00:24:53is a record-breaking crowd.
00:24:55I mean,
00:24:56570,000 people
00:24:57across the weekend.
00:24:59168,000 today.
00:25:00That is bonkers.
00:25:02Can you feel their energy?
00:25:03Can you harness that energy?
00:25:05I can.
00:25:06I mean,
00:25:06it's just...
00:25:07It's a beautiful feeling.
00:25:08This is unlike anything
00:25:10normal in life.
00:25:11So it's...
00:25:12I really...
00:25:12I don't think everyone
00:25:13appreciates how much
00:25:14this all means to someone
00:25:16to stand here
00:25:16and see so many people.
00:25:17It's really beautiful.
00:25:19So I'll do my best today.
00:25:21They look like
00:25:22they've already got
00:25:23their t-shirts
00:25:23but I'm going to get you
00:25:24to fire out some more.
00:25:25How are you feeling about that?
00:25:26I love it.
00:25:27It's the best part
00:25:27of the weekend.
00:25:39Nice touch from Lando and Carlos.
00:25:41Little Lego-based
00:25:42Senna Mansell moment
00:25:44from back in the day.
00:25:461991.
00:25:47I blew.
00:25:47Actually,
00:25:48no coincidence
00:25:49that three of those
00:25:50that were out in Q1
00:25:52crossed the line first there.
00:25:53These are racing drivers.
00:25:54After all, Jenson,
00:25:56they wanted to win
00:25:57and Fernando,
00:25:57the wily old fox,
00:25:58did so.
00:25:59Look at that.
00:26:00Fernando taking the win.
00:26:01That was pretty awesome.
00:26:02And Silverstone British Grand Prix.
00:26:03Good on him.
00:26:04You'll claim that one.
00:26:05On the mental piece.
00:26:06Did you see
00:26:07Lewis was on the track
00:26:08looking like he got it
00:26:08by miles
00:26:09and three carts
00:26:11appeared from stage right
00:26:12from nowhere
00:26:13and beat him over the line.
00:26:15I think that's why
00:26:15he left quick.
00:26:16Here we go.
00:26:18This is what I want it, friend.
00:26:20I mean,
00:26:21it's kind of in the nature
00:26:22of the drivers
00:26:22to try to sort of
00:26:24find a gray area
00:26:24in the rules,
00:26:25but here they were
00:26:26absolutely not taking
00:26:27the rules into consideration.
00:26:28It's a green area
00:26:29they found, isn't it?
00:26:30Yeah, that was a green area.
00:26:30They found the greenest area
00:26:31to get around
00:26:32and, yeah,
00:26:32you know what?
00:26:33Who to blame them?
00:26:34Just a bit of fun.
00:26:35No such thing
00:26:35as track limits
00:26:36in this,
00:26:37but, yeah,
00:26:37a few of them beached,
00:26:39which was nice.
00:26:39Led in there
00:26:40by the FIA president.
00:26:42Into the gravel,
00:26:43yeah,
00:26:43that was,
00:26:45that was never going to work,
00:26:46was it?
00:26:46But they were like lemmings,
00:26:48weren't they?
00:26:49They all,
00:26:49one went that way
00:26:50so they all thought
00:26:51we've got to cut this as well.
00:26:52Cheap.
00:26:53They know how gravel works, right?
00:26:54Yeah, exactly.
00:26:55They're normally hitting it
00:26:56a bit faster though, aren't they?
00:26:57So that might be why
00:26:58they get through it.
00:26:59Right.
00:26:59Right, there we go.
00:27:01A bit of fun, obviously.
00:27:02Brilliant stuff
00:27:03to get started here
00:27:04at the British Grand Prix,
00:27:05but in case you've missed
00:27:06any of the weekend,
00:27:07here's a wrap-up
00:27:08of what has happened so far.
00:27:14It's such a privilege
00:27:15and prosperous
00:27:15to be here
00:27:16representing the country.
00:27:19Massive round of applause
00:27:20for Arvid Lindblad
00:27:22as he arrives,
00:27:23here and still soon,
00:27:25taking his,
00:27:25taking home to the world.
00:27:28I am so happy,
00:27:30so, so happy.
00:27:32I'll give it absolutely
00:27:32everything for these fans.
00:27:34Lewis Hamilton's on
00:27:35Polish lights out
00:27:37and away we go
00:27:38and Hamilton gets away well.
00:27:40Antonelli just beginning
00:27:41to close on Lewis Hamilton.
00:27:44Here goes Kimi Antonelli.
00:27:48Let's fly a pass.
00:27:49He's got no power.
00:27:51Kimi Antonelli
00:27:52wins the Silverstone Sprint.
00:27:54Let's go.
00:27:55Let's go.
00:27:56In control all the way.
00:27:59Well, if you've recovered
00:28:00from the Sprint
00:28:01and you've had a little ride down,
00:28:03shall we get going
00:28:04with the main event?
00:28:05Can Lewis Hamilton
00:28:06have a second bowl
00:28:07this weekend?
00:28:08I see no reason why not.
00:28:09That is George Russell,
00:28:11I think,
00:28:11out of qualifying here.
00:28:13He has got it going.
00:28:14I've never looked there
00:28:15in my whole career.
00:28:17Franco Colopinto
00:28:18missed out on key two
00:28:19and that is where he lost it.
00:28:20Completely lost it.
00:28:23Give me Antonelli
00:28:24with his first time.
00:28:26He just can't slow the car down.
00:28:29Oh, this is not a disaster.
00:28:31Oh, this is not a disaster.
00:28:32Antonelli goes quickest.
00:28:36So the clock has started
00:28:38and we are into Q3.
00:28:43Kimi Antonelli,
00:28:44provisional pole
00:28:45with a 1.28.1.
00:28:48Charles Leclerc
00:28:49to the line
00:28:49on the front row
00:28:51ahead of George Russell.
00:28:52It's P3
00:28:53for Lewis Hamilton
00:28:55and it's the big five poles
00:28:57for Kimi Antonelli.
00:28:59Yes, Kimi.
00:28:59That's pole man.
00:29:04Yeah, Kimi is the story
00:29:06but he's been the story
00:29:07of the season.
00:29:07We've already discussed him.
00:29:09Let's talk about
00:29:09his teammate though, George.
00:29:11His best ever result
00:29:12is fifth here
00:29:13so never on the podium
00:29:14and just a way off
00:29:16and scratching his head
00:29:17again yesterday, Martin.
00:29:18I think they're pretty unique
00:29:20these latest 2026
00:29:22Formula 1 cars
00:29:22with all the energy deployment
00:29:24and you either find the way
00:29:26very quickly
00:29:26or you have to build up to it.
00:29:27I think we're seeing
00:29:28Charles Leclerc
00:29:29do the same thing
00:29:30as George Russell
00:29:32just slightly struggling
00:29:33with them.
00:29:34That was odd.
00:29:35We had a lock up
00:29:36and then I think
00:29:37the engine was still
00:29:38pushing him forward as well.
00:29:40He was lucky
00:29:40to get out of the gravel,
00:29:41wasn't he?
00:29:42It could have been
00:29:42an early pass for him.
00:29:43Yeah.
00:29:44And also that there was
00:29:45not that much damage.
00:29:46I mean the fact
00:29:46that he got back
00:29:47and just changed the nose
00:29:48and then still get a chance
00:29:49to try to fight
00:29:50for the pole position
00:29:51but it seems like
00:29:52he's lacking more
00:29:52than just that mistake.
00:29:53I mean he doesn't feel
00:29:54comfortable in these, does he?
00:29:55It doesn't look like
00:29:56he's able to do his thing
00:29:57in this car.
00:29:58We'll see what he can do
00:29:59in the race.
00:30:00But he was lucky
00:30:01in the gravel
00:30:02because there's usually
00:30:03a harder section
00:30:04where they take
00:30:04the service vehicles
00:30:05and there's been
00:30:06so much sun lately
00:30:07the gravel's baked
00:30:08and instead of going down
00:30:10and making a little
00:30:11castle of gravel
00:30:12he got out.
00:30:14And key for him
00:30:15because at least
00:30:16he's in play
00:30:17on the grid.
00:30:17He liked Max though
00:30:18at Jensen
00:30:19just struggling
00:30:20with top end speed.
00:30:21That seems to be
00:30:22the complaints
00:30:22that they've got
00:30:23which is actually
00:30:23quite surprising
00:30:24when you look
00:30:24at the Mercedes.
00:30:25Yeah but I don't know
00:30:26if that's actually
00:30:27a power unit issue
00:30:28in terms of
00:30:29just not producing
00:30:29as much power
00:30:30or if it's just
00:30:31the deployments
00:30:31not working
00:30:32the right way
00:30:32so we probably
00:30:34won't ever know
00:30:34but it'd be interesting
00:30:35to see how
00:30:36if they've been able
00:30:37to improve it
00:30:37from qualifying.
00:30:39Yeah.
00:30:39Talk about Max though
00:30:41I mean it's not often
00:30:42actually although
00:30:43Isak Azhar's done
00:30:44very well this year
00:30:45I think that's the
00:30:46third time he's out
00:30:46qualified his teammate
00:30:48and showing him
00:30:49a clean pair of heels
00:30:50yesterday but Max
00:30:50again he was just like
00:30:51there was something wrong
00:30:52that he felt that
00:30:53was going on with
00:30:54the engine early on
00:30:55and that was
00:30:55that was baked in
00:30:56for all of qualifying.
00:30:57But let's not forget
00:30:58that in Austria
00:30:59just you know
00:31:00a week ago
00:31:01he was second
00:31:02on the podium
00:31:03so you know
00:31:03there is some performance
00:31:05in that car
00:31:06and they do have
00:31:07the most
00:31:07the fastest
00:31:08let's say
00:31:09internal combustion
00:31:10engine
00:31:11which isn't
00:31:11the whole power unit
00:31:12they have suffered
00:31:13some reliability issues
00:31:14as well throughout
00:31:15the season so far
00:31:15but besides that
00:31:16you can tell that
00:31:17Max is just not
00:31:18enjoying his experience
00:31:19in the car
00:31:20I mean we've heard
00:31:21more positive words
00:31:21from him lately
00:31:22but yesterday
00:31:23it felt like a step
00:31:24back in the direction
00:31:25where he was just
00:31:26unhappy with everything
00:31:27that was going on
00:31:28with the car.
00:31:29I think at the moment
00:31:30and certainly around
00:31:31this layout
00:31:32it's not favouring
00:31:33a brave driver
00:31:34attacking the
00:31:36super high speed corners
00:31:37but also
00:31:38the biggest problem
00:31:39both Red Bull drivers
00:31:40have got
00:31:40getting it off
00:31:41the start line
00:31:42and not losing
00:31:43a hat full of places
00:31:44before they even
00:31:44get up and running.
00:31:46Would it be fair enough
00:31:47to say though
00:31:48because he's got a
00:31:49break clause
00:31:49in his contract
00:31:50which he can exercise
00:31:51in August
00:31:52he doesn't actually
00:31:53have to announce
00:31:53to the team
00:31:54if he has done that
00:31:55and he's taken that
00:31:56option until October
00:31:57that's if he finishes
00:31:58outside
00:31:59or he's outside
00:32:00of the top two
00:32:01at that break
00:32:02he needs to go in
00:32:04and believe that
00:32:04this is a Red Bull
00:32:05after those upgrades
00:32:06that can consistently
00:32:07compete
00:32:08does he not
00:32:08or do you think
00:32:09that he will get
00:32:10itchy feet?
00:32:11Yeah I think the team
00:32:12are massively under pressure
00:32:13to keep Max
00:32:14the best driver
00:32:16on the grid
00:32:16possibly
00:32:18with the performance
00:32:19they've had
00:32:19and the amount of people
00:32:20that have been
00:32:21leaving the team
00:32:21the people that Max
00:32:22surrounded himself with
00:32:24are all off
00:32:25so it must feel
00:32:26like a very
00:32:26it's a very strange
00:32:27atmosphere for him
00:32:28so no his manager
00:32:29is right to be talking
00:32:30to other teams
00:32:31and I'm sure
00:32:32there's going to be
00:32:32a couple of possibilities
00:32:34but everyone's
00:32:34under contract
00:32:35but who knows
00:32:36if that's worth much
00:32:37It's kind of a change
00:32:38of ethos
00:32:39isn't it at Red Bull
00:32:39if we take the iteration
00:32:41that has existed
00:32:43up until this brain drain
00:32:45and since Christian left
00:32:46it feels like it's getting
00:32:47more along the lines
00:32:48of you know
00:32:49the kind of Red Bull
00:32:50football fraternities
00:32:51it's getting more corporate
00:32:52they're absolutely
00:32:53a team in transition
00:32:54are they not?
00:32:55Oh 100%
00:32:56I mean obviously
00:32:57I haven't been to
00:32:57very many races
00:32:58this year yet
00:32:59but I have to say
00:33:00that when I walk
00:33:00into the Red Bull
00:33:01hospitality day
00:33:02I feel like
00:33:03I don't know
00:33:03many people in there
00:33:04whereas before
00:33:04you knew quite a lot
00:33:06of them
00:33:06so it really does feel
00:33:07like there is a lot
00:33:08of change going on
00:33:08behind the scenes
00:33:09and you know
00:33:10maybe some of those
00:33:11changes are some
00:33:12that maybe Max
00:33:12was you know
00:33:13in favour of
00:33:14maybe some others not
00:33:15but the fact of the
00:33:16matter is
00:33:17you know
00:33:17at the end of the day
00:33:18Max has been in that team
00:33:19for a very long time
00:33:20and it's a culture
00:33:21that he fitted
00:33:22into or fit into
00:33:23very well
00:33:24where will he go next
00:33:25where's the right place
00:33:26for him
00:33:27I know that obviously
00:33:28this season
00:33:28a lot has changed
00:33:29and so it was wise
00:33:30of him to stay at Red Bull
00:33:31for the moment
00:33:32to see you know
00:33:32where would be
00:33:33the most favourable
00:33:34place to go
00:33:34and yeah
00:33:35it looks like
00:33:36there's other places
00:33:36that might be a little
00:33:37bit quicker for him
00:33:38at the moment
00:33:39I think
00:33:40I'm
00:33:40I think if he could go
00:33:42he would
00:33:42he will go
00:33:43at some point
00:33:44whether it's 28
00:33:45or 27
00:33:47and do something
00:33:48fresh for him
00:33:49we see drivers do that
00:33:51we saw Lewis Hamilton
00:33:51do that
00:33:52for example
00:33:53and get a reset
00:33:55and a new challenge
00:33:56after a very very long
00:33:57time
00:33:58in a team
00:33:59he put some faith
00:34:01in the new power unit
00:34:02and they've proven to be
00:34:03it's proven to be
00:34:03a very good decision
00:34:04and I wouldn't count him
00:34:06out for a decent result
00:34:07again this afternoon
00:34:08but the problem Max has got
00:34:10there are only three teams
00:34:11he can look at
00:34:12which are Ferrari
00:34:12McLaren
00:34:13and Mercedes
00:34:13and they all seem
00:34:14very very locked in
00:34:16to their current driver lineups
00:34:17for at least 2027
00:34:19and quite often
00:34:21way beyond
00:34:22yeah you definitely
00:34:22have to doff your cap
00:34:23though don't you
00:34:24to Red Bull Power Trace
00:34:25to come out of the blocks
00:34:26firing as they have
00:34:27and have effectively
00:34:28the best engine
00:34:29on the grid
00:34:30or so they say
00:34:31and that has been adjudicated
00:34:33right this is the plan
00:34:34up until lights
00:34:35at 10 to 2
00:34:37a special moment
00:34:39for Oli Behrman
00:34:40as he stepped back
00:34:41in time
00:34:41to feel how Senna
00:34:42must have felt
00:34:43driving his Lotus
00:34:45this is it
00:34:46are you excited
00:34:46I can't wait
00:34:48I can't wait
00:34:48I'm going to go
00:34:49sit on the pit wall
00:34:49take some videos for me
00:34:50I will
00:34:51at 10 past
00:34:52Lewis Hamilton
00:34:52reflects on his season
00:34:54so far
00:34:54Hamilton is back
00:34:56I'm thinking about winning
00:34:57that's what I'm working towards
00:34:58when I'm on my bike
00:34:59or I'm training
00:35:00in the gym
00:35:00or out on my runs
00:35:02that's what I'm pushing
00:35:03my heart to
00:35:04the pit lane
00:35:05is open for business
00:35:06at 20 past
00:35:09Martin's Pack
00:35:10Gridwalk
00:35:10gets underway
00:35:11at half past 2
00:35:13and it's lights out
00:35:14for the British Grand Prix
00:35:16at 3
00:35:25so still loads
00:35:26to keep you occupied
00:35:28talking about staying occupied
00:35:30what a busy weekend
00:35:31he has had
00:35:31but that's what happens
00:35:32when you're a world champion
00:35:33that's what happens
00:35:34when you're the reigning winner
00:35:35of the British Grand Prix
00:35:37and when you have a stand
00:35:38of 16,000 people
00:35:40all dressed in your colours
00:35:42wearing your merch
00:35:43and chanting your name
00:35:44that's the case for
00:35:46Lando Norris
00:35:47will continue build up
00:35:48in a couple of moments time
00:36:00welcome back
00:36:01with a carnage
00:36:02to start the day
00:36:03that's the first race
00:36:04to get you all
00:36:05in the mood
00:36:05there were plenty
00:36:06in the gravel
00:36:07there were a few shots
00:36:09in the end
00:36:09it was Fernando Alonso
00:36:10who came out
00:36:12on top
00:36:12let's go to this guy
00:36:13to prepare the top
00:36:14two from yesterday
00:36:17thanks Simon
00:36:18yeah I really enjoyed
00:36:19qualifying yesterday
00:36:20a great showdown
00:36:21between the top four
00:36:22I'd say
00:36:22the two Mercedes drivers
00:36:23and the two Ferrari drivers
00:36:25it boiled down to this though
00:36:26Charles Leclerc
00:36:27versus Kimi Antonelli
00:36:28we got the ghost car
00:36:29but also the side by sides
00:36:31we rolled it on
00:36:32you can see instantly
00:36:33Antonelli's ahead
00:36:34better deployment
00:36:35from the Mercedes
00:36:36perhaps than the Ferrari
00:36:37on the run
00:36:38past the Hamilton straight
00:36:39now you're into
00:36:40the tricky corner
00:36:40very windy here
00:36:42yesterday
00:36:42and if you look
00:36:43at Antonelli's on board
00:36:45I'll just wind it back
00:36:45slowly actually
00:36:47if you watch
00:36:48Antonelli's on board
00:36:49he's just fighting
00:36:51the car
00:36:51ever so slightly
00:36:52on the entry
00:36:53and that allows
00:36:55Leclerc
00:36:56just to gain a bit
00:36:56of extra speed
00:36:57through there
00:36:58and it actually is
00:36:59ahead
00:36:59by the time he gets
00:37:00to the loop
00:37:01at turn four
00:37:02and stays ahead
00:37:03on the exit of that one
00:37:04through turn five
00:37:05and onto the Wellington straight
00:37:06we'll go back
00:37:07to the side by side
00:37:08to pick up Antonelli
00:37:09seeing he's behind
00:37:10at this stage
00:37:11he's not far behind
00:37:12if we just look
00:37:13at the 100 metre board
00:37:13as a reference there
00:37:14on the right hand side
00:37:16still very close
00:37:18and obviously
00:37:18within striking distance
00:37:20through the very tricky
00:37:21turn six at Brooklands
00:37:23and then turn seven
00:37:24at Luffield
00:37:25now Antonelli
00:37:26was taking a different
00:37:27line here
00:37:27to many others
00:37:28and keeping it tighter
00:37:30you can see closer
00:37:31to this right hand curb
00:37:32than this competition
00:37:33and particularly Leclerc
00:37:35and here
00:37:36you can see
00:37:36in the ghost car
00:37:37he's just starting
00:37:39to appear
00:37:39with Leclerc
00:37:40but on the exit
00:37:41Leclerc gets on power
00:37:42earlier
00:37:43and pulls away
00:37:44we go back
00:37:45to just a single shot
00:37:46of Leclerc
00:37:47so no sign of Antonelli
00:37:48here
00:37:48from the ghost car
00:37:50through Cop's corner
00:37:51we go
00:37:52just down one gear
00:37:53watch out for that
00:37:54white line
00:37:54as both drivers did
00:37:56then you're into
00:37:57Maggots and Beckett's
00:37:58and still no sign
00:37:59of Antonelli
00:38:00and you think
00:38:00at this stage
00:38:01where is he
00:38:02where's the ghost car
00:38:02going to appear
00:38:03the Merc's been
00:38:04very quick here
00:38:04and there he is
00:38:06through turn 13
00:38:07at the exit of Beckett's
00:38:08and through Chapel
00:38:09then the Mercedes
00:38:10deploys more energy
00:38:12and we've seen that
00:38:13the whole week so far
00:38:14and that's exactly
00:38:15how it played out
00:38:16in qualifying
00:38:17a huge gain there
00:38:18from Kimi
00:38:19through 13
00:38:20and down the hangar straight
00:38:21a little bit of gain
00:38:23as you always see
00:38:23from when you're
00:38:24racing the car in front
00:38:25into the braking zone
00:38:26but on the exit
00:38:27Antonelli gets back
00:38:29on power once again
00:38:30and extends that gap
00:38:31and takes it to the line
00:38:33so that's how
00:38:33qualifying unfolded yesterday
00:38:35but when you look
00:38:36at margins this close
00:38:37it could be a very
00:38:38exciting and long race
00:38:39today
00:38:40back to you Simon
00:38:40yeah thanks Ant
00:38:42we hope so
00:38:43we really do
00:38:44and this is the state
00:38:45of play
00:38:46after the sprint
00:38:47on Saturday
00:38:48it's only the top half
00:38:49that was affected
00:38:50Kimi Antonelli
00:38:51was 40 points
00:38:52at the start of the weekend
00:38:53but extending that lead
00:38:54over his teammate
00:38:55George Russell
00:38:56to 43
00:38:56starting in first
00:38:57and fourth respectively
00:38:59Lewis is four points
00:39:01further adrift
00:39:02of his former teammate
00:39:03in turn
00:39:0447 clear
00:39:05of Lando Norris
00:39:0649 clear
00:39:08of his teammate
00:39:08Charles Leclerc
00:39:09albeit Charles
00:39:10finally a little bit
00:39:11of form
00:39:11as we just saw
00:39:12there yesterday
00:39:13in qualifying
00:39:14to start on the front row
00:39:15there comes Oscar Piastri
00:39:16point behind him
00:39:17Max Verstappen
00:39:18closing in
00:39:19after a decent effort
00:39:21in Austria
00:39:22but starting from 7th
00:39:23as we've discussed
00:39:24Hadjar Gasly
00:39:25and Lawson
00:39:26making up the rest
00:39:27of the top 10
00:39:27as far as the other
00:39:28two Brits are concerned
00:39:30got a lovely piece
00:39:31coming up
00:39:31with Oli Behrman
00:39:32but has only scored
00:39:33one point
00:39:34since China
00:39:35he's in 11th
00:39:36on 18
00:39:37Arvid Lindblad
00:39:38four points
00:39:39behind him
00:39:39and the first
00:39:40British teenager
00:39:41to take part
00:39:43in the British Grand Prix
00:39:44four to get off the mark
00:39:46in Hülkenberg
00:39:46Bottas
00:39:47Perez
00:39:47and Stroll
00:39:50so in the constructors
00:39:52Mercedes
00:39:52with exactly
00:39:53100 point lead
00:39:54over Ferrari
00:39:55then 48 to McLaren
00:39:5649 further back
00:39:57to Red Bull
00:39:58then Alpine
00:39:59leading the Racing Bulls
00:40:00by 12
00:40:01but the Racing Bulls
00:40:02actually
00:40:02both cars
00:40:03inside the top 10
00:40:04and looking good
00:40:05this weekend
00:40:05now Jensen
00:40:06Naomi
00:40:07we were talking
00:40:08about hypotheticals
00:40:09yesterday
00:40:09you love a bit
00:40:10of hypothetical stuff
00:40:12here we go again
00:40:12yeah here we go again
00:40:14I know
00:40:14I know
00:40:15we've talked about
00:40:16the Ferrari's
00:40:16fast starting
00:40:17all year
00:40:18but actually
00:40:19Kimi Antonelli
00:40:20has looked a lot better
00:40:22it was a tough start
00:40:23to the year
00:40:24smaller turbos
00:40:25etc etc
00:40:25so how much
00:40:26of a factor today
00:40:28well looking at yesterday
00:40:30Kimi's going to be confident
00:40:31you know
00:40:31coming to the start
00:40:32and that was kind of
00:40:33his Achilles heel
00:40:33at the start of the year
00:40:34wasn't it
00:40:35poor starts
00:40:35but yesterday
00:40:36seemed strong
00:40:37but for Ferrari
00:40:38they've got to be on top
00:40:39of him from the word go
00:40:40and the good thing
00:40:41Ferrari is they have
00:40:42two cars up there
00:40:43that can probably
00:40:44play around with the
00:40:45strategy a little bit
00:40:45one will pit early
00:40:46try and drag
00:40:47Kimi to pit early
00:40:49as well
00:40:49and we all know
00:40:50the first stint
00:40:51should be a lot longer
00:40:52so the other driver
00:40:52will go long
00:40:53but it's picking
00:40:54which driver
00:40:55right
00:40:55you're going to
00:40:56sacrifice in a race
00:40:57to win overall
00:40:58and I think
00:41:00it's going to depend
00:41:00who's leading
00:41:01before that first pit stop
00:41:02I suppose the main
00:41:03hypothetical
00:41:04that we were talking
00:41:05about was
00:41:06should the Ferrari
00:41:07the best chance
00:41:07of them winning
00:41:08right
00:41:08both Ferraris
00:41:08to get ahead of Kimi
00:41:09at the start
00:41:10and then work together
00:41:11is that fair
00:41:12100%
00:41:13I don't think
00:41:13there's any more
00:41:14to add to that
00:41:14obviously
00:41:15I think yesterday
00:41:16Lewis didn't take
00:41:18quite as good a start
00:41:19as Antonelli did
00:41:19but Lewis was very
00:41:21aggressive at the start
00:41:21closing the door
00:41:22squeezing Antonelli
00:41:23and I think he'll take
00:41:24some learnings from that
00:41:25but honestly
00:41:26if he gets a good start
00:41:27and let's not forget
00:41:27that a start is not
00:41:28just the driver's job
00:41:29I mean yes
00:41:30there's the element
00:41:30of clutch control
00:41:31and all of that
00:41:32but it's teamwork
00:41:33a lot of the work
00:41:34gets done on the pit wall
00:41:35as well
00:41:35and it goes both ways
00:41:36and Mercedes haven't
00:41:38had the smoother start
00:41:38to their starts this year
00:41:40but they have come around
00:41:41they have got it better
00:41:42but is it going to
00:41:43niggle in his mind
00:41:44is it going to be
00:41:44that little bit
00:41:45of extra pressure
00:41:46two Ferraris
00:41:46you know
00:41:47one alongside him
00:41:47one behind him
00:41:48you know
00:41:49let's see if he keeps
00:41:50his cool in that moment
00:41:51the data shows
00:41:52that Antonelli
00:41:53was faster off the line
00:41:54yesterday
00:41:54than Lewis Hamilton
00:41:55in the Ferrari
00:41:57so I think
00:41:58that Ferrari advantage
00:42:00is now gone
00:42:00other than with Red Bull
00:42:02who are struggling
00:42:03but I think what Ferrari
00:42:04are a little bit nervous
00:42:05of
00:42:05first of all
00:42:06everybody was trigger happy
00:42:07on the boost
00:42:08the crazy first few laps
00:42:09and then they need
00:42:11half a dozen laps
00:42:12to sort themselves out
00:42:13is why it all calms down
00:42:14will they do that
00:42:15so much in a Grand Prix
00:42:17rather than a 17 lap sprint
00:42:18we will find out
00:42:19but it's a little bit
00:42:20too tempting
00:42:21to get in a few places
00:42:23we will get a bit
00:42:24of craziness
00:42:24in the first couple
00:42:25three laps
00:42:27but Ferrari know
00:42:28that actually
00:42:29they've got an advantage
00:42:30over McLaren and Red Bull
00:42:31if they squabble
00:42:33too much
00:42:33with the Mercedes
00:42:34early doors
00:42:35it'll bring Red Bull
00:42:37and McLaren into play
00:42:38so I think
00:42:39they're looking
00:42:39in their rear view mirrors
00:42:40not to let that develop
00:42:42and then try and build
00:42:43the gap
00:42:44and stay with Mercedes
00:42:45Joe
00:42:45we came into this weekend
00:42:46there were a lot
00:42:47of drivers moaning
00:42:47this is going to be
00:42:48an energy star circuit
00:42:49they've got out there
00:42:50and actually
00:42:51they've really doled down
00:42:52and I think
00:42:53as far as the public
00:42:55and the fans are concerned
00:42:56those opening laps
00:42:57as you mentioned
00:42:58the yo-yo stuff
00:42:59that you get
00:43:00with these regulations
00:43:01it might not always be
00:43:02you know
00:43:03it's not about
00:43:03that's a pure overtake
00:43:05you certainly get
00:43:06a lot of movement
00:43:07don't you
00:43:07but they're still
00:43:07pure overtakes
00:43:08we've always had
00:43:09something in racing
00:43:10that's helped us
00:43:11to overtake the car
00:43:11in front
00:43:12whether it's a better car
00:43:13or it's actually a system
00:43:14within the car
00:43:15that helps you overtake
00:43:15so if you watch
00:43:16these cars out on track
00:43:18they look amazing
00:43:19they don't look
00:43:20slow in any way
00:43:21shape or form
00:43:22the speed they're
00:43:23carrying into turn one
00:43:24maggots, beckets
00:43:25it's just phenomenal
00:43:26and if you do ever
00:43:28get a chance
00:43:28to watch an F1 car
00:43:29this circuit
00:43:30is the one to come to
00:43:31because it's where
00:43:32it's at its best
00:43:32and this year
00:43:33is no different
00:43:33to any other
00:43:34I didn't like the way
00:43:35that Anthony Lee
00:43:36breezed past
00:43:37at 25 miles an hour
00:43:38more yesterday
00:43:39but you know
00:43:41if somebody's got
00:43:42way better tires
00:43:43than another driver
00:43:44that's still a pure
00:43:45overtake
00:43:46because strategy wise
00:43:47that's what they've done
00:43:48and if a driver
00:43:49is managing his car
00:43:50better
00:43:51and what happened
00:43:52yesterday
00:43:52with the big
00:43:53breeze by
00:43:54was Anthony Lee
00:43:55put Hamilton
00:43:56under pressure
00:43:57got him out of position
00:43:58Lewis couldn't drive
00:43:59exactly how he wanted
00:44:00had to boost
00:44:01to defend that position
00:44:02and then
00:44:03left him exposed
00:44:05down the hangar straight
00:44:05so there's strategy
00:44:07involved
00:44:07it's not just
00:44:08you know
00:44:09it's not all just
00:44:10about electronics
00:44:12and algorithms
00:44:13yeah
00:44:13as Martin points out
00:44:14I mean
00:44:15at the end of the day
00:44:16they all are pretty much
00:44:17equipped with the same tools
00:44:18the rules are the same
00:44:19for everybody
00:44:20and whilst yes
00:44:20maybe it's not the purest form
00:44:22of wheel-to-wheel racing
00:44:23that we know
00:44:24from maybe
00:44:25the days back in karting
00:44:26but as Jensen pointed out
00:44:27you know
00:44:28there was curves back in the day
00:44:29then there was DRS
00:44:30and there's always been
00:44:31these mechanisms
00:44:31that drivers have to help
00:44:32them overtake
00:44:33now yes
00:44:34it's slightly more extreme
00:44:35but it just unlocks
00:44:36a whole new set of challenges
00:44:38that you know
00:44:38you have to think about
00:44:39where you're going to be deploying
00:44:40this trick we've been hearing
00:44:42about Mercedes drivers
00:44:43slightly lifting off the throttle
00:44:44all these little things
00:44:45that require more capacity
00:44:47as well in the cockpit
00:44:48are putting these drivers
00:44:50under more pressure
00:44:50whether it's the best
00:44:52rawest racing we've seen or not
00:44:53the problem is
00:44:54it's not tangible
00:44:56you can see the wings
00:44:57going up and down
00:44:58you can see all
00:44:59fresh tyres going on
00:45:00we can't really see
00:45:01the state of charge
00:45:02of the battery
00:45:03that's the issue we've got
00:45:04at the moment
00:45:04for fully explaining it
00:45:05we'll get it sorted
00:45:06we're going to hear from Lewis
00:45:07we've got a dedicated part
00:45:09for Lewis Hamilton
00:45:10coming up
00:45:11but his teammate
00:45:12Charles Leclerc
00:45:12what was it
00:45:13three points
00:45:13four points
00:45:14I think
00:45:14from the last three races
00:45:16why is he being suffered
00:45:17why is he 49 points
00:45:19behind his teammate
00:45:20compared to last year
00:45:21I think a lot of it
00:45:22comes from Monaco onwards
00:45:23you know
00:45:24he's had the pace
00:45:24he had the pace
00:45:25at the start of the year
00:45:26but Monaco
00:45:26he had the incident
00:45:27when he was unbelievably quick
00:45:29but he put it in the wall
00:45:30it's a back
00:45:31he also put it in the wall
00:45:32in Barcelona
00:45:34in qualifying
00:45:35so he's not had an easy run
00:45:37of it
00:45:37he maybe was overdriving
00:45:38a little bit
00:45:39so he's had to take
00:45:39a bit of a reset
00:45:40and try and work out
00:45:42what works with these cars
00:45:43and what doesn't
00:45:43overdriving obviously
00:45:44doesn't work
00:45:46and it was really good
00:45:47to see him
00:45:47fighting for that pole position
00:45:49yesterday
00:45:50it's the first time
00:45:50for a long time
00:45:51he's been up there
00:45:52with Lewis
00:45:52we have a briefing
00:45:53on a race day
00:45:55Crofty and I
00:45:55with Ferrari
00:45:56we asked that question
00:45:57and it's exactly like
00:45:59Jensen was just explaining
00:46:00basically
00:46:02Charles
00:46:02just lives on his wits
00:46:04loves to throw a car in
00:46:05pick it up
00:46:06sort it out
00:46:07now you're going to have
00:46:08to be so much more
00:46:09controlled on the power
00:46:10how you deploy your power
00:46:11spin the wheels
00:46:12you waste some battery power
00:46:13it'll hurt you
00:46:14at the end of the straight
00:46:15and I think
00:46:15Charles is having to
00:46:16almost relearn
00:46:18how to drive these cars
00:46:19because his normal style
00:46:20is more gung-ho than that
00:46:23right
00:46:23we've got a lovely feature
00:46:25coming up
00:46:26I'll tee that up
00:46:26in a couple of moments time
00:46:28about legends
00:46:29there's one
00:46:301992 world champion
00:46:32Nigel Mansell
00:46:33talking to Alex Albon
00:46:35that is the helmet
00:46:36that you want in Barcelona
00:46:37when he took over
00:46:38as the man that has
00:46:39raced the most times
00:46:40for Williams
00:46:41a lovely presentation
00:46:43for the great man
00:46:44talking of great men
00:46:45none greater than
00:46:46Ayrton Senna
00:46:47and what a day
00:46:49for Oli Behrman
00:46:49that is next
00:46:56I think it's a sensory overload
00:46:58when you first get into
00:46:59one of these cars
00:47:00with a turbo
00:47:01you're just trying to get the lag
00:47:02oh look at that
00:47:03he's singing
00:47:03he's singing down
00:47:04hangar straight
00:47:05I can hear him
00:47:12oh that was
00:47:14so special
00:47:20let's keep watching
00:47:41Oli we've dragged you
00:47:42from your normal world
00:47:43into the past
00:47:44what do you think of this
00:47:45the 1985 Ayrton Senna Lotus
00:47:48in which he won
00:47:49his first ever Grand Prix
00:47:51in Estoril
00:47:51Senna is one of the best drivers
00:47:53that we've ever had
00:47:54and never will have
00:47:55so seeing the car
00:47:56that he raced
00:47:57and won his first race
00:47:58in is quite an emotional moment
00:47:59shall we see if you fit
00:48:01yeah let's give it a go
00:48:02this is it
00:48:03moment of truth
00:48:04this is still
00:48:05Ayrton's seat by the way
00:48:06this is the original
00:48:07Senna seat from 85
00:48:10oh it's perfect
00:48:12you win
00:48:14easily
00:48:15I have a question
00:48:15have you ever driven
00:48:16a stick shift race car before
00:48:18I've driven a stick shift race car
00:48:19but not a stick shift single seater
00:48:21that's way before my time
00:48:23I've always had paddles
00:48:24but I mean this is incredible
00:48:26so close to the front axle as well
00:48:28I know
00:48:29you can see so much
00:48:30can't you
00:48:30from where you're sitting
00:48:31I mean our front tyres
00:48:33are metres away from us
00:48:35you know
00:48:36it's comfy
00:48:36I mean
00:48:38I feel like I'm ready to go
00:48:41does this bring back memories?
00:48:42it always brings back memories
00:48:43the thing that always gets me
00:48:45is that when I was 23
00:48:49getting off all over the place
00:48:50and having a great time
00:48:51with a Formula 1 team
00:48:52never ever did I once dream
00:48:54that we'd still be looking after it
00:48:55and still driving it
00:48:5642 years later
00:48:58or whatever it is
00:49:00we have the best car
00:49:02the best engine
00:49:02and the best driver
00:49:03in 85
00:49:05the car was marvellous
00:49:06the team have provided me
00:49:09with a fantastic car
00:49:10and I'm very very grateful
00:49:13just have a go mate
00:49:14yeah
00:49:14see what happens
00:49:18this is it
00:49:19are you excited?
00:49:20I can't wait
00:49:21I can't wait
00:49:22I'm going to go sit on the pit wall
00:49:22take some videos for me
00:49:24I will
00:49:41and he's off
00:49:43he sounds really really excited
00:49:45I'm getting full
00:49:46kid in a candy store vibes
00:49:49I'd be very lucky
00:49:50to have driven
00:49:50lots of historic cars
00:49:52and it feels so aily
00:49:53when you first do it
00:49:54but you know what
00:49:55I decided for him
00:49:56because this is such a
00:49:57cool era of F1
00:49:58turbo cars
00:49:59Senna, Prost, Mansell
00:50:01great names
00:50:07I think it's a sensory overload
00:50:09when you first get into
00:50:10one of these cars
00:50:11with the turbo
00:50:11you're just trying to get the lag
00:50:12oh look at that
00:50:13he's singing
00:50:14he's singing down
00:50:15Hangar Street
00:50:15I can hear him
00:50:23here he comes
00:50:24here he comes
00:50:33that's amazing
00:50:34you hear him
00:50:35popping off the red limiter there
00:50:36good blip
00:50:37down into the first corner
00:50:49this is just pure joy
00:51:19oh that was
00:51:21so special
00:51:27that's quite something
00:51:28isn't it
00:51:30I had to do another lap
00:51:31I'm really glad
00:51:32you felt how special that was
00:51:34I wanted to keep going
00:51:40you're still shaking
00:51:42is that the most special thing
00:51:44you've driven
00:51:44this is like
00:51:46does it feel like a reminder
00:51:47of why you became
00:51:48a racing driver
00:51:51yeah
00:51:54that's great
00:51:55to see you in that
00:51:57thank you so much
00:51:59good to see it going around you
00:52:00and getting a bit of attention
00:52:03you won't be the first driver
00:52:04who's got in
00:52:05a historic car
00:52:07and being as emotional
00:52:08as you are
00:52:09because it has a knack
00:52:10of getting
00:52:11getting all of us
00:52:14same for us watching
00:52:17sorry for the extra laugh
00:52:18I don't blame you
00:52:20thank you
00:52:21you alright
00:52:22get me upset
00:52:28okay
00:52:30that was an experience
00:52:32yeah
00:52:32enjoy it
00:52:38so fun
00:52:50this is so so special
00:52:53I feel like I've seen
00:52:55this view
00:52:55of the Black Lotus
00:52:57those Goodyear logos
00:52:58spinning around
00:52:59your center
00:53:00drumming down the pit lane
00:53:08oh my goodness
00:53:09hangar speed
00:53:11down to Brooklyn
00:53:13so important
00:53:14to keep the
00:53:16the turbo
00:53:17spinning
00:53:17keep the engine
00:53:18revs off
00:53:19when you get a dive
00:53:20there's so little time
00:53:22before
00:53:23you have to go up
00:53:25into the next hill
00:53:26up to maggots
00:53:27and beckers
00:53:29pop it down the gears
00:53:32on to hangar 3
00:53:33let's unleash the beast
00:53:3911,000 RPM
00:53:41in pop gear
00:53:44second gear
00:53:45in the club
00:53:56the biggest thing
00:53:57when you're driving
00:53:59a manual gearbox
00:54:00like this
00:54:00you come out of corners
00:54:02you have to think
00:54:03do I want to shot you
00:54:05do I dare
00:54:06take my hand
00:54:07off the wheel
00:54:12wow
00:54:13a sunny
00:54:14surfaced in circuit
00:54:15driving the car
00:54:17in which arguably
00:54:18the greatest
00:54:19Formula 1 driver
00:54:20of all time
00:54:21won his first Grand Prix
00:54:24this has been amazing
00:54:25amazing
00:54:38what a day
00:54:38how do you feel
00:54:39that was an incredibly
00:54:41special experience
00:54:43they were very strict
00:54:44on telling me
00:54:45to only do one lap
00:54:46or two laps
00:54:47I forgot
00:54:49and did an extra one
00:54:50I was just getting
00:54:52the feel of the gearbox
00:54:52and feeling actually
00:54:54finally the grip
00:54:55of the car
00:54:55and it was
00:54:57so incredibly fun
00:54:58and yeah
00:55:00powerful to drive
00:55:01is it nice
00:55:02to take a step back
00:55:03and just discover
00:55:04the love of driving
00:55:05yeah I think
00:55:06sometimes you have
00:55:07these days in racing
00:55:08where it reminds you
00:55:10of why you fell in love
00:55:11with the sport
00:55:11and of course
00:55:12I was never around
00:55:14to watch Ayrton
00:55:15and his victories
00:55:17but he's someone
00:55:19that you know
00:55:20when I was growing up
00:55:20he was like the
00:55:21king
00:55:22the king of F1
00:55:24you know
00:55:24so
00:55:25being able
00:55:26to drive his car
00:55:26and having that
00:55:29opportunity
00:55:29was a very special
00:55:30moment for me
00:55:31and I feel
00:55:32incredibly grateful
00:55:38well Oli
00:55:39can we talk
00:55:39different cars
00:55:40different emotions
00:55:41we've just seen
00:55:42that incredibly
00:55:42powerful feature
00:55:43of you driving
00:55:44Senna's Lotus
00:55:45I mean
00:55:46are you still
00:55:47buzzing after that
00:55:48an experience
00:55:48to treasure
00:55:49yeah that was an experience
00:55:50for a lifetime
00:55:51for sure
00:55:51and they very strictly
00:55:53told me to do
00:55:54only three laps
00:55:54I went for a fourth
00:55:56because I thought
00:55:56that might be the best
00:55:57time you ever get to drive
00:55:58that and probably will be
00:55:59so I enjoyed everything
00:56:02I saw that coming
00:56:03I enjoyed every moment
00:56:04it was incredibly special
00:56:05and powerful for me
00:56:07Senna is an icon
00:56:08for any F1 driver
00:56:09I was never of course
00:56:11around to watch him racing
00:56:12but he's a very powerful
00:56:14figure for us
00:56:15and it was incredibly
00:56:16special to drive his car
00:56:17from Sublime to the Ridiculous
00:56:18Lotus to Lego
00:56:19what was that like
00:56:20yeah the lap of the Lego
00:56:22was a bit less
00:56:24powerful or moving
00:56:25let's say
00:56:26than the one in the Senna car
00:56:27but it's still fun
00:56:29it's nice to let our hair down
00:56:30but now we have to get
00:56:31serious again
00:56:31yeah
00:56:32what about the race car
00:56:33finally
00:56:33what emotions
00:56:34can that give you today
00:56:35can you get points in it
00:56:37yeah
00:56:37I mean
00:56:39realistically
00:56:40I think it's going to be
00:56:42emotions of disappointment
00:56:43because the car has been
00:56:45not that impressive this weekend
00:56:46we've struggled for pace
00:56:48I think realistically
00:56:49our fight is with Williams
00:56:51today we're ahead of Alpine
00:56:52because of
00:56:53you know
00:56:54they had a challenge
00:56:54in qualifying
00:56:55and I think a good result
00:56:56will be beating them
00:56:59points will be a challenge
00:57:00but of course
00:57:00we'll give it our all
00:57:01and see what we can do
00:57:02best of luck to you
00:57:03thank you so much
00:57:04thanks
00:57:08I've watched that piece
00:57:09two or three times now
00:57:10it's not a dry eye
00:57:11in the house
00:57:12looking at the reaction
00:57:13that Oli had
00:57:14to driving Senna's car
00:57:15I mean
00:57:16it must just have
00:57:17really touched
00:57:18something deep within there
00:57:19because
00:57:19I mean
00:57:20I've never seen
00:57:21something like that
00:57:21from a driver
00:57:22no I think we often
00:57:24see a version
00:57:24of the drivers
00:57:25that's you know
00:57:26behind sort of
00:57:27a protective wall
00:57:28and there I think
00:57:29he really let his guard down
00:57:30and I think
00:57:31I can understand
00:57:32I mean
00:57:32you know
00:57:32even if I just
00:57:33put myself
00:57:34into his shoes
00:57:35I mean
00:57:35I was born
00:57:3617 days after Senna's death
00:57:38and we hear about
00:57:39this person
00:57:40who was the biggest legend
00:57:41of our sport
00:57:42but we were never there
00:57:43to see him do his thing
00:57:44like many others
00:57:45were very lucky to do
00:57:46so I think
00:57:46there's this element
00:57:48of like us wanting
00:57:48to live in that moment
00:57:50and I think
00:57:51you know
00:57:51getting in the car
00:57:52like he did
00:57:53brings up some
00:57:53of that emotion
00:57:54I mean
00:57:54I was lucky enough
00:57:55two years ago
00:57:56around the circuit
00:57:57as well
00:57:57to get into Senna's
00:57:58very first Formula 1 car
00:57:59the Tolman
00:58:01TG183B
00:58:02and I felt
00:58:03very emotional
00:58:04about it as well
00:58:05I mean
00:58:05it was his original
00:58:06steering wheel
00:58:06as well
00:58:07there was also
00:58:07an element
00:58:08of absolute fear
00:58:09because of the
00:58:09H-pattern gearbox
00:58:10which my generation
00:58:12of drivers
00:58:12never really had
00:58:13to learn to drive
00:58:13with all that
00:58:14good stuff
00:58:14like double clutching
00:58:15and kneeling
00:58:16towing
00:58:16and all that stuff
00:58:17that we didn't
00:58:17really have to learn
00:58:18Martin
00:58:19a different experience
00:58:21for you
00:58:21you grew up
00:58:22racing against him
00:58:23you had some
00:58:23amazing tussles
00:58:24didn't you
00:58:25in the Formula
00:58:25coming through
00:58:26to Formula 1
00:58:27and then of course
00:58:28you've driven
00:58:29a few of his cars
00:58:30I don't want to
00:58:32get too existential
00:58:33about this
00:58:33but do you kind of
00:58:34feel his presence
00:58:35when you're sitting
00:58:36in one of those
00:58:36things like the MP44
00:58:38and you think
00:58:38wow
00:58:39the history created
00:58:40from these things
00:58:41to keep those cars
00:58:42running
00:58:43I have been lucky
00:58:44enough to drive
00:58:44that car
00:58:45not exactly that
00:58:46one by one
00:58:47similar to it
00:58:48I mean they were
00:58:49iconic
00:58:49even when they were
00:58:50ticking over
00:58:50they were iconic
00:58:52the Renault Turbo
00:58:54and the way Senna
00:58:55used to play
00:58:55with the throttle
00:58:56was unique
00:58:57to keep the boost
00:58:58up
00:58:58and yes
00:58:59the great man
00:59:00and they should
00:59:01have obviously
00:59:02gone on to win
00:59:02a lot more
00:59:03world championships
00:59:04but I love
00:59:06watching that
00:59:07because those
00:59:08lack of words
00:59:09and the tears
00:59:10spoke volumes
00:59:12and for a young
00:59:13driver to
00:59:15appreciate so much
00:59:16the history of the
00:59:17sport
00:59:17and that of the
00:59:19great man
00:59:19in Senna
00:59:20was magnificent
00:59:21it made me feel
00:59:22really good all round
00:59:23even as you say
00:59:24with kind of a little
00:59:24tear in my eye
00:59:25yeah
00:59:25amazing
00:59:26just with regards
00:59:27to Ollie
00:59:28I think the job
00:59:28he's done
00:59:28this year
00:59:29he's perhaps
00:59:31struggling a little
00:59:32bit there
00:59:32for 14th
00:59:33I mean you don't
00:59:33know what he's
00:59:34going to be able
00:59:34to do
00:59:34but he might
00:59:35have to be patient
00:59:35because of what's
00:59:37going on at Ferrari
00:59:38at the moment
00:59:39yeah it's a tricky
00:59:40one for him
00:59:41I think he's just
00:59:41going to get his
00:59:42head down
00:59:42and keep driving
00:59:43the way he is
00:59:43you know unbelievably
00:59:45quick and growing
00:59:46all the time
00:59:46and as we said
00:59:48you know wearing
00:59:48his heart on his
00:59:49sleeve
00:59:49which I love about
00:59:50a lot of the
00:59:51racing drivers right
00:59:51now
00:59:52they're very open
00:59:52with their emotions
00:59:53and I think that's
00:59:55why there's such a
00:59:55love for this sport
00:59:56at the moment
00:59:56but yes it's tricky
00:59:58with Ferrari
00:59:59both drivers doing
01:00:00really well
01:00:00and it doesn't look
01:00:01like Lewis is going
01:00:02anywhere anytime soon
01:00:03but I'm sure his
01:00:04management is
01:00:05is looking around
01:00:06a little bit
01:00:06outside the Ferrari
01:00:08family
01:00:09right
01:00:09shall we see
01:00:10who's out and about
01:00:11limber up for your
01:00:12grid walk
01:00:13and see who you
01:00:14might be
01:00:14oh you had a moment
01:00:15with that later
01:00:16didn't you
01:00:16last year
01:00:17Hannah Waddingham
01:00:18is here of course
01:00:18sung the national anthem
01:00:19back in 2024
01:00:21see if we can seek
01:00:22her out
01:00:22couple of lionesses
01:00:23but there we go
01:00:24Alicia Rousseau
01:00:26who won the euros
01:00:27in both 2022
01:00:28and 2025
01:00:29and of course
01:00:30there is a football
01:00:31game going on
01:00:32in the early hours
01:00:33of tomorrow morning
01:00:34I wonder if we'll get
01:00:35an English winner
01:00:36of this
01:00:37but Jack Greenish
01:00:37well perhaps
01:00:38you think he might
01:00:39have been
01:00:39or should have been
01:00:40going to the
01:00:41World Cup
01:00:41nevertheless
01:00:42he's here to enjoy
01:00:43this instead
01:00:43after the break
01:00:44Lewis Hamilton
01:00:46I'm still very tapped
01:00:48into the kid
01:00:49I was
01:00:49coming home
01:00:50putting on the
01:00:51videotape of Ayrton
01:00:52and watching him
01:00:52driving
01:00:53I'm like
01:00:53I still feel
01:00:55connected to that
01:00:56child in me
01:00:56and I know
01:00:58that I'm very
01:00:59privileged to be
01:01:00one of the 22
01:01:01drivers here
01:01:02so I have this
01:01:03opportunity
01:01:03I'll grab it
01:01:04with both hands
01:01:04and I don't
01:01:05take it for granted
01:01:15I wonder
01:01:16I bet you're
01:01:17all wondering
01:01:18at home as well
01:01:19can he make it
01:01:20ten victories
01:01:21at the British
01:01:22Grand Prix
01:01:23he looks absolutely
01:01:24focused
01:01:25he starts from third
01:01:26his teammate
01:01:26just ahead of him
01:01:28but there we go
01:01:29there is such a huge
01:01:31amount of support
01:01:32for the great man
01:01:33Icon
01:01:34can he do it
01:01:35we shall find out
01:01:36we caught up with him
01:01:36early this week
01:01:41it's been coming for Hamilton
01:01:43for a while now
01:01:44second season at Ferrari
01:01:46and he's firing on all cylinders
01:01:49686 days have been and gone
01:01:52and Hamilton is back
01:01:56obviously massively emotional
01:01:57not only for me
01:01:58but for everyone
01:01:59that's been on the journey
01:02:00with me
01:02:00spent hours
01:02:02when I got home
01:02:03just reposting
01:02:04all these beautiful videos
01:02:06and all these beautiful people
01:02:08that have supported me
01:02:09all these years
01:02:10but then yeah
01:02:11then you've just got to
01:02:12kind of like
01:02:12put your phone down
01:02:13and then get back
01:02:13on the treadmill
01:02:15I'm thinking about winning
01:02:16that's what I'm working towards
01:02:17when I'm on my bike
01:02:18or I'm training
01:02:19in the gym
01:02:19or out on my runs
01:02:21that's what I'm pushing
01:02:22my heart towards
01:02:23and the work that I do
01:02:24with the guys
01:02:25at the factory
01:02:25that's what I'm working towards
01:02:28but I also know
01:02:29how these seasons go
01:02:30and last year
01:02:31was really really challenging
01:02:32if I was Lewis Hamilton
01:02:33I'd just be a
01:02:34I'd be a little fed up
01:02:36at the situation
01:02:37he's now found himself in
01:02:38this is not good teamwork
01:02:40that's all I'm going to say
01:02:42in China
01:02:42I go the other way
01:02:43when you're on a different show
01:02:44understood
01:02:45we swap the cars
01:02:46have a tea break
01:02:47while you're at it
01:02:48come on
01:02:48I'm useless
01:02:49absolutely useless
01:02:53the most successful driver
01:02:55of all time
01:02:56is knocked out
01:02:57and it's P13 as well
01:02:59every time
01:03:01every time
01:03:02the changes that I've asked for
01:03:04and pushed for
01:03:06all last year
01:03:07have been made
01:03:09and I now have
01:03:10the right team around me
01:03:12I now have
01:03:13the right car around me
01:03:14and now I can start doing
01:03:17what I do best
01:03:18there were things
01:03:19there were things that I wanted
01:03:19that I have on this car
01:03:20that we couldn't put on
01:03:21last year's car
01:03:22because we were focused on
01:03:24cost cap
01:03:25and things would take
01:03:26six months to build
01:03:27and it wasn't worth it
01:03:29by the time
01:03:30we would implement it
01:03:31so I had them
01:03:32design it
01:03:33and create it
01:03:34for the simulator
01:03:35and so I could test it
01:03:37just to verify it
01:03:38and it was better
01:03:38on the sim
01:03:39and then they
01:03:40created those options
01:03:42and so we got to Bahrain
01:03:45with the baseline
01:03:46and then we added those
01:03:47to a couple of those options
01:03:49and it was better
01:03:49and we've been running it
01:03:50all year
01:03:51well done Luis
01:03:52sorry the race
01:03:53clever and smart
01:03:54as we wanted
01:03:55thank you
01:03:56keep pushing
01:03:57back in Maranello
01:03:58we've got work to do
01:03:59but I believe in you
01:04:00let's keep pushing
01:04:01for the Ferrari
01:04:02thank you
01:04:03my engineer group
01:04:04we've got a really great rapport now
01:04:06communication
01:04:07you can see
01:04:07with my engineer
01:04:08even on the racetrack
01:04:09it's a million times better
01:04:12so yeah
01:04:13just the alignments
01:04:14now that
01:04:15I used to walk past Ferrari
01:04:18all those other years
01:04:19and walk past the garage
01:04:20and people
01:04:21kind of looking down
01:04:22kind of the whole tunnel
01:04:23that they have
01:04:24into the garage
01:04:24wondering what it's like
01:04:25in the red garage
01:04:26and now to be one of them
01:04:28and to be amongst them
01:04:29it's such a privilege
01:04:31I look back
01:04:32at the history
01:04:33of some of the other drivers
01:04:34that have joined the team
01:04:35when they've come through
01:04:36an evolution
01:04:37and the class being good
01:04:38and then come straight in
01:04:39and won
01:04:40and of course
01:04:41that's an amazing thing
01:04:42but I'm actually glad
01:04:44that I would never want
01:04:45it to be that way
01:04:46that I just join
01:04:47and then straight away we win
01:04:48I mean I've not moved
01:04:49to any teams
01:04:50that have been at the top
01:04:51straight away
01:04:52you know
01:04:52I like the journey
01:04:53of building together
01:04:55up ahead for us
01:04:56what I'm really proud of
01:04:57and happy is
01:04:58that we are bringing
01:04:59performance
01:05:00we're progressing
01:05:01we are moving forwards
01:05:02every weekend
01:05:03there's bits coming
01:05:04all the time
01:05:04the guys are pushing
01:05:05as much
01:05:07as much
01:05:07as they can
01:05:08can Lewis Hamilton
01:05:09claim a third pole
01:05:11for a sprint
01:05:12in Formula 1
01:05:13powers to the line
01:05:14he's done it
01:05:15by 1 100th of a second
01:05:17Lewis Hamilton's on pole
01:05:19there you up you want
01:05:20man
01:05:21great job
01:05:22great job
01:05:25there really is
01:05:26a big difference
01:05:26when you come
01:05:27to your home crowd
01:05:28the fans here
01:05:29have been
01:05:29just phenomenal
01:05:30since my first pole
01:05:32position here
01:05:32in 2007
01:05:33and then
01:05:34the first win
01:05:35I had in 2008
01:05:36and then
01:05:37just every year
01:05:38it's just an extra buzz
01:05:39an extra push
01:05:39it is the best track
01:05:41in the world
01:05:42it's just awesome
01:05:43I'm still very tapped
01:05:44into the kid
01:05:45I was
01:05:46coming home
01:05:47putting on the videotape
01:05:48of Edson
01:05:49and watching him driving
01:05:50I'm like
01:05:50I still feel
01:05:52connected to that child
01:05:53in me
01:05:53and
01:05:55you know
01:05:55I feel
01:05:56I know that I'm very
01:05:57privileged to be
01:05:58one of the 22 drivers
01:05:59here
01:06:00so I have this opportunity
01:06:02I grab it with both hands
01:06:03and I don't take it
01:06:03for granted
01:06:04I just feel
01:06:05that I have more
01:06:05left in me
01:06:06like
01:06:06I've not seen
01:06:07the end of that yet
01:06:08and
01:06:09undoubtedly
01:06:10I'm going to go
01:06:10through difficult times
01:06:12it doesn't feel good
01:06:13when you're in them
01:06:14but that's a part
01:06:15of the journey
01:06:30bang on cue
01:06:31look at that
01:06:32on the Hamilton straight
01:06:33all of those flags
01:06:35all wishing him well
01:06:36because
01:06:36he is the man here
01:06:38as we've said
01:06:38he's
01:06:39got nine wins
01:06:40he's had
01:06:40eight polls
01:06:4115 podiums
01:06:43and if he gets
01:06:44a tenth win today
01:06:44that would be a 50%
01:06:46hit rate
01:06:46at your British Grand Prix
01:06:47it's not bad
01:06:48it's not bad at all
01:06:50and what an amazing place
01:06:51we have here
01:06:52there's so much support
01:06:53for the British drivers
01:06:54but especially
01:06:56Lewis Hamilton
01:06:56I've watched him race
01:06:58here many times
01:06:59raced alongside him
01:07:00it is
01:07:01it is something
01:07:02very special
01:07:02why
01:07:03different lines
01:07:04different
01:07:04I mean
01:07:04it's just the way
01:07:05he approaches it
01:07:06I mean
01:07:06as we talk about
01:07:07back of the hand
01:07:08but it really is with him
01:07:09he's just got so much
01:07:10confidence
01:07:10carrying speed
01:07:11into corners like
01:07:12Cops
01:07:12Beckett's
01:07:13Maggots
01:07:13Stowe
01:07:14he just knows
01:07:15exactly where to
01:07:16place the car
01:07:17his feeling for
01:07:19the car on the limit
01:07:20is something that
01:07:21I never experienced
01:07:22you know
01:07:23it's really
01:07:23really impressive
01:07:24we were talking
01:07:25about it earlier
01:07:25but to think about
01:07:27the sea change
01:07:28complete reversal
01:07:29of fortunes
01:07:30from last year
01:07:31we heard him
01:07:32actually complaining
01:07:33a little bit
01:07:33in the press conference
01:07:34he was saying
01:07:35look
01:07:35you know
01:07:35change
01:07:36when you try
01:07:37to force your change
01:07:38or you try to bring
01:07:39your experience
01:07:39into a new team
01:07:40some people
01:07:41you get a bit
01:07:42of friction
01:07:42I think he thought
01:07:44that people perhaps
01:07:44weren't listening to him
01:07:46behind the scenes
01:07:47at Ferrari
01:07:47and now they are
01:07:49and they're making
01:07:49some progress
01:07:50yeah well don't they
01:07:51always say change
01:07:52is most often met
01:07:53with resistance
01:07:53and I think it is tricky
01:07:54I mean when people
01:07:55are set in their ways
01:07:56and someone comes in
01:07:57from outside
01:07:58yes it is a fresh
01:07:59set of eyes
01:07:59but you become
01:08:00accustomed to work
01:08:01in your processes
01:08:02the way you do
01:08:02and so sometimes
01:08:03it's tougher
01:08:04to just take that
01:08:04information on board
01:08:05but you know
01:08:06Lewis obviously
01:08:07that whole ground effect
01:08:08era of cars
01:08:09just didn't work for him
01:08:10it didn't work for him
01:08:11at Mercedes
01:08:11then he moved over
01:08:12to Ferrari
01:08:13and we were talking
01:08:13about it earlier
01:08:14with regards to Max
01:08:15it's a huge cultural
01:08:16change to just leave
01:08:17one team and go to one
01:08:19particularly Ferrari
01:08:19I think more so
01:08:20than the others
01:08:21because they're based
01:08:21in Italy most of the
01:08:22team
