00:00All right, everybody. Well, welcome to Unbothered's Talking Circle. If this is your first time with us, this circle is
00:08really about connection. It's about community. For those that aren't familiar with Unbothered, Unbothered is a platform for black women
00:14to be seen, to be heard, to be celebrated. We are a sister brand to Essence.
00:19My name is Erica Chitty. I am the SVP of brand and content for Unbothered. I joined the company back
00:26in February to bring my long background in women's health across advocacy, social impact, and technology to help evolve Unbothered
00:36from focusing on entertainment and culture to well-being and culture.
00:40So the conversation we're going to have today, I'm really excited about because I am very passionate about AI being
00:46a tool, especially for black and brown folks, to take control and to take charge of our health and to
00:52make sense of our health, very much like the last circle we just had, where you might not be close
00:57to a doctor who can interpret things for you.
00:59That's really a big place where AI can come in. Little house rules, circle rules. So there's no panel, speaker.
01:07We have different terms that we use here. So we have a keeper. I will be your keeper today.
01:12So I will keep the conversation flowing. When it's time for questions, I will bring you a mic if you
01:17need one. And then we have our anchors, like Robin. Robin is going to anchor the conversation and is going
01:23to offer up her wisdom to the circle.
01:26And then the third role is the circle itself. So that's all of you. So we want to hear from
01:31you. We want you to feel like you can be a part of this to share your knowledge with us.
01:35All right. So to kick off the circle, we always open with a clearing. So please join me. We're going
01:40to rub our hands together. And then when I count to three on three, we're going to clap.
01:44And that clearing helps to seal the field and the energy in here and keep whatever else is outside, outside.
01:49Sound good? All right. Let's go.
01:51So let's really rub as fast as we can. And I'm going to count to three. One, two, three.
02:00Now I'm going to turn it over to Robin.
02:03Hello, everyone. I'm so excited to be your anchor for this session because AI has become something that's a regular
02:11thing in my life.
02:12And I want all of us to know how we can use it.
02:15So AI, we're going to talk about using it as your health ally.
02:19OK, I'm Dr. Robin B. I actually am a pharmacist, a recovering pharmacist, turned into not only a fitness coach,
02:29but a wellness educator.
02:30And I think the transition happened way before I did it.
02:35COVID hit. I was in a rotation.
02:38I got to see a lot of things that I didn't like to see in that space.
02:44People were being pumped with medications.
02:46And it was something in me that said, you know what, let's be preventative versus reactive.
02:52So that preventative method just started running in my head.
02:56And I then experienced something tragic where my grandmother, she my mom is right here.
03:03Her mother, she actually was diagnosed with lung cancer and she had never smoked a cigarette a day in her
03:09life.
03:09Right. We've heard about things like this just randomly.
03:13And so once she was in the hospital, of course, the cancer spread.
03:18All these different things started to happening.
03:20Then we medication started to pile up and I saw that we were, you know, prescribing her things that were
03:26just for the symptoms of other things and other drugs.
03:29So that became something I was like, you know what?
03:32It would have been better if we knew early on that she had this.
03:36If we were able to treat her and be preventative, maybe with movement and things that even as pharmacists and
03:41doctors, we learn to teach our patients first.
03:44We don't tell them to run and grab the drug from the pharmacy.
03:47We say 150 minutes of movement every single week, you know, and and we're not really leading with that.
03:55So I said, you know what?
03:56This is my space to take up.
03:58And so that's what started my journey.
04:02And I just want to know, I want to ask the room by a show of hands.
04:06How many of you guys have been in a doctor's appointment and they're telling you you feel horrible and they're
04:12telling you everything's normal, everything's fine, but you know something's wrong.
04:17So, yes, okay, what about you're overwhelmed because you get home and you get your lab work and you don't
04:24know what it means and you have and they're not calling you back.
04:27Okay, it happens to all of us.
04:30What about having, you know, a family member that doesn't understand the medical jargon?
04:37They're older.
04:37They don't understand what they're diagnosed with and you have to go look it up on Google.
04:40So, anybody?
04:42All right.
04:43We've all experienced this, which means you guys are already doing the work.
04:47So AI is going to step in and actually be your ally, your partner in your health.
04:53So, okay, I want you guys to finish this sentence.
04:57I might actually go around with this one.
05:00If I had someone to help me with one health task every single week, what would it be?
05:08One single task.
05:11Can we turn up the second mic, please?
05:14Turn up the second mic, please.
05:18Understanding fluctuations in my hormones.
05:20That's a great one.
05:24You don't have to answer, just if you have something.
05:27Exercise and more.
05:29Ooh.
05:32Relieving stress at work.
05:34I love that one.
05:36Just refreshing my spaces.
05:39Yes.
05:40Amen.
05:43Increasing bone health.
05:45Wow.
05:47I love that.
05:48Nutrition.
05:51Love nutrition.
05:52I'm vegan, so, like, nutritional intake, making sure everything is, I'm getting enough of what I need.
05:58Yes.
05:58If something could magically put my pills in my hand that I have to take every day, that's what I
06:04want.
06:04We're getting there.
06:07Nutrition is definitely a top one.
06:11For me, it's time management and organization.
06:15Ooh.
06:17Being consistent.
06:19I love that.
06:22Natural remedies.
06:24Natural remedies.
06:25I love that.
06:26Everyone had an amazing, amazing answer.
06:29And AI can pretty much, besides the pills, can pretty much do all of that, you guys.
06:34And we're not saying completely put all your trust in AI.
06:38It's you as the decision maker, AI as the tool.
06:41It's just a tool.
06:43So, today, we're going to talk about just a few things.
06:46This just scratches the surface of what AI can do.
06:48But about understanding your health, that's what something that, like, AI can do.
06:54Build your AI personal trainer.
06:56Like you said, what is my workout regimen?
06:59What should I do for my goals?
07:01Plan nutrition.
07:02That's a big one.
07:03If you're vegan, whatever your dietary restrictions are, AI can help you with that.
07:08And prepare for doctor's appointments.
07:10Like we said, when you go into these doctor's appointments, you've got to be prepared.
07:14Okay?
07:15Because the average, did you guys know the average doctor's appointment with a PCP is 15 to 20 minutes?
07:21Do you guys think that you could get all your questions answered and tell them what your weight and date
07:26of birth is in 15 to 20 minutes?
07:29It's impossible.
07:30So, if you don't come prepared, and they're not used to seeing us prepared.
07:34They're used to seeing us just listening to them, taking their notes, and not knowing what to do.
07:39So, I think if we strategize and organize, we can get there.
07:43And then we have ask better questions.
07:45A big problem is we don't know how to talk to AI.
07:50We don't know.
07:51You know, we're used to chat.
07:52We're used to chat knowing us.
07:54We're like, oh, you know, all I got to do is say some simple sentence and ask it something.
07:59It's way more than that.
08:00So, I'll walk through that as well.
08:02All right.
08:03So, this is what I would start with.
08:06Okay?
08:06I'm going to get into the system that I use, that I stand by.
08:10But understanding your health.
08:12You need to prompt your AI to just have a complete vision of who you are, where you are, and
08:18where you want to go.
08:19So, it's simply things like, you know, your age, your medication, your medication history, your ethnicity, super important, your injuries,
08:29your goals, your fitness level, as well as your sleep, how you're sleeping, how many hours on average, your stress,
08:37and your labs and family history.
08:39All of that, you can program into AI so that when you ask it something in the future, it already
08:44knows who you are.
08:46So, with that, the way you prompt, particularly for something medically related, is say you are a board-certified health
08:58assistant.
08:59Right?
08:59You're acting, you have to tell the AI to act as whatever you want.
09:03If you want an author, if you want an assistant, if you want someone to do your taxes, you have
09:09to act like the expert in that field.
09:11So, that's how you start the prompt.
09:13And then, I want you guys to think about the qualities that you want in your provider.
09:19That's something that people miss.
09:21What is it that you need your provider to be?
09:24A lot of us, we want a black provider, especially if we are, you know, thinking of if we're dealing
09:29with pregnancy or OB-GYNs.
09:33We want someone that understands us and our bodies.
09:36So, think about that.
09:37What do you respond well to in the medical field?
09:41And then, you want to think about how that is going to be taken towards your goals and towards your
09:47results.
09:48So, once you go ahead and tell AI who you are, what you want, and who you want to talk
09:53to and hear from, it has a better understanding.
09:57So, has anybody heard of Claude by a show of hands?
10:01Does anyone use Claude?
10:03Every day, all day, girl.
10:04Oh, yes.
10:05The desktop or the phone?
10:07Uh-huh.
10:07All of that.
10:08All of that.
10:08All of that.
10:08She said yes.
10:09See, I love that.
10:11I think everyone in this room should be using a paid AI at this point.
10:15You know, you shouldn't be using the free GPT unless you want to, but I think when it comes to
10:21Claude, you want to pay for the services and you want to use them more often.
10:25So, have you guys heard of Claude Cowork?
10:29Okay.
10:30We have somebody.
10:31So, yes.
10:32So, there's three different features in Claude.
10:36So, first, you have the chat.
10:37That's what we all know.
10:38We think it's kind of like ChatGPT.
10:40It might be smarter.
10:41That's kind of how we think about Claude or everybody's using this one, but it's different.
10:47What the Cowork is is like a Coworker.
10:51So, you can literally think about him because we call Claude him as a Coworker.
10:55So, they're actually doing these tasks that you guys name that you want people to do.
11:00They're your agent, right?
11:02So, Cowork can actually, once you have the paid plan and you download the desktop version, that's why I have
11:07my computer here to show you guys,
11:09just a laptop, doesn't have to be a monitor.
11:12Once you go to the Cowork tab, automatically, this section is where you create your brain.
11:20Okay?
11:21So, you have all these projects.
11:24You'll see projects that you can create.
11:25And within each project, you can make it think like whatever you want.
11:29So, that's why we say the prompt that I said about what your provider should look like, maybe it's under
11:36health, right?
11:38And then that is the brain for health.
11:39And anything regarding that, you ask in that project.
11:43Okay?
11:44You can have a project about your favorite podcaster.
11:49You can download the transcripts on YouTube of everything they've ever said.
11:54I do it for Emigree, everything she's ever said.
11:58And it becomes her in AI form.
12:01Everything she would say, everything she's ever said.
12:04But think about that.
12:04That's all we have of her, right?
12:07It can take that endless amount of information and make it into a brain.
12:12So, that's your starting point, right?
12:14And you got to also think, you know, I don't know if anybody do coaching or have clients of some
12:19sort.
12:21Okay, so you have transcripts.
12:24You have calls with these clients, right?
12:26Same thing where you can kind of record those calls, put that in there, and maybe you have an action
12:30plan after you finish the call or just know what to follow up on the next time.
12:35So, it's very useful in a lot of use cases.
12:38So, that's what a brain, that's what a project is.
12:41Project equals brain.
12:44Okay.
12:46Now, a skill.
12:47A skill is where it gets very fun.
12:49And it gets very active.
12:51So, what happens is that agent, it's becoming someone who's working for you, uses that project that not only just
12:59has the information you feed it, but it also feeds from your desktop.
13:04So, you can drop files and folders into your desktop.
13:08So, it's actually in your computer if you allow it.
13:11So, that's what's really cool because, like, the first thing that I did personally was organize every single thing on
13:16my desktop.
13:17I had screenshots here and there, and I had things all over the place.
13:21I said, Claude, get to work.
13:23Get me more organized.
13:24I want this for screenshots.
13:26I want this for, you know, my documents.
13:28And it did that.
13:29All my taxes and stuff like that, it organized it.
13:33So, I asked it to do that and then start to build these projects.
13:40So, to the beautiful lady who said, you want Claude or AI to be your personal trainer.
13:48I don't know if you guys know me, but I actually have an app, okay?
13:52It's called the Ladder app.
13:53I'm one of the coaches.
13:54You can think like a Peloton competitor to this app, but it's strength training.
13:59You don't need the bike.
14:01You can take this anywhere you go.
14:02And my program specifically is dumbbell only.
14:06All you need is two dumbbells.
14:08And I promise you, you'll probably see my ads if you open up the phone one day.
14:12But what we really push is that you can be a mom, a busy worker, me coming from pharmacy knowing
14:17that I didn't have time.
14:19All I had was 30 minutes, but I wanted to keep my body active.
14:22And I knew medically that was the requirement, just 150 minutes a week.
14:27So, I don't need to spend hours in the gym.
14:30I don't need to kill myself and exhaust myself.
14:32I could just show up, okay?
14:35So, this app allows you to show up.
14:37So, that's really cool.
14:39And it's inexpensive.
14:40You know, it's a dollar a day.
14:42However, what if I told you you could build one yourself?
14:47In 20 minutes.
14:49Less than.
14:50So, if you use this Claw desktop, I will provide you guys, and you can come up to me afterwards.
14:56I will provide you guys with a prompt.
14:58What this prompt will do is tell the AI to start asking you questions.
15:02Okay?
15:03And it's already building out the dashboard.
15:08So, this is what happens in less than, I'd say, like seven minutes.
15:11It's thinking, it's thinking.
15:13And it gives you a skill.
15:15Remember that skill, like I said, is like an SOP, if you will.
15:19Like, what are we doing, and how do we get there?
15:22So, we get the skill.
15:23We save it to Claw.
15:25And then it runs these questions.
15:27It asks things like, what's your target strength?
15:30Like, or what are you trying to improve, right?
15:33Improve on.
15:34For me, I was like, oh, glute growth, you know.
15:36But I want to also lose weight.
15:38You can put whatever you want, and it'll tell you the truth.
15:42Then you have your current baselines.
15:43Then you have your schedule.
15:45What days can you show up?
15:46I only have 30 minutes.
15:48Monday, 6 a.m.
15:49Cool.
15:50You put that.
15:51You're honest.
15:52You tell it what it needs.
15:53Then you have venue.
15:54Am I in the gym?
15:55Am I at home?
15:56Am I Pilates only?
15:59Do I hate running?
16:00You also say your dislikes.
16:02You go through your injuries.
16:04And then, last but not least, your biometrics.
16:07Like, your height, your age, your weight.
16:09And then you go forward.
16:12After that, what it does is interesting.
16:14It gives you a little bit of feedback.
16:15It might have, like, okay, you can't grow glutes and lose the weight.
16:19When you're growing the glutes, you may still see that scale there.
16:23And do you guys know what body recomposition is?
16:26Okay.
16:27We have somebody.
16:27So, that is the act of building muscle and losing weight at the same time.
16:32So, you won't see that scale move.
16:35And I teach a lot of my clients.
16:36I'm like, it's not about the scale, but how are your pants fitting?
16:39Right?
16:40How do you feel?
16:41Do you have more energy?
16:41Can you get up earlier?
16:43Those are the things that fitness and physical activity do.
16:46And then, over time, it's really about that nutrition.
16:49It's really about how you're eating that's going to swing that scale, whatever way.
16:55So, what it did was, and I know you guys may not be able to see,
16:59but it popped out almost identical to my app.
17:04Okay?
17:05And I know, like, my bosses, they built this app a long time ago.
17:08But it's like, I can do this personalized to me.
17:12It's not a random workout.
17:14It's not a YouTube workout, a TikTok workout.
17:16It's not something that I just saw and saved and never going to look at again.
17:20This is something that is here, and it's all configured to me.
17:24So, it tells me, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, you're going to show up.
17:27You're going to do these movements, warm up, hip thrust.
17:30And I was like, I can get with that.
17:33And I'll give it to you new every week.
17:35So, now for the meal plan.
17:37I want to know, what is everybody's goal?
17:42Like, has their goal, has your goal changed?
17:44I know a lot of people, it used to be weight loss.
17:47But I think getting stronger is way more important than being skinny.
17:51Me, personally.
17:53Because we have so much going on in our lives that we just need to be strong for our families.
17:58We want to live long.
17:59We want to have that bone mineral density.
18:02We want to be able to be here.
18:04We want to move our bodies, not be in wheelchairs.
18:06That's what matters to us.
18:09And so, is everybody on board with that?
18:11That's, yeah.
18:12That's what we want.
18:13Longevity, right?
18:15And longevity does have to do with, you know, worrying about your bones.
18:20Grip strength.
18:21Grip strength is so important.
18:22We really take that for granted.
18:23So, that's why, like, lifting dumbbells, you know, and maybe, like, hanging on a bar for a little bit to
18:29see that grip strength.
18:30You're going to need it later on in life.
18:32You know, when you go to grab something and you physically can't, you don't want to ever feel that.
18:37So, longevity is also built into this, and AI can help you plan.
18:43That's what it is.
18:44It's your ally.
18:45All right.
18:46So, for the meal plan, what do I do?
18:48The prompt.
18:48You guys can come up to me and get the prompt.
18:50I ask it.
18:51It asks you a couple questions.
18:54And all of a sudden, can it do a meal plan?
18:58Yes.
18:58But what I think is most important is the tracking, the consistency.
19:03What am I actually, I know what I want to do.
19:05I know what I want to eat.
19:06I know that I'm not eating dairy and meat.
19:08But am I actually doing it?
19:10Am I getting my protein amount?
19:12And you've always heard people say, one gram per pound of protein a day.
19:17That's a lot.
19:19It's overwhelming.
19:21Like, I have to get in 130-something grams of protein a day.
19:26And I feel like it's hard to do.
19:29So, what if I can track that?
19:31So, you can actually use a picture, just like MyFitnessPal.
19:36You guys have heard of it, right?
19:37Just like MyFitnessPal.
19:39Write an AI for free.
19:41Done for you.
19:42By you.
19:43And you can share it with anyone that you love.
19:47So, that's something that's super important to me.
19:49And then, just last but not least, I wanted to talk about that preparing for your doctor's appointments and understanding
19:56exactly how to do that.
19:58You can organize your symptoms.
20:00You just literally, I have a skill that does a Monday brain dump.
20:05On Monday, I have all these things I want to accomplish.
20:07And I'm just like, how can I get it all done?
20:10Then, it'll organize that for you.
20:12So, in the same manner, what am I feeling and how am I feeling?
20:17Throw that in.
20:19Commas.
20:20It can be messy.
20:21As long as this brain is constructed for you and towards that task.
20:25All right?
20:26And then, you can build your question list.
20:28Say, from these symptoms, what should I ask?
20:31And then, last but not least, you can prep it with your history, like we said.
20:35Because that is something that doctors don't just ask just to ask.
20:38It actually goes into the treatment.
20:40And then, you go into the 15 to 20-minute appointment.
20:44You get what they're there to do.
20:46You get your blood work done.
20:47And then, afterwards, you want to go ahead and to Claude and paste your after visit summary.
20:53All your lab results.
20:55Everything the doctor said.
20:57You don't just throw that piece of paper away.
20:58I know a lot of us leaving in the car.
21:00We don't know what the numbers mean.
21:02We don't have to.
21:03And we don't have to understand every single thing.
21:06Just what is wrong.
21:08Where are the red flags here?
21:10Okay?
21:11Because a lot of things that the doctors do are, they're focused on things the bigger picture.
21:16But they're not looking at how low your vitamin D is.
21:20Things that, as blacks, we need to make sure that we have high vitamin D.
21:24So, I think it's really important that we do the due diligence and we double down.
21:29So, I want to just check in really quickly because we probably have about maybe another three minutes before we
21:35have to close the circle.
21:37Is there anything anyone here wants to share?
21:40It can be a reaction.
21:41It can be a question.
21:43Because I know for a lot of people, you know, still right now, I think only about 5% of
21:49the population is utilizing AI on a daily basis.
21:53Or knowingly using it, right?
21:55Like, right now, if you type into Google, you are using AI.
21:58That's happening.
21:59But actively using it in the way that Robin is talking about or in the way that I use it.
22:04So, with that said, any questions or reflections on the things that Robin shared?
22:09And I can bring you the mic if you have anything to say.
22:17I have been using AI as far as health care for my granddaughter, actually.
22:22Because she has sickle cell.
22:23And just trying to understand and learn more things that the doctor is explaining to me about her health.
22:28So, it helps me to better understand medications and treatments and things like that.
22:33I love that.
22:35Can we give her a round of applause for that?
22:36That's how you're supposed to use it.
22:38Exactly.
22:39I love it.
22:40Anybody else?
22:44Okay.
22:47And then after this, y'all, we're going to close the circle.
22:51Hi.
22:51Just as a person that has kind of committed to living a life of purpose, you know, it's a borderline
23:02of accepting what is and then working against the greater good.
23:08And, you know, I understand that we really don't have a choice, but at the same time, like, at what
23:16point do we just accept that we must all collectively work towards, like, what will result in a continuum for
23:26us?
23:26Yes, because it is a compromise, and it's kind of like we're not, you know, focusing on our children inheriting
23:36a life better and more so of forcing what we're being forced to accept.
23:44I love that.
23:45That is valid, very valid and a normal feeling.
23:49And I think it just, like you said, it's unavoidable right now, and I think we need to be ahead
23:56of the wave.
23:57I think a lot of times, us as African Americans, we kind of jump on the boat last, and the
24:02boat has already sailed.
24:03But guess what we always have?
24:04We're always grounded.
24:05We always know where our true help comes from, and we always know how to find our center.
24:10And I think as long as I said you are the decision maker, and it's just a tool, and it's
24:15not forming your choices, it's just helping you organize them.
24:18That's all.
24:19Great question.
24:21Thank you, everybody.
24:22Okay.
24:23Robin, thank you so much.
24:25I'm excited to keep having this conversation beyond this moment.
24:28For anyone that's joining us for the first time or just walked in, we're going to close the circle.
24:33To close the circle, we rub our hands together.
24:35We create a little bit of energy between our hands.
24:41And we let that happen at the same time.
24:44And I'm going to count until three, and on three we'll clap.
24:48And that clap just keeps the energy here and lets you walk out into the rest of your day.
24:52Okay, let's go.
24:53One, two, three.
24:57Thank you all.
24:59Thank you all.
