00:00Since the earthquake struck Venezuela on June 24, the national government together with the people's power
00:05has continued to provide comprehensive assistance in temporary camps.
00:09The spaces have become not only places of physical shelter, but also strongholds of psychological healing and resilience.
00:16Our colleague Andrea Romero has the details.
00:33I'm calmer now, but I lost everything. Everything.
00:38I ran out wearing only a pair of shorts and my bra.
00:42Thank goodness I grabbed a blouse and put it on before they got me out.
00:46I said, my God, thank you that I'm alive. And then I started to cry.
00:51For Carmen, memories of the disaster are still vivid.
00:55It took me hours to get out from under the rubble, honey.
01:00Under the rubble, God was always on my mind.
01:04I was very calm.
01:07Even though I was trapped because they pulled me out of a hole.
01:11Solidarity and coexistence in this temporary space bring back.
01:15joy as a powerful tool for healing.
01:18It's wonderful. I have no complaints about anyone.
01:22We've been sharing together here and I even have a singer with me.
01:26I love to dance.
01:29The singer is Lina.
01:44Ash made a last minute decision.
01:47That kept her away from the collapsed zone.
01:50I was out buying medicine.
01:54And I told the friend who was helping me, let's go.
01:58I'm heading home to sleep because as they say, there was a party going on downstairs.
02:05Then, as we were passing near my house, I said, no, let's go back and keep dancing, keep joking, and
02:10then we'll come back later.
02:12Less than five minutes passed.
02:13If I had gone home, I wouldn't be here to tell this story.
02:20The attendee Marzo educational unit in the Carlos Sublet Parish has also been set up as a temporary camp by
02:27the local community organization.
02:32My apartment is badly damaged. It's completely cracked.
02:38Since we all live in the same area, the neighbors from Block 1 decided to take over this school,
02:44and we organized ourselves into committees for maintenance and kitchen duties.
02:50Eventually, the authorities became aware and stepped in to provide support.
02:55The assistance has been excellent.
02:58Of course, it's not the same as being in our homes.
03:01We're sharing rooms with other neighbors.
03:04But in terms of food, medical care, health services, sports and recreation, everything is fully provided here at this center.
03:14Those who survived are channeling the psychological impact.
03:17By providing support through core committees and also by maintaining faith in new beginnings.
03:24I'm doing my part here, helping as well, even though I'm in shock after surviving death.
03:31I used to have an active life and I felt happy.
03:36Because when you start from zero and reach a goal, you feel happy.
03:40Now I have to start over from zero again.
03:43But if God gave me the opportunity to survive, I will start again with all the love of God.
03:52Against the force of nature, the community and institutional response is building.
03:57In these temporary camps, a refuge of resilience and shared hope.
