00:07all right everybody welcome back ready for another deep dive let's do it okay so today
00:14we're tackling something i think we all have a love-hate relationship with presentations
00:19oh yeah love to hate them you got that right but uh you know i think we all kind of
00:27just accept
00:27that powerpoint is the go-to like it's just what you use right it's been the default for so long
00:33yeah for sure yeah but get this the research we dug into it's saying that powerpoint's reign
00:38might be coming to an end yeah it's kind of wild actually because it's not really just about the
00:43software itself it's about how we're working differently these days oh totally so one of
00:47the big things our sources all pointed to was that powerpoint just isn't very good for interactivity
00:52yeah i mean think about it have you ever sat through a presentation that just felt like a
00:57total lecture oh yeah all the time you're just stuck listening to someone drone on and on with
01:01bullet points and you can't like ask questions or really get involved totally and that's where
01:05powerpoint falls short it's all about that linear format you go from one slide to the next there's
01:10not a lot of room for back and forth it's not a conversation at all right exactly and another
01:15thing collaboration like trying to work on a powerpoint deck with other people it's a nightmare
01:21sometimes emailing files back and forth trying to figure out who has the latest version it's a mess
01:26and especially with remote work being so common now yeah it's just not ideal nope okay and then
01:32on top of all that let's be honest most powerpoint presentations are just plain boring to look at
01:39have you ever felt that like you're just overloaded with visuals and text on these slides oh yeah
01:44absolutely i think we're just bombarded with so much visual content these days that our brains are
01:49kind of tuning out visual fatigue it's a real thing yeah and because of all this there's a ton of
01:55new
01:55presentation tools popping up that are trying to do things differently it's exciting actually it is
02:00there's a lot of innovation happening in this space okay so first up we got to talk about canva
02:04this one's become super popular lately i mean i've even seen my mom using it yeah canva's huge and for
02:10good reason it's just so easy to use even if you have zero design skills you can create something that
02:15looks really professional yeah it's like they took all the scary parts out of design and they have so
02:20many templates and images and stuff built right in exactly and the drag and drop interface is so
02:25intuitive so easy yeah okay so canva's all about making things look good right but then there's prezi
02:31which is like a whole different way of presenting oh yeah it's not about slides at all it's like this
02:36big zoomable canvas yeah you can move around your ideas in a non-linear way which is pretty cool
02:43it can be really effective but it's definitely something you need to plan carefully you don't want
02:47people getting motion sickness from all the zooming around i've definitely seen some prezi
02:52presentations go off the rails yeah you gotta use it strategically all right now for those of you who
02:57love to collaborate google slides is a must oh yeah especially if you're working remotely yeah you can
03:03all be in the same document at the same time making edits it's a game changer for teamwork and for
03:09those
03:09of you who are like show me the numbers i need data there's pitch ah yes this one's got some
03:15really
03:15cool analytics built in so you can actually see how people are engaging with your presentation
03:20like which slides they spend the most time on that kind of stuff yeah it gives you really valuable
03:25insights into what's resonating with your audience and what you might need to adjust
03:29it's like having a secret spy in the room with you exactly it helps you fine-tune your message for
03:34maximum impact all right so we've covered some of the more well-known presentation tools
03:40but get this our research also found that some unexpected players are entering the game
03:46miro and figma oh interesting yeah these are tools that are usually used for like whiteboarding
03:52and design yeah i use miro all the time for brainstorming with my team it's a great way to
03:57get everyone's ideas out in the open and figma is incredibly powerful for web design and ux but it's
04:03interesting to see them being used for presentations it is like i think what's happening is people are
04:07realizing that these tools are really good for creating interactive and visual presentations
04:12especially for things like workshops or brainstorms or presentations where you want a lot of audience
04:17participation yeah because they're so flexible yeah you can do so much with them yeah speaking of
04:22breaking the mold we got to talk about video right i mean everyone's obsessed with video these days
04:28for good reason and it's making its way into the world of presentations too absolutely tools like loom
04:33are changing the way we think about presentations loom is really cool because it lets you record your
04:38screen and yourself at the same time so you can basically create a video presentation that people
04:44can watch whenever they want it's a great option for complex topics or for tutorials or if you just
04:50want to explain something in a more engaging way yeah so it's kind of like the next evolution of
04:54presentations yeah going from those static slides to something that's more dynamic and interactive
05:00exactly and i think this shift is being driven by a bunch of factors like the rise of remote work
05:06obviously yeah and the fact that people are just used to consuming information in a more visual and
05:12engaging way right we want to be entertained exactly we want to be drawn in yeah and we want to
05:16be able
05:17to interact with the content so it's not that powerpoint is suddenly useless but it's definitely facing
05:23some stiff competition from these newer tools so i think the big takeaway here is that the way we present
05:28is changing and it's changing fast powerpoint might still have a place but the future of
05:34presentations is all about finding the tools that work best for you and your audience exactly and
05:41it's about using those tools to tell your story in the most compelling way possible that's what it's
05:46all about and that's what i think is really exciting about this shift there's so much potential
05:50for creativity and innovation all right so that wraps up our deep dive into the world of presentations
05:56so here's a question to leave you with with all these new tools and approaches popping up
06:03what will you prioritize when you're putting together your next presentation
06:07what story do you want to tell and what tool will help you tell it in the most impactful way
06:12great question food for thought our folks thanks for joining us until next time
06:17you
