I give a rundown of many hints present in Penny Marshall's 1992 Woman's baseball comedy A League Of Their Own (1992) to Wes Anderson's Asteroid City (2023):
- Tom Hanks played Rockford Peaches team manger in League & Stanley in Asteroid City.
- Tea Leoni plays for a rival team in League & may be a major tip off to extra planetary rocks in that she had a part in Deep Impact in 1998. The subject of this film involved a 7 mile wide comet hitting the Earth.
- A connection to the "League" of A League Of Their Own, Ben Affleck acted in the other rival film released in 1998 using this concept: Armageddon. He would later play DC Comic Book superhero Batman in several movies, including Justice League in 2017.
- Rosie O'Donnell was later in The Flintstones (1994) with John Goodman & he in-turn co-starred with Jeff Bridges in The Big Leboowski (1998).
- Jeff Bridges really ties this theory together, as he played an an alien stranded on Earth in John Carpenter's Starman in 1984.
- Charles Martin Smith pursued Karen Allen & Bridges in this story which winds up at the Meteor Crater near Flagstaff / Winslow Arizona.
- This goes back to A League Of Their Own director Penny Marshall, who co-starred with actress Cindy Williams in '70's TV sitcom Laverne & Shirley. Williams & Charles Martin Smith were part of the cast of the George Lucas teen comedy American Graffiti ('73).

00:00Alright, so 30 years following the release of Penny Marshall's women's baseball comedy, A League of Their Own, 1992.
00:11Actor Tom Hanks, who plays the team manager, would have a part in the Wes Anderson-directed sci-fi comedy,
00:20Asteroid City.
00:21Yeah, while watching A League of Their Own, I could pick up own references to this film, and it's rather
00:31intricate.
00:32Taylor Leone has a part as a rival team member. Her presence really tipped me off.
00:37In 1998, she was in Deep Impact, one of two major Hollywood movies released that year, which dealt with the
00:47subject of an extraplanetary body, a giant rock, in this case, a seven-mile-wide comets collision with the Earth.
00:58Steven Spielberg was executive producer on this, and other cast members, Robert Duvall, Elijah Wood, Maximilian Schell, and Morgan Freeman.
01:06Now, to the league of A League of Their Own, you can look at the other rival films on the
01:14same story basis, Armageddon.
01:16This cast featured Bruce Willis, Billy Bob Thornton, Liv Tyler, and Ben Affleck.
01:22He later played DC comic book superhero Batman, and was in the 2017 ensemble superhero team movie Justice League, along
01:34with Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, and Jason Momoa.
01:39Rosie O'Donnell was later in the 94 comedy adaptation of the Hanna-Barbera cartoon The Flintstones.
01:47She played Betty Rubble, Kyle McLaughlin, Elizabeth Perkins, Rick Moranis, and John Goodman, also in this cast.
01:54A major asteroid link I could think of here.
01:58Goodman was later in the 98 comedy The Big Lebowski with Julian Moore, Steve Buscemi, and Jeff Bridges.
02:08Here things really get interesting because Bridges, of course, was in the 84 sci-fi romance Starman.
02:16The climax of this story takes place near the meteor crater Flagstaff in Winslow, Arizona.
02:25Karen Allen and Charles Martin Smith, also in this cast, this links back to League of Their Own director Penny
02:32Marshall.
02:34Smith played Terry Toad in the 1973 George Lucas teen comedy American Graffiti.
02:41Also in this cast, Cindy Williams.
02:45Williams formed part of the television sitcom duo Laverne and Shirley, along with Penny Marshall.
