00:00Three Latin American countries in three days. Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil.
00:06The German Foreign Minister is looking for two things.
00:10Critical raw materials and partners in Latin America.
00:14But the Germans are late to the game.
00:17We are late, but not too late.
00:20I think we have waited for us.
00:23We have to look at where Germany and Europe find new global partners.
00:28And there is South America a continent that is currently available.
00:32There are resources that we need.
00:34Critical minerals, materials, seldom earth. All that is there.
00:38And the experts have a great interest in Germany and Europe.
00:42Everyone knows the strength of the German technology.
00:47We have natural resources.
00:48There is a very important strategic complementation.
00:52But above all, there is also a political complementation.
00:57But there is a powerful rival.
00:59China has already invested heavily and forged alliances.
01:04You can see it on the streets of Brazil.
01:07German business leaders are part of the minister's delegation.
01:11Many of them are looking for deals to get their hands on critical raw materials for manufacturing in Germany.
01:18But most places they go, the Chinese were already there.
01:22Of course, the Chinese are far ahead.
01:24But the Chinese are far ahead in many places.
01:26They have developed their strategies a long, long time ago.
01:29And we have not noticed or we didn't want to notice.
01:33But it's now time for us to do more.
01:36Look at Latin America and try to see opportunities here.
01:41German politicians still see more potential here than in many other regions.
02:05To make that potential come true is also the foreign minister's job.
02:10It's high pressure diplomacy.
02:13At stake are Germany's wealth and influence.
02:16The US is no longer a reliable partner.
02:20Russia is a threat.
02:22And China controls a lot of the critical raw material and the rare minerals that Germany needs for its industrial
02:31production.
02:31So, the German foreign minister, Johan Waddeful, is on a worldwide mission to create a network of middle powers that
02:40can help each other.
02:41And one crucial part of that is here in Latin America.
