00:00China's EV makers are moving fast and BYD is pushing hard into global markets.
00:08The updated ATO3 EVO aims to prove it can compete with established players.
00:15So we took the ATO3 EVO out on city streets, country roads and the highway to see where
00:21it shines and where it falls short.
00:25While driving, you immediately notice two things.
00:29One is the weight and two is the power.
00:32The weight you can notice when you go a little bit faster into corners.
00:35You can feel, yeah, you can't trick the physics.
00:38Even though the car is electric, it has a lot of power, it has a lot of torque.
00:43It doesn't matter.
00:45You can feel the weight.
00:46You can't take it away.
00:48It's just physics, as you know.
00:50But all in all, the car really, really drives good, as I would suggest, because it's really,
00:55really comfortable on the street.
00:57The suspension is really, really soft.
00:59The steering is not the sharpest, as I told you before, but it shouldn't be the sharpest.
01:03It's more on the comfortable side.
01:04And for people who will drive this car every day, I think they will be really, really happy
01:11if they drive the BYD Atto because of the power-to-weight ratio.
01:20In terms of performance, you get two options with the BYD Atto 3 Evo.
01:25You can get it with rear-wheel drive and 313hp or you go with the all-wheel drive version
01:31and then you get up to 449hp and 560 Nm of torque.
01:37As I told you before, this is enough to get you from 0 to 100 in 3.9 seconds.
01:42I think this is really, really quick for a family SUV and if you take a closer look at
01:48it in comparison, even if you go on the autobahn and want to drive fast, you can do it with
01:54that car.
01:54Because top speed of that version is 180 km with the rear-wheel drive.
01:59With the all-wheel drive, you get up to 200 km per top speed.
02:02I think that's enough for every highway or autobahn you will drive.
02:08But performance is only one side of the equation.
02:11For an EV, efficiency matters just as much, especially when it comes to real-world range.
02:18When we talk about the consumption of the BYD Atto 3 Evo, yeah?
02:23Yeah, I can tell you 16 to 18 kWh per 100 km.
02:27This is officially from BYD, yeah?
02:30If you drive a little bit faster, the figure will noticeably get higher as well.
02:36But I think we have got a consumption today of 16.1 kWh per 100 km and I think this
02:43is a
02:44real, really efficient car.
02:56Visually, the BYD Atto 3 Evo changed quite a bit.
03:00It's not that much of a revolution.
03:03I would say it's more of an evolution.
03:04You can see it looks a little bit more dynamic.
03:06You have new bumpers, a little bit more of the lines here.
03:10You can see it's a little bit more dynamic and even at the back, you can see it's more
03:15sporty.
03:15It's grown up a little.
03:17All in all, it really fits this compact segment of SUVs because you have a length of 4m
03:23and 42 and a wheelbase of 2m and 72.
03:26So I think it fits this segment really, really good because it's not too big, but it's not
03:32too small.
03:33So perfectly for the family.
03:38Technically, it gets really, really interesting with the BYD Atto 3 Evo because we have got
03:44a new platform.
03:45It's called the e-Platform 3.0.
03:47More efficiency, as I told you before, over 500 km of range and we have got 800 volt technology.
03:55That means we can charge the 74.8 kWh battery in around 25 minutes from 10 to 80% because
04:03we
04:04have a charging peak of 220 kW in ideal conditions.
04:08But in reality, this isn't most of the time the case.
04:13Fast charging is important on longer trips, but in everyday use, practicality matters just
04:18as much.
04:20When we talk about a compact SUV like the BYD Atto 3 Evo, we talk about boot capacity, of
04:26course.
04:27We have got 490 liters of boot capacity.
04:30If you fold down the rear seats, it gets over 1,000 liters.
04:33I think this fits this segment of the compact SUV really, really well because, in addition,
04:39you have got a 100 liter frunk in the front.
04:42Inside the Atto 3 Evo clearly puts technology front and center.
04:49In the inside of the BYD Atto 3 Evo, there is a lot of cool technology.
04:54You have got real buttons, as you can hear.
04:56And they work pretty good.
04:58And you have got heated seats even in the back.
05:00You have got a head-up display.
05:02You have got a big driver's display.
05:03And all in all, I would say, yeah, it's really, really tech-oriented, but it's more like…
05:09I don't know how to tell you.
05:11I think it's lacking a little bit of emotion in the inside just because it has everything
05:17you need, but yeah, something is missing for me.
05:25And that pretty much sums up this car.
05:29It may not win you over emotionally, but it makes a strong case with logic and usability.
05:37So, overall, the BYD Atto 3 Evo, I would say, it's not the most emotional car I've ever
05:44driven.
05:45But it's really practical.
05:46You have got a lot of space.
05:48You have got a lot of power.
05:49You have got the newest technology with you and a price which is pretty reasonable.
05:55And if you take a closer look and compare it to different car brands, there are not many
05:59cars in that category with that much power you could buy.
06:03I really liked it and I think the BYD Atto 3, it is a good thing for the future.
06:10To sum up, the BYD Atto 3 Evo offers generous equipment, solid build quality and strong range
06:17in battery performance at an attractive price.
06:21But intrusive driver assists, confusing menus and rather artificial steering take some of the
06:27the way to shine off an otherwise impressive package.
