00:00The boss scam. Make sure you don't fall for it. India's cyber crime agency I4C is warning about a quickly
00:06spreading new cyber fraud. But what exactly is happening? Fraudsters email or send WhatsApp messages to company executives. They pretend
00:14to be from RBI or some other government authority. The message claims that there is an urgent compliance or security
00:20issue. And to fix it, they ask company executives to download a zip file. And you guessed it, the zip
00:27file contains malware.
00:28Once opened, hackers can gain access to executives' computer and WhatsApp account. Now, using the CEO's real account or a
00:37fake profile that looks identical, they then send urgent messages to finance team or other employees, asking them to transfer
00:44money immediately. Those who think that the message is real make the transfer.
00:48The I4C hasn't released any official figures yet. But according to recent reports, two Indian companies have already lost a
00:55combined 3.5 crore rupees to the boss scam.
00:59Now, most importantly, how can you protect yourself from this scam or any other?
01:03Always, always, always verify payment requests with a phone call or in person.
01:09And never, never, never, never open zip files from unknown sources.
01:13But if it is not your best day and you do fall for it, immediately call the cyber helpline number
01:181930 or go to the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal and register your complaint.
01:24Also, make sure you send this video to your colleagues and maybe even your boss.
