00:00My name is Patience Nyange. I serve as the Executive Director Association of Media Women in Kenya.
00:05I'm a journalist, a media practitioner with at least 18 years working experience now.
00:10We are a membership organization that is based in Nairobi or with its headquarters in Nairobi.
00:14We have about 500 members spread across the country in the various 47 counties of Kenya.
00:21Our members are members working within the media sector, be it in radio, TV, digital, print,
00:27as well as in the, you know, content creators in the digital space content creators.
00:32One of the issues or some of the issues that, you know, we face as media organization as why we're
00:36here,
00:37we want to promote a gender responsive society.
00:39We're looking at some of the issues that affect women working in this space and women in general.
00:43These issues include sexual harassment conversations, female gentle mutilation.
00:49It also includes online violence that has really been strife now and that is really changing.
00:54Women in economic empowerment are conversations that we are having and trying to see how we can increase the space
00:59for women
01:00and give them really dignity.
01:01So these are some of the challenges that we have been experiencing lately.
01:04And of course, it gets worse when women are leaving the newsroom because of, you know,
01:09lack of space or the media space shrinking and them feeling like they can't go beyond some level.
01:15So we are here as an organization to continue giving an opportunity for women working within the media space
01:21to feel like they have a home.
01:23So we bring together our expertise.
01:27We bring together all the professionals in the media.
01:30We mentor the young people who are doing the industry now.
01:32We also try and create a space that we can ensure that we have women in these conversations,
01:37whether in our communities or in the public space as well as within the media space.
01:42We vas a now go to our office.
01:45We're here as leaders.
01:45Grazie.
