00:00Just a few moments ago, a miracle unfolded in La Guaira State, where rescue teams managed to pull out 46
00:09-year-old Hernán Hill from under the rubble alive.
00:13At this moment, our correspondent Belén de los Santos is currently in La Guaira and will give us more details
00:21about these rescue operations.
00:26Hello, Lorena. Exactly as you were saying, we were talking before when we contacted a few hours ago about the
00:33fact that the rescue teams continue to operate even though it's passed a week since the two earthquakes that struck
00:40La Guaira.
00:41We were saying the rescue teams, the Venezuelan organizations, both national and international, have said and have said for all
00:48these days that the rescue operations would continue nonstop until every chance and every sign of life was completely attended.
00:59And the miracles do happen and they continue to happen even though there has been eight days between the two
01:08earthquakes of June 24th and today.
01:11As you were saying, Hernán Hill was one of the most recent rescuees in this, in Katia Lamar, in the
01:19other side of La Guaira, from where we are right now.
01:22We are actually heading there, but our colleague Madeleine Garcia was at the moment the possibility that the teleser coverage
01:31of being here 24-7 in both languages,
01:34being able to just give an all-comprehensive read of what is happening both at the rescue sites and also
01:43at the assistance points where the population of La Guaira,
01:48that is so much affected by these earthquakes, is being cared for in different ways.
01:53In this case, we were talking, as you were saying, about a miracle rescue, Hernán RÃos, Hernán Gil, I'm sorry,
02:01that happened in Katia Lamar.
02:03He was rescued by the brigades from the fire squad from Chile alongside with the Venezuelan organizations as well and
02:13an international effort.
02:15This is what we're seeing at the different sites. The brigades are working together from the different countries, aiding the
02:21Venezuelan effort.
02:23Every brigade has a special skill with which they can aid and support this rescue operations, and in this case,
02:32the Chilean team.
02:33So, with a lot of experience in this kind of structures and events, we're the ones to lead this rescue
02:42that luckily had Hernán Gil coming out alive with his wife waiting outside.
02:49And this is just one more episode of what is happening, not the only rescue operation happening right now.
02:56We are just hearing about a new situation here close to where we are in, and of course, we will
03:03continue to monitor that as well.
03:06Melena, as we were saying, this rescue has become a symbol of hope, not only for the Venezuelan people, also
03:13for the international community that has all his eyes up in Venezuela right now at this moment.
03:19And what does this moment tell us? To put our audience in this context, what does this rescue tells us
03:27about the determination of all the rescue teams to keep searching despite all the difficulties, despite all the time that
03:37has been passing at this moment?
03:41I think that this, Lorena, tells us a little bit of what the spirit is down here, even though the
03:48strategy has had so many victims and the families continue to wait alongside the rescue teams, both Venezuela and international
03:58teams.
03:59The fact that there was a decision to commit every effort to save as many lives as possible and that
04:07this would not stop at the 72 hour mark, you know that specialized teams and experts usually point to the
04:1572 hour mark as the moment in which the chances of rescuing people alive are really slim after that.
04:23But, of course, we are eight days after the earthquakes and we see the determination of all teams, the organizations,
04:31the international effort that I say again is this joint effort between the brigades that are bringing their experience and
04:40their skills with the Venezuelan forces on the ground that are present in every rescue site
04:47and the determination of not stopping, not stopping until every last sign of life is cared for and attended to
04:56and that is what we are seeing.
04:58I was talking to you right now about a possible case that is unfolding right now also here in the
05:05Corales area of La Guaira where after going back to a site where the rescue teams had worked,
05:12one of the teams identified a possible noise as a possible sign of life, so they brought out all the
05:20teams there and hours later they confirmed what they are describing as a sign of life.
05:25Of course, that means that there are hours of work ahead, but the teams are in full deployment right now
05:33and that is what is happening at different rescue sites.
05:36It really shows determination of focusing on the possibility of rescuing every last life possible while at the same time
05:46a lot of people is also working not only at the rescue sites but also at the temporary camps,
05:54at the mobile hospitals, at every point that has been destined to aid and support those who have survived.
06:02We are seeing, for example, medical teams and other forms of attention teams that are going back and forth the
06:09roads that speaks of this rescue operations that are ongoing.
06:13Thank you so much, Belen. I think that gives us the view that the Venezuelan government, that the Venezuelan people
06:20will not surrender in this situation.
06:22And as you were saying, we will keep all the updates on the current situation you were mentioning in Cate
06:28de la Mar and also in where you are right now at this moment.
06:33But right now we continue with more information from La Guaire State, which was the heat hottest by the June
06:4024 earthquakes.
