00:00Ryan O'Bray spent seven years saving lives as a paramedic in Sheppey.
00:04After his suicide, his friends, family and colleagues wanted to do something that reflected
00:09the life he lived.
00:11So they set up a fundraiser for first aid training and defibrillators in the local community.
00:15And today the first one was installed.
00:18This is just one of five defibrillators that Rob and Lisa are putting across the Isle of
00:22Sheppey in memory of Ryan so that his legacy of saving lives can continue.
00:26We're also going to have a second one that's going to go up at the Hearty Ferry, that's
00:31on the Isle of Sheppey as well, they're all on the Isle of Sheppey, the Ashcroft caravan
00:36site, also Seacliff Holiday Park as well and also the ambulance service itself.
00:43He was a really good paramedic, an absolutely fantastic paramedic.
00:48So it just symbolises everything about my son who was a selfless person, all he wanted to
00:53do was save people's lives, so it's lovely to be able to put these defibrillators in
00:58so that we can gather the data off of them when they've been used and Ryan still is saving
01:04people's lives in theory.
01:06The work Ryan's parents have been putting in is so that his death can bring something
01:10positive and with the community behind them, these efforts do not go unseen.
01:14I do champion the cause of basic life support here at the club and at many other places
01:20and I do run first aid courses so I'm going to provide more courses now that we've got
01:25this machine here for the members of the club.
01:28I'm in the Coast Guard Rescue Service and I'm a practitioner in Advanced Casualty Care and
01:34I teach that to the Coast Guard teams as well.
01:37I run first aid courses so and I was also an ambulance responder at the same station that
01:44Ryan was at, at Sheppey.
01:46And so yeah, I've used these for real on many, many occasions and they are fantastic bits of
01:51kit.
01:52I want people to remember Ryan for the person that he was, not for how he died because
01:59when Ryan was here he did a lot of good.
02:02You know, he, he saved so many people's lives that are walking around the Swellway area,
02:07around Sheppey, around Medway.
02:10He saved a lot of lives.
02:11He was a really, really, really, really selfless lad.
02:16And I just want people to remember Ryan for the funny, kind person that he, that he was,
02:23not for how he died because he wouldn't want that.
02:26Ryan spent years helping people when they needed it most.
02:29So this device now at the golf club and the others that are going to be put in place means
02:34that his legacy can continue by helping the community he served.
