00:00911, what is your emergency? You had to take me on all at once.
00:05Well, I'm going to take you on by myself.
00:08It started just after 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon in the town of Granby.
00:12This is when we first arrived on the scene, and it looked like officers were firing some pretty heavy arms
00:17at us.
00:18Hello, my name is Marvin Heemeyer. Enough is enough.
00:22I'm not going to take it anymore.
00:25A quiet town destroyed? When we hear the word bulldozer, what usually comes to mind is a very powerful machine
00:34used in construction and demolition of buildings.
00:37But in the hands of Marvin Heemeyer, a bulldozer became more than just an ordinary machine.
00:43He turned it into a weapon of revenge, an armored vehicle that caused intense fear and massive destruction.
00:52But how did it come to this point? A former Air Force veteran?
00:56In the middle of the state of Colorado lies the small but beautiful town of Granby.
01:01It is known for its peaceful way of life, breathtaking scenery, and a community where almost everyone knows each other.
01:08Here, Marvin Heemeyer, a skilled welder and former member of the Air Force, chose to start a new life.
01:15In 1992, he bought two hectares of land where he built his own muffler shop.
01:22Marvin was known as hardworking, skilled in designing and repairing machines, and always ready to help anyone in need.
01:30Because of this, many people had great respect for him.
01:34But behind his quiet life, a serious conflict was slowly brewing.
01:39His next conflict with some powerful personalities in town ultimately pushed him to the brink of desperation.
01:46These events marked the beginning of an act of revenge that would shake all of Granby.
01:52Who were the people he clashed with?
01:54And how did it all lead to one of the most well-known incidents in the town's history?
01:59But before we begin, if you're new to our channel, make sure to subscribe so you'll always be updated with

02:09Marvin's dream of living a quiet life in Granby slowly crumbled when a serious conflict erupted between him and the
02:15influential Dashef family.
02:18It all started when Marvin managed to acquire a valuable lot that Cody Dashef was planning to buy.
02:24This land was right next to his muffler shop.
02:27The simple sale of land became the seed for the events that would later lead to the creation of what
02:33would be called the Killdozer.
02:35The Dashef family planned to use that land to build a concrete batch plant.
02:40But for Marvin, this was a big problem because if the project pushed through, his customers would almost lose access
02:48to his business.
02:49As time went on, the conflict between the two sides only deepened.
02:53At first, Marvin agreed to sell his land to Cody Dashef for $200,000 and $250,000.
02:58But as the tension grew, he suddenly withdrew from the agreement.
03:02He repeatedly raised his asking price until it reached the huge amount of $1 million.
03:08At this point, any possibility of a proper discussion between both sides was completely destroyed.
03:15In 2001, Marvin's greatest fear came true.
03:19The zoning commission and town officials approved the construction of a concrete plant despite his strong opposition.
03:25For Marvin, this was a clear betrayal and a great injustice.
03:30He didn't give up right away.
03:31He spent a lot.
03:33He spent around $150,000 on various legal cases to stop the project and overturn the town's decision.
03:41But all his appeals failed.
03:43In the end, he almost ran out of savings and his emotions and hope were slowly destroyed.
03:49Out of desperation, Marvin asked for support from the residents of Granby.
03:53He circulated petitions hoping that there would be allies who would fight with him.
03:57But he experienced the opposite.
04:00Almost no one responded to his call.
04:03The silence of the community only deepened his feelings of loneliness and disappointment.
04:08And as if everything he had gone through was not enough.
04:11He was also fined by the town of Granby more than $2,500 for various alleged violations, including storing old
04:21vehicles on his property.
04:23Marvin insisted that these were not junk.
04:26Those vehicles were part of his custom muffler business and were used for his work.
04:30He even accused the local government of deliberately cutting off his electricity and other utilities to make it easier to
04:38build the concrete plant.
04:40As each day passed, he felt more and more cornered and had nowhere else to turn.
04:45In one of his audio recordings, he poured out all his grievances, saying it was because of your anger,
04:52because of your ill intentions, and because of your rage, you don't want to give me a chance to make
04:58peace.
04:59So now I believe I will leave this world with a huge debt to you.
05:03A debt that can never be repaid until the day of final judgment.
05:07That is when we will know what the true price of all this will be.
05:12Those words clearly reflect the depth of his desperation and seem to serve as a warning about the drastic step
05:19he was about to take.
05:20As his world slowly crumbled, he completely hid behind silence.
05:24There, in his mind, a plan for revenge began to form against those he believed had ruined his life.
05:32The skilled welder, Marvin, quietly carried out a plan that would shake the entire town of Gramby,
05:39while no one noticed he was gradually modifying his Komatsu bulldozer.
05:44In his silence, the once ordinary machine was being turned into a terrifying vehicle that would later be known as
05:51Killdozer.
05:53But before we find out how this controversial vehicle was created, let's first look back at the life of the
05:59man behind it.
06:01Before the Killdozer was born, there was Marvin Heemeyer, a man whose life experiences shaped the path he would take.
06:08He was born in October 1951 in South Dakota.
06:13As he grew up, he honed his skills as an excellent welder and later served in the United States Air
06:19Force.
06:20His experience in the military taught him discipline, resourcefulness, and the belief that he himself is in control of the
06:29direction of his life.
06:30Beliefs that would later become a big part of his decisions.
06:33In one of his audio recordings, he clearly expressed his belief that I am the second captain of my life.
06:41God is the first, I am the second.
06:44And as his story went on, his statements became even more intense.
06:49According to him, you tried to control my life.
06:53You thought you had the right to dictate how I should live.
06:56You are not the ones who will decide how much I will earn, what I want, or what is right
07:01for me.
07:02Only God and I will determine how to live.
07:05I am not a slave to any person.
07:07I am a slave only to God and his will.
07:10After he left the Air Force, Marvin discovered his true passion, welding.
07:14He didn't know that this skill would be the key to building the machine that would later become the symbol
07:19of one of the most famous acts of revenge in history.
07:23In 1991, at the age of 38, he took a six-month vacation in the beautiful place of Grand Lake,
07:29Colorado.
07:30That temporary vacation turned into a permanent stay because he was immediately captivated by the beautiful scenery and the peaceful
07:37community of the place.
07:39Because of his deep love for the place, he bought two hectares of land near West Motor Road in Granby.
07:45In 1992, he dedicated almost all of his savings, approximately $50,000, to buy that land.
07:52There, he built his own muffler shop.
07:55He left his previous job as a mechanic and bravely started his own business.
08:00He devoted all his time, energy, and dedication to it.
08:03It didn't take long for Marvin to be known as a hardworking, friendly, and reliable person.
08:09He often helped those in need without expecting anything in return.
08:13For him, friendship and good relationships were very important.
08:17According to those who knew him, he was cheerful, easy to get along with, and naturally talented in engineering.
08:24He also loved exploring nature and enjoying outdoor activities.
08:28But despite his kind personality, he also had one undeniable trait.
08:33He spoke directly and wasn't afraid to argue when he believed he was right.
08:39He didn't beat around the bush and never backed down from any challenge.
08:44As his conflict with the local officials intensified, this trait became even more apparent.
08:50Some people even said that Marvin was someone you shouldn't cross.
08:55This warning seemed to foreshadow the tragedy that would happen a few years later.
08:59As he isolated himself more and more and his mind was slowly consumed by anger and revenge,
09:05he began modifying his Komatsu bulldozer into a machine the world had never seen before.
09:11For almost a year and a half, he secretly modified the bulldozer.
09:15Its original purpose was just to make a path to his muffler shop,
09:20but he turned it into a weapon against the people he believed had ruined his life.
09:26Using the skills of a veteran welder and a heart full of anger,
09:30Marvin painstakingly built the thick armor of the killdozer.
09:34He used thick steel, in some parts reaching almost a foot in thickness.
09:39To make it even stronger, he filled the gaps between the steel plates with concrete,
09:44creating armor that was almost impenetrable and extremely difficult to destroy.
09:49At that point, the killdozer was no longer just an ordinary bulldozer.
09:53It had become an armored machine built for a single purpose,
09:57to carry out Marvin Himeyer's revenge.
10:00While tirelessly working on his secret project,
10:03Marvin continued to reinforce the killdozer,
10:06turning it into something like a moving fortress on top of the caterpillar tracks.
10:11He equipped it with three firing ports where different types of guns were positioned,
10:15a Ruger Mini-14, an FN FNC,
10:19and a Barrett M82.
10:22These holes served as protected positions so he could fire
10:26while remaining inside the thick armor of the vehicle.
10:30The placement of these weapons clearly shows how deep his desperation was
10:35and how far he was willing to go to carry out his revenge.
10:40While he was building the killdozer,
10:42Marvin also recorded several audio tapes
10:45where he poured out his grievances and feelings.
10:48In one of the recordings,
10:50he said that he hoped someday the people of Gramby would understand
10:54that the way you treated me for so many years is what pushed me into this situation.
11:00You made me a desperate man.
11:02And when a person is desperate,
11:04he can do things he never thought he would
11:07just to get back what he feels was taken from him.
11:10Those words were full of resentment and anger
11:13and seemed to serve as a warning of the tragedy that was about to happen,
11:18to make sure no one would notice what he was doing.
11:21Marvin usually only worked in his workshop at night.
11:24He even set up a temporary living space inside the building.
11:28He slept there during the day and at night he continued working on the killdozer.
11:32Because of this, his plan remained a secret
11:35and no one suspected that a huge threat was slowly taking shape.
11:40As he neared the completion of his project,
11:42his belief in having a divine mission grew even stronger.
11:46He believed he was an instrument of justice
11:49and that what he was about to do was a way to right the wrongs done to him.
11:54In another one of his audio recordings, he said,
11:56I believe what I'm doing is right.
12:00If this were wrong, God wouldn't have allowed me to reach this point.
12:03He wouldn't give me a successful life if the path I'm taking is wrong.
12:08I may not have been rich in money for most of my life,
12:11but for who I am and the life I have, I feel like I am a rich person.
12:16I thank God for everything he has given me.
12:19Yes, I have sacrificed a lot.
12:22I don't have a wife and I don't have my own family,
12:24but I believe there is a reason why I was created this way.
12:28And now I will carry that cross and fulfill the purpose he has set for me.
12:33That statement shows how strong his faith and determination are.
12:37Feelings that would later become the beginning of the turmoil
12:40that would shake all of Gramby.
12:42The creation of the Killdozer was the most important turning point in his life.
12:46The anger and resentment he had been harboring for so long
12:49finally turned into a concrete plan for revenge.
12:52As he put the final parts on the machine he had created,
12:56he knew that the day of his long-awaited confrontation was near.
13:00The residents of Gramby had no idea that their quiet town
13:03was about to witness one of the most unusual rampages in American history.
13:08Soon Marvin would unleash the Killdozer on those he held responsible.
13:12Believing they had ruined his life,
13:14a day would begin that the entire community would never forget.
13:18A day when one man's desperation, intelligence, and intense anger combined,
13:23leaving behind a trail of massive destruction and chaos.
13:27On the morning of June 4, 2004,
13:30the residents of Gramby woke up to a scene
13:32they never imagined would happen in their quiet town.
13:36Behind the wheel of his heavily armored Killdozer,
13:39Marvin Heemeyer began his planned act of revenge.
13:42The massive machine crashed into the wall of his own muffler shop
13:47and finally broke through to get out.
13:49That marked the beginning of one of the most controversial events
13:52in the history of Gramby.
13:54As the Killdozer moved through the streets,
13:56fear and chaos quickly engulfed the entire community.
14:00The first target of Marvin was the concrete plant owned by Cody Dashef,
14:04the businessman he had long blamed for the ruin of his life.
14:08He drove the massive machine straight at the facility.
14:11One by one, the two buildings collapsed
14:14while Cody Dashef and his employees could do nothing but watch what was happening.
14:18In just a few minutes, the Killdozer proved its terrifying power.
14:23The once ordinary Bulldozer had become an almost unstoppable steel giant,
14:28crushing everything that stood in its way.
14:30The Killdozer was so heavily armored
14:32that repeated gunfire from police using shotguns and M4 rifles
14:36had almost no effect on it.
14:39Despite all attempts to stop him,
14:41Marvin remained undeterred and continued his attack,
14:44leaving a trail of destroyed buildings in his wake.
14:48One of the first to give way was the front of Mountain Park's Electric,
14:51which completely collapsed after being rammed by the massive machine.
14:56This was followed by Maple Street Builders,
14:58which was almost destroyed as well due to the force of the collision.
15:01As his rampage continued,
15:02Marvin targeted one by one the buildings and institutions
15:06he believed played a big part in what he had gone through.
15:09Included in these were Gramby Town Hall and the local police station,
15:12both of which sustained severe damage.
15:15Despite the extent of the destruction,
15:17one thing was almost miraculous.
15:19No civilians lost their lives during the entire incident.
15:22Meanwhile, the armor he had worked on for months
15:24proved to be almost impossible to penetrate.
15:27In some parts, the steel was more than a foot thick,
15:30and between them was thick concrete that served as additional protection.
15:35Because of this, the neck shots fired by the police,
15:38and even the SWAT team, had almost no effect.
15:41The bullets just kept bouncing off the hard body of the killdozer
15:45as they desperately searched for a way to stop it.
15:49They also tried to destroy the cameras that Marvin was using
15:52to see his surroundings while inside the sealed vehicle.
15:55But even these were protected by 3-inch bulletproof plastic,
16:00so their plan didn't succeed either.
16:02As time passed, the killdozer continued to demolish other buildings.
16:06Among those damaged were Liberty Savings Bank,
16:09the Office of Sky High News,
16:11and even Copycat Graphics,
16:13a printing company located along Dirt Road.
16:16While all this was happening,
16:18Marvin and the authorities were also exchanging gunfire
16:21using the weapons installed inside the killdozer.
16:23But again, the police bullets had almost no effect
16:26because of the vehicle's thick armor.
16:29There was also a moment when an even worse tragedy almost happened
16:32when the killdozer passed near some propane tanks.
16:35If those had been hit,
16:37it could have caused a massive explosion.
16:40But because of the limited firing angle of his weapons,
16:43he didn't hit them.
16:45So, a bigger disaster was avoided.
16:48In the end, everything concluded
16:49when the killdozer reached its final target,
16:52Gamble's Hardware Store.
16:53As Marvin continued his attack,
16:56the engine's cooling system was damaged
16:58after the anti-freeze lines were cut.
17:00The engine gradually overheated,
17:02started to smoke,
17:03and eventually lost power.
17:05After that, the killdozer fell into the building's basement.
17:09One of its caterpillar tracks was left hanging in the air,
17:12causing it to become completely immobile.
17:14At that moment,
17:16Marvin realized that he had no way to escape
17:18or continue with his plan.
17:20Instead of surrendering,
17:22he chose to end his own life using a weapon.
17:25The killdozer, the machine he himself built,
17:29became his final resting place.
17:31After that devastating incident,
17:33the difficult process of recovery began for the town of Granby.
17:37Authorities spent more than seven hours
17:39cutting through the thick steel of the killdozer
17:41before they were finally able to open it.
17:43There, they found Marvin Hemmeyer lifeless.
17:47Along with his body were the weapons he used,
17:50a video camera,
17:51three monitors that served as his eyes while inside the vehicle,
17:55an electric fan to keep the inside of the machine cool,
17:59and a bottle of sparkling water.
18:00Until now,
18:01public opinion about him is still divided.
18:04Some believe that he was a tragic victim of a system
18:07that in his view oppressed him.
18:09For them,
18:10he was a man who was pushed by a series of failures
18:13until he completely lost hope.
18:15But for others,
18:16he was a dangerous vigilante who chose to use violence,
18:20and no reason can justify that.
18:22Because of what he did,
18:23even the killdozer became the center of intense public interest.
18:27Officials were worried that it might become a tourist attraction
18:30or a symbol of violence.
18:31Because of this,
18:33they carefully dismantled the entire machine
18:35and scattered its parts in different junkyards
18:39so that no one could ever reassemble or display it
18:42as a reminder of the incident.
18:45Eventually,
18:46Marvin's friends scattered his ashes in the mountains of Colorado,
18:50the place he loved the most.
18:51It was a quiet farewell to a man
18:54whose deep desperation led him down a path of no return.
18:59In the following years,
19:00Gramby slowly rebuilt the damaged buildings
19:03and tried to heal the wounds left by that incident.
19:06The memory of that day may never be completely erased.
19:10But the community showed their resilience
19:12and ability to rise after such a tremendous ordeal.
19:16Now,
19:17the question is,
19:18does it still remain?
19:20In your opinion,
19:21is Marvin Heemeyer a villain
19:23or just a man pushed to the edge by desperation?
