00:04music will always be my heart and my soul because that's that's me that's what i've
00:07always done since i was a little girl britney spears once the untouchable princess of pop
00:15has found herself at the heart of a battle for her own freedom
00:20after the mega success of her early child star career she was catapulted into the spotlight
00:26into a life of fame and fortune it was very cool who wouldn't like to be a princess
00:34but with fame comes pressure and scrutiny i think what's what just feels kind of safe to you and
00:40like how you feel personally some things are like probably you know people have boundaries and where
00:44they want to take it and where they want to go with it and i think you know it's just
00:47about
00:47respecting those boundaries the hounding paparazzi and a series of turbulent events in her personal
00:53life led to her now infamous mental health breakdown of the late 2000s
01:02but despite rehab support and a revitalized career britney's fortune and freedom is almost
01:08entirely out of her hands due to a strict conservatorship upheld by the courts and
01:13controlled by her father it's been you know more than a decade at this point that she's been
01:21in a conservatorship and she thinks and her attorney thinks that it's time for the court
01:25to review it and the court will take a look at that free britney spears now from her conservatorship
01:30free britney and i think by 30 years old you kind of have to know who you are
01:37with the hashtag free britney movement skyrocketing into the international spotlight and as her battle
01:44enters the courtroom we take an in-depth look at britney spears as she fights for her freedom
01:51i think you take your experiences that you go through and definitely put it into your work so
01:55i'm gonna have a lot of i hate men songs and then a lot of i love men songs so
02:01it kind of goes both ways
02:05she has shown that she is able to provide for her most basic needs and her day-to-day life
02:14she does not need these stringent controls over her
02:28she does not need these things to do with her for her
02:48and she does not need these things to do with her
02:52in 2007 at the height of her fame britney spears began exhibiting increasingly erratic and
02:57unpredictable behavior the media at the time used the harrowing mental breakdown of a child
03:03star turned superstar to peddle as much coverage as they could exploiting an already distressing
03:09situation and magnifying it into an international news story she seemed very erratic she was
03:15freaking out she she said the reason she shaved her head was she didn't want anyone touching her
03:19anymore she couldn't take how everyone tried to touch her just seemed to be in a very bad place
03:24in fact this person said she seemed like a celebrity on the verge of a nervous breakdown
03:28it actually tells me she's spun completely out of control it's more like self-mutilation she's not
03:34drawing blood by self-harming and cutting herself but she's mutilating her whole image the warning
03:40signs are visible throughout the years leading up to her infamous breakdown but everything
03:44changed for britney after that and in 2008 her freedom was stolen from her in a court ordered
03:50conservatorship what a conservatorship is supposed to do is protect her any conservatee from someone
03:58taking advantage of them jamie spears britney's father petitioned for the courts to put britney
04:04under a temporary conservatorship this meant he could oversee britney's financial medical and personal
04:10decisions the judges granted jamie the conservatorship giving him ultimate control over britney's personal
04:17and private life however the temporary conservatorship wasn't just temporary the courts extended it past
04:242008 and even into 2021 the fight continues it's been you know more than a decade at this point that
04:32she's
04:32been in a conservatorship and i think she thinks and her attorney thinks that it's time for the court
04:39to review it and the court will take a look at that conservatorship is typically enacted by a judge in
04:45the
04:46case of people who are unable to make their own decisions usually due to physical or mental well-being
04:51deterioration or age but now almost 13 years later and age 39 britney spears still has no control over
05:00the 100 plus million dollars that she earns every year so i believe the conservatorship uh is an
05:07egregious limitation of britney's civil liberties i think it's a human rights issue i do feel that
05:12strongly it is true that we don't know everything about her private medical history and we don't need to
05:18to make the assessment that conservatorship is inappropriate i think misogyny plays a big role
05:26imposing our idea of how a woman should behave she needed support she didn't need basically to be
05:34punished the seemingly unending conservatorship gave rise to the hashtag free britney movement
05:43the aim of the movement is to bring public attention to britney's lost freedom
05:47and help her break free from the shackles of what many believe to be a human rights crime of a
05:52conservatorship it has garnered support from a number of celebrities including share paris hilton
05:58and miley cyrus as well as the non-profit organization the american civil liberties union
06:06during a may 2019 hearing judge brenda penny ordered an expert evaluation of the conservatorship
06:12spears long-time care manager jody montgomery temporarily replaced jamie as her conservator
06:19on september 10th 2019 in the same month a hearing resulted in no decisions made about the arrangement
06:29she has shown that she is able to provide for her most basic needs and her day-to-day life
06:38she does not
06:39need these stringent controls over her
06:50in august 2020 jamie spears called the hashtag free britney movement a joke and its organizers
06:57conspiracy theorists on august 17th spears's court-appointed lawyer submitted a court filing
07:04that documented spears's desire to have her conservatorship altered to reflect her current
07:09lifestyle and her stated wishes to instate montgomery as her permanent conservator and to
07:14replace jamie with a qualified corporate fiduciary as conservator of her estate
07:29she has been denied the right to operate a motor vehicle and must be accompanied by security guards
07:35when in public whether in a motor vehicle or on foot she has been denied the right to receive and
07:42send mail
07:43additionally she has been denied the right to her finances she is not allowed to access her money
07:49or her credit cards ms sue's prescribed medications are designed for outpatient use yet she is being
07:57confined
07:57her own home with no opportunity to enjoy even a modicum of liberty or privacy whatsoever
08:07four days later judge penny extended the established arrangement until february 2021
08:15now in legal limbo and awaiting the next effort to reinstate her own freedom
08:20we can look back across the illustrious and complicated life and career of the princess of pop
08:25in a hope to better understand how things led up to this
08:42the smiley mousketeer has grown into a global icon loved and idolized all over the planet
08:48britney has spent her entire life underneath the spotlight
08:55britney's life has been splashed on front covers since 1999 when she broke out into stardom with
09:00her single hit me baby one more time in those days britney portrayed a more innocent image
09:08coming from the disney factory she was marketed as the all-american girl sweet innocent but at the
09:14same time sexy britney exploited this image to the full born december 2nd 1981 in macomb mississippi
09:23britney jean spears is the second child of lynn irene and james parnell spears
09:31with siblings brian james and jamie lynn britney was raised in kentwood louisiana
09:40talent and star quality were evident in the young britney and at the age of three she was invited to
09:46perform as a solo artist in the annual recital at her local dance school
09:54her performance showed the spears family that their little girl had a great gift
09:58a gift they would literally give everything to support
10:04the next few years saw britney improve her abilities and when she was 10 years old
10:08she entered the tv show star search after being snubbed by the mickey mouse club casting director matt
10:14casella
10:18when we stand together
10:21it's our finest hour
10:24we can do anything
10:26oh anything
10:28keep believing
10:30in the fire
10:31in the fire
10:32in the fire
10:36in the fire
10:38between your heart and mine
10:44love can heal death and bridge
10:49don't you think it dies
10:52don't you think it's one
10:55yes i do
10:59and in december of 1992 britney was finally cast in the mickey mouse club
11:05sharing the stage with child stars ryan gosling christina aguilera and justin timberlake
11:12during the show britney created bonds with her fellow mouseketeers that would last for a lifetime
11:17britney and justin justin timberlake her first very famous love of her life um met actually in
11:24the mickey mouse club they were both child performers and justin has a mom very similar
11:28to britney's mom uh lynn very kind of a a pushy stage driven mom who justin is absolutely
11:35very close with they both came from small southern towns and they had a lot in common
11:40in their background and their skill set in their personality and they were
11:45very good friends right from the beginning you know britney and justin often talked about how they
11:50grew up together they really did they shared a common background and they shared a common uh
11:55spotlight and what that what that's like that unique feeling of being a child star they both
12:00understood each other very well right from the beginning
12:07however the show would eventually be cancelled and all the mouseketeers went their separate ways
12:18despite returning to a normal life britney had her goals set and school life was not her priority
12:25the spears went all out to push britney's career forward in 1997 lou perlman was negotiating with the
12:33spears britney's inclusion in the girl band innocence unconvinced with lou's arguments lynn turned to a family
12:40friend and entertainment lawyer larry rudolph for guidance
12:45after hearing britney's vocals rudolph decided he wanted to pitch her to record labels
12:52well i feel like you know i think this business is really hard to get into i think
12:56you have to know the right people it's really cutthroat you have to be very determined and very
13:01focused and very disciplined and know that there's going to be a lot of work ahead of you to you
13:07know
13:07make it in this business it is it's a lot of hard work and um you know i think once
13:11you're cut out
13:12for that and you understand really understand what that means i think then you can succeed
13:16and do you think there's ever pressure from sort of people at the top to be really sexy in order
13:20to succeed um overall especially in los angeles yeah i do think that i think there is a pressure
13:27for girls to have the right nose the right body the right you know and it almost kind of becomes
13:31you are your environment and it almost becomes contagious when you get in an environment like that you
13:36actually really do become that yourself but um so i think it's just important to keep cool people
13:40around you that keep you grounded
13:59she was immediately rejected by three labels they stated the public wanted pop groups and not
14:06another madonna no one was returning calls two weeks after the failed audition larry rudolph received
14:14a phone call from jive records who wanted to explore her vocals and highly commercial image
14:20after a second audition for jive's executives britney was signed to the label
14:25she immediately flew to sweden to record her debut album
14:30the machine was created and britney was ready to set the world on fire
14:37after a shopping mall promotional tour of her album britney gave her first concert as an opening act
14:42for n-sync and in january 1999 britney made history
14:57when i'm not with you i lose my mind give me a sign
15:05hit me baby one more time baby one more time debuted at the top of the billboard 200 the album
15:15sold over
15:1610 million copies worldwide in a year overnight britney spears became an international sensation
15:23the label executives wanted the music video to be animated however britney rejected the idea in
15:30favor of a catholic school girl idea the video made history becoming one of the most played music
15:35videos of the 20th century well i was i was hoping and i was you know dreaming that i would
15:42do really
15:42really well but when it first you know when it debuted you know at such high you know number on
15:47the charts
15:47i was really really you know overwhelmed i was really excited so
15:52the image of a sexy and innocent girl became a synonym of britney spears a label that she exploited thoroughly
16:00i think when britney's kind of broke out with hit me baby one more time and you saw that very
16:04provocative
16:04racy video um it was her kind of walking that line between slutty and sexy and you know she was
16:13so
16:13young and she looked so innocent and there was a sweetness to her in interviews that she was really
16:18forgiven um but at the same time she managed to walk that that delicate place between going too far and
16:25at the same time being sexy she managed to do it okay at that point and it was a huge
16:30success
16:32after a controversial rolling stone magazine cover in april 1999 where she was featured in
16:38her underwear holding a teletubby britney publicly announced she was to remain a virgin until marriage
16:44i would make yes i am a virgin and i definitely want to try and have sex till i'm married
16:48i just
16:49went away for that special someone the statement would create an even greater buzz around her
16:55that's a formula that consistently seems to uh do well with uh men and and across the world
17:01so i think what britney um personified is something that resonated with a lot of young guys and young
17:07girls of course wanted to look like her but she was she was she was getting away with a lot
17:11of
17:11provocative stuff because of the fact that she was so publicly um innocent and a good girl so she kind
17:18of got away with more than somebody else would have
17:32with the release of her second album oops i did it again in 2000 she cemented her position as princess
17:39of pop
17:41her second album debuted at number one and was nominated for best pop vocal album and best female
17:47pop vocal performance at the 2000 grammys um well the first album um yeah all the songs i made sure
17:54that i could relate to them and everything and they could come from here and that's the most important
17:57thing and then i can come across when i'm in the studio and i can have attitudes so it's more
18:01me
18:18i'm not that innocent
18:28after the 2000 vmas and after much media speculation britney confirmed a relationship between herself
18:34and former fellow musketeer justin timberlake the pop power couple was a perfect combination
18:40and it made headlines all over the globe
18:46justin she kisses another man what are your views on that hey look man no it's just it is what
18:53it is
18:54it's acting you're gonna feel a pang of jealousy when you're in there well it's make you feel like
18:59a million dollars we'll leave it at that but uh you know you take it for what it's worth i
19:03mean it's
19:03just acting she's seen me do it and i'm sure it doesn't make her feel awesome so it might be
19:08quite
19:08eternal you never know i'm not that type of person the relationship was highly publicized and
19:16followed they were the perfect pop couple
19:23in 2001 britney released her third studio album britney once again her album debuted at number one
19:30on billboard 200. the following year britney was listed as the world's most powerful celebrity
19:38according to forbes 2002 also saw britney embrace another passion of hers
19:46honestly uh this is i was on my third tour and i just wanted to try something different to see
19:52even
19:53if i could do something you know try the acting thing and i was really inspired by the script i
19:57really love what the script was saying and i love the whole relationship between the girls and the bond
20:02that they had so honestly i was inspired to do it because still to this day i still have my
20:07best
20:07friends three best friends courtney larlin and jansen and that's one of the things that you know i think
20:12that's inspiring to have that and i wanted to do the movie because i could kind of relate to it
20:16to
20:17a certain extent oh you know there was a bunch of parts that were really hard for me to do
20:21because i
20:22couldn't relate to the fact that lucy her mother you know totally abandoned her and so i really had to
20:27just you know go inside lucy and try to envision what she was going through you know but i like
20:32the fact
20:32though that it is really very emotional and it does deal with real teen issues so teenagers can see
20:37that and feel you know like whatever's going on in their world they'll be like they're not alone
20:42you know well honestly you know i knew totally going into this that there's always a chance of
20:47failure but you know i'm the type of person i have i'm willing to take that risk you know and
20:52i love
20:53crossroads and i love the whole story behind it and um it's something i want to put my heart into
20:58so
20:58i was willing to take that risk movie crossroads the 11 million dollar film ended up grossing over 57
21:06million dollars worldwide i don't know i guess um you know i'm just doing my thing right now
21:13you know having fun i'm sorry never never what would you guys do together if you got to do
21:22uh you know a project together what would you like to do anything if you would do something with
21:28it that'd be cool movie a song a whole album oh man we're just i'm just kidding
21:38the girl with the midas touch was making it big time
21:44britney jean spears was a global superstar worth over 20 million dollars she had it all fame fortune
21:52looks a massive loyal fan base and hit after hit it seemed nothing could stop britney spears
22:05in july 2002 and at her peak britney surprisingly announced she was going to take a six-month
22:11break from her career the unexplained pause in her career left people speculating and eventually the
22:24confirmation arose that britney spears and justin timberlake had broken up the pop power couple and
22:30childhood friends were no more no clear explanation about their breakup was ever given but in december of
22:37that year jt released the music video for cry me a river the video features a britney look-alike
22:43and it rose suspicions that the reason for their breakup was britney's unfaithfulness
22:47i don't have to say don't have to say don't have to say what you did
22:51i already know i already know
22:53i found out from him
22:55no chance
23:11despite the rumors justin never spoke about the reason of their breakup
23:17well for britney and justin you know it's the lot has been reported but the most um the most
23:22plausible of all the rumors is the fact that britney cheated on justin timberlake
23:26while they were together in fact justin wrote a song about this he had a video
23:30where it was very obvious what was happening with a britney look-alike there were lots of rumors about
23:35who uh britney had cheated on justin with but the most common one was an actual mutual friend of
23:41theirs who was britney's choreographer that was probably the most likely candidate all that to say
23:47justin was obviously devastated and broke up with britney um because of this incident and britney
23:53spiral her downward spiral really can be traced back to that point in response to that song
23:59britney wrote the ballad every time which became one of the big hits of her next album
24:06during the opening of the 2003 mtv vmas britney performed like a virgin alongside madonna and
24:13christina aguilera
24:17halfway through the performance they both kissed madonna the incident was highly publicized
24:24uh there's no question in my mind whatsoever that madonna used britney um at the mtv awards for
24:31publicity for herself you know madonna was the one singing britney was there to support her and by
24:36kissing her in such a lingering fashion um i think at that point both women were trying to get in
24:42the headlines
24:46her fourth studio album in the zone was released in november 2003. in this album britney had more
24:53creative control by writing most of the tracks hit singles like every time outrageous and the
24:59collaboration with madonna me against the music came from this album another top track was toxic
25:05which gave britney the grammy for best dance recording
25:13despite her success the following years would become the hardest to date in britney's life
25:19in the beginning of 2004 britney spears pulled one of her most shocking stunts while in las vegas
25:26britney and a childhood friend jason allen alexander tied the knot in a shotgun wedding at the little
25:32white wedding chapel the wedding made headlines all over the globe causing a media frenzy like no other
25:39the wedding was annulled within 55 hours and the news continued for weeks after
25:48yeah when britney married jason alexander the whole world uh reacted in shock because we didn't know
25:54who he was i mean we didn't even know she'd been dating this guy what's interesting about that is you
25:59know jason is from the same small town in louisiana that britney is a town of 2600 people and that's
26:06what
26:06people in small towns do you know they marry some guy they went to school with when they were little
26:11kids and i think when britney married jason first of all she was rebounding from a very messy
26:16breakup with justin timberlake i think she wanted to be the first one to move on very publicly and
26:22that was a big motivation for getting married so hastily but that wasn't the only wedding britney
26:29would see in 2004 only a few months later britney became engaged to one of her own backup dancers
26:35kevin federline the romance received intense attention since federline had broken up with
26:42this former girlfriend who was pregnant with their second child at the time
26:49the couple was heavily featured in reality show britney and kevin chaotic and they got married that
26:55year well kevin federline is like a lot of um kind of non-famous non-successful people who end up
27:04with
27:05very very famous rich women you know kevin was britney's employee he was a backup dancer who she paid to
27:11be on
27:11stage with her you see this happening a lot with very powerful successful women who like to be in
27:17control madonna but you know with kevin federline i think for him it was like winning the lottery you
27:23know all of a sudden his boss who's a superstar kind of noticed him took him to her bed and
27:28all of a
27:29sudden he was promoted to boyfriend so for him i'm sure it was very heady he went from flying in
27:33economy
27:33to flying on the private jets with britney virtually overnight what's significant to me about the kevin and
27:40britney relationship is how fast everything happened you know within weeks she was talking about
27:46marriage within months um you know she was proposing to him saying let's get married before
27:51you know he actually officially proposed to her if there was a desperation uh about it to kind of get
27:58over the justin thing get over the jason disastrous uh short-lived marriage to show that she was really
28:04grown up um there was nothing calm or rational about any of that in october that year britney announced
28:13that she was going to take a break from her career to start a family
28:19after that announcement a few albums with greatest hits and remixes were released with some success
28:28in 2005 britney became a mom after giving birth to sean preston federline
28:35in early 2006 the paparazzi photographed britney spears driving her son on her lap
28:41without a seat belt instead of a car seat
28:45the pictures provoke anger and outrage amongst the family associations and child protection agencies
28:52also that year britney gave birth to a second child jaden james federline and only a few months
28:58later she filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences they agreed to share custody of their
29:05children britney's career had been so full and successful up until that point but was now being
29:13overshadowed by her personal scandals but the worst was yet to come
29:23to come to see you
29:52so
29:562007 would be a year to forget in which Britney's fans, family and friends feared for her life.
30:03In February, she was sent to a drug rehabilitation clinic where she stayed for only one day.
30:11The very next night, she went into a hair salon in Los Angeles and shaved her head with electric
30:16clippers. The moment was captured by the media frenzy surrounding her, and it showed the world
30:22how Britney had fallen down. During the following weeks, she admitted herself into other rehabilitation
30:28clinics. In that year, she also lost the custody of her children to Federline.
30:37The reasons for the court decision were never revealed.
30:41Well, for those of us who followed the day-to-day of Britney Spears, it wasn't a total shock that
30:47when she had what seemed to be some kind of psychotic break and shaved her head, because we
30:52had seen before then a lot of very provocative behavior, very erratic behavior, going into stores
30:58in LA, taking off all her clothes outside of the dressing room, walking around naked. There were
31:02all these rumors and reports coming back. So when she ultimately did something so crazy, it seemed,
31:09I don't think we were entirely shocked. But for a star of Britney's caliber to shave her head in such
31:16a
31:16way. And then we saw those pictures of her, you know, brandishing like an umbrella, like a weapon,
31:21you know, at someone's car. She looks absolutely bonkers in the eyes. Yeah, it was a shock. You
31:27didn't expect that. I think a lot of people were worried for Britney's life at that point, because
31:33it seemed to be that something was going on psychologically that people weren't really sure
31:38she was going to come back from. The fashion brand Louis Vuitton also sued Britney for using counterfeit
31:45cherry blossom fabric in a music video. The video was banned on European TV stations.
31:55Despite all of the hardship in her life, Britney released her fifth studio album, Blackout. The
32:01album debuted at the top of the charts in most countries around the world. The single,
32:06Gimme More, was performed by Britney during the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards. The performance was
32:13panned by the critics, but the single skyrocketed to worldwide success.
32:21At the end of that year, Britney would start a relationship with paparazzo Adnan Ghalib.
32:362007 was a nightmare year for Britney, and 2008 wouldn't be much better. In January,
32:42Federline representatives were executing a court order. Britney, refusing to relinquish custody of
32:48the children, locked herself in a bathroom in her house. Britney's father stepped in after it looked
32:55like Britney was either going to be hospitalized permanently, or she was going to lose all her
33:00money. And things had gotten very serious. I mean, there'd been, the police had been called numerous
33:04times. One very famous incident where Britney had locked herself in the bathroom with one of her boys,
33:09and they had to take her into the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. She was like,
33:14drawn away in a stretcher where, you know, and it's practically in a straight jacket.
33:18The following day, Britney's visitation rights were suspended.
33:22Britney was committed to the psychiatric ward of the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in a psychiatric hold.
33:33After an emergency request, the court placed her under temporary conservatorship of her father,
33:38Jamie Spears, which gave him complete control over all her assets and affairs. A very extreme decision
33:45by the court, which led the media to speculate that Britney had tried to take her own life.
33:52At that point, her parents, who had been concerned, but really unable to do very much, it seemed,
33:59went to the courts and demanded and asked for the fact that they could kind of care for her.
34:05And the court at that time decided that, in fact, Britney's father could be her conservator,
34:12which is something that you would do to a child or to someone who's not able to manage their own
34:18affairs personally or in terms of the money that she had. And the courts doing that would only have
34:25been done if it was a very serious situation. So you can be sure that there are things that Britney
34:30did
34:30or tried to do that we don't know about that would have happened, that would have preceded a dramatic
34:37decision like this. There were reports of suicide attempts that was in the News of the World.
34:42There were all kinds of unsubstantiated rumors about some of the dangerous things Britney might be
34:48engaged in. Whatever it was, it was serious enough that the court decided she should not be on her own.
34:57After her release from the hospital, Britney Jean came to an agreement with Federline's council
35:02and regained some visitation rights. Despite her incredibly public and incredibly difficult
35:08breakdown, Britney got back on her feet. She began the grueling task of rebuilding her image and career.
35:14But despite her ability to create new music, star in TV shows, and continue to tour,
35:20the controversial and arguably drastically overreaching conservatorship over her life
35:25still remained in place, in its complete original power through to 2021.
35:35In December 2008, she released her sixth album, Circus. Britney became the youngest female artist
35:42to have five albums debut at number one and got a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.
35:50Britney was regaining her life back, not only meeting success once again in her career,
35:55but more importantly, organizing her personal life and affairs.
36:02And with the kind of structure she has right now, she's doing well. But if that's removed,
36:08it's not clear that she would continue to do well. And bear in mind, there's more than $100 million
36:13at stake. Britney has a huge fortune and a huge earning power. There's an awful lot of money at stake,
36:19and you can be sure that there are lots of people surrounding Britney who want to make sure she
36:23doesn't lose what she has.
36:27In 2009, the Spears set a restraining order against former boyfriend Adnan Ghalib,
36:33following suspicions of Ghalib trying to control her assets.
36:37During that year, the singles Womanizer and Three became huge worldwide successes for Britney.
36:44Britney was getting stronger and stronger in all aspects of her life.
36:54In 2011, she released her seventh studio album, Femme Fatale. The singles Hold It Against Me
37:00and Till The World Ends were among the successes of that album.
37:06In 2012, Britney was hired as a judge for the second season of the American version of The X Factor.
37:12Her participation was funny, as instead of being the sweet judge everyone was expecting,
37:18Britney was fair, and sometimes even ruthless.
37:23The whole experience has just, you know, opened me up to so many different things,
37:27and just how many gifted people there are out there. It's been a really special experience for me.
37:34After the successful participation in The X Factor,
37:37Britney began working on her eighth studio album,
37:40Britney Jean, and enlisted Will.i.am as an executive producer.
37:45The album was released through RCA Records due to the disbandment of Jive Records.
37:50This album was the last of her original contract.
37:55The album had little impact, and it is, to this date, the least successful album of her career.
38:03The album's release coincided with the announcement of the much-anticipated Las Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood.
38:13I'm doing rehearsals every day from, like, one to five, and then when I hang out, I just, I watch
38:17great movies.
38:18I eat tons of popcorn with Parmesan cheese, and I, um, I love going to the spa at the Four
38:24Seasons.
38:24There is a God there. Yeah.
38:27Can you give us normal girls some tips on being so, like, wonderfully sexy and gorgeous?
38:31Oh, well, thank you. You're so sweet.
38:33Um, I would say just, um, a lot of yoga, um, I'm really disciplined with, and I like kickboxing.
38:40It's fun. I like to punch, so.
38:43And when you're hitting the bag, is there anyone's base you've got in mind?
38:46Oh, a couple of people. Yeah.
38:49It's a helpful motivation.
38:50Yes.
38:51Despite all of her struggles and personal battles,
38:54Britney managed to not only get her career back, but also her own life.
38:59She remains to this day a global icon for her millions of fans,
39:03who stood by her side in the darkest hours of her life.
39:06In January 2014, Britney won the award for favorite pop artist at the 40th People's Choice Awards,
39:13a prize that recognizes the love of her fans for her life, career, and recovery.
39:22Will Katy Perry be there in 10 years? I don't know.
39:24But Britney's been around since she's 11, so she's done a great job.
39:29And I think, you know, in some ways, in a sick way,
39:32Britney's breakdown actually probably extended her career another decade
39:35because people are very interested in seeing what happens next and her comeback,
39:40and they want to see her success.
39:41I think people would like to see her marry again, maybe have more kids,
39:44and maybe have a better go at that the second time around.
39:48In 2016, Spears confirmed via social media that she had begun recording her ninth studio album.
39:55On October 18, 2018, Spears announced her second Las Vegas residency show,
40:01Britney, Domination, which was set to launch at Park MGM's Park Theater on February 13, 2019.
40:08Spears was slated to make $507,000 per show,
40:12which would have made her the highest-paid act on the Las Vegas Strip.
40:17On October 21, 2018, Spears performed at the Formula One Grand Prix in Austin,
40:22which ultimately served as the final performance of her Piece of Me tour.
40:26You know, I think everyone would like to see Britney back to where she was before.
40:31You know, she's back in shape.
40:32We've seen her, you know, really reclaim her fitness and her body.
40:37She has a great new album.
40:38The early word is that it's fantastic.
40:40Her new single is number one on the charts.
40:43And I think everyone would like to see her happy.
40:45We want to see her succeed.
40:47We want to see her back to where she was.
40:48We want to see all those horrible years put behind her.
40:52It would be great to see this as a new decade, a new beginning,
40:55and really kind of a return to normalcy for a very, very public figure.
41:05Britney has already made music and television history once before,
41:08and she's getting ready to do it all over again.
41:11With the help of the Free Britney movement,
41:13the world is once again giving Britney Spears the support and respect that she deserves.
41:18The fight isn't over, but her life is finally starting to change for the better.
41:24I think sexiness is about knowing who you are and, like, coming into yourself and knowing what you want
41:30and knowing what's, you know, just knowing everything about yourself.
41:32And I think by 30 years old, you kind of have to know who you are.
41:36So I think that it comes with age, definitely.
41:40And yeah, I think you take your experiences that you go through and definitely put it into your work.
41:44So I'm going to have a lot of I hate men's songs and then a lot of I love men's
41:48songs.
41:49So it kind of goes both ways.
41:52And now you've come so far in your career and you've done so well.
41:55If we could put you in a showbiz time machine,
41:57you could go back and give your 17-year-old self one piece of advice, what would it be?
42:02Rock on.
42:03Yeah.
42:05Rock on.
42:14Rock on.
42:15Rock on.
42:15Rock on.
42:25Rock on.
42:27Rock on.
42:32Rock on.
42:33Rock on.
42:35Rock on.
42:35Rock on.
42:37Rock on.
42:37Rock on.
42:39Rock on.
42:39Rock on.
42:40Rock on.
