00:00Today, I'm going to tell you about the latest bit of virtue signaling by California Governor
00:04Gavin Newsom as he positions himself ahead of the 2028 Democratic Party presidential primary.
00:09Newsom announced that he is going to slap a 100% tax on any money received as part of what
00:14he called
00:15the Presidential Slush Fund for Insurrectionists on January 6th. What this is, is a fund that
00:22President Donald Trump proposed to compensate individuals who had been investigated or
00:26prosecuted unjustly by the Department of Justice under Joe Biden, not just for January 6th,
00:32but for any other reasons such as Russia collusion. Newsom assumes that there are no innocent victims,
00:36that everybody getting this money was involved in the Capitol riot on January 6th, 2021. And that
00:40just isn't true. There are many individuals who had nothing to do with the riot. And some people
00:45like Michael Caputo, a Trump aide who was investigated for Russia collusion that never happened, had
00:50nothing to do with anything. And he had to spend a fortune to clear his name while he was undergoing
00:54cancer treatment. Secondly, it's unconstitutional to tax anything at 100%. And his policy would likely
01:01be challenged and fail in the courts. And finally, the $1.8 billion slush fund doesn't even exist.
01:07When President Trump proposed it, Republicans in Congress refused to fund it. It was too hot a
01:11potato for them. And so Newsom has invented a solution for a problem that doesn't exist.
01:15He signs crazy laws that have an ideological and political purpose, but are not constitutional and
01:20don't really solve any real world problems. This has worked so far, but let's see if it works in
01:26the Democratic primary in 2028, which is clearly his goal.
