Mendelssohn's oratorio masterpiece has been recorded by many opera singers, including Bryn Terfel, Thomas Hampson, Simon Keenlyside and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. However, the aria is traditionally sung in German or English. My goal with this project was to restore, for the first time, the Prophet Elijah's prayer to the actual ancient biblical Hebrew found in the Book of 1 Kings, Chapter 18, verses 36-37.

Singing this timeless music using the cadence and resonance of Biblical Hebrew brings, I think, a whole new depth to the prophet's spiritual desperation and majestic authority.
