00:00Maybe the person who sees the most color would appreciate color the most.
00:04Maybe the person with the perfect vision would notice the sunset harder,
00:07or notice the flowers, or notice the way the sky changes before it rains,
00:12or notice somebody's eyes lighting up when, you know, something good happens.
00:16But sometimes having something all the time makes the rest disappear into the background.
00:23Sometimes the people who have the most access to something forget how special it is
00:28because they never had to imagine life without it.
00:32I was born colorblind.
00:34I don't know how the world is supposed to look like.
00:37For 99% chance that I don't know how it looks compared to you.
00:41I didn't have a day where everything changed.
00:43I was born, and my brain is built that way.
00:47You know, I learned everything through what people told me.
00:50I would not know that I had blue eyes unless someone told me.
00:54So when someone tells me that a color is beautiful or that the sunset is beautiful,
00:58I understand it.
01:01And sometimes I know there is a version of beauty that I am seeing,
01:04that they are seeing more clearly than I am, I mean.
01:07And that's a weird feeling.
01:10Because it's strange to stand in the same place as someone else,
01:13look at the exact same thing,
01:15and know that the world might not be showing itself to me the way that it is to them.
01:20Because someone will point at the sunsets and say,
01:22look at all the colors, and I'll say, I see one color.
01:26So part of me does wonder how much more there is.
01:30You know, how much am I really missing?
01:32How much of the world has everyone else been walking through that I can't get close to?
01:37But it's not always sad, because a lot of times it just makes me think.
01:41Because color is one of the things that people use to describe beauty.
01:45They say that the water is the clearest blue.
01:48Or that, you know, the leaves are the deepest green.
01:52That when the sunset comes, it turns orange and pink.
01:56You know, the color of an outfit.
01:58And the whole world is described through colors.
02:01And when you're colorblind, you realize how much of people's life
02:04just assumes people experience things the same way.
02:08But none of us experience things the same way.
02:11Everybody lives inside their own version of reality.
02:14And mine just makes that far more obvious.
02:16But the point is that two people can walk through the same world
02:19and walk away with different experiences.
02:23Because someone else might look and see colors.
02:25But for me, I might see the shape and the contrast and the brightness
02:29and the feeling and the memory.
02:32Because everything that you see, the first impression that you have
02:35might be different.
02:36It's almost guaranteed to be different than someone else's.
02:39So I think, and maybe I learned,
02:42that beauty is bigger than being able to see things
02:45for not only how they are, but to be able to see them perfectly.
02:48Maybe there is beauty in knowing that there is more there
02:52than you can fully reach and still learning to love it anyways.
02:57Because I think that in dreams too.
02:59I dream in black and white, which is very, very rare.
03:03And most of you watching this probably dream in color.
03:06So my dreams feel less colorful,
03:10but I don't realize that till after.
03:12When I'm in it, I don't realize.
03:15You know, even when I sleep,
03:17the world in front of me is not the same.
03:22And a fun fact I learned is that apparently people,
03:24actually this was more common back in the day
03:26when TVs were in black and white.
03:28Because then people saw the black and white
03:30and they dreamed it, right?
03:30That makes sense.
03:31But nowadays it's very rare.
03:33And honestly, I didn't even know people dreamed in color
03:35until later in my life.
03:37I figured y'all were like me.
03:40Because if you have good vision,
03:42if you can see all the colors every day,
03:44you might barely think about them
03:46and barely think about that gift.
03:47And you shouldn't feel bad about me.
03:49But my point is that I have that too.
03:51You know, there's people that don't have a limb
03:53and I'm just overlooking.
03:54There's people that can't see in total.
03:56And maybe I just forget how blessed I am
03:58to have all these things.
03:59So once you start realizing all these blessings
04:01that you have that other people don't,
04:02you start to realize that
04:04the ordinary world is full of miracles.
04:07And you stop noticing them
04:09because you get used to them.
04:10And that happens with everything.
04:14You don't appreciate your body
04:15until it stops working right.
04:18You don't appreciate breathing
04:19until you have to go through
04:20with the oxygen tank
04:22or struggling to breathe.
04:24You know, you don't appreciate
04:25being able to be healthy
04:27until you're sick, right?
04:29Maybe you don't appreciate
04:30the person in front of you
04:31until they leave you.
04:33You don't appreciate
04:34how much someone does for you
04:36until they don't do it anymore.
04:39And for a day like today,
04:41you might not appreciate a normal day
04:42until it becomes a memory
04:44that you would do anything to get back to.
04:48Humans are terrible
04:49at appreciating things
04:50while they're still easy
04:51because we always want more
04:53or we notice when things,
04:54only when they leave
04:55or when they break
04:56or when they become rare.
04:59You know, your house
05:00and your school feel normal
05:01until you move out
05:02or you don't go there anymore.
05:04A friendship feels normal
05:05until it gets too busy
05:06and you realize that
05:07you might never speak to them again.
05:09A routine feels boring
05:10until you realize
05:11it was actually
05:12what was holding your life together.
05:15So a color,
05:16it just feels like a color
05:18until you realize
05:19people like me
05:20don't see it
05:21the way you do.
05:23I still don't believe
05:24blue and purple
05:24are the same color.
05:25I mean, I joke about it all the time
05:26but I'm serious.
05:28I've never once been able
05:29to look at blue or purple
05:30and been able to say
05:31that's blue or purple.
05:32So I just,
05:34there's colors
05:35I don't even know.
05:36I mean,
05:36brown and green
05:37look the exact same.
05:38Brown and black
05:39look the same.
05:39I could go on
05:40and on and on
05:42and the point is
05:44that we get so used
05:44to comfort.
05:45We get so used
05:45to be able to doing things.
05:47So used to be able
05:48to see color
05:49or walk or breathe
05:50or whatever
05:50but then as soon
05:51as something changes
05:52or you get a new perspective
05:53you realize
05:54the value of the time
05:56that was still there.
05:58So that's why I think
05:59or I don't think
06:00that being colorblind
06:01only means missing something.
06:03Of course,
06:04I wish I could see things
06:05the other people would.
06:06I wish my life
06:06wasn't like this
06:07in terms of colors
06:08and I wonder
06:09what I would notice
06:11differently
06:11if my eyes
06:12weren't normal.
06:14I wonder
06:15if the earth
06:16would look more beautiful
06:19but missing something
06:21also shows you
06:22how to pay attention
06:24and appreciate
06:24what you have
06:25because,
06:26you know,
06:27I know there's
06:27colorblind glasses
06:28out there
06:28and people always
06:29tell me to use them
06:30but I'm comfortable
06:32in my world
06:32of not seeing colors
06:35and I do feel like
06:36if I wear colorblind glasses
06:37I'm going to see
06:38the world
06:38through a perspective
06:39that I didn't imagine
06:40and it'll be
06:41the greatest moment
06:41of my life
06:42but it'll be
06:43so demoralizing
06:44afterwards
06:44because I will just
06:46be sad
06:47that I don't see
06:48the beauty you do
06:48and then I'll feel
06:49like I have to wear
06:50colorblind contacts
06:51my whole life
06:51or something
06:53but of course
06:53one day I will
06:54and I think
06:55I need to learn
06:56a lesson from this
06:57and I'd say
06:57that's don't run
06:58from good things
06:59just because
06:59they might end,
07:00right?
07:01Maybe you're
07:02in a relationship
07:02right now
07:03that you know
07:03might not work
07:05or a friendship
07:06with someone
07:06that's moving away
07:07or a job
07:08or a city
07:08you're going to leave
07:08just because
07:09it's going to be
07:10gone one day
07:11doesn't mean
07:11you shouldn't
07:12trust it
07:13just doesn't mean
07:14you shouldn't
07:14give it your all
07:15and if it makes you happy
07:16let it make you happy
07:17without worrying
07:18about the future
07:18as long as it's
07:19something safe
07:20and healthy
07:20for you to do
07:21let it
07:22and I'll probably
07:24take my own advice
07:24soon enough
07:25and try them
07:28because anything
07:28that you do
07:29that gives you
07:29a different perspective
07:30is also good
07:33and being colorblind
07:34reminds me
07:34that I'm experiencing
07:36life through a filter
07:38that I did not
07:38ask for
07:40but then I realize
07:41we all have limits
07:43we all have blind spots
07:44and sometimes
07:45we can't see them
07:46until life forces you
07:48to see it differently
07:49some are colorblind
07:51with their eyes
07:51sure I am
07:52but some are colorblind
07:53with love
07:53some cannot see
07:54what they have
07:55until it's gone
07:55some people cannot see
07:57how much someone cares
07:58about them
07:58until they stop
07:59some people cannot
08:00see the beauty
08:01in their own life
08:01until that version
08:03of their life
08:03where the things in it
08:04are stripped away
08:06and I think that's
08:07the saddest kind
08:08of blindness
08:10because at least
08:10I know I'm colorblind
08:12but a lot of people
08:13don't realize
08:14that they're missing
08:15beauty in front of them
08:16while it's still there
08:19sometimes you don't
08:20realize you're living
08:21in days that one day
08:22you will miss
08:24because almost everything
08:25in your life
08:26is temporary
08:28so you can't wait
08:29for things to become
08:30more beautiful
08:32while ignoring the beauty
08:33that's already here
08:35I don't want to do that
08:36I don't want you
08:37to do that
08:38because if there's colors
08:39I can't see
08:41then I want to pay
08:42more attention
08:43to everything
08:43that I can see
08:45I want to pay attention
08:47to the shapes
08:47of the clouds
08:48I want to pay attention
08:49to the light
08:50to the light
08:50reflecting off things
08:52to the sound
08:53of laughter
08:53to you know
08:55maybe I can't tell you
08:56the exact color
08:57of these trees
08:58and plants
08:58but I could tell you
09:00that they look good
09:01brushing
09:03what word am I looking for
09:04you know
09:06faltering through the wind
09:07but my point is that
09:09you don't need
09:10to have things perfect
09:11to make them perfect
09:12I don't need to see
09:13the world perfectly
09:13to love it
09:15and nobody does
09:17maybe we all
09:18only get pieces
09:19pieces of beauty
09:21pieces of time
09:22pieces of understanding
09:24and the tragedy
09:25is that we spend
09:26so much of life
09:27wishing for the
09:28whole puzzle
09:29while we don't
09:29honor the pieces
09:30we already have
09:33so yes
09:34I am colorblind
09:35and maybe that means
09:36that there's a version
09:37of the world
09:37that I will never
09:38get to experience
09:40but it also means
09:41that I know
09:42beauty is not
09:43guaranteed
09:46and I feel like
09:47if you understand
09:48that
09:49then even the parts
09:50that you can
09:51see
09:52start to matter
09:54even more
09:57before you
09:58I can see
10:02I am
10:04to get
10:05you
10:05you
10:05I am
10:05I am
10:06I am
10:07you
