00:00So the movie starts and we see a house. A family is shown inside whose head is Spencer, a man
00:05stuck
00:06in a strict daily routine. According to the story, every day he goes to work and then comes home. His
00:11wife Laura sits down and starts crying, looking at a picture of her son. We learn that her son died
00:17in a military operation. Caleb was Laura's eldest son and Laura loved him very much. She always
00:22thought about him and remembered her older boy. In her grief over Caleb's death, Laura was so lost
00:28that she could not even pay attention to her other children. While she was struggling with her own
00:32pain, the doorbell suddenly rings. She goes to open it and when she looks, a man named David is
00:37standing there. David tells Laura that he was Caleb's friend in the army, a fellow soldier who served with
00:43him. He says that when Caleb died, David was right there with him and Caleb told him some important
00:47things before he passed. David says he came all this way just to pass those words on to Laura.
00:53Without wasting a minute, Laura invites David into her house, never once thinking that he could be
00:58dangerous. She lets him inside without even considering that he might be an enemy. Once
01:02inside, David begins to explain what happened. He says that when Caleb was dying, he asked David to
01:07look after his family. Caleb told him to go find his mother and tell her that he loved her very
01:12much
01:13and that he was always thinking of his family. Hearing this, Laura becomes even more emotional.
01:18David tells her that he wanted to visit a long time ago, but he was caught in the same operation
01:22where Caleb died and he was badly hurt too. He says recovering from his injuries took him a long
01:27time. Then, David gets up and shows Laura some old photos. In one of the pictures, he is shown standing
01:32right next to Caleb. After talking for a while, David decides it's time to leave. But just as he's
01:37about to go, Caleb's younger sister stops him because she had noticed David was inside the house.
01:42She makes the excuse that her sister is asleep right now since she's much younger than her late
01:46brother and asks David to come back another time so they can properly meet. David agrees and heads off to
01:51his job. After that, Laura realizes it's almost time to pick up her younger son from school. At the
01:56school, we see that all the kids have been bullying Luke and even hitting him. But because Laura is so
02:00wrapped up in her own grief, she hasn't been paying attention and Luke hasn't told her anything either,
02:05choosing to bottle up everything and drown in it alone. When Spencer comes home and sees that David
02:09is staying at the house, he gets upset and scolds Laura for letting a stranger move in without giving
02:14it any thought. Laura tells Spencer that David should be allowed to stay because she believes that
02:19soldiers coming back from major operations carry a lot with them mentally and their words can have a
02:24real effect on the people around them. While they're unaware of all this, David goes and sits down next
02:28to Luke to talk to him. He notices Luke trying to hide a bruise on his face and realizes someone
02:34has
02:34hurt him that day. That night, we see Anna again. She was out with her friend and afterward, she takes
02:39him
02:40along to drop in on David. Anna talks about how her mom raised her at home, even though things have
02:45always been a little rough. And she admits she's had it even harder herself, partly because deep down,
02:50she felt David seemed like a genuinely nice guy. Meanwhile, on the other side of the house,
02:55Spencer starts opening up to David, talking with him for a while about his own life. After this
02:59conversation, Spencer starts to trust David more and tells him all about his job since someone new
03:04was hired in place of his expected promotion, killing his chances of moving up and making his finances
03:10worse by the day. David listens carefully, understands what Spencer is going through,
03:14and offers him encouragement. Spencer starts to feel like David is treating him the way an older
03:19son might comfort his father. And because of this, Spencer lets David stay at the house for a few more
03:24days instead of asking him to leave. The only thing holding Spencer back from sending David away was
03:29that David had told them he was new in town and had nowhere else nearby to stay. The next day,
03:34David offers to drop Luke off at school himself, denies it at first. When David asks again,
03:40Luke nervously points the bullies out. After school, David picks Luke up again and the two of them go
03:46looking for the group of boys who'd been bullying him. David takes Luke to a bar where the boys are
03:51hanging out and buys drinks for their whole table. The boys get angry and try to throw their drinks in
03:55David's face. But that's exactly when David's military side kicks in and he starts fighting all of
04:01them at once. Watching David fight gives Luke the courage to throw a few punches himself against the
04:06people who'd been bullying him. Luke gets a little hurt in the scuffle, but with David's help, he finally
04:10stands up to his bullies and the two of them beat the group and head home. When they get back,
04:15Laura is furious with David, upset that he kept Luke out so long. She's also worried because Luke looks
04:21scared and a little roughed up, but David calms her down with a quiet conversation and soon Laura
04:27forgets what she was even angry about. Around this time, Anna is getting ready to go to a party.
04:32Laura tells Anna to take David along with her. When Anna asks David if he wants to come,
04:36he agrees right away and the two of them head off to the party that evening. At the party,
04:41they first run into one of Anna's friends, who Anna and David both think is really sweet and they
04:45spend some time chatting with her. Then one of the local boys shows up and starts teasing Anna's
04:50friend. So David steps in and teaches the guy a lesson, instantly becoming the favorite of Anna's
04:55whole friend group. Everyone's enjoying the party until David notices that Anna has disappeared.
05:00It turns out she had a fight with her best friend and stormed off. David follows her as she's about
05:04to leave and on the drive home, he starts trying to cheer her up. In the car, they listen to
05:09music
05:09together and David compliments the song. Anna proudly tells him that she actually composed it herself.
05:15Impressed by her talent, David encourages her. She tells him she has another song in mind and that
05:20she'll definitely finish composing it. She stays up all night working on it and the next morning,
05:24as she's waking up, she catches David outside, talking secretly to someone through the window
05:29in a strange hushed voice. Listening closely, she realizes he's discussing some kind of surgery
05:34to change his face. She also remembers that at the party the night before, he'd been talking to a
05:40weapons dealer and all of this together makes her completely suspicious of David. So, Anna calls the
05:45military office first and asks an officer to look David up in the database. The officer checks right
05:50away and calls Anna back, confirming that David really was a military officer. Hearing this only
05:56confuses Anna more because she had been suspecting that maybe he was some kind of impersonator.
06:01Instead, it turns out everything he told them was true. He really had served in the same unit as her
06:06brother. So, if everything he said checks out, where exactly is the problem? That's what the story sets
06:11out to answer next. Anna decides to call the defense office directly and the people in charge there
06:16learn about her call. As soon as they hear about it, they head straight for the Peterson house. From
06:20the way they're talking and preparing, it's clear they're getting ready to track David down and we
06:25soon find out why in the very next scene. It turns out David had gone to meet some gun dealers
06:30he'd met
06:30at the party in order to buy weapons and after getting what he wanted, he brutally killed both of
06:35them. While that's happening, Anna gets a call from the defense office at night, telling her that an
06:40officer named David is actually dead and has been for a while. Hearing this leaves Anna completely
06:46shaken because the man living under their roof clearly isn't who he claims to be, confirming that
06:51her suspicions were right all along. She rushes to find her parents and tell them, but when she gets
06:56to them, they're already sitting there confused because they had just heard some unsettling news of
07:02their own. It turns out the man whose death gave Spencer his promotion, the one whose girlfriend was
07:07caught up in it too, had supposedly died alongside her in what looked like a double suicide. The story
07:13doesn't add up and the strange part is that after that man's death, the promotion ended up going to
07:18Spencer himself. Along with a raise, he still suspects somebody else was behind it. In other words,
07:23the family starts to suspect David because David had already told Laura and Spencer all about it
07:28earlier. Seeing Spencer upset, Anna decides not to bring up her own theory and instead calls her friend,
07:34who happens to be involved with drugs to talk things through with him. She tells him everything, but he
07:38mostly brushes off her concerns. He notices a police car following him. Anna later goes to her job, where
07:44she runs into her friend again and tells him everything about David. Meanwhile, on the other side of
07:49town, David spends time with Luke, helping him get ready for Halloween. Earlier, Luke had shown David a
07:54butterfly knife and David, impressed by how good Luke is with it, ends up giving him the knife as a
07:59gift,
07:59telling him it could help him protect himself from bullies and stay safe. Right around this time,
08:03Anna senses that something is seriously wrong, so she decides to look into it herself. As soon as
08:08she gets home, she quickly grabs David's phone and snaps a picture of his contact list, hoping to
08:13figure out who he's really been talking to. Meanwhile, David realizes his phone is missing and
08:18quickly goes to retrieve it from his room. Just as Anna is about to call one of David's contacts,
08:23she gets a call from the police instead and they share some shocking news. Two of David's associates
08:29have been killed. The same two men who had sold David his weapons. The police think Anna's boyfriend,
08:34Zeke, was responsible, since he never reported the murders to the police himself. They also tell Anna
08:39that the gun used to kill both men was found in Zeke's car, which is why he was the one
08:43arrested.
08:44The police say the two men had recently fallen out and that the suspicion all points to a personal
08:48dispute with nobody else suspected except in Anna's mind, where David is clearly the real culprit.
08:53After hearing about Zeke's arrest, Anna tells her parents that two of his old friends were killed
08:58and that Zeke is being blamed for it. Her family doesn't feel too sorry for Zeke since they already
09:03knew he was into drugs and dealing and Anna had never liked that about him anyway. Still,
09:07he gets released from jail. Everyone seems relieved that he's out, but Anna gets angry instead and in
09:12her frustration, she finally tells everyone the truth about David, that he's been living in their house
09:17under a fake identity. Once she says this, the family does start to grow suspicious of David,
09:22but David handles it calmly and easily explains himself, saying he's part of a classified special
09:26operation and that military officers like him don't reveal their identities. Laura and Spencer
09:32accept this explanation and side with David, which only makes Anna angrier that her parents are mad at
09:38her instead of suspicious of him. Unsure what else to do for now, she retreats to her room. David
09:43follows her there and in a strange, almost threatening tone, he tells her that he'll be leaving soon
09:48anyway, so she should just let it go. He doesn't say much more than that, but the implied threat
09:54is clear. The next day, while driving her brother to school, she tells Luke everything, including how
09:59much she suspects David and why. She reveals that she used David's phone to steal his contacts and that
10:04when she called one of the numbers, she found out it belonged to a doctor, a plastic surgeon, who has
10:09a
10:09habit of doing illegal procedures and had his license revoked because of it, and who is now only willing
10:15to help David because he's being paid well. Anna asks Luke to dig up more information and Luke, sitting
10:20in class, starts searching while one of his bullies starts teasing him again. This time, thanks to the
10:25confidence David gave him, Luke punches the bully back and the fight ends up getting both boys sent to
10:30the principal's office. The principal calls Laura in and David comes along with her. Luke is on the verge
10:35of being expelled, but David steps in and handles the situation perfectly, arguing that Luke was the one who
10:41was mentally tortured first and only did what was right, and that if the school even thinks about
10:45expelling Luke, he'll personally file a case against them for how they let children get mentally abused
10:50on their watch. After they leave, Luke is about to get into the car with David when he stops and
10:55says,
10:55I know you're not the real David. Who are you really? I know everything. Hearing this, David doesn't react
11:01right away. He panics for a moment, then tells Luke, I know you know, but please don't tell anyone,
11:06because I'm still your friend. David asks who told him all this, and Luke admits it was Anna,
11:11prompting David to wonder who Anna told. Luke says she only told him and no one else. On the way
11:16home,
11:17Laura thanks David for helping with Luke, and David offers to help her with the laundry. While he goes
11:21inside to grab some clothes, agents from the defense department show up outside, having traced
11:26everything back to Laura's house, and they start asking questions about David. When David steps back
11:31outside and sees them there, he gets visibly nervous, and the soldiers immediately grow hostile,
11:36the moment they spot him too. They open fire on him from a distance. David, now armed himself,
11:41starts shooting back with both hands, as he tries to pull Laura inside to safety. But Laura,
11:46terrified of what she's witnessing from David, tries to scream, and before she can, David stabs her,
11:51killing her right there. He then takes Laura's car and speeds away. On his way out, he shoots and
11:56kills all the remaining soldiers chasing him, except for the two who manage to survive long enough to
12:01keep pursuing him. As he drives, David spots Spencer heading home, unaware of everything that's
12:05happened, and David shoots him too, killing him from the moving car. Right after, we see that the man
12:10who'd been chasing David's car had managed to shoot out his tires. David gets out, and discovers that
12:15the car directly behind him, the one with the man who'd been chasing him after he killed Spencer, has
12:21crashed into an oncoming vehicle. David then steals that man's car, and drives off. Meanwhile, Anna's
12:27friend Kristen had gone to the restaurant where she worked, and we see Carver had already arrived there
12:31looking for Anna. They take Kristen with them, and wait, knowing David will eventually show up there,
12:36since Kristen is the only one who knows the full truth about him. David knows Kristen is aware of
12:42everything, so when he arrives, he shoots and kills her too. Since there were a lot of people around who
12:48witnessed the murder, David, in a rage, sets the whole restaurant on fire and keeps killing anyone
12:53who saw him, wiping out every witness so there's no proof he was ever there. After that, he quickly heads
12:59toward Luke's school. We then see Anna and Carver also making their way to the same school. On the
13:04drive there, Carver breaks the terrible news to Anna that David has killed both of her parents. Anna
13:10breaks down completely, and that's when Carver finally reveals the truth about who David really is.
13:15David isn't just an ordinary person, or even a regular soldier. He was the result of a horrifying
13:20military experiment. Inside the U.S. military, certain soldiers were chosen and subjected to
13:25neurological changes designed to alter their brains so they would feel no pain and lose all basic human
13:31emotion, leaving them with nothing but a drive to eliminate any threat in their path. The experiment
13:36apparently went a little too far with David, leaving him completely emotionless, with no real sense of
13:41right or wrong left in his mind. The program was designed to make sure these soldiers never revealed
13:47their true identities to anyone. Caught up in all this confusion, David is now being hunted from every
13:53direction. Carver explains that David has become an unstoppable killing machine, and that ever since
13:58he resurfaced, he's already destroyed one of their entire facilities, which is why their team has been
14:03trying to track him down ever since. He tells Anna that they lied to her earlier about David being dead,
14:09because once David disappeared, they expected the police would catch him on their own within a day or
14:13two, but since that never happened, his team had no choice but to come and handle it themselves. By now,
14:18the agents are racing to reach Luke's school before David gets there, with Anna right behind them. She
14:23manages to grab Luke quickly, but David shows up at that exact moment. The school has Halloween
14:28decorations set up everywhere, including a haunted house attraction, and chaos breaks out as people
14:34try to escape it. David slicks in through the confusion, and as soon as Luke's teacher spots him, she
14:39realizes something is seriously wrong and that he's there to kill them, so she and Anna try to help Luke
14:44get out
14:44safely. During all this, David runs into the police officer, who'd been investigating things, and kills
14:50him too, along with Carver. After that, Anna goes looking for Luke, and on the way, she spots the gun
14:55lying near Carver's body and picks it up. No matter what David tries, Anna shoots at him first, but the
15:01bullets don't seem to slow him down at all. He grabs her by the throat and starts choking her, while
15:06Luke,
15:06trying to save his sister, grabs the same knife David had given him earlier. As David is strangling Anna,
15:12he's so focused on her that he doesn't notice Luke coming up from behind, screaming, and Luke stabs him in
15:17the
15:17back, then drives the knife straight into his chest, finally making David collapse. They assume David is dead.
15:23Soon after, the police arrive and rescue both Luke and Anna, and everyone breathes a sigh of relief. The police
15:29head inside to recover the bodies, but they only manage to find two, one belonging to the teacher, and the
15:34other
15:34to Carver. Carver's body and a third body are never found, which makes Anna realize David might still be alive.
15:40Before she can act on this thought, she notices a man dressed as a rescue officer limping away in
15:45someone else's uniform, and it dawns on her that David must have killed that officer too, and is now
15:50using his identity to escape. Anna decides not to tell anyone about it, because she knows that if she
15:55exposes David now, he'll find out and come after her to protect his new identity, committing even more
16:01murders just to stay hidden. By staying quiet, she's essentially protected herself for the time being,
16:06but there's no real guarantee David won't eventually come back and silence her anyway. Lost in these unsettling
16:12thoughts, this dangerous chapter of Anna's life ends here.
