00:00Every year after visiting Chelsea Flower Show I come home inspired by these incredible gardens
00:04and then I remember that I don't quite have the time, skill or patience to maintain something
00:09quite so magnificent. This year I'm taking a much simpler approach and I'm just focusing on
00:14three plants which flower for months, come back every year and require very little effort from me
00:19which honestly feels like just what I can handle at this stage in my life. The first is a rigoron
00:24also known as Mexican fleabane. It's a daisy-like plant and it genuinely seems happy almost any
00:29where in my garden even where the soil is really poor and sometimes even between the cracks in the
00:35paving and it flowers from spring all the way until early autumn so you get loads of bang for your
00:40buck.
00:41The second is geranium roseanne which I think might be my all-time favourite flower. It has these lovely
00:47big green mounds dotted with violet blue flowers and it genuinely feels like it's impossible to kill it.
00:52It dies back in the winter but then springs back even bigger and better than last year. And the last
00:57one is alchemila mollis also known as lady's mantle which has these almost neon green sprays of flowers.
01:04It looks beautiful in the morning when it's covered in dew because the droplets just sit on the water
01:09resistant leaves. It does have a bit of a tendency to spread but I kind of like that seeing where
01:13it
01:13will pop up. All three flower for months on end, the pollinators also love them and once they're
01:18established you can divide them up and plant them elsewhere in the garden so you end up with free
01:22plants. At this point in my life I think I'd rather have a small selection of reliable plants that are
01:28going to thrive with very little intervention from me rather than a really large variety that I'm going
01:33to struggle to manage.
