00:01The headwaters are the so-called water towers of the Alps.
00:05The headwaters represent the main fresh water resource we have.
00:10And at the same time, we know that the warming here in the Alps is twice as fast as the
00:16global average.
00:17We have a glacier retreat, we have a changing snow cover, more extreme events, more frequent, more severe.
00:28The water challenges are quite similar throughout the Alpine regions.
00:34If we compare all these different catchments, we can maybe identify some common patterns
00:41and develop some sustainable solutions that can then be transferred to other regions in the Alps.
00:52The more data we have from all these different disciplines, so I'm talking about climate data,
00:59about hydrological data, data about water quality, geochemical data, biodiversity data,
01:05socio-economic data, that helps us to understand the complex interactions, how these systems really work.
01:13And in the end, we hope to help the decision makers to develop these sustainable solutions.
01:19How much water is available for tourism, for agriculture, for hydropower,
01:25but also for the unique ecosystems we have here.
01:28What's different strategies here?
01:32What which is there?
01:34To understand the better.
