One of T&T's young stars is eager to see the national team back in the world cup.

Crystal Palace's defender Rio Cardines believes we have the talent to get back at the highest level.

Speaking with the TTFA media, the teenager noted getting back there can't only be fueled by the disappointment of past campaigns.

00:00It's important to be upset and use that with you to fuel ourselves to get to the next World Cup.
00:09But I feel like the focus has to be shifted now onto the next one.
00:14We can't really look into the past.
00:16I feel like it has to be thinking ahead.
00:19Obviously, yeah, it's tough to see teams like the Curaçao, the Haiti competing in the World Cup,
00:25knowing that it should be us.
00:28But ultimately, now the focus is on 2013.
00:32Even though 2030 is the ultimate goal, the immediate one is next month's CONCACAF Nations League.
00:38Rio Cardin has established himself as a starter during the CONCACAF qualification,
00:42and the former TNT youth player is ready to step up even more in the upcoming campaign.
00:47I just know that now I feel like I've cemented my place as a starter.
00:52Obviously, it doesn't mean that I'm comfortable.
00:55Everyone has to fight for their place, whether that's the star player in the team,
01:00whether that's Ronaldo, Messi, everyone has to fight for their place in the team.
01:06So, yeah, I feel them performances definitely give me a bit of confidence going forward,
01:12just knowing that we have the ability to compete against top teams.
01:16It's a similar situation at his Premier League club, Crystal Palace, where the young talent earned his debut
01:22and first Premier League start prior to winning a European title.
01:26I'm just looking for regular minutes, whether that's in the Europa League or Premier League.
01:33I just want to really get my foot in the door and just become more of an established, experienced player
01:38that will hopefully go up the ranks and just become a starter one day.
01:43As a beneficiary of the grandparent rule, with both his grandparents being born in TNT,
01:49Cardin's is a positive example not only for potential players elsewhere with TNT connections,
01:54but even a couple others at Crystal Palace.
01:57I think me now playing for Trinidad and Tobago could definitely inspire more players in England,
02:05academies to search their roots and get the opportunity that I had.
