Pembrokeshire County Council finally plans to dismantle the booking requirement for waste and recycling centres.
County Council Leader Cllr Tessa Hodgson has confirmed it is the intention of her administration to remove the booking system for Pembrokeshire’s waste and recycling centres (WRCs).
Currently all of the County Council’s waste and recycling tips require a pre-booked slots (with same day bookings available) - something that has been in place since the Covid lockdown.
In contrast, Carmarthenshire County Council, ditched its booking system some time ago, meaning appointments are no longer required for any of its recycling centres.
Cllr Hodgson has asked the Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services, Cllr Rhys Sinnett, to work with officers to bring forward a report outlining the options.

00:04Hi good morning it's great to be talking to you today I'm Tessa Hodgson and I'm the
00:09leader of Pembrokeshire County Council and with me I've got councillor Reece Sinnott who's the
00:14cabinet member for resident services and we're here today to talk to you about our plans to
00:20remove the booking system from our waste and recycling centres. The issue of the booking
00:27system is one of many that is often raised with me and its removal is a priority for me and
00:33my
00:33administration. Reece has been working with our experienced officers with a view to bringing a
00:39paper to cabinet in September with options as to how we can return to a drop-in system at our
00:46WRCs
00:47for Pembrokeshire residents. We want to make it as easy and seamless for people to recycle and to
00:54dispose of their waste responsibly and at a time and place to suit them making doing the right
01:00thing the easiest thing. Modern technology CCTV number plate recognition and the continued use of
01:08identity checks means that we can explore and move back to a turn up and go system whilst maintaining
01:15safety, high standards of waste disposal, maximising recycling and ensuring that unauthorised use is
01:22minimised without the need for a booking system. We already have some of the highest rates of recycling in
01:31Wales and in fact the UK. I want to just say a very big thank you to all our staff
01:38for the work
01:40that they do in order to drive up that performance. This is a partnership as well. It wouldn't work unless
01:47the
01:48people of Pembrokeshire are heavily involved in increasing recycling.
01:55So our plan is to bring a paper to our September cabinet which will outline a range of options for
02:01us to
02:02consider as to how we can remove the booking system from our WRCs. I do want to stress that until
02:09such time as
02:10we've had a chance to consider those options, the booking system will remain in place. But I really look
02:16forward to coming back and talking to you again and giving you an update on how our plans are progressing.
02:22Thank you.
