00:02Well it was just before 7am this morning when a shark was spotted off the coastline at Bondi
00:08Beach by a local who uses his drone to put it up in the air and try to spot sharks
00:14or whales or
00:15other sea life. Now the surf lifesavers down here at Bondi actually don't clock on at this time of
00:21year until 7am so the beach was closed immediately and swimmers and surfers were rushed out of the
00:28water. Luckily it's pretty poor conditions today so there isn't that many people down here at the
00:34beach today but it's less than a fortnight since Sydney school teacher Leah Stewart was mauled by
00:41a shark in the shallows of Coogee Beach which is just a short drive south of where we are right
00:47now. Now this comes off the back of the MINS government announcing this week that they're
00:54investing nearly 90 million dollars into shark safety along New South Wales beaches. Now part
01:02of that will be the usage of drones before Leah Stewart was attacked by the shark. Drones were
01:09actually banned off Coogee Beach because it's so close to the airport but that ban has been lifted
01:15and this morning while we were down at Coogee we actually spotted the drone being used but there
01:20was still a fair few swimmers swimming along the beach even despite the weather being bad. Now that
01:28announcement has been welcomed by locals. Here's what the president of the Coogee Surf Lifesaving Club
01:34had to say earlier this morning. Look I think our focus is certainly on drones. We think that's
01:38likely to be the best thing and we're you know glad to see some progress there. I'm sure there are
01:43other
01:44things that experts will point to and we'll take their advice as to what else might form part of that
01:48package. With the beach remaining closed today people who usually swim and surf are being urged to enjoy
01:54Bondi on the sand.
