00:00Good afternoon proving Toi
00:02It's a warm you know, really warm afternoon indeed
00:06Welcome to the inaugural Adani Green electrification Bh sự
00:09It's a privilege to host all of you here at the iconic London Science Museum in
00:18collaboration with the Energy Transition Committee
00:20So thank you all for making the time the precious time in all our food
00:24all of your lives to join us here we really appreciate it
00:29ladies and gentlemen we are here today because never before
00:33has the mandate of energy security been more critical
00:39all over the world but especially in asia
00:43the events of the past three months have left every nation thinking
00:48today all countries every single one of them
00:52developed or developing
00:54are being forced to come to terms with what it means
01:00to future proof their economies from relentless geopolitical shocks
01:06at the same time for most of the developing world
01:10where hundreds of millions of people are rising into the middle class
01:17who are increasing their energy consumption for a better quality of life
01:23affordability of energy continues to remain a fundamental challenge
01:30and of course the geopolitical disruptions have made this necessity into a monumental battle for survival
02:07completely independent of the two factors
02:09have not been addressed in one global voice
02:13so my friends energy security energy affordability and energy sustainability
02:22we believe this is the ultimate global trifecta
02:26as we've all discussed i'm sure many times before
02:30one of the small and we're speaking about it uh with lord adair and uh uh the team today morning
02:36one of the small answers to this challenge is the electrification of the global economy
02:43i thank lord adair turner for leading our upcoming panel
02:47on how to accelerate the global shift to electrification
02:51and i look forward to the insights from greg jackson and alice williams
02:57my friends
03:00let us talk about the one country whose explosive growth in energy consumption
03:04is going to be one of the most critical factors driving the global energy agenda going forward in the future
03:13india
03:16nowhere in the world
03:18nowhere else in the world
03:19is electrification going to be
03:21more critical
03:22and more challenging
03:24than in india
03:29it's it's going to be helpful to understand um india's electricity demand and supply in context of final consumption
03:39um in 2024 india consumed about 10 000 terawatt hours across all energy sources
03:46that's coal oil gas nuclear renewables
03:49uh china with a similarly sized population 1.4 billion people
03:53consumed 32 800 terawatt hours of energy
03:58that's three
03:58more than three times
04:00the energy consumed
04:02um final energy consumed
04:04for the same number of people
04:06and let's put the scale of india's challenge
04:09and opportunity
04:10uh
04:11but most importantly the growth
04:13into perspective
04:14we're talking about
04:16adding nearly
04:182 000 gigawatts
04:20of new power generation projects
04:24to the indian grid over the next two decades
04:27we're talking about adding
04:29200 gigawatts
04:31of new energy capacity to the india's grid
04:35every year per year for the next 20 years
04:39just to get to where china is today
04:46all this while ensuring that this incremental energy remains affordable
04:51remains accessible and remains increasingly clean
04:56that my friends is both the scale of the opportunity but also the challenge
05:00the monumental challenge that india faces
05:02over the next couple of decades
05:04and for us
05:05to address that challenge
05:07the path forward is very very clear
05:08that we must electrify everything
05:12we must build an energy backbone
05:14that is anchored in resources that are available within the country
05:19and this is where
05:20we have no choice
05:22but to be pragmatic
05:23and to leverage
05:25in every single energy source that is available to us
05:28as a country
05:29and it's no different for any country in any part of the world
05:33we must do renewables
05:34we must do hydro
05:35we must do efficient thermal
05:37we must do nuclear
05:38we must do every single thing
05:41that is available within
05:42the geographic boundaries of the country
05:45because as much as growth
05:47and as much as cost is critical
05:49energy security is probably
05:51more critical than every single other consideration that india faces
05:58and that's because
05:59without firm cheap baseload power
06:03the math of the economy
06:05and the sustainable of the country
06:07sustainability of the country
06:09just does not work
06:11it would be very incomplete
06:13not to recognize
06:14the role that the government
06:16and the country's leadership has done
06:18in enabling this journey
06:20over the past decade
06:22india's leadership
06:23has played an exceptional role
06:26in cutting red tape
06:28in getting rid of unnecessary
06:30and outdated policies
06:32revitalizing public undertakings
06:35and very strongly encouraging private investments
06:39the countless micro and macro policy changes
06:43by the government
06:44have resulted in an environment
06:46where businesses now grow
06:48flourish
06:48and prosper
06:49from accelerating infrastructure development
06:53to expanding renewable energy capacity
06:56strengthening transmission networks
06:58and enabling very long-term investments
07:01there has been both
07:03clarity of intent
07:04and continuity of action
07:06from the leadership
07:08and the government in india
07:09especially over the last
07:12more than 10 years
07:14and this continuity has been
07:17the critical enabler of resilience in india
07:20coming to the role of the industry
07:22and specifically the adani group
07:24we are india's largest
07:26private sector operator
07:27in every aspect
07:29of the electricity value chain
07:30we operate
07:32thermal power assets
07:33we are building one of the world's
07:34largest renewable energy portfolios
07:37we are targeting
07:3950 gigawatts by 2030
07:41and a substantial
07:44recently announced
07:45nuclear portfolio
07:46of 10 gigawatts by 2035
07:48we are investing in large-scale energy storage
07:52including pumped hydro projects
07:54energy storage batteries
07:57we are expanding transmission networks
07:59to move large quantums of electricity
08:02from renewable resource
08:04renewable resource rich states
08:06in one part of the country
08:08to consumption centers
08:09in other parts of the country
08:10and we are developing
08:12large green hydrogen ecosystems as well
08:15we are doing it all
08:17at a scale and speed
08:18that rarely would have been seen
08:20at any other part
08:21in any other part of the world
08:23because we are very clear
08:24that for india
08:26at the size and scale
08:27of the requirement
08:28incremental change
08:30will not and cannot cut it
08:32and to make this a reality
08:34our chairman
08:34mr gautam adani
08:36has committed over
08:37a hundred billion dollars
08:38towards energy transition
08:39that is one of the largest
08:41private sector commitments
08:43made by any company
08:44in any part of the world
08:45this is not a set of isolated investments
08:48but an integrated energy strategy
08:51end-to-end
08:53and for us at adani green
08:54this is not just a financial pledge
08:56it is our marching order
09:00the energy challenge
09:01and the opportunity in front of india
09:03my friends
09:04is a far greater
09:07pie that any business group
09:10can digest alone
09:11it will require collective action
09:14across india
09:14and the developing world
09:16the developed
09:17the india
09:18and the developing
09:19and developed worlds together
09:20it will require
09:23continued policy innovation
09:25it will require
09:26billions of dollars
09:27in financing
09:28to deliver these assets
09:30on the ground
09:30and it will deliver
09:34it will require
09:36us to deliver
09:37the trifecta
09:38that i spoke about
09:39energy security
09:42energy affordability
09:44and energy sustainability
09:47hence
09:48i'm very grateful
09:49to nigel topping
09:51for chairing the panel
09:52on how to
09:53how to build
09:54how to fund
09:55the acceleration
09:56of electrification
09:57and i'm intrigued
09:58as to the thoughts
09:59of the panelists
10:00sean kidney
10:01and ryan marie thomas
10:04finally
10:04on behalf of adani green
10:06i would like to extend
10:07our sincere gratitude
10:09as always
10:10to sir ian blatchford
10:13for our partnership
10:14with the science museum
10:15you guys have been amazing
10:17and to all of you
