00:00A.D. I can't believe you're here.
00:03I watch these videos all the time and now I'm in one?
00:06Crazy. Come on in to my beach house.
00:26Let's start here. This is kind of my everything room.
00:28It's living, dining, hangout, stories before bed.
00:33It's the whole schlabeel.
00:35This is Lucy's piano.
00:37Gift from Ellen Barkin for Hanukkah last year.
00:40She actually uses it.
00:42Not well, but, you know, she's three.
00:45This is the kitchen where I burn my son's bacon.
00:48He calls me the burn monster, in fact.
00:50I take it as a term of endearment.
00:53I am not a great cook.
00:55I'm gonna be real with you.
00:56However, one thing I do know how to do is barbecue.
01:00And I have a beautiful barbecue right out there.
01:03I throw four or five dinner parties a summer.
01:06The vibe is super informal.
01:08We set up a buffet right here.
01:10We have seating for 14 at this table and seating for another 8 outside.
01:16I love these doors.
01:18I love the vibe.
01:19It's the first thing I do in the morning is come downstairs and open the doors and let
01:25the day begin.
01:27I just think it's spectacular.
01:30The sound of the ocean for me is so therapeutic.
01:34You know, the sound of my children screaming usually is ringing through the house, but also
01:40the background is the ocean and the Grateful Dead.
01:45My apologies or you're welcome, depending on your point of view there.
01:49I've been coming out to the Hamptons for over 30 years.
01:52I have a lot of really close old friends who are out here.
01:56And the vibe of this house, it is a green light for all of my friends to have beach access
02:03and just a place for all of us to hang out.
02:06I love walking down to my beach right down there and seeing it full of my friends, which
02:13is also part of the reason why my refrigerator is always full of bottles of rosé.
02:18I love this living area.
02:20It's super informal.
02:22It is super cozy.
02:24These chairs are Brazilian, as is this couch.
02:28I have to say, you will find at the end of the night, me in this chair and one kid
02:34here
02:34and one kid here.
02:35This is our story place and it just works perfectly.
02:40We can all just kind of fall apart in these chairs together at the end of the day and
02:44it's just magic.
02:45It's a great vibe.
02:57You know, I've always been attracted to bold colors and in all of my homes, that's what
03:03you're going to find.
03:04We found this little old table.
03:07Got it for next to nothing at Beal and Bell in Greenport.
03:11This coffee table, I think, is really cool.
03:14The kids use it as a place to color.
03:16So this is a piece of art by Peter Dayton and he's a surfer himself.
03:21And it basically reads like a flattened out Hobie surfboard and I love it.
03:25I love yellow.
03:26The ocean is super important to me.
03:29I like to start the day by jumping in the ocean.
03:31I like to end the day by jumping in the ocean.
03:34The ocean is my absolute therapy.
03:36When I'm not in the ocean, I am in my jacuzzi.
03:41Kajuzzi, as my son Ben calls it.
03:53So this is the Kajuzzi deck.
03:56This is where we start our days usually.
03:59You know what?
03:59I got no problem giving the kids breakfast right out here.
04:02Throw the TV on.
04:04Listen to music.
04:05One of my favorite things in the entire house is this MaxLamb table.
04:10I think it's so cool.
04:12That jacuzzi gets so much use.
04:15And one of the great things about the design of this house is that it really is built as a
04:21beach house.
04:22And two things I want to point out.
04:24The floor of the deck, there are spaces in between so we never have to sweep the sand from the
04:30deck.
04:31The sand just goes through.
04:32Also, I can come straight from the beach and go up that spiral staircase to my outdoor shower,
04:40which is a total joy.
04:42And because I plan to have this house for the rest of my life,
04:46when I am no longer able to walk up the stairs,
04:49I plan to turn that spiral staircase into a tubular-shaped elevator.
04:54And that's how old man me is going to get up and down these stairs.
04:59I've thought about it.
05:00Don't you love this art?
05:02This is by Bernard Fries.
05:03I had it in the city for years.
05:06And when we built this house, it just seemed absolutely perfect here.
05:10It's just bold and beautiful, which is what I like.
05:13I got to show you this unbelievable wallpaper that's more like a mural.
05:19It's flavor paper.
05:20And I love the colors.
05:22They're so vibrant and trippy.
05:24And it really connects the whole house together.
05:27This is where the kids' rooms are.
05:29I'm going to leave them be.
05:30Let's go upstairs.
05:41Hey, Dee!
05:42What are you doing in my bedroom?
05:44Oh yeah, I invited you here.
05:45I love this bedroom.
05:48It is no secret why.
05:51I mean, this is my happy place.
05:54You know what?
05:55You cannot beat this view.
05:57It doesn't matter what the weather is.
05:59It does not matter the time of day.
06:02As the summer goes on and starts to get cooler, I start to sleep up here with the doors all
06:09the way open.
06:09And it's like sleeping under the stars with the sound of the waves.
06:13I bought the land that we're on in 2019, and we were in the house, I think three and a
06:20half
06:20years later.
06:21My big specification to my great architect, Gordon Kahn, was that I wanted the house to
06:27be fully indoor-outdoor, and I wanted to be able to see the ocean from as many vantage
06:35points as possible, and I also wanted to hear it.
06:39I then enlisted my very old friend, Jackie Greenberg, to help create the vibe of the interior
06:48so that it was colorful and open and fun and accessible and surprising, and she nailed
06:56it.
06:56I love my room.
06:57I love blue, as you can see, but the blue obviously mirrors the ocean perfectly.
07:04We got this wallpaper last year.
07:07I think it is wild and crazy, and it's kind of reflective, and you can see it reflecting
07:13as you come up from the beach.
07:14It's just super cool.
07:16Next to my bed is where I keep all my love notes from Ben, and he writes so many.
07:23I love you so much.
07:24I'm especially proud of this one for being the best daddy ever.
07:29Love you so much.
07:31This is where the staircase ends, and that's my outdoor shower.
07:36I never actually shower inside during the summer.
07:40It's always an outdoor shower for me, and I get the sunset over there.
07:44It's the perfect spot, and so I love my little primary suite here.
07:49I've got my bedroom, and then my bathroom is just behind it, and then the outdoor shower.
07:55You have to check out this upper deck.
07:58It is the piece de resistance.
08:10So this is the roof, and it is just the spot.
08:15What can I say?
08:16When I have dinner parties, we start with cocktails up here because the sunsets are absolutely magical.
08:23I like to do a really long cocktail hour when I have dinner parties, like a couple hours.
08:29Make people super hungry, loosen them up before we sit down for dinner.
08:33I have a lot of meditative nights up here under the stars blasting music.
08:38You know, I grew up in the Midwest.
08:40I always aspired to go to the beach.
08:43We went to Florida for vacations.
08:45So the fact that my kids get to grow up with access to the ocean is just, for me, a
08:53fantasy,
08:53and I hope it is for them, too.
09:03Let's talk about the kids' bedrooms.
09:05I just absolutely adore them.
09:08They're so colorful.
09:09They're so playful.
09:11Lucy's favorite color is pink.
09:13Her bed frame is SJP fabric, and the bedspread is SJP fabric featuring rickrack,
09:22and it is the perfect spot for Lucy.
09:24She loves that big bed, and it's so sweet, and she's going to grow up in that room,
09:29and I just absolutely love it.
09:39Ben's bunk bed is incredible.
09:42It is covered in cork, and the wallpaper is Warhol wallpaper.
09:48It's very kid-friendly and very cute, and he plays in there, and he loves sleeping on the top bunk,
09:56and there's a shelf up there where he keeps all of his special stuff.
09:59Their bathroom is just so cool.
10:02Jackie designed the tile work in all of the bathrooms, and it's evocative of this Paul Smith swirl fabric
10:11that is really emblematic to the Paul Smith brand, and that I've always loved,
10:17and so reimagined that using spectacular colors that were handpicked by us.
10:25And I just think they're fun and beachy and really vibey.
10:43All right, A.D., guess what?
10:46It's Kajoozy time for Daddy, and time for you to go.
10:51It's been real.
10:52Come back any time.
10:54.
10:55.
10:56.
10:56.
10:56.
10:56.
10:56.
10:56.
10:58.
10:59.
11:00.
