00:57couple because they've been through so much it's great it's really good we've had four years of
01:01trauma so exactly but this i mean this whole storyline has been really good because it's
01:06been a slow burner and it showed people how hard it is actually the whole process that you've got
01:11to go through if you want to adopt well it takes it takes that long so i've been playing it
01:15out for
01:15about a year yeah yeah now um it can take much longer than that you've sort of got to look
01:22at
01:22yourself and visit revisit trauma um i think that these two probably need a little bit of cancelling
01:31maybe i'm yeah maybe i think i think you're quite right there it's been i mean they're an incredible
01:36couple and i know you two got on incredibly well as well which is which is great because you've got
01:40to have that trust in that shorthand and and it was was it two years ago that the marriage happened
01:45um yeah 23 was it the 24 i think i was i was surprised that that was the first one
01:52because you would have thought that you know the first lesbian wedding you would have thought that
01:56for goodness sake what's been going on finally got there it seems crazy now the wedding scenes were
02:02lovely it was all done beautifully but before you shot those scenes or just as you were preparing for
02:08them you got news of your own that you had breast cancer and you still i tell you what i
02:14salute you
02:15you still went into work and you still did all of that it was the night it was the night
02:19before we
02:19started the block but um i think at that point i just thought i want to finish the story right
02:28so
02:28if things had gone badly wrong yeah at least we would have kind of put a full stop and those
02:33two
02:34weeks of filming wasn't going to change anything right okay so you yeah it was my choice yeah east
02:39lenders were amazing they have been brilliant haven't they the cast the crew everybody involved have
02:44been so supportive of you they have i worked right the way through but that was my choice
02:48they kept me a lot quieter but i the days that i was there were the days that were the
02:54easiest
02:55because everybody makes me laugh and everybody it's just a real sort of family feel and i didn't
03:01want to be at home just no sitting in it no and it's quite it's quite good to have that
03:05distraction
03:06in the way you know you have to do and also that normality yeah because your whole world blows up
03:11doesn't it yeah it's like having the rug ripped out for mondia you know sort of i think i went
03:16in at
03:16three o'clock to the breast cancer center in worthing and they told me at 6 p.m so three
03:21hours
03:22later you know and you're like trying to sort of process it on the way home and yeah it's like
03:26your
03:26whole world just changes doesn't it completely change it does but it's been very positive as
03:30well you've been incredible both of you because your wife had breast cancer as well yeah but you know
03:35what we've showed up for each other and i think being able to prove that kind of in sickness and
03:42in
03:42health we did it yeah you know she showed up for me and i showed up for her it's made
03:46us stronger
03:47it's been really tough on the kids of course but they've come through that as well they're really
03:51resilient you've got incredible girls yeah you really have i mean your oldest one she's what 11
03:5611 yeah she's just about to go to big school yeah and she's amazing and the twins jesse and lola
04:01yeah they're nine and they're aware that's the thing you can't hide it from them and in a way i
04:06think sometimes with children do you don't think you've got to be honest without we were honest
04:11without scaring them exactly without scaring them you know and um we were super honest with them the
04:16whole time i think the only thing was to try not to i couldn't allow myself to break down in
04:22front of
04:22you know you see your mom right down in front of you so i used to kind of use the
04:25shower for that
04:28i hear you yeah it's tricky um because their world is falling apart as well of course but as you
04:35said
04:35sometimes something like this you know there is a silver lining in that you are very you're so much
04:40close we are i just realized what's important what am i what am i chasing you know i've got this
04:47beautiful job at eastenders with gorgeous people i've got a beautiful family at home and that's
04:53enough it is it's enough it is because your type of cancer was aggressive it must have been very scary
05:00at times i mean that that goes without saying it's been really frightening but my goodness me you are so
05:06strong you're incredible no you are to be able to just deal with that people people say that though
05:13but you you just get on don't you yeah i don't see myself as strong at all um i think
05:20it's just
05:20about finding the positives in whatever situation you're in and i got to spend amazing time with my
05:26mom who came down after my mistake to me i haven't had time with my mom like that since i
05:31was a kid
05:31you know all of those relationships in your life suddenly mean so much more oh they do and you you
05:37know
05:38you just work out what you need to invest time in yeah absolutely you're still doing your music
05:43though because i know i know i was speaking a couple of weeks ago actually but i keep it really
05:48small i just pop it out on the mailing list uh so they were like literally 100 seater venues oh
05:53but
05:53how lovely um oh that was a song we wrote last year so i went on a songwriting retreat uh
05:58for my 50th
05:59birthday instead of having a party because i had no eyelashes or eyebrows and i thought i don't want
06:04any pictures um so i wrote with uh that's ruth trimble she's an amazing solo artist herself
06:10um and i've just got back from another one over in malaga so we just go for a week and
06:14and ride trying the mountains i think so you're doing that that's a wonderful thing to do oh it's
06:20beautiful not only are you performing but your daughter she can she she got sick she got up with
06:26me look at this girl oh look at her beautiful i'm gonna cry look at her in a little brighton

06:33it's brilliant you just got back from wembley to watch um brighton women in the fa cook final
06:38yeah that was even better do you know what it's great when you do something and the audience
06:44respond and it's wonderful and you know it's a high but for your girl to be there by your side
06:49that is so special isn't it well if you watch that video it's on it's on my insta you can
06:53hear the
06:53shake in my voice because you were losing it because you could sing at home but i thought
06:58okay put her on the stage with monitors and a band and she just lifted the level and so i'm
07:04nearly
07:04crying i couldn't believe it i couldn't hold it back wonderful yeah we're so lucky with our girls
07:10no you are you've got a great great family and of course you know we we've been following the fact
07:16that you've gone through all of this both of you you know you nearly have gone through this
07:20and it is so important just to know you're normal isn't it you know you're normal and check
07:25you know i found out because i was doing like a no sugar diet i was taking pictures of myself

07:29watch my progress right and you know if it was because my nipple looked different right okay
07:35that's how i was i was like that doesn't look like me and then i felt you know and it
07:41was there
07:42and so yeah it's it's really really important just in the shower yeah just you know while you're
07:48washing yourself absolutely no of course just just check and thank goodness you got it early
07:53enough yes and obviously you still still be having treatment for a little while or yeah a couple of
07:58years of drugs they're all these uh everything's bespoke now with cancer care depending on your age
08:04and fitness and whatever so i'm on a couple of years of drugs just to keep flushing the system
08:08right because it was in my lymph um but the nhs they know what they're doing the cancer care
08:12in sussex particularly it's been good awesome i'm glad to hear that it's so good to see him
08:17it's really nice to see you i know it's been too long and these tenders continues tonight half past
