00:00It's Benzinga, bringing Wall Street to Main Street.
00:02Workday must face claims that its AI-powered human resources software
00:06screened out job applicants in violation of California law
00:09and a federal disability discrimination ban, according to Reuters.
00:14U.S. District Judge Rita Lynn rejected Workday's argument that California
00:18anti-discrimination laws do not apply to applicants outside the state seeking jobs elsewhere.
00:23Lynn said Workday could be held liable because it allegedly participated in
00:27unlawful conduct from its California headquarters.
00:30The judge also allowed claims that Workday's software used proxy indicators of
00:33disabilities or illness, including employment gaps.
00:37Workday said the lawsuit's claims are false and said its AI recruiting tools do not
00:41make hiring decisions.
00:43The plaintiffs also alleged discrimination against black job seekers, women, and people over 40.
