Isa Genzken: Works from 1973 to 1983 / Kunstmuseum Basel

Isa Genzken is one of the most popular artists living today. She represented Germany at the Venice Art Biennale 2007 and had solo exhibitions and retrospectives in major art institutions worldwide such as Museion in Bolzano and Museum Ludwig in Cologne. The current exhibition at Kunstmuseum Basel is special because it has its focus on her early works.

Isa Genzken’s works from 1973 to 1983 have never been the subject of a dedicated institutional presentation. The show in Basel now makes up for that. Curated by Søren Grammel, the exhibition features Genzken’s Ellipsoid and Hyperbolo sculptures, computer printouts, drawings, a 120-part series of gouaches, the early film Two Women in Combat, the so-called Hi-Fis, and sculptural works like World Receiver and Rhine Bridge.
