00:11Welcome to Beyond the Game. The ball stays pure. Algeria put off a dramatic 2-1
00:15compact victory for Jordan to keep their World Cup dreams alive in Group J. Jordan
00:20struck first in the 35th minute when Nizar Al-Rashtan capitalized on a
00:24defensive blunder scoring a historic first-ever World Cup goal for his
00:28nation to shock the African Giants. But Algeria's tactical changes sped off in
00:33the second half of a brilliant Rijad Mahrez corner substitute Nadir Bomboubili
00:38dynamically headed home the equalizer in the 68th minute. The turnaround was
00:43complete at the 81st minute when Amin Goury smashed in a loose ball after a
00:48tense war review. The goal stood, selling the three vital points for Algeria.
00:57Norway defeated Senegal 3-2 in their second group eye match and secured a place in the
01:02round of 32. The European side showed its quality from the outset. Norway finally broke the deadlock
01:08in the 43rd minute through Markus Pedersen taking a deserved lead into halftime. Just three minutes
01:14into the second half early in Holland doubled Norway's advantage with a clinical finish in
01:19the 48th minute. Senegal responded immediately however as Ismail Lazar pulled one back in the 53rd minute to reignite the
01:28contest.
01:28Holland struck again in the 58th minute to restore his team's two-goal cushion. The Braves also brought his
01:36tournamentally to four goals for the strength in his case as one of the stars of this World Cup.
01:40Senegal refused to go away however and Ismail Lazar grabbed his second goal deep into stoppage time in the 90
01:46plus third minute setting up a tense finish.
02:01And heavy rain and thunderstorms during the afternoon that led to shelter in place warnings and made travel difficult failed
02:07to dampen Norway fans' spirit as they left the New York New Jersey stadium after Erling
02:12Holland scored his second World Cup race in a row. Norway beat Senegal 32 to punch their ticket to the
02:18last 32 with the jubilant
02:19players ending their game by taking part in a Viking role on the pitch facing their fans. Norway have been
02:26absent from football's grandest stage for 28 years but their players and fans look keen to make up for lost
02:34time.
02:39It was amazing. We've been staying for this event since 2017. All of us are feeling are 40 years old
02:49this year so it's kind of a gift for us. It was an amazing game.
02:53It was great. We have never been to the match this week before so it was a great event and
02:58we were happy with the outcome so we're happy.
03:05Argentina celebrated not only a historic tourney of victory over Austria on Monday's World Cup match but also that the
03:11team star player Lionel Messi became best all time goal scorer in World Cup history.
03:17And this was exactly 40 years after Argentine player Diomarano Maradona scored his iconic hand of God goal. More on
03:24the celebrations from our correspondent Ian Nessi from Argentina.
03:31The Argentine national team won its second World Cup match this time against Austria a 2-0 victory led by
03:38Albi Celeste captain Lionel Messi.
03:41Great. Very exciting. At one point I thought things were getting tough for us but in the end Leo stepped
03:47up and scored both goals.
03:48I'm really thrilled. I just came straight from work to watch it with my co-workers and I'm so happy.
03:55Honestly, Messi is a legend. With the first of those goals, Messi became the all-time leading scorer in World
04:01Cup history with 18 goals.
04:02It makes me incredibly proud. I think he deserved it, especially since Diego scored two goals today, exactly 40 years
04:10later.
04:11It was exactly the 40th anniversary of the goal scored by the cosmic kite, as Victor Hugo Morales nicknamed Maradona
04:18against England. The goal of the century and the hand of God goal.
04:22He's the greatest, the absolute greatest. While we do have a star player on the team now, personally, I don't
04:33think he surpasses him. He doesn't surpass that man from the people, a true man of the people.
04:40There was some tension there between those who were on Maradona's side and those on Messi's and they were remembering
04:47this. But honestly, it was very exciting, especially given how the match ended. Do you feel those tensions? Or are
04:54you among those who believe both are great? No? They're both great. I wouldn't dare choose between them.
05:00With these two victories, the World Cup excitement is building, even though it hasn't quite taken over the streets yet.
05:06But if things keep going this way, it promises to drive the Argentine fans wild as they begin to dream
05:12of a fourth title.
05:12The last game seemed pretty lackluster to me. We were just talking with some friends. But today I noticed there's
05:19more energy, more colors. So I think things are really heating up. It's exciting, as always, to have a team
05:27competing in the World Cup. But the country's situation is also a concern.
05:33Sometimes that overshadows things a bit. But oh well, oh well. Happy, happy for the players. Happy for the joy
05:42they bring us. Happy because it's lifting people out of the sadness we're going through. But anyway, it's motivating, very
05:50motivating.
05:52I think five goals in two games is a very good sign. And I have every confidence that this will
05:57be an unforgettable World Cup for everyone, too. And I believe the fourth title could be on its way.
