00:00Five, four, three, two, one.
00:14We will give the British people a referendum with a very simple in or out choice.
00:21To stay in the European Union on these new terms or to come out altogether.
00:27It will be an in-out referendum.
00:31Prime Minister, BBC. How are the talks going?
00:35Well, I was here till 5 o'clock this morning working through this.
00:39We've made some progress, but there's still no deal.
00:41And as I've said, I'd only do a deal if we get what Britain means.
00:46So we're going to get back in there, we're going to do some more work, and I'll do everything I
00:49can.
00:49I've just chaired a meeting of the Cabinet in which I updated them on the special status we have secured
00:55for Britain.
00:56And the Cabinet agreed that the Government's position will be to recommend that Britain remains in a reformed European Union.
01:04Is there any other people on the continent?
01:16Well, I'll take a chance for everyone over the place.
01:18He's here to be well.
01:19What kind of government is so far better, he's here to keep them up and he's here to keep them
01:19all around.
01:19Prime Minister.
01:19Morning, sir.
01:20So you have what's left?
01:25Morning.
01:26Morning.
01:26Morning.
01:27Morning.
01:28Morning.
01:28Morning.
01:30Morning.
01:34The total number of votes cast in favour of Remain was 16,141,241.
01:46The total number of votes cast in favour of Leave was 17,410,742.
02:01This means that the UK has voted to leave the European Union.
02:08I will do everything I can as Prime Minister to steady the ship over the coming weeks and
02:14months, but I do not think it would be right for me to try to be the captain that steers
02:19our country to its next destination.
02:23This is not a decision I've taken lightly, but I do believe it's in the national interest
02:28to have a period of stability and then the new leadership required.
02:33I have just chaired a meeting of the cabinet where we agreed that the government should
02:38call a general election to be held on the 8th of June.
02:43Britain is leaving the European Union and there can be no turning back.
03:00So I am today announcing that I will resign as leader of the Conservative and Unionist
03:05Party on Friday the 7th of June so that a successor can be chosen.
03:10I will shortly leave the job that it has been the honour of my life to hold.
03:16The second female Prime Minister, but certainly not the last.
03:21I do so with no ill will, but with enormous and enduring gratitude to have had the opportunity
03:29to serve the country I love.
03:33And I say, I say to all the doubters, dude, we are going to energise the country.
03:39We are going to get Brexit done on October the 31st.
03:41We are going to take advantage of all the opportunities that it will bring in a new spirit of can
03:45-do.
03:46And we are once again going to believe in ourselves and what we can achieve.
03:49And like some slumbering giant, we are going to rise and ping off the guy ropes of self-doubt
03:55and negativity with better education, better infrastructure, more police, fantastic full-fiber broadband
04:01sprouting in every household.
04:03We are going to unite this amazing country and we are going to take it forward.
04:07The reality is that today we have a deal which allows us to avoid chaos and an atmosphere of conflict
04:14between the EU27 and the United Kingdom.
04:18Therefore, the European Council invited the Commission, the European Parliament and the Council
04:25to ensure that this agreement can enter into force on the 1st of November 2019.
04:32We are going to rise, we are going to rise, we will rise, we will rise, we will rise, we
04:45will rise..
04:45Congratulations.
04:46We are going down.
04:50We are going down
05:11Five, four, three, two, one.
05:32Five, four, three, one.
