00:00We talk about the easter eggs in the album and I mean I've been trying to dig deep because I
00:04know you guys are
00:05Livvies and you're so smart and everything and I tried to do my best and I did find one easter
00:09egg
00:09on one of these songs here and that not only are you one of the first people to hear this
00:15album
00:15in the world you also get to hear it with the artist here Olivia come on out
00:43oh my gosh you should have seen the headbanging going on you should have seen that crying oh half
00:49of those are from me but congratulations if it's okay with you we'd love to chat a little bit yeah
00:56album thank you so much for so good to see you too we got chairs this is crazy guys look
01:05at this
01:07we're so far away so we just listened to the whole album front to back and it was so interesting
01:16we
01:16were asking everyone their favorite song like what they loved about the project and it's so cool I
01:20think it came out maybe the day before or this week how you split it up you know and it
01:25being happy in
01:27the front sad in the back I mean when did it click for you that like that is that is
01:32the way this is
01:32gonna roll out yeah you know I always wanted to be called you seem pretty sad for a girl so
01:37in love
01:37that was always the title since the beginning and then obviously life happened and turned out to be a
01:42a lot more sad songs than I anticipated on the record but uh yeah it just kind of worked as
01:47sort
01:47of like a concept you know it's just like has the two sides of the coin so there it is
01:51it's so cool to
01:52have you here I mean it's so wild guys that she's here the day before this album comes out hours
01:57actually
01:5930 minutes before I feel so honored that you're here spending some time with this what are the
02:03feelings before like an album comes out like what do you do the day before and is there any different
02:07feeling than like guts compared to releasing this album yeah you know it is a very anxiety inducing
02:14feeling it's like it's sending your child off to college or something like that it's very scary but
02:19um I've been having a really good day today everything's going great I'm hanging out seeing
02:24people so thanks for coming yeah I mean we have such a intimate group these are some of your biggest
02:29fans in the world I'm so happy they're here getting to share it with you what's it like to you
02:33know
02:33share that with them in such an intimate space and that they get to hear it you know before the
02:37whole world does oh my god well I wasn't here to see you guys listen to it but I hope
02:41you liked it
02:42and I hope uh yeah I hope something resonated with you but uh it's it's really fun to get to
02:46like see
02:47it reverberate in the real world because obviously it's just been like on my phone for so long so yeah
02:51it's cool that it's you know being played on speakers all across the the globe yeah well don't
02:55worry we got reactions from everybody and even some nice voice notes uh that's into your phone um so who
03:02do you I'm so curious as an artist who do you let hear your music first I mean I feel
03:06so honored to
03:06hear it before it's into the world but as it's in the process like who's given feedback who do you
03:11trust to send this music to and get some thoughts on oh my gosh yeah my friends my best friend
03:16Conan
03:16I always play yeah he always gives good advice um and my family and yeah um there it's a very
03:24important part of the album making process is playing it for all the loved ones and uh I I like
03:29to think I surround myself with people who give me really real honest feedback so that's nice
03:32oh I love that um you talked about how you know it's always an anxiety induced day before you put
03:39out a project but what about you as a person from releasing guts to now like what has the growth
03:44been
03:44like like what do you notice about yourself that's different uh this time around yeah I feel so much
03:49more confident I mean I'm like three years older so much time has passed and I've been on like tours
03:55and like lots of stuff has happened in my personal life that I feel like made me so much stronger
03:58so I feel like uh going into this era guns ablaze just ready to go yeah yeah we were uh
04:04playing the
04:05music and we didn't have the tracks on so they kind of heard it in all one go and then
04:09we started
04:09talking about the titles so I can't wait to go down this list and get some of your thoughts on
04:13it but
04:13is there a song on this album that came together like quickly or maybe and also one that maybe took
04:19a
04:19little bit more time to perfect I'm always curious about the behind the scenes and how it came together
04:23it took us forever to nail stupid song which actually turned out to be one of my favorites on the
04:27record but I wrote it a really long time ago and we were just messing with the production for like
04:32legitimately a year before we landed on what it is now um and then the quickest one we wrote uh
04:38we
04:39wrote cigarette smoke the last the last song on the record and it was the last song that we wrote
04:43for it
04:44like in the studio and uh we wrote it in like a day and I remember writing it and feeling
04:47really excited
04:48about it so it's always fun when a song comes together quickly it's a thrill yeah and that was the
04:52one that's is it five minutes 40 some seconds oh yeah yeah I think that's like the six minute one
04:56yeah
04:56is there any thoughts to be like oh man I probably should shave it down or you're like you know
05:00what
05:00this is perfect no I kind of wanted it to be longer I wanted the the um memories go dark
05:05the memories go
05:06dark I just wanted to like loop over and over again and I was like I have to reel it
05:09in at a certain
05:09point you know yeah that's how we felt here we're like please don't end it it's the last song we're
05:13to keep it going um what about a lyric that took the longest was there one that you like you
05:17knew
05:17you had something there but you just had to keep like reworking it a little bit and like
05:21you know doing that feedback thing for it oh my gosh I remember writing the I don't think my future
05:29husband's at this bar in silver like lyric and feeling like yeah I wonder if anyone's gonna get
05:34that like only people who live in LA are gonna get it but you guys get it you live in
05:38LA I remember
05:39like toying with that one being like I don't know if that's the right fit but I'm happy that it
05:42ended
05:42up on the thing I love that that's amazing um and what about any songs they completely change like
05:48the meaning between you wrote them and then now that they're you know where they're at today yeah
05:52purple was initially a love song like a pure happy positive love song and we kind of wrote it and
06:00then
06:00forgot about it and a few months later Dan pulled it up and we started like messing with the production
06:05and making a little weirder and kind of sadder and so thus we changed the lyrics and made it kind
06:12of
06:13about a relationship sort of falling apart a little bit or like an inkling of the idea that it's gonna
06:17fall
06:17apart and so yeah that's that's how it ended up on the record wow yeah thanks for sharing that it
06:23was so fun for me just to watch people's faces while we played this and get people's reactions I think
06:28I saw a lot of reaction to maggots for brains which is incredible what can you tell us about that
06:33song
06:33oh yeah I love that song so much I always loved the word maggot brain I thought that that was
06:40really
06:40interesting what does that mean is that it's like something it's like you're just like not here not
06:45with it like dumb but I always thought that that was a weird choice of words and so I wrote
06:50it down
06:50and then ended up writing a song about it but yeah it's just about like missing someone that you love
06:54so much that it turns you crazy you know wow same thing with honeybee a lot of reactions to that
06:59song
07:00um so good again that that song coming together what can you tell us about it yeah that was like
07:06the first song that I wrote for the album and it was really special I wrote it in like 30
07:10minutes
07:10at the piano in my house in my living room and um I think it's like one of my favorite
07:15songs on the
07:15record it really feels like it captures this feeling of being in love really well to me and
07:20um it's really hard to capture the feeling of being in love you know it's a tale as old as
07:25time songwriters
07:26are always trying to capture that feeling and I feel like in this song I captured what it felt like
07:29for me so that's always exciting wow yeah and working with Robert Smith on some of this um gosh
07:36the relationship with him how'd it come to be um yeah I I sang with him at Glastonbury which was
07:42incredible um and that sort of was the beginning of our relationship and after that we sort of started
07:48becoming friends and and hung out a few times in London and uh yeah the song just came to be
07:54and
07:55I'm so stoked that he is on it I actually can't believe and every time I listen to it I'm
07:58like I have
07:59to pinch myself a little bit that's so crazy it was so good to see it live oh were you
08:02there no
08:03oh okay okay in spirit I'm like far from home yeah you saw me front rowing yeah yeah yeah so
08:08Barcelona just for the show yeah I came just for that I knew it was happening um you might not
08:12have
08:13an answer to this but is there a song you're most nervous for people to hear oh my gosh I
08:17mean the
08:18whole thing it's really like it's really vulnerable and it's you know it's such a story and there's so
08:25much in it that's very personal so I don't know the whole thing uh yeah what about a song you're
08:31most proud of one this time you're like you know what I did my thing on it yeah I honeybee's
08:35my
08:36favorite right now I love it so much and it makes me really really happy and joyful to listen to
08:40it
08:40I love that how about live I feel like there's a way to I love when artists set up different
08:45like
08:45I don't know what the word is but different like variations of the song where you get to play
08:48around with it especially when you do it a lot um what is the song that you're most excited to
08:52play
08:52live in front of crowds yeah I'm really excited to play maggots for brains live I just want everyone
08:57to sing they're like what can I do like I feel like that'll be really epic and choral sounding so
09:03that'll be fun I thought you're gonna say because of the design of the concert you have maggots yeah
09:07yeah yeah everyone's gonna have a maggot on them and be really gross um we talked about Conan one of
09:12your friends you trust so much uh when you're sending music I guess you know you'd say he's your best
09:16friend right yeah yeah yeah one of for sure what do you think he would say is the most
09:19Olivia song on this album oh that's a great question what's his favorite he really likes
09:25drop dead and he really likes the cure I think the cure is his favorite um yeah probably that
09:30but also I mean they're all Olivia that's like I mean but yeah probably the cure yeah that doesn't
09:35make sense you wrote every song yeah I know I get what you're saying well what about on tour what
09:40are you looking forward to the most what can you tell us about it once that gets going we're so
09:44excited yeah I'm so excited just play these songs like maggots or the cure live will be really fun my
09:51way live will be really fun and yeah I just can't wait hope to hope to see you all there
09:55oh gosh
09:56absolutely is there any other uh like visuals we can expect to come music wise oh yeah there's a music
10:03video for stupid song coming out tonight oh it's really exciting we got a bunch of dancers from the
10:08New York City ballet and we filmed this music video in New York and it is like one of my
10:12favorite things I've
10:12ever made it's it's so great so I'm excited to see it yeah and I don't know if you talked
10:17about it
10:17but we had some compliments on the album cover they just loved it so much um what about this day
10:21the shoot how did it go oh my gosh it was freezing cold I remember that's that's what I remember
10:25and
10:26it was very uncomfortable and I was a little bit scared that I was gonna fall on my head but
10:30I
10:30did it for the pick do it for the gram yeah you're like upside down unless that's some good editing
10:35you look 100% upside down yeah and not cold whatsoever thank you I tried tried my very best
10:40she's an actress she's a professional oh yeah I love that well it's so cool to just hear some
10:45of your thoughts behind the album and again thank you so much for making the time thank you and thank
10:49you guys for coming appreciate it yeah tomorrow uh the world gets the album I guess in a few hours
10:55if you're on the west coast um but tonight it's just you and some of your most you know intimate
10:59fans here in the room um before everyone else gets to hear it what's something that you know
11:03you'd say directly to the people who've been here through every era of Olivia oh my gosh just a big
11:09all thank you it's like a really uh a surreal honor to get to like grow up with the people
11:14who listen to my music and it's not something that I take lightly and uh I'm just really excited for
