00:00It's not uncommon to need a vacation after your vacation.
00:04The danger from overstimulation of Disney World,
00:06jumping in and out of ocean waters,
00:08or mountain hikes can leave you tired and exhausted,
00:12which means you're at risk of driving drowsy now that you're back home.
00:18HuffPost reports driving while sleepy is more common than you think.
00:22According to a Centers for Disease Control survey,
00:25roughly 1 in 25 adult drivers reported falling asleep
00:29while driving in the last 30 days.
00:32To reiterate this danger, a AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety survey
00:36conducted between 2009 and 2013
00:38found 21% of fatal crashes involved a drowsy driver.
00:44Susan Miller, a lead researcher and certified sleep expert, says
00:48even a momentary lapse of attention can be dangerous while driving,
00:52so prioritizing safety is important.
00:54What Jeff Kahn from Rise Science also refers to as micro-sleeps,
00:59those seconds can mean the difference between life and death.
