Tonight in Siem Reap, Cambodia, I set out on a solo mission to try authentic Cambodian street food — no plan, no menu, just whatever I could find.
From BBQ skewers and local favourites like Lok Lak and Fish Amok, to things I never thought I’d eat… including snake and alligator, this night definitely escalated.
I started at the local night markets along the river, moved through plastic-chair street food spots, and finished the night near Pub Street trying some of the more unusual dishes Cambodia is known for.
Cambodian food surprised me — it’s flavourful, comforting, and not nearly as spicy as I expected. And honestly, Siem Reap has an incredible food scene that really comes alive at night.

01:41G'day guys welcome back to another video we're coming to you today from Siem Reap in Cambodia
01:47and tonight is all about eating local food we've had so many suggestions of Cambodian dishes that
01:55we need to try before we leave Cambodia it's Saturday night here in Siem Reap we're gonna
02:00head to one of the local markets first and I'm gonna eat some local street food then I'm gonna
02:05go to one of our favorite local restaurants and eat some highly recommended local dishes there
02:12that are really popular and probably end the night on pub Street it's just me tonight I'm flying solo
02:18it is a little bit hard to do stuff like this when you have a baby when you got to

02:24it's not really stroller friendly and her bedtimes like between 7 and 8 o'clock but I'm gonna take

06:27it's kind of a delicacy and it's basically a chicken fetus in an egg that gets boiled it

09:50really dark green chili pepper and this is one of Cambodia's favorite foods and it looks really
09:56good it's very good it's not too spicy it's really nice I thought it was going to be really hot
10:04if you put the sauce on it it's really hot but without the sauce is really mild and I've said
10:09this before but there is something about sitting in a plastic chair on the side of the road eating
10:14Asian food that you just can't beat now we have the fish amok which is a Khmer or Cambodian curry
10:24apparently the most popular dish in Cambodia I'm assuming this one's going to be a little bit
10:30spicy actually tastes more like a masamun I think it's got some nuts or something in it peanuts again
10:35not too spicy yeah I think that's the big difference between Cambodia and Thailand that
10:41we've noticed so far the food in general isn't like as crazy spicy as Thailand I just spat everywhere
10:49this is really nice though very good tempted to order a beer but it's like 50 cent beers here and
10:56we've been going out to dinner almost every night and it's just so hard not to drink beer I'm trying
11:01to uh at least string a few days in a row of not having beers we'll see how we go

13:38through this snake because I hate snakes honestly this doesn't look that bad at all I was expecting

16:34I found this cool little food court and they're doing like a free show, which I guess they
16:40do every night.
16:45There's so much to see them reap that you don't notice during the day until you come
16:49out at night, which we don't really do much because obviously we have a baby, but there's
16:54so much going on.

18:00Man, Sam Reap's got a really, really good food scene.
18:04If you come to Sam Reap, spend like a couple of weeks at least because there's so much to do.
18:09So many restaurants to go to, like that food court I was just at.
18:12I didn't even know that existed.
18:13I'm seeing all these new bars and restaurants around here.
18:16They've got westernized food, like if you just want to eat normal food as well.
18:20But if you want to try some of the local dishes, they're really nice.
18:25That Loclack, probably my favorite.
18:27I really like the fish amok as well.
18:30I'm definitely going to be eating that again during our trip.
18:33I think I'll stay away from the snakes.
18:36Maybe I'll work my way up to eating a bat, but I don't honestly see what the point is of
18:40that, except for just clickbait.
18:42And I'm not really too keen to get sick, so we might just stick to the regular stuff.
